Hi all
Like the title says, do we think Google will release a fix for the laggy performance on the nexus 7. My wife's nexus got the update a few weeks ago and since then it's been almost unusable. She is not rooted and we don't want to go down that road
My Nexus 7 2013 has not got the update yet so I'm hoping they are working on fixes.
Any thoughts?

I noticed the same. But even before the update my N7 was having performance issues. Things got better after a Reset. But then I decided to try the Encryption feature and that is when I got stuck. Now it has been 15 hours and the device is still stuck on the startup screen. I don't think encryption takes so long....

Are u using more then one account on it? (I think that switching between 2 accounts affect performance)
Done a factory reset.. Seems better
I turned on Develop Options then scrolled to the bottom and checked off "Kill all activities when you leave them" and I really don't have the lag anymore.
I as well am experiencing major lag with 5.0 on my 2012 nexus 7. I flashed the image when it was avaliable so a fresh start. I'm not rooted and also tried clearing cache via the recovery menu. I really hope there is a fix in sight or I'll be going back to KK or custom rom like cyanogenmod.

I had not previously tried that because I was not sure if the system is meant to run continually with that option enabled. It's more for testing I thought. However I did enable this option and rebooted. The result was an increase in performance but I think it only acts as a band-aid. We (users) should not be forced to take such measures after installing a fresh image or updating to the latest and greatest from android. I still hope there will be patch to resolve whatever issue seems to be causing the lag.
On a side note after disabling the Dev option and rebooting I'm noticing better performance. Not sure if this is a fluke or what but I thought it was with mentioning.
Thank you.
Something has happened. They've pulled the OTA. I've got 2 N7 2012s. One has been updated and is useless despite any cache cleanup and factory reset. The other is still running 4.4.4 and does no longer offer the lollipop upgrade to brick status.
I cleared cache and did the 'Kill all activities...' without any success. I don't want to wipe the device because my wife uses it and it is setuped the way she wants it... but is unusable right now. Will wait for 5.0.1 if that doesn't do the trick will restore 4.4.4

I have hesitated updating my kids N7's for the time being but you really should try going into Developer options and do two things.
Change Transition animations to 0.5
AND
Kill all activities when you leave them(that might not be the exact wording but you can't miss it)
My tablet is very useful at this point but knowing Google is pushing 5.01 to other Nexus devices I will hold off for my kids tablets.

I've tried every tip I've come across including cache wipe, factory reset, developer options and stripping the system from everything that isn't strictly necessary. None of this makes noticeable difference. I've even seen people suggest hardware failure, but I find it hard to believe that a tablet that has shown no symptoms at all in the past should break the minute it is upgraded.

Hello all,
I just bought an S3 and updated it to 4.1.1 stock. I like this device but I am very disapointed by how buggy is the stock 4.1.1 ...
I currently own a Xoom running the stock 4.1.2 and never found a single bug using it for months.
I only use my S3 with stock 4.1.1 and already met multiple annoying bugs !
- if I set the Wifi to auto-disable when the S3 goes to the lock screen, then, when Wifi does re-enable, it connects well to the router but I cannot acess to internet. This bug does not exist on the S3 mini running stock 4.1.1.
- the S3 randomly reboot, it rebooted 3 times in about 12 hours.
- the email application has a display problem : the screen flashes black when I scroll an email.
- some apps crash with no reason : stock web browser, stock camera app ...
- the stock browser bookmarks preview is not available : all bookmarks are displayed with a grey icon instead of the web page preview.
- some features in the parameters menu has no effect, they just don't work even when activated : the feature which disables the screen when you're not watching it for exemple, there are some others which did not work but I can't remember which ones.
And as I am only using it for 24 hours I am afraid of discovering some more bugs soon ...
Am i the only one to meet these bugs ?
Is CM10 for S3 less buggy ?
Does anyone know when stock 4.2 should be available for the S3 ?
Thanks
i have 0 problems you mentioned.. try a reset and see if it solve. or just install a custom rom ( you can always return to stock in case of warranty's necessity)
Yes, I already tried to power off the S3. I don't want to use a custom ROM for now, I think for such a high level device I shouldn't have to. I can't understand why so many bugs could be found in less than 24 hours on a stock ROM, this is not serious from Samsung : they waited several months before releasing Jelly Bean for the S3 and finally the ROM is as buggy as an early custom ROM ...
This is a big dispointment for me.
no power off, but a wipe at factory reset
try it!
Settings---> backup and restore--->factory reset ( is the last in list, don't know how is written as i'm using italian language)
Suggest you have a problem and you return the phone either for exchange or refund .
- the S3 randomly reboot, it rebooted 3 times in about 12 hours.
>>> That suggests problem with the phone or an app its not normal behavior .
some apps crash with no reason : stock web browser, stock camera app
>> As above .
Twelve hours and you updated
OTA or Kies update or a self update ????
.. Any of those going wrong could give above symptoms .
Does anyone know when 4.2.1 should be available for the S3 ?
>>> No known date .
jje
I am using the stock 4.1.1 release so I just did the OTA update, everything went fine during the upgrade.
If I am the only one to meet these problems it may be due to hardware issues ... Too bad ...
Not seen any of those bugs at all on ICS nor on JB.
You need to do a complete factory reset.
I don't understand why I would need to do a factory reset : I am just using it for less than 24 hours ...
That's crazy if I already need to do this ... Loosing data and reinstalling everything ... Please, not yet !
I am more an more thinking of installing CM10 ROM, but it seems to have too many issues for now.
I wonder if I just shouldn't get my money back ...
I also suspect you got bad luck and received the only faulty device in store.
Been using mine constantly for 10 days on stock rom without any problems.
Earlier today, I could not wait for 4.1.2 any longer and flashed this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944035
Been using it also without any problems.
No such problems for me, I expect there was a slight issue when you updated. I would just reflash via Odin and see if that fixes your problems.

because, maybe, in OTA process something is gone wrong ( like some datas of application not compatible or corrupted during the process)
Might want an exchange as you may have a faulty device..
Considering you're having that many problems in such a short period of time, I think you should return the phone and get a replacement. It's clearly a faulty device. If I were you, I wouldn't bother trying to reflash firmware for it or anything, I'd just go straight to wherever I bought it and demand a new one. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
Never had a random reboot on my s3 running stock. It has happened running custom kernels but that's a different kettle of fish entirely.

So I finally decided to do a factory reset. All my reboots / Wifi problems are gone now. But I still need a more time to judge this as my problems came after a few hours of use. Thanks to all of you for your advices !
Still, the feature wich uses the front camera to power off the display if you don't watch it does not work at all ...
Dude, return it asap. Mine also did that the first week before totally failing and getting stuck in the inicial samsung logo without possible recovery. Very high chances of happening the same to yours. Plenty of "omfg my phone's totally dead" threads around to confirm this, don't be another one.

OK, so this one is a real bug. Not a big deal as I don't want to use it anyway (I was just curious to try it) because I guess leaving the front camera working may decrease battery life and performances.

No problems here, Factory reset (power off the phone, push the volume up + home + power button continuously)
Choose factory reset and you should be okay.

Hi,
My Nexus 7 2012 (very first batch) is quite often behaving really slowly. It is common for the settings screen to take 15-20 seconds to open. From the homescreen. With no running app.
Here is a video after I've reset everything to factory defaults, let it run and index things on its own for an hour and then manually upgrade a small app:
At other times, the speed is pretty decent for such a tablet. I just can't figure out why this difference. I've tried to check for wakelocks, tried a logcat and many other things. I can't make any sense from it.
Rebooting the tablet seems to have 50% chance of fixing the problem. So it's probably not a memory leak.
The tablet is rooted, on the latest build and I noticed that App Ops X survived the reset but no funky software is installed and the behaviour predates the installation of App Ops X. The network is not a problem here. The 2013 Nexus 7 of my wife works just fine and so does the Nexus 5 taking the above video.
How can I investigate this ? Is there an app that can run various reliable diagnostics to find out what kind of activity is causing trouble ? I tried to use logcat but the result is quite verbose and nothing rings a bell. I would really like to understand rather than just return it and wait or, worse, buy a new device.
Thanks.
Let me know if you find a solution my Nexus 7 has been really slow, Im rooted with CM11 M6 & KK GAPPS, TWRP 2.7.0.0 I dont know what happened to this tablet.

Mine too. Nexus 7 2012 16GB running PA 3.99 (JB4.3). PA Kernel and GAPPS, PA launcher or whatever one came with stock PA.
It takes upwards of 10 seconds to unlock frequently, even from a fresh boot, and without any security just a simple swipe unlock.
App drawer can take 10-15 seconds to open.
If I touch too much during these lag times I will often get a launcher not responding error.
I've about given up myself and am looking at other ROMs. Before I reflash though I may try a different kernel.
I'm downloading a few right now and I'll hopefully remember to report back my results.
Mine is suddenly unbearably slow too. It's a 2012 edition and I'm not rooted, running the stock software. I've tried clearing caches (app and system), doing a factory reset, flashing the factory image, but it just runs like a dog. When I switch it on it takes a few minutes to become responsive, and apps regularly say they will take upwards of 20 minutes to download updates - small apps too, about 3MB. The download issues are nothing to do with my wifi as the tablet is slow wherever I use it, and my Nexus 5 downloads the same things in a matter of seconds. Would love to know what I could do to fix my N7. I don't want to root it or flash a custom ROM - don't want to go down that route - I just want the great performance that I had from it before.
I was having the same issues described here as well after owning the tablet for awhile, and tried every custom ROM, kernel, and android version I could find for our device along the way, in the hopes of finding a solution.
The one thing that finally helped for me, was formatting the device to use F2FS file system format on all partitions. The initial setup is a bit tedious, as you will lose ALL data on the device, so first must back up everything, then restore it all once the device has been reformatted. But the payoff has been huge for both me and my wife.
Making this switch has made both of our tablets usable again, even enjoyable! It's well worth the effort put in to make the switch.
See this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678140, which has the modified recovery, files, and instructions needed to convert. It also helps to first make sure you can successfully use fastboot/ADB commands from your PC to the device, in case you get into any trouble along the way.
There's also an app now available for converting any rom to all-f2fs (prior to flashing), it's cheap and well worth the cost (about the price of a cup of coffee) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runnerway.converttof2fs&hl=en.
So like the title says, I'm a new Nexus 6P user, and I had problems out of the gate.
I bought the device 2nd hand from a guy off craigslist, after my S6 edge started over heating after I had the screen replaced (don't buy Samsung "edge" phones, I know your careful, but on the off chance you drop it, your in a world of trouble).
I tested the phone, before I bought it, it appeared pretty much brand new, everything worked. When I got home, and hard reset it again for good measure all hell broke lose.
After a hard reset the phone wanted to update to build 19 something. After the update and a reboot, the phone app kept crashing before I could finish the setup process. The only thing I could do is factory reset it again. This appeared to clear up that problem. I did the near by device thing, and restored it from what Google could find out about my S6 edge. I wish it was more of a restore like what you can do in the iOS world, but it's better then what we had before so it's cool. I noticed that Chrome would crash everytime you tried to use it only in less I uninstalled the update. After I got the phone to the point where I wanted it, I thought I was free in the clear. When I started trying to use music apps, they all crash. Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud. Then I noticed YouTube also crashed the same way. When I tried to make a phone call, the phone app would crash too... So the phone was useless. I downloaded the SDK and the most current build which I think was 20 something. I followed a guide on here and formatted the phone reinstalling everything around build 20. The only thing this fixed was the phone issue.
I could now make phone calls without it crashing, but I was in the same boat with some applications working, and the same ones that didn't work not working. I flashed this phone 5, or 6 times, with the last time me formatting the userdata. I read that it wasn't a good idea because it could lock me to only 32GB ( I had a 64GB version), but after I did the flashing along with the usedata format, I still had 64GB of useable space, however I still had the same issue with the same types of applications crashing. I tried older builds, same issue (also the older builds all had the problem with the phone app crashing to the point that the phone wasn't usable).
I ended up sending the phone to the manufacturer, which appears to be in the same metroplex I live in. Hopefully they can find a hardware problem under warenty and fix it. I'm making this post to see if anyone else ran into similar issues, and if anyone knows if this is a hardware build issue, that was hopefully resolved.
I'm sorry to be so long winded...

My S10+ becomes super lagging and sometimes freezing after newest fw upgrade (G975FXXU1ASE5) on May 22. Anyone having the same problem?
First thing i'd try if it was mine, if you haven't already, is a factory reset. Between Googles backup and Samsungs backup you can get it pretty much back the way you had it before resetting. I always make sure to do a fresh backup using both Google and Samsung first. Then Factory reset. Full restore using google when system asks which backup you want to use, use the latest one you just made of course, then restart and do the Samsung restore through Samsung cloud on top of Googles. I usually get all apps and Data restored without missing much. Home screens and widgets are restored. It's almost like i didn't do a reset at all. If it's still Laggy, then factory reset again and don't restore it. See how it works then. That way you're not restoring any App or setting that could've been causing your issue. It looks like you've been around here about 10 years so this all may be nothing new to you, but this is how i would do it.
Factory reset doesn't seem to help according to reports about rhis update.
Okay well flash in Odin and use CSC to perform a full wipe on the device... See if you still have the same issue. Consider Frija or Samfirm
People report it's something to do with the WiFi drivers, try switching it off and use mobile data to see if it persists

i dont really want to use the factory reset option because you wont know which app causing the problem.
im trying disabling app by app. so far i guess theres also something wrong with the fingerprint driver. i have a feeling the lagging always starts with fingerprint then it causes the whole system lagging and freezing.
maybe the optimize battery usage feature is way too aggressive? it freezes the fingerprint service while system tries to wake it up then it causes an endless loop and end up with a memory leak?? just blindly guessing so pls correct me if am wrong.

Workaround for this is to switch off WiFi as there is some problems with the WiFi certificates.
Use Mobile data for the internet connection and you will not face any laggyness or issues.

BTW people with problem, do you remember in developer options if there was before this update option to enable hardware acceleration for modem?
Could you for test try disable that option and reboot phone, or enable if it was disabled...just a hunch..
I had troubles with google app not responding at all and whole system became extremely laggy. Disabling bixby all together fixed problem. Now phone feels smooth and responsive even battery life has improved.

I was hesitant about applying the new update for the May patch because of all the issues everybody with reporting. I've had this update applied for about 4 hours now and so far there's no issues at all. I wonder if it's affecting every device or just a few. Anyone know if the updated fix has rolled out to unlocked Canadian devices?
Ever since I got android 10 my phone gets these random jitters from time to time. Also I noticed whenever I'm in an app and I close to go back to my home screen the home screen refreshes (using nova) I don't ever recall having these issues on pie. It just seems really buggy. I never got to try the beta's since my country didn't have the program.

I have jitters and stutters within both Samsung and Gmail apps. I also get freezing when I pull down my notification shade and try to expand Gmail notifications. The latter happens about 80%of the time where as email jitter and stutters are constant. I have factory reset twice without restoring from any backups.
This did not do this in PIE.

Same here. Horrible ram management, random freezes. Samsung is definitely rushing to release the "stable" version of the android 10.
Not quite sure why people still believes doing a factory reset can fix everything.
For me scrolling in any internet browser is choppy.
Yeah so it seems they released this update too early and it's still feeling like a beta. I'll probably wait til January patch comes out and see if they fixed it
Am also experiencing the same random jitters this thread is talking about. I updated to Android 10 (BSKO) the day it became available to Greece (EUR, December 9th) on my S10+ (SM-G975F). Am holding up till January update before resetting and possibly downgrading, first versions of Android OSes suck in general anyway. Bit of advice, if your S10 is having a "lag attack" on Android 10, do not, under no circumstances open the camera. Touch input will freeze up and camera will just show a laggy feed of what's going on for about 5-7 minutes before unlagging and forcing a reboot.
