My 32gb Nexus is now a 16gb Nexus after Android 5.0 - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I did a clean flash of Android 5.0 the other day, and just noticed my storage appears to have dropped down to a 16gb version. Anyone experience this issue?

me too, messed up. how did you install. I used WegFresh NRT tool. Maybe the format of the partition was wrong

I read that if you still have the lollipop stock recovery (i.e. NOT replaced by for example TWRP), that a factory reset will fix the issue. I upgrade with the factory image including a full wipe of user storage and had all 32GB right from the get go. I wonder what's causing the difference in our experiences?

[Q] Unable to factory reset Verizon Xoom with CMW and Tiamat Hammerhead

Hi.
I am trying to prepare my Xoom for the 4G upgrade, and I've backed everything up using TitaniumBackup, but am now stuck attempting a factory reset.
I can boot into CWM (3.2.0.0 (R4c)), but I can't perform the factory reset. It is unable to mount /cache. Or /system, /sdcard, /data.
Is there anything else I can do to reset this thing?
I'm running Tiamat Hammerhead.
Thanks,
John
Boot into fastboot and flash all the Motorola images from the MOTODEV website then relock the bootloader. Done.

This sounds simplistic, but make certain you flash the correct stock images for your exact device, especially if you plan to relock.

Well it is a pretty simple process, Motorola even shows you the commands to use on their website... But, yeah, use the correct images for your device.
You can get them from: http://developer.motorola.com/produ...utm_source=supportforums&utm_term=unlockboard
Requires the USB drivers to be installed and the Android SDK Platform Tools for Fastboot. But it's guaranteed factory when you're done.
One additional quick detail: If you are just trying to do a "data wipe/factory reset" you may need a MicroSD card in the slot. Mine would not wipe until I put one in. Just a little 2GB was all I used and then it wiped happily! Don't really know why it needed it, but hey. Quick, easy fix.
Thanks. Downloading the HRI66 now (MZ600 - XOOM with Wi-Fi + Verizon 3G).
39 or 66 should work for me, correct? I don't see any difference listed.
thanks,
john

Hmmm. Didn't try that. Tried without an SD card. Then flashed the latest CWM, them removed the SD card and tried the factory reset again.
Maybe I'll try putting the SD card back in and wiping before reverting to stock.

hmm. Every attempt to use fastboot reboots my computer. Running pclos.

[Q]Why the storage of my tablet shrink after updating to kitkat?

Today, a strange thing happened on my n10. I flash the OTA zip with adb sideload on the stock JWR66Y version. It worked smooth but later when I enter the system, it shows the total storage space is 13.08GB. However, I'm quite sure that my n10 is a 32GB version since I have used it for nine months. And it has 29GB storage just before updating. Does anyone else know how this happen?
PS: I tried flashing the factory image of JWR66Y back to the tablet. It didn't help.

Yes, it seems to be a bug of this version of bootloader, which fails to recognize the storage size of the tablet. The same problem happens on some Nexus 5. Just do a full wipe with the latest version of TWRP. Then it will rebuild the file system of the storage and get all space back.
Good luck!

[Q] Nexus internal memory broken?

Hi folks,
I have just flashed stock boot.img 4.4.2. and now I see that my internal storage shrunk from 28gb to 6 gb max..
So, where are my 22gb?
Edit: Help.. I just cant get it back.. In the screenshot it says: 6gb available out of 29gb.. with a full wipe and clean install!
Please, help! I have tried wugs toolkit, but flashing stock and going back to all normal doesn't work, because it always fails..

I must admit, I didnt flashed it like always, but everything looked fine because it booted..
I know this has something to do with partitions, but I dont have knowledge about that. I used a wipescript.
Cheers,

I thought I read somewhere, I could be wrong, that after a stock flash you need to do a factory reset within the device to really be a "stock" flash...

Never heard of that step?.. Can somebody confirm this is needed to get the normal internal storage?
I have a 32gb model, and at 'storage' there was always a total of 28+gb . Now I know you loose some gb due to the fact it is needed for android to run. But I cant believe my internal storage really shrunk from 28+ to 6gb.
Is it reversable?
Yea its reversible your nexus thinks its the 8 GB version try factory reset , wipe cache and wipe dalvic cache and if the all fails reflash the ROM basicly you need to get your nexus to reevaluate its storage

Sounds logical.. Thnx will try that!
See op for edit.. Please help, somebody..
OK try this one make sure you wipe everything (not the bootloader) as per the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
[GUIDE] Flashing a Factory Image with fastboot / return to stock
Programming is a race between engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
hehe, i appreciate the help!
but I manage to fix it..
I was lucky I had a really old version of Wugs toolkit on my laptop.. Happy I did not remove that one. Because going back to stock worked really good on that version.
Now I installed stock by flashing boot, system, etc one by one and it all worked out well.
finally problem solved

Running out of storage space, but totals are wrong!

I updated my Nexus 4 to LMY 48T yesterday and noticed that my storage space is all screwed up. The totals of all my storage come to about 5GB total according to all the internal storage added up. So I am somehow missing approx 8GB of storage space that is not accounted for. I downgraded to LMY 48M to see if the new update had a bug. Nothing!! Somehow my phone has burned 8GB of space. How do I get this back to what it is supposed to read.??? I tried wiping the cache partition, no good. I am fresh out of ideas.
This is a common issue you need to reflash the factory images and it will be fixed.

Not only did I reflash the same factory image 3 times I even rolled back to an earlier image. It still says I only have 1 . 2GB of storage space available, but when you total up everything you come to maybe 4 or 5 GB used and there is 8 GB missing. I used Wugs Toolkit to root and flash images. The only thing I haven't done is to do a complete factory reset.

You should really learn the art of SEARCHING. You would have spent less time looking for the answer than you did typing this post!

The art of the search set aside, are you directing me to do a factory reset, period to get my storage space back, because I am trying to avoid a total factory reset at all costs. I was using Wugs Toolkit to flash the updates using the "No Wipe" mode. Maybe it won't work without doing the complete factory reset, but as I said I was trying to get my space back without using the most drastic measures. I booted into recovery and used the cache partition wipe hoping that might work, not to mention using GOOGLE to look up about 25 methods that all said the same thing, some easy some a little more complex, but they all come back to a " Complete Factory Reset" . Anyway, unless I'm not reading your post right thanks for your thoughts.

I linked you there because that is THE option...there is no alternative. Copy your files, run a nandroid and copy it to your computer, then settle in for a factory reset.
I have to do it every single time I flash an Ubuntu or Mozilla rom, and even some factory images. I've been doing it for a LONG TIME...trust me when I tell you this: there is no alternative.
There is one good piece of news, though...when you restore that nandroid your storage will be right, as long as you follow the guide correctly
Also, factory reset from stock recovery isn't 100%....erasing every single partition and reflashing from fastboot is.

[Q] Does the 'sdcard' folder survives an hard reset?

Hi. Just got the 60P. I was wondering if I have to backup my files everytime I need to hard reset the phone. I have the 64GB version and it would be a pain. Thanks.
I'm assuming you're talking about the internal storage and that by resetting you mean restore to factory default via settings. Then yes, you'll have to back up your files to a separate location before you reset. The internal storage gets wiped when you do so. You'll also get a warning stating that stuff like photos, videos and apps etc. get wiped.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
This comes as a surprise, really. No sense to bother to test roms then. What a pain.
Well, lets clarify this. When I had my gnex with only the internal storage, and would wipe in between roms, I wouldn't loss the files and roms I had downloaded. But would lose everything else like in a normal factory reset. Not sure how or why. Hopefully someone else can chime in. I mean cause what would be the point of creating nandroid backups if they just get deleted every time you wipe and flash a new rom.
Exactly. I had a previous nexus (nexus 3 maybe) and it kept my files.
Yeah so we need some clarification. Cause I'd like to flash some roms to but not if everything just gets deleted, including my roms and backups.
Okay so figured it out. When in twrp and wiping data, just make sure internal storage is not ticked. Then all your backups, roms, and whatever else will remain.
A factory reset will not touch your SD card. If you go in advance wipe in twrp you have the option to check internal storage but it isn't checked by default. If you check this it will wipe everything but there is no need to do this to clean flash ROMs.

This. TWRP leaves /sdcard untouched when you do a Factory Reset. /sdcard is where all of your pics, video, downloaded files reside. This is stated on the TWRP screen above where you swipe to perform a Factory Reset.

Root and twrp it is then! Thanks guys!
Yes In TWRP you have Safe External SD card + Only Device Memory Reset
