[Q] Battery Drain - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Noob alert here.
I dont know whats happening with my Galaxy s4 i9505. The battery is draining very fast.
My last phone was a Xperia ZQ and with the Stamina Mode I could last a day easy (moderate use - whatsapp, facebook, youtube...). Now with moderate-heavy (whatsapp, facebook, some games) and the WI-FI turned off the whole time, i've only last the morning (about 4h, then I put in airplane mode).
Is the problem with the Kitkat? If I downgrade to 4.3, will it get better?
S4 GT- i9505
Rooted
Stock Kitkat 4.4.2
Kernel: KT - SGS4, made by Ktoonsez
Build Number: KOT49H.I9505VJUGNI2
Ty very much in advance. Sorry for the bad english, not my native language

The problem is the kernel. Try other or modify it with one tweak tool :highfive:.
* COUNCIL: Use a stock kernel if you are using stock firmware.

[Q] Defy+ over heating & battery problem - SOLVED

Hello,
I've rooted my DEFY+ to Gingerbread 2.3.6 (using threads found here) and everything is working; I had a battery drain problem so I installed NQ Android Booster together with GO Power Master and I've used Titanium Backup to freeze some unused (not system ones) app.
Now I have this overheating problem: battery discharging in 12 hours or less, high temperatures even if phone is in pocket; it restarts by itself randomly and several times I use to put it in a chilling water glass to accelerate the process.
I'm seriously thinking about a new phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 is sooo tempting) but I'd like to know if it's a phone or fw or whatever problem.
Thanks,
eth*
Stock or custom ROM?
Hello Auris,
actually I flashed to a stock rom found on the forums, it has
Basebrand version: EPU93_U_00.60.03
System version:45.0.2310.MB526.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU
Build number: 4.5.1-134_DPF-231
Root your phone and flash some custom ROM... I'd recommend Quarx's latest CM9 build (you can find a how to thread in the threads, started by me).
I've searched for the topic and found it; actually as I'm not into flashing and more, I have to understand where to find things and how to do the whole thing.
Thanks in advance for the help, much appreciated!
Then I'm on CM9 and all problems seem vanished!
Thanks Auris =)

[Q] [i9505] Official Google Edition 4.4.2 by Jamal2367 ROM Battery Life Question

Hey guys!
I have a few questions about this ROM. I just exchanged my 4s for an S4 yesterday, so I'm a noob. Welcome for me, I guess.
I followed a few tutorials and successfully rooted the device. Installed ClockWorkMod and then installed a ROM called Official Google Edition 4.4.2 by Jamal2367. Been in love with that KitKat look ever since it came out.
I did this without previously checking the battery life, since the phone is used. I was wondering if someone is using this ROM and how is their battery holding up. I'm getting some pretty bad battery performance. I was in the shower for 20 minutes, screen locked and music playing on half volume. It drained 6% out of the phone. Is it the ROM or is it the battery?
Thank you in advance and sorry if re-post.

CM11 - i9505 Boot Delay/Hangs

Hi at all! Since I had my first smartphone I always used CyanogenMod to unlock all the power of my devices and have an pure stock android experience. I use CM11 on a s3 and a few times ago on a s4. I used always nightly build because I'm curios and I like to discover bug and discuss with other to solve them (I'm not a developer, only an appasionated smartphone user).
With my s4 (i9505) I used officials nightly from jflte section of cm download site and I updated it with Cyandelta app. I used Ktoonsez kernel.
It's impossible for my s4 to boot into Cm11 after a reboot or when I PowerOn my device after a battery change (because previous battery was 1% and device shuted down), because it hang on Model Number Splash screen. I have to remove battery, Hold for 5-10 seconds power button, insert battery and powerOn. Anyone has any idea for this problem? I've tried a lot of times to change from CM to TW and From TW to CM but problem persist anyway with Kt kernel and with stock cm kernel, but with TW rom problem doesn't appear.
A little note, I'm not using original Samsung Battery. Thanks at all and sorry for my crappy english. I'm a young student.
Try removing the batterystats.bin file... Maybe its getting confused on that.
See here for details on how to remove it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699687
I've found problem. Kernel wasn't compatible with last version of CM11.
How to close post?

Note 4 N910G Indian Battery Life

Hi Guys,
In pure STOCK Rom 5.0.1 I'm getting more than 5 hrs screen on time easily and phone never get hot (Battery)
But when I root it or when I use custom ROM like DR.ketan's ROM, I'm hardly getting 3 hrs screen on time and phone is getting hot.
I tried Australian Stock Rom 5.1, same 3 hrs screen on time and heating.
Is this same for every1 or only Im facing this?
I'm forced to stay in pure stock ROM because of this. ( Missing Viper badly )
Please suggest guys

i9500 lollipop Battery Drain Kernel or ROM

I need advise for what to try next:
- should i try different ROM (official or custom)
- Or try another 5.0.1 firmware from sammobile (for different region) or it's worthless to try since all is 5.0.1 , or possibly try 6.0.1 related to different region as long as it's english.
Or i should revert back to older firmware [kitkat for example] and install a relevant ROM
My current info and results:
- Battery performance is very low; 7-10 hour with active usage (typical phone calls and browsing , screen on), Arround 15 hour idle (wifi, sync on).
- This is official 5.0.1 insalled by OTA
- The problem is an old one , which might had been caused by Lolipop upgrade.
- i've removed samsung bloatware, minimum necessary apps => same problem
- tried to check effect of [Sync: on-off], [mobile: on-off] [wifi: 0n-off] but the whole battery life time changed with arround by max 10% for each, none showed great improvement for this 10 hour lifetime battery.
- Top battery consumer is always android OS & android system & display (depending it's idle or used).
Regarding the Battery:
- i don't think it's a battery problems since it's a new battery with good reviews, the stock one is weaker, another cheaper battery gave lower number.
Current version Lollipop 5.0.1, PDA I9500XXUHOH6
I think you should try a custom rom and custom kernel
FirstFlight N7 Themed V6 + nevermore kernel is my suggestion
