I just came home and opened up my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition to find a software update. My Note is rooted and I am affraid of losing my root. Will this update override my root? or is it safe to update? If not safe, how do I ignore the update?
Thank You!

You will not be able to take any ota updates when you are rooted, the updater will see you are rooted and will give a a message like your device has been modified and cannot take this update. But you can Obin flash the update by using this mirror: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2719750 for the update.

Just rooted my N7 and when I rebooted, I got a message "System Update Available". If I update the system, will I lose root?
Try it and let us know.
from my experience with updating previous device after roooting, you will loose root after the udpate but you can still root again.

But then if I have to root again, I go back to the original OS version, right? So seems like a waste of time?

Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are not the same things. Flash su.zip to root.
If it is an ota update...go in superuser user app and check ota survival and ur root may survive the update

Don't take the update, you'll lose root. Open titanium backup and freeze sdm 1.0 to stop the update notifications.

You are correct, I lost root.
I am a noob when it comes to android. I came from the Iphone world. Can I re flash with the De vaga? To get root back?
Frooze it with Titanium Backup Pro
I frooze the SDM part with Titanium backup. I hope this works - this morning I delayed the update to 5pm so I hope when this time rolls around that I won't be bothered with the update. I am running the N900VVRUBMI9 baseband version and really hope that the safestrap method works and that we soon get custom roms that will make this a thing of past.

DO NOT DO THIS. Flashing back to MI9 from the new update will fail in odin and at worst will softbrick you and you'll need to flash the pit file

You cannot update a rooted device via OTA - it'll download, but it won't install. You have to unroot to install it, and I don't even think it works. - Better flashing it via Odin, then re-rooting.
Galaxy S5 Verizon
My device is rooted. I am not using any ROM. How do I perform a safe and easy system update to 4.4.4 without losing my root?

Not sure what you are looking to gain from updating. I've been told adding mods as you like to mock update, as oppose to taking the update and losing root because of the patched exploit is the better way to go.

Nope, locked bootloader prevents changing the kernel, so once you upgrade that's it.
To the OP: 4.4.4 for the Verizon S5 isn't even out yet.

I saw a question just like this about a month ago and one the replies was something like this... " if you people out there want the new stuff just to be running NEW, you shouldn't even be rooted because you don't really understand the value of it. You don't even appreciate it." You should be happy, as it is, with the fact that that there are at least 5 Custom Rom's out there AND all you had to do was sideload an apk. Updates are not necessarily stable OR really add anything...usually just a patch for those that are too eager for "New", so you can't be rooted.
Why do you think there are OTA blockers on these Rom's? For a reason. It's just too easy now. You didn't even have to plug your phone into your PC and execute a console exe like for the S2. Some of us actually had to wait patiently for like a month just hoping for a developer to find an exploit! :SMH:

I'm still on 4.4.2 and was wondering if I should go up?
I had it rooted initially to remove bloatware and block the OTA but had to unroot to test apps at work.
I would like to keep the ability to root available. Is it worth upgrading? I think I recall hearing battery life was worse but don't know if that has been cleared up by now.
Also I remember checking VZ site a while back for an installer and it didnt seem they had one. Is it only available through OTA? I would have to remember how to reenable that. Or would I need to do something with Odin? I haven't used that since my Galaxy S 4G.
I was hesitant, but then did it using a stock rooted rom.
Currently on 5.0 rooted using xposed and am very happy for the past 3 months.
