Im with you im not taking any updates till I know lolliepop is released and we have root for lolliepop. Then Ill update. Im anticipating it bad. They cant get it here fast enough. Im one of the ones that are having issues with data signals. Very slow.
One thing I have noticed is that if I set phone down I get full bars and good speeds. As soon as I pick up phone it drops to the smallest bar and speeds go to 2-3mbs. Im hoping lolliepop fixes it.

This is one of the first phones that I have not had the immediate urge to root. Its been a month and I am only starting to think about root and it really only to get rid of a few things like the volume warning and the airplane mode warning (Why do they even have that).

Number of bars have little to do with accuracy of signal strength.

so were not able to flash this firmware on our phones just yet correct?

You're having issues with the phone and your solution is to not install they incremental updates that address those issues?

If you update it via Odin, yes you'll most likely lose root. But then you take two minutes out of your life and reroot it. At least that's how easy it was with the note 3

I dont know how half of the people on here make it across the street and live another day to tell about it.

No sh=t. After the update the root method we have may not work. Once we have confirmed that ROOT WORKS. Then I will take upgrade. And then take 2 minutes out of my life and reroot it.

Ive seen a many of updates that broke root. Those that took update had to wait till root was done for the update. I want to keep root.

And I dont know how all these snobs on the forums have a life. Always looking down your nose at others that may not have your experience in this hobby. Always making snobish comments to try to tear down instead of building up in this so called hobby.

[Q] Update.

Can someone please tell me how to go about updating my Xoom.
www.motorola.com/myxoom does not explain ****
i know this is probably a really stupid question, and i'm sure i'll get comments telling me to do research before posting.
but i did look for awhile, and from what i gather, a notification should have popped up on my xoom.
but one did not.
so how do i update the dang thing?
You wait, leave it connected to the internet (WiFi or 3g), it will eventually download and prompt you to install.
I just got mine, all I did was wait patiently.
sent from the honey moto
well i've been connected to wifi for about 6 hours now, and i'm always connected through verizon, but i haven't seen a single thing to do with an update.
They won't roll out the update to all devices at the same time. They have to do it in batches so they can minimise any update related problems should they occur.
So basically, my device is going to start downloading this update, without any previous consent by me, and will just prompt me to install once the update is downloaded?
Well, if it's like any other OTA update I've had it'll ask you before it starts to download. But yeah, essentially.
You will get an icon in your notification window near the clock. Click on it and it will tell you a system update is available, and give you 3 options; Just click 'Install Now' and watch it go and in 10 min (or less) you will be updated.
Sweet deal. Thanks guys... I was seriously starting to get very distraught.
I only owned an ios device before... but my girlfriend has a Captivate... so watching her be unable to get froyo for so long was starting to get me worried about my Xoom.

While yes that what I would do if it were mine (My Incredible is running CM7 RC2), she doesn't care much. Just as long as it works for her then she is happy.
Yeah, my wife's the same. Luckily she's on Froyo (Desire) so it's not really an issue. I would forcibly update it to Gingerbread if I thought she'd notice.
If your xoom isn't on verizon 3g will you get the update? Is it coming from verizon or from motorola and how do they no about my device? I set it up on wifi and never used the 3g setup nore do I have a verizon contract. Am I going to be hosed?!?

Your device periodically checks google's servers to see if there is update. Updates are released in batches so your device may not see an update until some time later. They can be downloaded off of wifi. Don't worry you're not hosed.

Funny stuff.. you gave consent when you left the check for updates boxed checked. Uncheck it problem solved you will not get the update.. since it reads as that is your preference. Others want the update you don't want the update #winner.

That happened on my Rooted/stock ROM Evo. Every now and then it pops up asking me to install an update that it just downloaded. Easy enough to simply decline, but pretty anoying though. At some point, I'll wander over to the Evo forum to see about (perhaps) pushing the new Cyanogen ROM, but im finding it hard to get excited about the phone these days...
Edit: Also, for those keeping score... My Xoom has not yet seen the update (5:17PM EST).

[Q] Am I S.O.L. or is there a way to go back to the 2.2 stock rom?

I accidentally updated to the 2.3 update from sprint, which naturally killed root and battery life of my shift, and so now I'm wondering if there is a way to ruu back to 2.2 so I can root and save some juice, or am I just S.O.L. until devs figure something else out?
This has been answered in several different threads... As of right now there is no way to return to 2.2. Until another root method is found, your pretty much stuck with what you have.

I'm in the same boat. If there isn't a solution found within a week or so, I'm going to reactivate my Palm Pre and use it until the fix is found. I NEED to have wifi tethering and the Pre was really easy to get it working on. FML

MJE Radio Problems

Hey everyone. I am stock everything, and my wife grabbed my phone and updated for me, you know, just to be nice.
Anyway, the update screwed my reception. I no longer get 4G at home, and otherwise it's pretty bad. I'm new to the device and haven't done much research yet, but I'm not new to the community. Anyone have a fix? I'm ok with rooting for a proper fix. I haven’t yet because I've been crazy busy with kids and work.
Thanks in advance

Nevermind. Only fixed it for a few minutes. Nothing but 3G again. Will flashing the MJ7 modem/radio work? Or will that break stuff?

Sorry about the thread guys and gals. I'm trying to research things in between making dinner. Eating dinner, bathing my kids, and putting them to bed.
So I found out I can flash old modems over the new build (I think that's right, right?), so I'm looking up info on how to do exactly that, but if someone wants to post instructions, that would be awesome.
Thanks again.
Alright. So I flashed the MJ7 modem, and the results are the same. Poop.
Sad that you can't get a response. I haven't noticed much of difference in MJE and MJ7

reception has improved for me from mj7, however, i'm in florida... So I dunno... All depends on area and such.
I ended up taking the update, and used to get speeds between 35-50mbps here in Detroit (there's a Cell Tower less than 500 feet from my house), but since the update, my speeds have gone as high as 70mbps and never slower than 45mbps. Granted, I tested this early in the morning....need to test it when folks are up and traffic gets congested.

Maybe there's an outage by you if your getting the same results with different modems. I haven't had any radio issues with the new update. All else fails Odin back and see how it does.

I Odin'ed back last night, and the results are the same. It held 4G for a few minutes, then went right back to 3G. So far this morning, if I leave my phone on my desk in my office, it holds a single bar of 4G. Once I go to the living room, it drops to 3G. Like I said, prior to the update, I got nearly full signal. I hope it's an issue with Verizon, and that it's temporary.

Your phone will connect to the strongest signal.....so if the 3g is stronger than the 4G it will prefer that unless you force 4g. The bars represent the voice connection and are independent of the 3g/4g which represents the data. Voice wise could be a tower outage or the new radios just suck and same with data. Try rolling back to MJ7 and see if it's the same. I know you said your new so I'd recommend doing some reading on what the db levels represent and so forth.

I did roll back to MJ7 modem with no difference, but you can't roll back the firmware or you get a soft brick. I'm just new to this device, not hacking my phones. Been doing it since my G1
I'm chalking this up to either a Verizon problem, or a change in how the software interprets the signal and displays it. Either way, I'll probably just have to wait for a new update (hopefully KitKat) or end up using SS, rooting, and flashing a custom ROM. A few days time will hopefully help, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Noticed my signal has gotten worse since the update as well. Was at our kids Christmas show last night sitting next to the wife and both on our phones, she on a Virgin Mobile Android on Sprints crap network and me on my N3 Verizon 'super phone'....and she had signal and I did not. NOT real happy bout that! Toggling airplane did nothing to help. It was gone. Hers....fine. And I'm paying twice what she is! If this keeps up, I'll have a Note 3 for sale soon.....

Installing the T-Mobile Software Update?

Hi guys, I haven't updated AT ALL. I remember reading somewhere here on XDA that someone had said, "Don't update if you're planning on rooting". But I really hate the software update popping up on me, and I'd like to have better battery from the second update T-Mobile sent out. What are your guys opinions? Will updating really affect any chances of me rooting my snapdragon S7 Edge? Since they update the 'security' of my device?
You need to update. If anything, you will only be able to unlock bootloader after an update where T-mobile allows to do so. They have previously stated they are working with Samsung on a solution. By not updating, you are only depriving yourself of much need software fixes.

Right? Either way I updated didn't take me a second to think about it because of root. Pfst if you don't want the fixes that the updates have pushed out then ok. But I'm telling you my battery life! Now I get really good 4 to 5 hours of normal use. I'm happy before the update I'd get 330 to 4 hours

It's a good update. Its 4pm and I have 68% remaining. Before the update I would have had about 38%
Usage is consistent. No real bug that I have noticed.

Definitely a great update, but I personally update regardless. And if it f**** me, so be it. I'm just saying I've seen others say more NOT to if you plan on rooting. Which I do, but I'm just a dumbass like that! LoL
Think this update made my battery worse tbh. I've been at work for 4 hours now with light usage and it's at 77%. It didn't get that low with heavier usage in same time frame pre update. Haven't installed anything before or after.
I have installed the updates and the overall performance and battery have improved a lot.
All those who buy new phone when it is first released become beta testers. Simple as that.

**** it might as well lol. I'm getting tired of seeing that stupid update notification anyway. I was just really holding back because I wanted to root my phone so I can get snappreffs and I can save dem nudes lol.
I updated after updating my boyfriend's phone. Got jealous. Going to jump soon anyways. Just need $22 more in payments. This device, as stated by many others, is dead and really has no development future. By the time bootloader is unofficially or officially unlocked there will be barely any developers with the phone still. Just enjoy the software updates. Pretty sure you need them for the latest Good Lock to work anyways, which is awesome btw no more quick connect or S search wasting space in my notification bar.

It works pretty well....its a standalone app...no major special filters...but its stable and you download everything like snapprefs so it doesn't send notification of screenshot... Because in all actuality you don't screen shots....Casper logs you out of the snapchat app...so it cannot be used simultaneously... Its a good alternative until we get root access.

Is there anything I can do to help speed the time of getting root for bootloader 5. I can do a few things with ADB, my experience is limited but with instruction I should be able to upload any neccasry information. Just let me know what where and when I will do my best
I got n950USQS5CRG9 on 9/5/2018 11am, after which my battery life SUCKS. I can use the phone and watch as percentage drops every few mins. Anyone else with this issue?

Try using the N950USQU5CRH6, you'll need to download and flash it yourself.. I'm using that and I get close to 1 hour for every 10% of battery life I'm also using package disabler pro to.
Where did you find CRH6 to download?

My Bat drained to 1% just before the update so I chalked up the poor Bat performance to me letting it drain to far. So thats kinda good news to me cause some way or another Ill fix that.
