Camera settings - mods (without root) - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, is there a way to enable saturation control on this phone? or maybe shutter speed? some mod? some apk?
Also smooth-motion, is this another fake 1080p like the LG G2 60 fps option? which actually shot in 720p (upscaled) and does the digital stabilization works along with the OIS in this mode?

I'd like to add one topic to the wishlist: A FOCUS INDICATOR !
Just all digital cameras tell you if the autofocus worked - by changing the color of the reticle, by a sound - just the Note 4 does NOT tell you if it's autofocus succeeded or not.

So no one?

You can press on the screen for a bit longer and the circle/focus will lock on the subject you want to shoot.

Sure. But it still does not show if focusing was successful or not.

Erm... Am I talking Suaheli ?
OF COURSE it tries to lock the focus, but that's not the point.
There's NO indication if the focus lock was successful (picture focused, sharp) or if the focus lock failed (picture still unfocused, blurred). There's no indication by the Note 4, while other digital cameras output an audio signal, a beep, or change the color of the focus reticle (e. g. green for success, red for a focus failure) if the focus lock was successful.
Nothing of that with the Note.

So no one has any option to control shutter speed?

Camera being a system app, I don't think it's moddable (I know that's not a word) without root. You can install a different cam app though.

But often custom camera aps have terrible processing, the reason why i never install cyanogen on my phones
Maybe i will decide to root, but even with root, i don't see an option (mod or apk) to manually control the shutter speed?

Bump, what about saturation control?

Anyone knows a way how to control the saturation?

You can download Food mode, it has temperature control and produces more vivid pictures in terms of saturation.

samsung epic shutter speed

i used an iphone 4 to take some pictures and I have to say their shutter speed is quite quick. Any way to get the Epic to do the same without quality loss?
Hello,
Actually, the camera on the Epic is plenty capable of taking VERY rapid shots.... Go to the Menu while in camera mode and tap on CONTINUOUS SHOT. Then hold the shutter button down, and you'll see
. Try different aftermarket, specialty camera apps and you'll see as well.....like ACTION SNAP.
Thanks,
Matt!

Our phones already take action shots seamlessly. Maybe I'm thinking that's something else. Here's one I just took of my coworker leaving the office done on the Epic.
does anyone know what that dang add me thing is on the stock camera app?

iso controls light sensitivity. high iso = high noise, but required for dark pictures.

"Photoshop" your self into another picture.
0. turn on add me.
1. Take a picture of a field
2. take a picture of your self.
3. It outlines you, and merges you into the other picture
...it does this horribly I might add.
Anyone know how to decrease the intensity of the led? I can't take a self shot in low light without the led setting me retinas on fire.

iPhone 4S has AE/AF Lock - I wish we had too.

Even though I suggested my GF to get the iPhone 3GS and 4S, I'm not a fan of iOS or any iDevice for that matter - I just don't like the lack of flexibility without jailbreaking.
Still, Apple has been able to do it over and over again, they find some missing feature, and nail it. They just implement it perfectly.
This time it's the AE/AF Lock.
I wish SGS II had this as an option, this would prove so useful with the autofocus problems it is having. And ofc it's a great feature both for still images and video.
If anyone knows about any fixes/patches/way to get this done on android/sgsII - This is the place to share!
The exposure lock will be available to apps in ICS .. i am hoping Google implementation of ICS camera will carry it too.
Keeping my fingers crossed ... i honestly feel the camera module on SGSII deserves better camera app capabilities
Could not agree more. I was freaked when realizing that it's not possible at all on our phone. Always liked that about camera+ from the apple app store

The SGSII has AF/AE lock. What drugs are you on? To AF/AE lock both at once, just hold down the shutter button on the screen. You will hear the beep and the focus box will go green. Now the AF/AE is locked you can pan the camera around and you'll see the focus is locked and the exposure doesn't change. Now you just let go of the shutter button and the SGSII will take the photo.
If you want just AF lock, you tap on the area of the screen that you want to focus at and you'll hear the beep with the box going green. Now you can move the camera around and you'll see that the focus is locked but AE is still active and adjusting the exposure. To take a photo in this mode, you tap the shutter button. If you hold the shutter button down instead, it refocuses and goes into AF/AE lock.
I've had this feature ever since I bought my SGSII in May.

It DOES work on video mode. SGS II has had this feature since day one. Stock Video Camera app just doesn't implement it. If you're a developer, it's easy to add to your app.
Here's a video I made testing no auto-focus & no auto-exposure for the SGS II...although this is for my private video recording app, not released & probably never will be.

Some samples
Hello all.
I've had the device for around 2 weeks now, so I can't say I have mastered it.
My experience says that It is definitely not as easy as an iPhone that you just point and shoot and 9 out of 10 you will get a good photo.
This phone/sensor has great capabilities BUT you need to work on the settings.
Here are some samples from these 2 weeks I have been using it.
:cyclops:

More will be added in time.
Did you use the default camera app, or maybe some alternatives? I like ProCapture, but the focus speed and overall snappiness is better with stock camera app.
Nice pictures thou, the manual mode selection and exposure compenstaion is really visible.

What you see is a not focused picture stitched into the pano. Third party cameras like google camera sometimes doesn't focus correctly, they don't wait long enough for the focus on this phone.

I'm liking Pro Camera so far. Cheapest of the bunch, and it has plenty of controls. Developer is also very active on Reddit, answering questions & responding to feedback.

I was wondering about this too, but I can't get mine to go longer than 1/10th (I mean, it does on the scale, but there is no change in the amount of light the preview shows). Not sure if it is Camera FV-5 that is limited or it's the 6P's camera. LG's G4 Camera can do up to 1/2 and I'm missing that (along with OIS)

I've emailed the developers of Manual Camera and FV-5 to ask about this with no response yet.
When I try to use FV-5, it won't recognize my main camera. It shows the selfie camera when I'm in selfie mode, as well as the main mode. Anyone else having this issue?
Sorry to hijack.
Do any of the cameras mentioned allow pictures during video recording?

Camera Mod?

Is anyone planning to make a camera mod for this phone?
The camera app itself is great, but I really want to have access to a denoise/noise reduction setting, if possible. It bothers me how much noise reduction this phone applies, and I'd love to be able to at least disable it, if not adjust its intensity.
I honestly have no idea how I could go about making my own, since I have no experience there, so I figured I'd ask if someone with experience is thinking about making something.

I tried my usual choices: FV-5, Open, Google, but none removed the reduction.
Shoot RAW. That removes the noise reduction and everything else and then you can try to apply on your own. So far, I haven't seen any decent noise reduction apps though.

I'm not really looking for an alternative. I'm fine waiting; I'm fine if I have to live with the noise reduction. My question was just if someone is planning to make a mod.

Have tried a lot of camera apps with no success. They all have some excessive noise reduction applied. I've already tried open camera - it doesn't seem to make a great difference.
Maybe the noise reduction is applied at kernel or camera libraries level.
