N10 w/Lollipop: is f2fs a waste of time? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've decided to try out 5.0 on my N10, and previous to this I was running f2fs with 4.4.4 and saw a huge improvement in performance. So my question is, for those who may have tried this, is it worth it do go with f2fs while running Lollipop, or will Lollipop alone provide such a performance enhancement that f2fs will be unnecessary?

Absolutely worth it.

Are you guys staying on stock 5.x? I know I would have to use kernel that supports F2FS. Which one do you prefer? Thanks

What are the benefits of using f2fs?

I changed my s4 i9505 over to f2fs to flash lollipop, but I have no idea why f2fs differs, or what the benefits are. Is it supposed to be faster?
I'm using Antaresone's unofficial cm12, and its lightning fast, and I've not unearthed any bugs, and a couple of bugs that have been mentioned don't exist on my install, so I'm a happy guy. Loving lollipop, definitely the best version of android that I've ever used, and I've flashed a huge amount of ROMs on different Samsung Galaxy series phones. Android definitely heading in the right direction I think.
But yeah, f2fs... Anyone know anything about it?
For anyone interested, or wondering whether to change over or not, I found this thread.

F2FS with the new update?

Just a quick question seeing if its beneficial to format to f2fs since the update fixed something with storage performance? What do you guys think.
About the same with F2FS having a slight edge. I ran benchmarks on both. Stock 5.0.2 was a 1900 score and a 5.0.1 AOSP ROM was a 2100 score. I'm waiting for a 5.0.2 AOSP ROM

[I9505] CM12 nightlies vs official stock ROM for Lollipop?

Hi guys,
Now that the stock ROM has been around for a week, I was curious if someone made the switch from CM12 or any other custom lollipop ROM to stock and would like to share their experience?
I, for instance, switched from CM11 (4.4.4) to stock and found the battery drain worse than in kitkat. Customization is also a clear drawback on stock lollipop since Xposed modules are not ported yet. Would like to know if any custom ROM matches the stability of stock and goes beyond it's features :what:
I don't usually use GPE or CM roms but I'm really really liking JFLTE-GPE 5.0.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353.
I've using it for a week and been having great battery. Last night I just installed Xposed alpha for Lollipop with GravityBox[LP} with no issues.

http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.ceco.lollipop.gravitybox
Using the same GPE rom as posted above for about 3 months. No problems.
It also has good battery life. If you let the phone idle, it will last you around 2 weeks
That's what the battery stats reported this morning.
I used CM11 for a long time, (since it was released till now), and I have to say, I'm a fan of being technical updated. ATM I'm using the Stock 5.0.1 Samsung Lollipop (of course, with removed Bloatware), and I'm afraid. I like the Samsung UI für the Stock, thats a little reason for me to use the Stock-ROMs. I don't have any Battery issues or find it worse than CM11. And even if, I've got my JBL Charge and Charge 2 to charge my phone in city. haha.
Well, i like them both but for now, I prefer Stock 5.0.1 (and can't wait for 5.0.2/5.1.0). Maybe i change back to CM12 (Antares/Alucard) when they made a 5.1.0 Update (forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2943934).
I too used CM11 for a while on my i9505 and I loved the customization freedom. But I was pretty miserable about the battery life and overheating issues. Also, the stock camera was MUCH MUCH better than the one on CM 11 or even the Google Cam.
I am now back to stock with 5.0.1 and the battery life and camera have revived. But I equally miss the customization, so was wondering if anyone would recommend a custom ROM over stock.
I just went through an ordeal all for Viper4Android. Tried various kernel work arounds on stock 5.0.1 to get the V4A driver to install (no luck). Flashed to CM 12.1 and thought I was set only to find that cellular service (no sim card) didn't work. Flashed back to CM 11 and had the same issue. Then tried a ROM call Triforce and bricked my phone. Ended up doing a factory reset/wipe back to Lollipop 5.0.1 and now everything works again, but I'm not happy with the sound quality I'm getting now vs what I had with V4A under Kitkat. Wish I'd have never upgraded. V4A was wonderful. Anyway, CM 12.1 seemed to be pretty good for the short time I had it.
Part of me wants to try CM again but I don't want to go through all the problems.
Viper4Android needs a permissive kernel to work. If SELinux status is Enforcing then it won't work. Generally custom kernels have it set to permissive.

You are correct. The stock Lollipop kernel would never change to permissive no matter what the SELinux setting was. Very frustrating. Only solution that I could find was kernel replacement via a different ROM. Didn't quite work out though due to the cellular network loss.
Edit: back on topic, I made the switch but only out of necessity and not desire.

F2FS - any easy way for daily flashers?

Hi guys,
I was thinking about giving F2FS a run on my old one. But as I am sticking around with CM13 nightlies, which means flashing new builds every now and then, I do not fancy tinkering a lot with the setup just for F2FS. Is there an easy flash setup?
cheers
fast maybe not, easy yes
use @sultanxda rom with kernel mod or Du as they updates in 3 weeks
use unofficial twrp 3.0.0.1 for converting to F2fs
backup to pc
this 1time work is of 30 min but seems u consider this long so say no, it makes little diff to one plus one as its fast enough and smoothness is not guaranteed
There is no appreciable difference. neither better battery life. so i dont see the point.

Samsung S4 i9505 f2fs question

First of all sorry for the probably "very" noob question (if it is), okay to be on topic:
Recently I was curious about f2fs format and I heard it is better than ext4.
I did a little bit of research but I'm not really satisfied.
I heard only CM roms support f2fs on Galaxy S4 I-9505, for kernel it's not my concern because there are kernel that supports that format.
My questions are these:
-Is it true touchwiz rom are not supported? If so, why it can't. If not, what tw rom is/are supproted?
-Can I really benefit for f2fs format, or better is it really worth to try?
I hope I can be satisfied after being answered so if possible I prefer a very exhaustive answer.
Thank you very much.
P.s. Please don't kill me and be gentle if possible.
From my understanding, F2FS has to be supported by the kernel.
F2FS was also developed by Samsung, as far as I know, so I don't know why their ROMs/kernels would not support it.
F2FS is supposed to improve write speeds. So only writable partitions (data, cache, internal).would benefit from it. The system partition is read only and would not benefit by being converted to F2FS.
The improvements are barely noticeable.
You'll get a better general performance improvement by switching to a custom ROM than switching to F2FS.

First of all thank you for answering.
I actually find kernels that support f2fs so it's not a real problem after all.
I'm still wondering if custom roms actually support it but probably I should ask the rom developer, this is my real concern because I heard touchwiz rom doesn't support f2fs format and maybe having only a supported kernel isn't enough to have it working correctly.
So if I want to convert my phone in f2fs, I should only format data, cache and internal, I understand it so again thanks.
I really want to try converting for my curiousity but I don't know if I should give it a shot.
I had a few problems with F2FS in the past. Problems like data loss, like a complete factory reset of the phone during a reboot.
