NXP audio booster is responsible for best sound in G3 - G3 General

I thought why so much hype in twitterz and etc about Boom sound in HTC M8. "HTC M8 this, HTC M8 that". But wait, LG G3 too has NXP amplifier on board and it too has ear-headset not worse than HTC One M8 does
Am I right?

Sorry I thought you meant the loudspeaker.

As far as I know the NXP Class D amp is only responsible for the speaker, not for headphones. That wouldn't make sense. And the speaker sounds pretty average, it's just really loud. In my opinion, the speaker could have been a little better. But I'll only use it for ringtone and a YouTube-video from time to time, so it doesn't really matter to me.
But you're right, the G3 sounds really good for a mobile device when using headphones! It's way better than the M8 (the M8 has a built-in equalizer and sounds really awful if you're into HiFi).
Unfortunately, the G3 only sounds good if you have headphones with 30+ Ohm, other wise you will hear some whistleing. That's why I think I'll get myself a pair of Beyerdynamic DX160ie.

That's why I suspect it surely had some built-in amplifier, maybe not NXP but other maker.

It only gives proof that amp is built-in, because older LG flagships did not have amps so could only drive 16Ohm-32Ohm earphones. Above 32 and people would complain that output was too tiny

I've tried my friend's Monster Turbine Pro (which sound quite awful for that price). They didn't whistle, even though they have 21 Ohms.
But 32Ohms-headphones are pretty quite, but that's not a problem to me because I don't listen to loud music when using in-ears.

Audio quality over BT?

Hello!
I am reading more and more bad reports about the audio quality and loudness over BT, if you tried it (car specially) is it really bad and not loud enough?
The only thing I like in my One is the sound quality even on BT of my car (though it has aptx)
as far as i know, the g2 has aptx. ive used it for my bluetooth (through aux) and its the same loudness as my htc one. cant say there is a difference.
I can say coming from from an iPhone 5 to the G2 there is a little bit of audio quality difference. I wasn't sure if it was just me paying attention closer since its my first full time android phone.
The highs tones are very high and the rest of the sound is kind of neutral compared to the iPhone 5. In sound its like listening to a 128kbps song versus a 256kbps. If you listen closely enough you can hear a tiny bit of distortion/noise but I think if the equalizer was able to be adjusted that would not be noticeable.
Seems the same as my GNex. No complaints or concerns.

same for me coming from a gnex. sounds the same to me. if anything the bass seems stronger than gnex. i'm using jaybirds bluebuds x earphones though, not plugged in through aux in car.
I will try mine on the way home from work today. My Lg spectrum 2 Bluetooth audio sucked compared to my DNA, so hopefully there not the same
One of my favorite attributes of the g2 is that on my Jay bird bluetooth headphones, the sound quality blows away my ip5

Do you have a car app in the LG UI?
This is one thing I love in my HTC One,it's very practical for driving (Music,Navigation,Weather...)

How is the music quality (through earphones) on Lg G2?

I loved the sound quality of Galaxy S3 , due to wolfson DAC in it.
How does LG G2's music quality stand out against it?
I usually listen to Electro.
I'm only talking about the earphones.

TBH: I kinda hated LG before this phone. I'm no lg fanboy but I now think they make great phones.
I've not been a huge fan of LG but so far I am quite pleased with this phone.
I've listened to audio with both my SRH440's and my CX 475's. Both sound quite good. I'm impressed it's got the guts to power the SRH's.

well is not that thick . i dont think is good for electronic music since is very treble oriented ... theres a mod you can do to increase volume because the sound doesn't go loud to power certain headphones
i tested the LG G2 and the S4 and the S4 sounded better , rich sound with more bass .
The LG G2 is thin sounding:good: but with really good clarity

I'll take the clarity, because the other stuff can be fixed with an EQ. This is the first phone I've had that completely eliminates alternator whine with the phone charging and just goes to show the lengths LG went to to isolate the DAC. That plus Viper4Android equals a superior listening experience in my eyes (or ears).

I'm using the UM Merlin customs with the LG G2.
As an audiophile, I regularly compare players to see which has the best compatibility with my customs and I'm stoked to have found the G2. By far, it has the least background noise/feedback due to EM interference in a phone. Using in-ear monitors, you can hear the processor and other internal components and generally there was a bit of noise coming from my S3. With the G2, such noise is virtually eliminated. The G2 uses the wolfson 5110 DAC which really decreases the noise and increases the soundstage, balance, and clarity tremendously. I would say the audio quality on this device is comparable, if not, greater than the Cowon music players I have used in the past.
Truth be told, the only reason I chose this phone was because of the audio quality. Hearing is believing.

Nice IEMs. I've been trying to settle on a custom for a while now. Still wearing universals (SE535 at the moment). I'll probably pull the trigger in 2014. Thinking 1964s or UMs.
What's your source for Wolfson info? When I was researching, I only found reference to the Wolfson in early rumors. The later, more confirmable info I gathered pointed to a Qualcom DAC. I haven't yet seen a proper teardown with BOM.
Excellent, but...
The sound is excellent with a good set of earphones, but the bundled "improved" Quadbeats 2 are pure crap, never seen anything worse (atleast my Quadsbeats 2)
I've been wondering this too. The only headphones I have are a pair of iPhone earbuds that my wife isn't using anymore. The sound isn't bad, but the volume seems much lower on it than my S3. I was wondering if the quality of sound is dependent upon the type of headphones you're using.

So many variables here that it's cumbersome to discuss on a forum. To say that sound quality depends on headphone type is at once wholly true and woefully inadequate.

I have yet to see a stripdown as of yet, but various sources point the DAC to be the wm5110. Until there is a full strip, I doubt it would be possible to verify but it is quite likely as there is definitely a significant reduction of noise.

Audio quality of the M9

I've tried FLAC and DSD music on my UK M9. My preferred headphones are the Sony MDR1RBT but using them as wired headphones. The head amp is much better than the Note 4 and even over BT the music sounds "analogue".

You can by an external DAC for £25 which gets close to Wolfson. The Samsung head amp is not as good as the one in the M9. Don't know how Dolby compares to Wolfson. I'll need to do some extended comparison listening. But the M9 sounds better to me than the M8.
I can second that. Switched from M8 to M9 and the amp is much better with a sound much louder and more true to a real music experience (instruments sound precise, lots of great mediums and bass). You can tweak the boomsound for different types of headphones as well.

The M9 is also subjectively better than the M8 in some areas. M8 beats it slightly in Distortion and noise but the M9 sounds better, why?
Most important to me is the incredibly low stereo crosstalk, which is the lowest I've seen on a mobile phone, even lower than the Wolfson. IIRC, the Wolfson gets a respectable but not quite as good ~-85 or so.

Will a portable amp Improve the headphone quality?

Probably the most stupidest question out there but just wondering..
Since a lot of people are saying that the headphone quality is meh will a portable amp improve the quality?
crap in, crap out
amplifying a crap headphone out (if it is crap to you where you think a seperate amp should be used) will result in a crap result
if the usb has a line out, that might be of some use....does it? I'd be interested to know
An amp with its own DAC, like the Fiio E18 for example, would improve the sound quality. I've not used mine since I got my Exynos S7 though, the sound quality sounds good enough.

portable amps don't utilize the 3.5mm jack. And yes, a portable amp will improve the quality. If you have the snapdragon version, then you'd want a portable dac/amp combo.

For me, listening at my desk at work in a fairly quiet environment, the sound quality and volume levels are absolutely fine. I used to have to use my E18 with my Note 4 all the time as the sound quality was really bad, especially noticeable as I had an M8 before that, but I've not used the E18 at all since I got the S7.

Which headphones are you Using??
I'm using a Pair of UE 900 (UVP 399€ quad-driver in-ear-monitors), and i have no problems, of deficites. I used an htc one m8 before, and i dont really notice a worse soundquality.
Sure, if you really try hard enough and compare then like you want to dissect it, you might find differences.
But like i said, i have no Problems there. The Output impedance is low enough with almost 2 Ohm, soundquality, and output Power is really enough (i can not listen to 100% Volume, it's just way too loud for me).
Of course, you'll ha ve to decide that yourself, maybe you have much better in-ears / headphones, and have much higher, more audiophile standards.
(but, if you dont dissect your music, but just want to enjoy listening, it's totally fine)

How is the sound quality in the NON QUAD DAC version?

Hi guys, just want to know how is the sound quality in the NON QUAD DAC version. Is it good enough? Maybe like the HTC 10, Axon 7 or Galaxy S7 sound quality? I think it sounds pretty good.
General consensus is that it sounds just a bit worse than the V20's Quad DAC and better than Galaxy S7, close to HTC M10's quality. Most users and reviewers are impressed.

Offcorse it all depends on headphones. If you have cheap, ****ty headphones no amount of DAC can help you.

No no no. The HTC 10 has a built in DAC and a amp which really makes the music stand out compared to any other phone I have ever owned. Too bad I sold it after a year and upgraded to the g6.
The g6 is a amazing phone only let down by the audio output. If they put the quad DAC in all units then that would of made this phone godly.

As i said i think it does have DAC. It is true that the output volume is not as high as M10's BUT that also depends on headphones.
If you got a pair of good headphones it's gonna sound great and loud. The headphones that come with G6 are pretty crappy tho...
All-in-all M10 is an audiophile phone so it's probably designed for high and low quality headphones meaning even crappy headphones sound okay-ish or at least a lot better than on other "normal" phones.

I use the free vlc player and the 10 level equalizer along with my library of flac music. I run it onto my fender audio system (jetta) via Bluetooth and the sound is incredible. Deep bass, great mids and vocals. The sound with the headphone jack into the aux port isn't noticably better. I highly recommend vlc's free player, I had no idea that it would sound so good. Just play around with each equalizer level till your music sounds the way you want it to. Make sure you start with the levels flat, then go from there. I also put my music on a 128gb Samsung microsdxc card which I purchased on Amazon for only 30.99 I also highly recommend this card. Not as fast as more expensive cards but sound quality can't be beat. Model MB-MP128D. Peace..
Sound is OK it's not bad. But compared to my V10 the sound pales. Not as clean output or wide/deep sound signature.
Sent from my LG-H870 using Tapatalk
LOL. Every digital device that outputs sound has to have a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter), it just converts those 1 and 0 binary codes to electric signal. It's just the quality differs due to price. Some DACs have enough power on their own to drive small headphones, what sets "audiophile" smartphones apart is the addition of an Amp, it takes the electric signal from DAC and amplifies it to drive more power to large headphones with high impedance.
Is there any point in keeping my g5 for its b&o dac or not I have a s8 now well law has had it 6months
