I figured it was illegal after reading some posts and looking at the item on ebay more. Thanks alot for the reply. Cheers

You can get prison for that. It's illegal for a reason, otherwise every thief who nicks a phone would just go to a phone shop somewhere and get a new IMEI.

Well, why not bring it back to the seller and have it replaced? If it is new, like you say it is, then you should also have warranty. Are you really sure it is new? Most of the time there is an obvious reason why it is blacklisted... you do the math.
thats all well and good but it was bought of a street trader and according to o2 it went missing in shipping so basically the MATHS isnt so hot .....
Its highly illegal and this site WILL NOT give you answers for this question.
changing imeis is a criminal offence isnt it?

[Q] vodafone called me (aus)

well today i received a phone call from vodafone an australian mobile company
saying that my phone is stolen, they know my name . they asked me where i bought it from, and i told him i bought it online brand new.
the man said that the phone will be investigated and blocked because it was stolen.
can he do this? how did he get my number and name? , i am not with vodafone, im with optus.
the phone was bought online (gumtree) brand new in a box,
i mean is this even possible for them to block my phone, and have my details when im with another network....
my possibilities is that the guy i bought it off stole it?
help please
i think its phone prank...
You shoundnt be worried, first of all i hope you didnt give details like were you live, second of all you should ask his name and say that you will go personally to the office and talk, it`s safer and if it`s a prank or something like that he should end the call.
Gumtree = eBay for criminals.
Maybe the seller is a dodgy character and reported the phone stolen to Voda, who can then block it by IMEI.

This is a possibility - however maybe the seller is a thief and the original owner is reporting it stolen.

Do you have any kind of receipt of your purchase?
Next time he calls - ask for his name & work number (switch, not direct).
I assume Vodafone/Telstra/Optus/3 share names/numbers/IMEI with each other. I think it was part of an effort to make it easier to switch carrier.

i guess you could be right...im afraid
yeah i searched up on google, and all the carriers in australia share blocked imei numbers etc, well its a matter of getting blocked or not, we'll see how everything goes , thanks
Can´t you block the phone through htcsense.com?
I mean,if it is a dishonest seller?
As a general rule of thumb, I never give out any information to anyone over the phone when someone calls me. I also never ask for their contact number, if they say they are from Optus, then I will call Optus directly and ask for their department, etc.
still havent received in any other calls yets, phone still up and running . hopefully it stays like this

Changing IMEI and talking about IMEI changing is forbidden on XDA, sorry to say.
As these are illegal actions or gaining facts to the possibility of illegal actions, we are unable to help you.
Regarding the post linked above, that will only help you recover your existing IMEI/fix a bootloop/repair your EFS. If you know your IMEI is blacklisted the only way to continue is by changing it.
Sorry... Thanks for your help...
I think i have lost 650€....

Go return it to the shop and ask for a refund.
All is not lost u can still sell your phone for parts like screen digitizer, parts etc...outside of North America... Blacklist is different... It can be used overseas...sell it to an overseas buyer on eBay

As @bimjunk said, you could sell it for parts or just sell it online, blacklist is regional, not worldwide.

i like this pohone, i don't want to sell it ;(
This can still be fixed. I experienced this already. I flashed using Odin the original stock rom that came with it. Make sure to check /tick re-partition option in Odin.
I tried so many times to restore the pit file that I backed up, but happy that flashing original rom using Odin with re-partition option ticked worked.
Goodluck and hope it works.

You're misreading the OP. He said his phone is blacklisted where he is and wants to change the IMEI. No matter what happens if he gets his IMEI back he would still be blacklisted.

what did you mean by blacklisted?
If you cannot access the current network (your home network), you can change to another SIM of another network.
As blacklist is network-dependence.
I don't know another meaning of blacklist?
The imei is blacklisted by network provider
So just change your sim card to another network. Done.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Well most of the time all the networks of a region or country collaborate on a blacklist...like in Canada and US... If one operator blacklists you, the national blacklist has your imei and your phone is useless in that region...from ethics pov your have a phone which was reported lost or stolen...sell it for parts or sell it overseas
I dont want to sell it i know its possible to change imei, for example with spt box. .. please team, help me. ..

any way to change imei?

Hi Guys,
my Problem is that i buyed my father a new phone. he lives in turkey and if you want to use a phone longer than 1 month in turkey you must register it. otherwise they block your imei and you cant use the phone. so i want to change the imei from the new phone to the old one what is registered, otherwise my father must pay about 150€, and thats not okay. i bought the phone in media markt germany and i got the receipt. i think its not okay that you have to pay that money to the state, if you buy a new phone.. thats crazy and much money for nothing. the older phone is a galaxy s2 what has a registered IMEI and i want to change the IMEI of the new phone to the older ones, that he doesnt have to pay for the new phone. so my question, can i do a EFS backup of the galaxy s2 and restore it on a galaxy s5, is it possible? or is there another way to change the IMEI of the phone? in my opinion its not illegal in that way, cause i got the receipt and the original boxes of those phones. i am from germany so excuse me for my school english, i hope you know what i mean.
thanks in advance
In a word.......no
The IMEI is a number that is unique to every cellphone. In many countries, altering this number is against the law. If anybody here on XDA gives you information on how to do it, they'll be breaking XDA rules too.......
Sorry fella....no help on this site.....

As already stated, no it can't be unlocked and it's most likely a stolen phone
Check the IMEI here http://imeipro.info/
Does the phone asks for a code or does it prompt any message on the display?

Got same issue. Not been able to buy a new one went for second hand and after the check look like the phone is blacklisted. I cannot afford to lose £350.
There should be a way to make it working. If cannot be said . can someone with good hearth send a link or point to some other forum where this is explained.
On youtube people charge a fortune to make it working. So someone knows how to do it
Thanks for your understanding

We do not discuss imei changing or blacklist repair. It is either a stolen phone. Or it was blacklisted due to non payment. I would take the sales receipt you got to a police station and file charges on the seller for selling property he wasn't allowed to sell
