Hi,
Searched through Google and XDA couldn't find a proper step by step instruction to enable LTE on my Nexus 4 with latest Lollipop version. Every website says the same ditto instruction as they have copy pasted from one another.
I am sure some one can give me detailed instruction to enable LTE on my nexus 4 which is not rooted. I understand from different threads that it should be rooted to flash the LTE modem image, but is it possible to achieve it without custom ROM like TWRP and without wiping the data?

Not if your bootloader isn't unlocked. To do an ADB push, you need to have an unlocked bootloader, and unlocking your bootloader wipes your data. At this time you can't root your Nexus 4 without unlocking the bootloader on Lollipop. If you were rooted, there is an app that locks/unlocks the bootloader on later Nexus devices without wiping your data (although I don't know if it works on 5.0).

1)TWRP isn't a ROM but a Recovery
2)Is it that bad to install a custom recovery in order to achieve this thing?
3)If it is, what are you doing on XDA?
4)Just install TWRP
5)Just flash the .zip file
6)Just do it.
Does everyone forget you can BOOT recovery and NOT flash it?!?! I understand completely why the OP doesn't want TWRP, it will stop further OTA's and cause bootloop conditions on an otherwise stock device if an OTA is received.
If you really want to remain stock, except LTE enabled, and are unlocked, download the TWRP image and have working ADB and fastboot, boot TWRP with the command
fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-mako.img
then flash the LTE enabler ZIP... Or just use the Wugfresh's toolkit and flash the ZIP... both options will not install TWRP, just boot a temp copy to flash the needed files, leaving every thing else but the radios and LTE enable SQL database changes completely stock.
Remember this will only enable Band 4 LTE (1700/2100Mhz AWS), it doesn't enable any other LTE as it isn't supported in the hardware, and that band is only used in Canada, Mexico, USA, and a few central american countries.
BTW, this has been discussed and walked through step-by-step in the LTE Enabler thread and Mako Hybrid modem thread, if people would bother to read more then the first and last post, it would be right there...

Thanks fr3quency. Sorry I am still learning and getting used to all the terms.
I had my TWRP recovery installed to enable LTE in Kitkat, but had issues in Lollipop OTA as it lands in TWRP Screen during update and i am lost, not knowing what to do. So I flashed it with Stock and then did the OTA. Looking at XDA if there are any options without TWRP or overcome the problem i had in future OTA.

Gotcha... Only real requirement is you must be unlocked, and there are ways to unlock without wiping... Google can be your friend for that info. ?

I want to first say that I did not figure out this method on my own, I saw it on Google+ via Matthew Pierce and modified it to make it easier to follow
Second, do not try this on a device with a locked bootloader. You need the unlocked bootloader to do this.
You'll want to first download these 2 things
1) Superuser zip to be installed in recovery (from Chainfire) -> http://download.chainfire.eu/366/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v1.72B.zip
2) New TWRP for 4.4 KitKat (from Hashcode)-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534850
Here's the method to get root:
1) let the system fully install the 4.4 Kitkat ota and reboot. Make sure you are on the first OTA before you try to install the KitKat OTA, otherwise your phone could have major issues. After it installs, do not do anything else, let it boot into android.
1b) Take the SuperSU installable zip and place it onto the internal storage
2) reboot phone to bootloader.
3) install Hashcode's TWRP using mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img. (use the motorola fastboot binary)
4) reboot device to recovery, do not boot into android before this step!
5) go to install and find then select BETA-SuperSU-v1.72B.zip
6) Boot back into android, and if needed, go to the Play Store and install SuperSU from Chainfire
7) enjoy root!
If you do this correctly you will regain root.

Ha. Classic.
I wasn't aware that this was the case with unlocked bootloaders. I just came from my S3 where an unlock method was readily available when I purchased the phone. In either case, I think this information is useful for noobs (such as myself) if unlocking the bootloader is an option (like myself).
Also, I hope you're having luck with the new root method for non-dev variants, jcase.

Agree.
Usually flash using the fastboot command in the SDK-platform-tools.
Comments suggest that that will not work and I need mfastboot, motorola binary. Unfamiliar with that one.
Appreciate a constructive comment. We all have to start somewhere.
Thanks.
Hello all. I just got my nexus 9 LTE rooted without a hitch!! I dont know how smart it was, but i did it anyway. Do this at your own risk! First of all, im not using a SIM card with the tablet. I took it out. I unlocked the bootloder. To do this, you must first go into the OS and goto developer settings. There is an option "allow device to be oem unlocked" and you must check it. Then you reboot tablet into bootloader mode, issue "fastboot oem unlock" and confirm. After this, you can fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (twrp.img being recovery image, i used twrp 2.8.3.0 for flounder, wifi only). Its available on their website at http://www.teamw.in . Then, just to be safe, i made a backup. After this I flashed the SuperSU 2.40 package in TWRP. Wipe cache/dalvik. Reboot. And walla! I used root checker to verify root access and it was there! I have posted below the exact packages I used. Please post results on this thread!
Edit - I wanted to point out that the reason why i started this thread is because as of right now, 12-31-14, there is no recovery available for the nexus 9 LTE version, but im simply saying that i flashed the wifi version and it worked fine. Thanks

Your welcome.. (Mine is also from T-Mobile) remember to unlock the bootloader and that when you do this you will lose all of your stuff so dont put anything on it until after its rooted. But also be warned that these packages arent made for the LTE version, but they do work. I actually even flashed a wifi-only rom on it and it ran fine. I dont recommend doing that though. I would imagine that the recovery would be exactly the same for the lte version as the wifi version considering they have probably identical hardware and identical file systems. Good luck!
Nexus 9 LTE root on Mac
Got my nexus 9 today. I was able to successfully unlock the device using this method (i have a mac):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--XCsNcyH2w
Then I tried utlizing the method explained by deoidmodder but the su files were not injected into my device for whatever reason. Using this method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3GhE9L-OGE) so I had to manually inject the files as described in bynarie's original post. I then manually booted into recovery and was able to install SU. Once my device turned back on, I had to update SU, verified root using root check and profit!!
As Bynarie stated, make a back up before you root. Keep it in a safe place.
I apologise if this is not the correct forum so someone please correct me if necessary thanks.
I have a Google Nexus 10 with the Stock 5.0.1 ROM, an unlocked bootloader, and a custom TWRP Recovery.
My Nexus has just automatically downloaded the 5.0.2 update but when I tap on INSTALL it simply boots into TWRP Recovery. If I try to manually install from there I get the "failed" message?
I think this may be because my bootloader is unlocked but before I lock it I need to ask some questions. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 (Intl) which I have been rooting and switching custom ROMs with for a couple of years so I am familiar with rooting and flashing recovery and ROM images so will hopefully understand any replies so here goes:
1 Will automatic update resume if I lock my bootloader again?
2 If I do lock my bootloader will anything happen, that is, will anything get erased/restored?
3 If I laterUNlock my bootloader will anything happen, that is, will anything get erased/restored?
4 In summary I'm thinking I can lock my bootloader to allow the automatic install of update 5.0.2 and then simply unlock the bootloader again if I need to?
I would appreciate any comments/advice. Thanks

Let's do HARD reinstall. Make sure to backup the data you wanna keep as it will be erased in the process.
Download the official google factory images.
Read the instructions( really easy)
Install trhought adb
You can boot into 5.0.2
Bingo!
Hi Guys,
Long story short, I bought the LeEco Pro 3 US version due to the awesome Tmobile network support. The modem supports band 12 and WiFi calling and I was happy with it. But eventually notification issues and the horrible EUI got under my skin and I decided to install CM13 keeping the phone as untouched as possible so that I can revert back to stock whenever needed.
I followed below steps:
1. Enabled developer options and enabled USB debugging.
2. Went the Developer Options and enabled OEM Unlocking.
3. Did adb reboot bootloader to get into the bootloader menu.
4. Did fastboot unlock-go command to unlock the bootloader. I noticed that if I did this command and rebooted the phone, the phone reverted back to being locked again. But I could run the command again from bootloader screen and unlock it (as long as the developer options had the OEM unlocking enabled). So I was never permanently unlocked, just unlock at will whenever I wanted.
5. Then I downloaded the twrp.img file and from fastboot screen i did fastboot boot twrp.img, which booted me inot twrp screen. I was able to switch the language to english but i didnt do the permanent system modification. I did not root the phone as well through the menu.
6. Now, I plugged in a USB OTG drive in the phone. Usb OTG drive had CM13 ROM + Gapps on it.
7. Using the TWRP menu, I did a factory data reset and made a backup of all partitions of the LeEco Phone and saved it into USB OTG drive.
8. Then I installed the CM13 rom on the phone. Followed by Gapps and then rebooted the phone. The phone wouldnt boot.
9. I immediately rebooted the phone into the fastboot menu and tried to run the fastboot boot twrp.img, and got an error message that the device is not unlocked. Which is when i noticed that the phone is bricked.
So Long story short, I have a locked bootloader and I want to to retain my modem. I was given a suggestion to boot into the stock recovery and put the x720 update.zip file and install it. But that would flash the CN modem as well. Can I delete the modem file from the CN rom and flash the update.zip? Can someone help me there? All I want is the modem for the US rom and CM13, thats it.
Thank you guys for reading this post, it helps to talk to XDA about such issues, my wife would just kick my butt because I broke a phone, again!

No I didn't wipe the system before installing CM13. Usually the ROM installation scripts do system wipes.
This is the reason why I am hesitant to do this thing as there are no clear (step-by-step) procedures and there is no solid benefit (in fact your will lose some features). Can't it be possible to just create a CM or any other ROM that could be downloaded and rename into update.zip and load it directly renaming the X720 ROM? ^_^
Try unlocking bootloader again with fastboot method as you didn't do it the first time. Then try fastboot boot twrp.img

He will not be able to unlock again due to the fact that he installed CM13 on an unlocked bootloader. I did read where you can flash the CN bootloader on a locked bootloader. Look at post #44 from the "X727 (US Model) Persistent bootloader unlock from 5.8.019s" thread.

If that doesn't work then you will need to install the CN rom using the stock bootloader.

Sorry for the late answer but to add to that, it happened to me that the ROM didn't have a wipe script thus bricking another of my device. I reinstalled it after wiping the system and it worked.
I don't have the time to do a delicate search to find solutions with school and work, so if I could get community help, I would be grateful.
I had rooted marshmallow, but had to wipe because of tapjacking malware.
I apparently wiped TWRP and haven't been able to get it quite back to normal.
Currently I'm on 2017U B15 Nougat. I've tried wiping, but get "Can't install from SD" on stock recovery.
Developer settings won't allow me to check Unlock OEM.
I would like rooted TWRP so I can install Nougat ROMS and xposed.
Can anyone give me a clean guide with a clear cut list of wipes and installs I need to perform?
As for the Radio, when I'm driving in the country and my connection switches from LTE to 4G and my music stops streaming. I can usually manually switch bands by using *#*#4636#*#*, selecting Phone information, and Select Radio Bands from the settings. Switching to 800mhz or 800mhz-secondary(Class 10) usually snaps LTE back on immediately. Is there anyway to keep the frequencies changing to keep constant LTE so I never fall into 4G unless that's the only option?
