So, with the recent news of a port of Sailfish to the Nexus 4, I've been thinking. Does anyone know what it would take to port this OS? Does anyone here know the system well enough to be able to describe what it would entail to port this to another Nexus device, like the Nexus 5?
To clarify, I'm not asking anyone else to port the OS (though if someone would like to, that's fine), because I'm more than happy to do the work for it. I've just never actually ported anything like a completely new OS, so I don't know what it would involve and I'd like it if someone explained or even gave a rough outline of what would need to be done.

I tried to do that a few weeks back but didn't have time to hunt down all the problems I had.

There's a rough guide in one entry. Basically you need to build CM from source, apply libhybris patches and then set up Mer on top of it. When you get Mer running it should be easy to install Sailfish packages. Libhybris is a compatibility layer for Android drivers to work on normal linux. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I had troubles with building Mer image for my device. In the video you mentioned it looks like the whole patch+Mer+ sailfish packages is this second prepared zip he flashes.

Not yet; I've been busy working with other things. Though it looks like we're in pretty good shape so far because the recent Ubuntu Touch builds have been getting doing some good work for Mer on the Nexus 5, so hopefully we can use that progress. I just haven't found the time to work on this yet, unfortunately.

I think SF is a really promising OS more so than Firefox is, tizen, and I think more polished than Ubuntu phone. I can't wait to start developing for it so I really want to port it when I get my laptop back. Nice thing is if you use Qt you can basically just write one app that will natively run on Ubuntu and SailFish

I agree completely. It's sad that it hasn't seen a bigger leap in development, but I hope that it'll pick up sooner rather than later. I was just reading earlier today about Qt, which is pretty nifty if you ask me. Hopefully I'll find some time this week to actually make progress on it.

I tweeted Jolla asking if there was now an arm image within the SDK instead of just a x86 one and they told me that there is so that will take care of one major issue.

Don't worry about the MediaTek processor hampering sources, check Google repos for code. Also sources are updated frequently.

Hello, everyone, I'm sorry if this is a stupid question however I couldn't find anything during my research and was looking for some help.
I'm looking for a way to port Android Wear 2.0 to an Android device or development board.
My end goal is to try and create a custom smartwatch like device that runs Android Wear 2.0 and use a development board or an inexpensive Android device (like Blu phones) as a prototype. I have found many development boards that run Android (like the UDOO NEO FULL) but haven't been able to get Android Wear onto it.
Does anyone know of any development boards that comes with Android wear on it or know of a way to port Android Wear to it or a Blu phone?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I recently got my hands on a s4 and would like to kindly push your attention on a awesome project I am following since a while. The project is called Maru OS and it turns your phone into a pc running Linux when attached to a monitor. In daily use it runs android aosp and since a few weeks it is build on lineageos as well (hence ports should be a lot easier). Right now there are already ports for nexus 5 and 5x, HTC 10, lg g5 ... existing.
I am sadly not a developer and lack the skills to code but I wanted to make a little shoutout and were hoping to attract someone's attention in order to port maruos for our lovely device

Hello, I own an ASUS Z300M with Android 7 installed, and as ASUS hasn't updated it officially since 2017, I don't think there are going to be any new updates to this one. So, I was thinking about downloading Oreo somewhere and installing it on the tablet myself.
I know next to nothing about the technical side of android tablets, and not only do I not know how to go about finding an oreo rom and installing it on this Z300M, I don't even know if it's possible. *Is* it possible? I know that there are homebrew OSes like Lineage, but I really enjoy using the gmail app and the google play store, and I don't know if you can use that with lineage. So, I am holding out hope that I can possibly be able to install the official oreo on the tablet.
Thus far I have installed adb and used it (with cmd) to turn a micro sd card into an internal storage (I really hate that this asus tablet only came with 16gb storage, and a lot of that is filled with bloatware). That's pretty much it as far as my prowess goes. In other words I am pretty much as big of a newbie as it gets with this sort of thing. Is any of what I am wanting possible, and even more importantly, is any of it in the grasp of a novice like myself?
I'd like to know also, if you find something !
Given that the security patch is a year old, I doubt we'll see any more updates on Asus tablets. There's not a large enough user base to warrant development of an update.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I am a long-time fan of the now-dead WebOS, (formerly PalmOS). Back in 2011-2013, I probably had 6 or 7 different WebOS phones, and found the hardware and the software to be superior in user experience than any others. The problem was that that was the big explosion era for Android and IOS, so WebOS got pretty overshadowed, and HP, (the new owners at the time), decided to axe any further development, and ended up selling the OS to LG, who has developed it further for TVs and stuff, (I don't have all of the technical details straight, but that's a superficial summary). Anyway, recently, out of nostalgia, I pulled out an old Veer, and bought a new Pre 2, and went back into the WebOS forums realm to get a fix of my old favorite, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the work of the community to keep WebOS alive. There is an archive of hundreds of app files available on ftp, (all abandonware available for free - even the paid apps from HP catalog), ongoing development of apps and patches to keep WebOS working with all of the changes in technology, (including updates to Preware - the unofficial dev app catalog, started way back then), and LuneOS, an open developers version of WebOS, which can be built for modern phones, and which was just updated - https://pivotce.com
I think the XC is a perfect candidate for LuneOS, being small, currently affordable, (one upside to the short lifespan of official support), and having pretty good specs. Plus, there's already plenty of foundational development needed for supporting porting, (Lineage, AOSP, and even a partly-working Halium - https://github.com/Halium/projectmanagement/issues/103). For anyone familiar with building/porting, the work needed to be done to build LuneOS for XC is minimal.
My problem(s): I am not familiar with building/porting. I am happy to test and learn, but I also currently don't have any regular access to a Linux computer, and even if I did, it would take me a looonng time to figure out from scratch what someone else could probably do in no time, since all of the elements are in place, (I checked with WebOS devs, and they said with what's available, building for XC is '... mostly a matter of configuration').
So, anybody out there with an XC want to do a build for us?

Sorry, I'm not even remotely close to having the capabilities to pull a stunt like this, I think I'm currently in the same boat as you (minus the linux part)
Having said that, here's hoping someone more knowledgeable jumps in and picks up this interesting project. I'm willing and able to test and provide feedback as well of course.
