Hi everybody!
I have had an i9505 for a couple weeks in june before returning it because the screen was terrible (there were faint colored lines when displaying plain grey). One month after the order, the store handed me a different model because their provider was out of stock : an i9515.
The seller assured me that it was the same with kitkat preinstalled. Judgeing from the characteristics printed on the box it looks so, but I noted a couple differences :
- Antutu detects it as a Galaxy Note 3 LTE-A
- the front cam looks different
- there was a sticker on it saying it was europe only
- it appears to heat a lot less than the i9505 i had.
Here are all the things i could tell about it. I would like to know if there are more differences, and if it's a better or worse speced model than the i9505. Also, can I pick ROMs and Kernels made for the i9505 for my i9515?
Thanks a lot in advance!!
A simple google search shows that the i9515 is a "value" edition, so probably its a cheaper variant. If i were you, i would go back to the seller and get back a i9505 or demand a refund.
Good luck.
I just got a gt-i9515 as well.
From what I read on other italian forums it appers to be just the same as 9505, but with KitKat 4.4.2 already installed.
Just found another thread here on XDA... probably there are some small differences as well,
and seems digitizer is not working correctly with touch recovery and CM11

awww if I get all this well, My phone is the exact same as a 9505, but the touchscreen is different in a way that makes 9505 ROMs not work on my phone?
yep, lol
It's been like 10+ months since the original S5 was released. Now I am talking about the SM-G900F. Cause there are so many of them, and I m a bit lost as far some of the specs are concerned. Could someone clarify things here a bit? I am a bit surprised this hasn't been discussed already...
I have done some research, and I found the following S5 "variants". I briefly mention the differences from the "base" model, namely "SM-G900F":
Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A SM-G901F (Europe) aka "S5 Plus"
This is one's got 805 SD, Krait 450, Adreno 420 and LTE Cat6
...vs the 801 / 400 / 330 and LTE Cat4 of the base model
Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos SM-G900FD
Same hardware as the based model but with Dual SIM support
My question here is whether the DUOS supports all the video rec modes found in the base model?
e.g. [email protected]?
Also, is the SAR measure based on both SIMS working simultaneously?
Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A G906S
This is shares the same hardware with the G901F (S5 Plus) but it has 3GB of RAM and that incredible 577 ppi from the same size 5.1in screen...right? Supposively exclusive for Korea only, but people say it works fine across Europe at all bands 2G, 3G, LTE...
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active SM-G870F
This one lacks the fingerprint sensor of the base model (which I honestly don't care about) and also hosts the same 16MP camera, but at a slightly less resolution i.e. 3456 x 4608 vs 5312 x 2988
There is an octa-core version of the S5, which I didn't include, as I am not interested in it, as it doesn't support LTE (???!!!)
Now, assuming all these are correct, I m still confused as to which should I chose. The S5 Plus (G901F) is good, but overshadowed by the G906S which has more RAM and a better screen.
I would like to go for the DUOS, but does it have the same camera features of the base model? Is it really as good as the base model in all other areas? Cause its exactly same size/weight, so what gives?
The S5 Active G870F was just released in Europe and it's still too expensive. Otherwise, is the camera as good as the one in the base model?
Or should I just toss everything else and go for the base model G900F, which will also save me some $$ as it's cheaper from the rest?
have a look at the development page see if there is any custom roms and support for each phone.
If you not bothered by that i would like the 3gig ram one please
Thanx juDGEY2k10 (love your avatar btw....)
I m not interested in a custom ROM or rooting the phone at the moment. I just try to make up my mind spec-wise. I too have a slight pref towards the G906S - seems like the best all-rounder
Can I ask - if you have Silent mode ON, does that still mute the camera sounds? (at least in 4.1.2 it did)

Cheers mate!
Just to add up to my previous comment regarding the G906S...well it's out of my consideration. It turns out that the uprated CPU/chipset/GPU combo don't do much good to compesate for its remarkable screen, which sucks away it's juice, making it slower even compared to the original S5. OK, I d like to have that screen, but not at that cost - don't you think too?
I d rather have the 'Plus' version (G901F), which lacks the screen and that 1GB of RAM, but still has the same uprated hardware...
Is it worth the extra money ? Not looked myself but maybe the international one would be better overall if you run into any problems when and if u do want to custom it a bit.
Up to u my mate im sure other users will post their opinion

Was wondering...some of those phones that come as part of a network upgrade (e.g. from T-Mobile in Germany), carry network branding in the software. Like showing "T-Mobile" at phone start up. If there any way around through this? I m not talking a custom ROM, but if it's possible to get the Samsung factory/retail ROM, so that it won't have any branding or logos. Is that possible?

Regarding the brading issue, I found the following:
1. Download debranded firmware for your phone.
2. Open ODIN, boot your phone into Download mode.
3. Connect your phone to your PC and select the firmware in ODIN on PDA section.
4. Click Start and wait for the firmware to install.
5. Boot your phone into Recovery mode and wipe data and factory reset.
6. Reboot your phone.
OK - branding gone for now. But what happens when a new official firmware is released? Will I be able to flash directly from Samsung? Or would I have to use ODIN again? If not, how does Samsung know that this phone is tied to a specific provider? (IMEI?)
Get a stock rom flash it with odin as long as u dont root it or use a custom recovery u should be able to do OTA updates via samsung. Dont think they track the phone in that way its just down to the phone, if its been customised at all (root bla bla not supported by samsung) But you will not be on their list of people who have messed with their phones or anything like that.

Yup. I m only looking for "stock" at the moment, so having OTA update capability is vital for me.
Can anyone confirm this? Someone who tried it on an S5 variant I mean...

Hello,
One of my chinese friend just gave me a note 3 Verizon as my old pre 3 died.
I played a little with it and installed Jasmine 6.1 rom. Then i travelled back to home and i found that i can't use any other sim card than verizon.
Is it possible to change that ? I didn't find anything that helps in the forum.
I apologise for my bad manners and my horible english.
Thanks for your answers.
Your English and manners are very good, so no need to apologize.
I'm no expert in moving phones between carriers. What I will suggest to you is that you search the 9005 forum (International Note 3) and perhaps other, more active Note 3 forums (eg Sprint forum). This particular device forum doesn't have a lot of participants.
Maybe you can find some technique that is applicable to the SM-N900V (Verizon Note 3) with the appropriate modifications.
Keep in mind that the 9005 is an Exynos SOC, not a Qualcomm 8974 SOC, so you certainly can not just flash something from over there on to your SM-N900V. Very different hardware than the Verizon/Tmobile/Sprint Note 3's
For what it is worth, I currently have a CM13 hltespr (Sprint) ROM on my phone that has a very tiny set of mods to allow it to work on Verizon. But that situation might be different from yours - that situation is an example of switching between carriers for which there is a Note 3 variant already supported by Samsung. I guess there must be a built-in carrier configuration database , because that mod seems to only change some carrier "index" values.
good luck with your search. Post a solution if you find one!
Hello,
So far nothing new. I'll seek more actively as soon as i can (my workload is a bit heavy these days).
Thanks for your answer.
I flashed this rom DarkLord.S7E.G935FXXU1APEK and i can use the note 3 with Free sim card (i am currently in France).
I need to test more to see if the phone is stable enought and the battery drain is acceptable.
I'll keep in touch if anything change.
Hello all I've been out of the phone modding game for about 4 years and just picked up a w8 model and like the phone though sad to see no cm.
I've been browsing the site and had a few questions about modding my phone.. Several roms specifically say it supports w8 while others just say 935F.. is there really additional code to support the w8 or the rom just hasn't been verified by the developer?
Also several roms say to install the latest bootloader and modem but the link only takes you to the 935F versions.. I already have the latest update from Wind in Canada which ends in API1 is this good enough or do I need to flash a different downloaded version and if so can someone point me in the right direction for the Wind files..
One last thing.. I see a lot of people discussing flashing a csc.. but not sure what that is. I assume it's local carrier settings or something but how often is it needed? And does it only need to be done with certain roms or if there are certain issues.
I've only really used HTC and Nexus phones previously so don't wanna brick this pretty new toy as I bought it second hand and don't have warranty.
Also.. probably not the place to ask but what roms do you guys prefer that supports w8? I'm looking for something fast debloated and lots of customization.. haven't really seen the N7 so not sure about new UX.. I've usually gone cm all the way so used to default android..
Thanks for any info/advice/recommendations
I can't believe this question isn't answered. All samsung line with a pile of unecessary variations is confusing. I just picked up the phone and have no idea, while it should be same cpu=same rom
Hi,
I bought a Note 4 to replace my smashed note3 ( thanks!!!! ex gf :- ( ), well ran 6.0.1 but speaker was fried IR only worked 1 inch from tv ir sensor , kept randomly rebooting at less than 20% battery life. bluetooth was sketchy on multiple connections to say the least. SO complained got replacement, well replacement sent is note4 just like the last one brand new open box old stock I mean fully clean phone! But this one is the N910T the 1st one shipped was N910T3 (with a bunch of problems).
I choose the "T" because my old one was a note3 was a N900U that really did not work well on the internet side of things i.e. no 4g I am on metro by t-mobile so A T-Mobile phone would be the way to go to get fast internet.
Baseband N910Tuvu1cog2
build # lmy47x.N910tuvu2dok2 snapdragon 805 2.65ghz according to cpu-z
I need some advice, I would like to upgrade my phone to something cool, i.e. But something that will keep most features intact.
While I could live without fingerprint, I really would like to keep IR and the pen stuff intact (i.e. would like to keep scribbling notes) but most importantly I would like to keep the 4glte intact.
Also I need some hints on how to make this fail safe, I don't know much about phone flashing, the last things I flashed were a nook and a psp phat.
Anybody got a good tutorial for a noob possibly on how to back the current firmware up incase it bricks .
Also what do I need to know about the firmwares out there, which ones could you recommend that will be t-mobile/metroPCS compatible. how do I root this thing at least to do the upgrades. and how can I disable root (and should I?) once flashed so root does not leave a back door open for any tom, **** and harry to hack my phone ;- ).
Would be nice to really come into the year 2018 with this phone i.e. Pie , I mean this old flagship phone still puts some of the mid priced phones to shame :- ). But I would need a rom that would work with my phone which t-mobile doesn't even have a MM version out :- (
ANy help would be appriciated, especially where I can read up with some concise info on the upgrade and rescue processes.
Because there is simply too much info out there to really sift through
