I am personally very concerned that LG is rolling out version 5.0 to the G3 in Poland already. I also have a Nexus 5, which has already gotten the update. As probably anyone who got the 5.0 update on any device knows it is riddled with a lot of bugs. I would not say it is unusable, but there is a lot. So with there being a lot of bugs I am worried about LG pushing out Lollipop to the G3 before waiting for 5.0.1 or 5.0.2. I am worried that if LG pushes out 5.0 to the G3 it will bring those same bugs and more to the G3, which I definitely do not want. I would rather wait for 5.0.1 or 5.0.2. Even if that means waiting until later winter or early spring. I want to make sure it is done right since LG up until now has a history of not staying with updates. At least up until now.
So I am wondering what everyone else's thoughts is on this. Are any of you worried also about 5.0 being pushed to the G3 before Google has the chance to roll out bug patches for 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 or beyond? If you are then why, and if you are not then why? The way I look at it is unless LG is committed to pushing out 5.0.1 and any other patch updates for 5.0, I think it is a very bad idea for them to be pushing 5.0 out so quickly before Google irons out the glitches.
Manufacturers can't win. If they don't roll out new ROMs quickly, they're slammed for being slow. If they do, people complain about bugs. If you don't want to take the update until there's a 5.1, then don't take the update. Right now the update is officially available only in Poland, presumably so LG can do more real world testing.

I personally would never slam a manufacture for taking 2-4 months after the release to upgrade, as long as it is with the bugs ironed out. Of course 6+ months would be a different story, but I personally think 3-4 months is perfect middle ground for enough time to iron out bugs with still not being too long. Except that is beside the point, I did not want to discuss the time frame of the update in this thread, this post was not to criticize LG or any manufacture. It is mainly to discuss whether people think it is bad (in the sense of bugs/glitches) that they are rolling out 5.0 with all the bugs/glitches on the nexus? Before Google gets the chance to smooth things out.
For example when 4.4 Kitkat came out, carriers did not release 4.4 right away to skinned flagship devises. They waited until 4.4.2 so the bug fixes could be incorporated. Which seems like the logical thing to do, which LG is not doing that this time around with the G3. Of course Motorola is rolling it out really fast too, but that is different because they have a history of updating from 4.4 to 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 on their devices. They upgraded their main devices for all the patch updates for kitkat, and I am sure they will continue to do that. However with LG for example with the G2, they updated it from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2, but never to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4. So with their history of them not updating to the latest bug patch of the version, why should they roll out before the bug fixed versions? Assuming they are going to continue their history of not updating the bug patch updates. This is my main concern and wanting other people's take on it.
LG rolled lollipop officially out to Poland only at this moment in time. They won their little race ? I don't know if anybody's noticed the lack of updates for any other country? It has already been a reasonable amount of time with no sign of anything.
I think you'll find that the next lollipop kdz that is pushed by LG is a bug fixed version. ?

All roms have small bugs but I can't understand some of the comments posted about Lollipop my poland 20a is working brilliantly I cannot honestly say I have had any issues with it Calls/messaging/Camera/Internet/Gps/Music/ all work without fault no lag or very minor lag at the least. If this Poland version is like this now then future rollouts/updates can only make the phone even better! I for one am very happy.

Sad, that LG didn't know you personal opinion. But if you would read this site forum.xda-developers.com you would know that the most negative facet LG is known by is that "LG IS SOOOOOOOOO SLOW WITH UPDATES
I NEVER BUY LG AGAAAAAAAAAAIN"
Or you should go to twitter.com/LGUSAMobile fb.com/LGMobile and read the bashing LG is pressed upon. So they had no choice except to roll out most glitchy Lollipop build first in the world to revert their renome
LG should take more time to polish up the 5.0 experience. I would like to see that LG removes all of their UI elements from the vanilla android experience. I like some of the stuff that vanilla 5.0 brings, but I really don't like the LG 5.0 screenshots. I saw where LG's UGLY blue quick settings buttons are still there. The vanilla 5.0 UI looks MUCH better by comparison.
LG (and all of the others using custom UI's) should take a note from what Google did and separate all of their apps from the OS this way we can download them separately or remove them if we don't want them.

Discussion about the LG Android 5.0 update for our beloved G3.
How long do you think we will wait im guessing Jan or Feb next year!
Maby LG can surprise us,(not like bootloader unlock fiasco)
Please feel free to leave your thought
I'm not waiting anything from LG. I had LG's best phones till now, the Optimus 2x and now the G3. They make awesome and powerful devices but they are crap at software developing. I bought the G3 for its hardware specifications. Now I'm just waiting for the developers to start working on roms, kernels, etc.... They will do a grate job I know it! So be patient and wait for the developers and not LG

Ask the developers on LG.
Probably a slightly faster timeframe to the G2 getting 4.4, which was the end of March. LG do seem to have stepped up their game a bit since the G2, but we will see. My guess is also Jan/feb.
I wonder if there is a 5.0 Lollipop Launcher we can install?
Hey quick question friends!
If i have a rooted LG G3, will i need to unroot before updating to the new android OS?
Probably should note that i've removed a ton of the bloatware as well. I'm hearing that i may need to have all that back to update,
and if that's the case then i'll just return to stock and then update.
Thanks!
I tweeted LG UK and they don't seem to have any idea of a timeframe for Lollipop. That's actually a little depressing.
I'm guessing not any time soon
I think on may or jun 2015
I don't think LG's software division is very efficient, and will take time to update their stock apps to material design. HTC's software division is great & they promised and update within 90 days so I'm guessing LG would probably take around 150 days(hopefully) which means probably some time around March-April.
LOL LG is utterly horrible with updates...
So I wouldn't get my hopes up for any LolliLove any and I mean any time soon..
If I had to guess. I'd say May... LOL or better yet after the G4 is released....

IT'S OVER 9000!!
In the ballpark of May 2015... Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if G4 runs 4.4.4. LG makes GOAT phones, but there sw Dev division is horrible... It'll also be interesting to see some of the more ugly stock apps being "updated" to material design..

There is no reason that LG need to update its apps for Material design. All the new look will likely be ignored and the UI will be the same as it is now. All they have to do is make a working ROM based on 5, which is mostly about drivers and APIs, not the look.

Ofcourse there is no "need" as such, but I'm pretty sure they will be updating the apps(which like I said with LG's software div will take some time). Releasing an L update without updating its stock apps won't do good for the experience & LG's standing especially when Samsung has already almost finished updating TouchWiz to Material Design.
With Material Design hyped as a USP for Lollipop, I don't think any OEM would(ideally) just release a stock ROM without updating its stock apps.
We will most likely see CM12 for our phone before a release from LG.

I fully agree.
Android 5.0 may be available sooner than people think. It's possible that the reason LG haven't updated from 4.4.2 is because they decided to just wait for 5.0 and they will just go straight to that. Maybe. So I'm going to say late January/early February for an update.

I also think so.?
As all of us know, we're getting Lollipop next month. But I'm wondering if its going to be the 5.0 or the 5.0.2 as the Nexus does or at least having the 5.0.1
so what are you guesses?
Common sense would tell Sony to use the latest sources (5.02 or 5.03) but I have a feeling it will be based off 5.0. I don't envision Sony taking it a step further and doing what's right, I see them doing bare minimum and releasing with tons of bugs. That's just my opinion tho so I could very well be wrong.
Yeah that's what I think, they didn't do it for previous version, don't think that they'll start with this one :/
I really expect it.
Well don't set high expectations
Well at the least it will be 5.0
Not giving LP at all is just shooting them selfs in the foot because they already said Giving for all Z flagships
Hey guys are we really rushing lollipop on T-mobile. With all these US carriers talking about bugs in the latest version why would we even want it right now. 5.0 No 5.1 YES. I have a great running 5.0 rom running now but yes the battery isn't that great, yes it's gets hot, yes it takes longer to boot, yes my LTE is spotty at times, yes my WiFi isn't as strong at kit Kat. Am I alone on this one? Read the below article. The U.S. carriers isn't the only ones with the problem.

for me, I'm in no rush. unless lollipop fixes this extremely laggy phone I can care less. this phone, as powerful as the specs say it is, is a slow, laggy, bad camera POS. I'm eligible for jump on 9/25 and it cannot come soon enough. I had a Moto X before this, and I was happy with it. the Note 4 is full of disappointment. I don't see how all of the early reviews were so positive for it, the moto x had embarrassing specs but performed perfect, the camera wasn't good but I preferred it over this one, at least it opened and focused quickly.
I still wouldnt call it a "rush" though when its the slowest to market.
Most of these articles make me like tmo even more. I can wait for greatness. I think sprint use to watch xda closely because some how after every update leak that had problems and xda devs fixed them sprint would release a newer update with those problems gone lol gotta love xda

Flash Dynamic Pop or Dynamic Kat and it'll change your mind about the phone.
I have been using the unmodified port of SM-N910W8 Lollipop firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t-unmodified-port-sm-n910w8-lollipop-t3072920) for a while now and it has made my phone better. That said i rather wait for the tmo version without bugs instead of right now and render my phone unusable. Also there are many 5.0 roms already out which are infinite better than anything tmo can ever gives us .

I agree. Samsung should not push lollipop to anyphones unless google irons out all the bugs. Right now 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 is out for most. But why not wait for stable OS from google as nexus users will be the testers for us.
Also samsung needs to do lot of testing on stable OS from google because of TW skin

To be fair it's not like Apple and Microsoft put out perfect OS's right out of the box. Granted Apple is a different model but software is software, at some point the decision has to be made to release, bugs and all.

I agree with a lot of what was said here, but if you're on XDA, why not root and flash a custom ROM if you're unhappy with your phone? I've tried at least 4 ROMs for the Note 4 (and many more with the Note 3) and have found at least a couple are almost perfect and most have been far superior to stock in every way. And I'm just talking about normal performance; with root you also have the ability to add and subtract apps and features and theme your device and truly make it yours. With a custom ROM and all the options and performance root brings, we really won't need to update for years from the current OS. But if Samsung would lighten up TouchWiz, the updates would come faster.

Yea agreed, and 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 are garbage, was really hoping it was 5.1 that was taking so much time.
And aosp is on 5.1.1. The Canadian version is super smooth with zero bugs. I'd suggest using the unmodded version. The modes versions all have bugs and battery is stellar on the unmodded version

This same crap happened on the M8... people crying about not being first with the update while other carriers pushed the update before them that left a huge security flaw unfixed. T-Mobile finally released their update (4.4.3) and it included the fixes from 4.4.4 which no other carrier had done. That's a win for T-Mobile IMO... The other carriers had to play catch up. It's easy to forget that things like this take time and each carrier's quality control is much different. I personally don't get people like you who complain about things such as this when those that have received the update from their carriers are left with buggy phones... Do you want a buggy phone? Or do you want it to be flawless? http://www.techtimes.com/articles/4...es-continue-as-some-carrier-testing-fails.htm
Every carrier has reported bugs , hell i even bought my daughter an S5 a month ago and it came with lollipop and was a disaster kept freezing and restarting so much i returned it and got her one with 4.4.4 installed on it so it would act right. Id rather them take their time and give us a less buggy version . But honestly i really dont care im looking forward to the Note 5 this year
The update is incoming
Update is incoming possibly this week, it's been approved: http://www.tmonews.com/2015/04/lollipop-update-rollout-for-t-mobile-galaxy-note-4-starting-next-week/
I have been a HTC lover for almost sever years (Desire HD --> ONE X --> M7 --> M9) and I've decided to go for my next phone. Although the U11 looks like an impressive phone, I'm still a bit hesitant to go for it. Next to G6 and S8, the U11 sure looks like an ancient phone (I'm not a big fan of shinny backs and the front view of the phone looks awful in my opinion).
Not a samsung admirer hence I would like to give the G6 a try, but my only worry is how much is LG dedicated towards releasing the android updates. I didn't have troubles with HTC and I am sure Samsung will take care of this too but not I'd like to know how much is LG committed towards this. I do like the vanilla android but I don't feel like getting into the rooting business anymore (I'm too old for that and can't keep up), so I'd be heavily relying on LG OTA updates. Also I hear that LG UX has immensely improved, but would like to know if you guys think that LG will keep updating it's own UX.
Thoughts and comments are welcome, as I'd be ordering my new phone today.
Just got the G6 a few weeks ago, and as a first time LG owner I was wondering the same, I'm sure others will give more informed opinions but from what I've read LG are quite good at keeping us up to date, I've had a UX and a patch update since I got the phone which is promising.

Only been using a V20 for almost 3 weeks and from what I've read here and the V20 forum I believe LG aren't quick, or even regular, with updates.
But maybe you've left it a bit late to be asking, hope you get more replies soon.
Edit: two conflicting replies already
I am probably going to answer my own question but surprisingly LG got the first Nougat update compared to all other phones out there. Source - http://www.androidauthority.com/android-oem-update-speed-743073/
Here there are, more ore less, the major updates received by the G-Series starting from the G2:
- G2: 4.4.2, 5.0.2
- G3: 5.0, 6.0
- G4: 6.0
- G5: 7.0
LG is pretty fast to release major updates, but it isn't for security patches.

The V20 was the first phone to be released with Nougat 7 out-of-the-box.
Not a lot has happened since then.
In my experience, LG has been quick with their updates. I believe my Sprint G5 was one of the first to get the Nougat update.
LG is usually first to update to newest Android versions (except Google's own phones offcorse).
G3 was the first OEM phone to get Lollipop update, G5 was first to get Nougat,...
We may not get the 7.1 update but I'm pretty sure they'll skip it because we'll be the first ones to get Android O (minus Google's phones).
I've had this phone for almost 2 weeks now and allready got 1 UX and 2 system updates so... They're really fast.
Really does depend? My G4 is fine for updates my G5 was more miss than hit!
