WOW! a dell streak 5! aka my first android device... those were the days. I miss em.
Well, not really. 1.6 was pitiful on the streak, and i couldn't even play the original angry birds without some serious lag. That is, until the 2.1 update finally came out eons later...
Can't wait to get my Nexus 6.
LOL that Dell Streak brings back memories. I had one when everyone thought huge phones were an oddity. I lost mine for a couple of days and found it in my backyard in the mud after a couple inches of snow melted. The only thing it had on it was a silicone jacket. I pulled the battery and dried it out in uncooked rice for a couple of days then booted it up and it ran fine up to the day I sold it about a year later. Water damage indicators weren't even tripped. Crazy, you can't make this stuff up. Absolutely true.
man, the Streak was such a mess, it taught me so much about android, and patience..... this was my third one, and as you can see, the glass cracked on this one too...... it was fun, and the xda forums were crazy........ what I thought was crazy, was seriously when I put the streak over the Nexus 6 I couldn't take a pic that showed a difference, they are soooo close, but the streak was just a 5 " screen...... but everyone thought it was crazy
wow. Dell Streak 5. my first android phone too!

yep, I moved from an Iphone 3 to the Dell Streak, and Dev was a mess, but it was fun, and Dell was really good about "warranty" cause this was my 4th one, 2 I bricked, and the other the glass broke, I would just call dell and they would send another and not ever ask me to send the old one back......
Funny, I thought that Dell was so huge back then!
reminds me of this article from way back then...
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/07/29/5.inch.dell.streak/
So big, in fact, that some won't fit in jeans pockets anymore.
The Dell Streak, which is set to be released in the U.S. later this summer, is the biggest of the big-daddy phones so far, with a 5-inch screen. The screen of the iPhone 4, by comparison, measures only 3.5 inches diagonally.
When held up to a person's ear, the Dell phone looks like a book.
The Streak's mondo screen has become the focus of much debate on the internet, with tech bloggers arguing about what kinds of pants you'd have to wear to carry it around in your pocket; how big your hands have to be to hold it; whether or not people will stare at you when you're using it; and, perhaps most significantly, what exactly constitutes a phone these days.

So I just got bored tonight and decided to see what the internals of the hero were like. idk if you have ever seen an iphone inside or an ipod touch but they have everything super compact in there... well the hero (htc) really failed at that. there is about 1/5th of an inch of empty space only filled by the battery and camera. as well as a couple antenna's. I'm a little bummed that they didn't use the space that well, seems half-assed.
Did you notice how the power and talk keys are secured in? There is a little plastic rod that was melted down which goes through a loop molded as a part of those buttons, making it almost impossible to remove them. Completely insane. The rest of the phone is surprisingly simple to disassemble.
yeah it took about 5 minutes to get every part separated.. I also cleaned my trackball (took it out) and that required some crafty fingers. and yes I did see that, im kinda glad it was that simple

If you have to remove the digitizer for any reason be VERY careful. The ribbon cable is easy to crack and the digitizer itself is very fragile. It takes about 10 minutes of careful prying at the edges to loosen the glue enough that you can pull it out.
Personally, I'm very happy with the simplicity of this phone's design. It makes repairs much easier! I agree that HTC could have used the space a bit more efficiently and slimmed the phone down a little though.
Any chance you can post some pictures..
I am not brave enough to open mine. But always interested to see the insides if somebody would be willing to post.
seen a few iphone tear-downs
I usually take pics w/ the phone... but I'll see what I can do.
when i said half assed, I just meant their space management thats all
Perhaps that space could be used to house a full size SD card and give our phones 32GB at a reasonable price.

ive never seen plastic shatter like that. lol. not as dramatic.
Hopefully you had insurance.

Yeah it sucks. I have insurance, but i'm guessing because the phone is so new, I made a claim but I have to fax them information and do all this extra stuff. I never had to do this when I made a claim with the TP2.
Ouch, I'm known to do that sometimes leave me phone on my lap and get up out the car. Luckily I normally have some full body protection and a screen guard on my phone.
Looks like it still works though.
yeah I have a screen protector coming, will get here today (a bit too late lol). I am looking for a case, im picky when it comes to those. Not much out right now other than a limited ebay picking and the one from verizon. Which I just now found out they make in a clear color, looks like I will have one for my replacement...
I have the body glove and zagg screen, and as sad as this is to say I have actually drooped mine twice and you can't even tell. It still looks fresh outta the box. Good luck with the replacement to from what I've heard VZW is still sold out.

sorry to say, but i dont think ur the first casualty.
also insurance ftw.
I bought the silicone cover from Verizon, I have not dropped my phone yet hopefully it protects the phone if I drop it.
Hopefully Otterbox will make one for this phone like the one for the iphone.
dropped my x10 and nothing happened. wouldn't wanna try it with my incredible now

Has anyone read on this new 5 in screen phone thats about to drop. Specs sound pretty good. I might make the jump if it comes to the states. Here's the engadget link.

Let's see if Dell will surprise us all with similar spec on the new streak .. LOL
Two words: Battery Life
The deal-maker for me will be battery life. Some guy on the ATT forums says he's getting about 5-6 hours of battery life from his Samsung Infuse and that's a deal-breaker for me. Hopefully the Pantech engineers will surprise us with something that can last the day w/o plugging it in....
Hopefully it'll be available outside of Korea, as well, otherwise a lot of us are gonna have to get down there somehow. And with unsubsidized pricing it'll probably cost a pretty little penny.
Yea man sweet looking phone be good to have that on the north american side of the pond, be better if dell beat those specs though a qhd screen quad core 1.2ghz 16g internal with 32g expansion betterusic player with a bloody good equalizer an 5.1 dolby etc, then again asus has a thing going on, no specs or good pics of it just snap shoots of ramdom parts of the device with a slogan breaking the rules pad or phone be anonnced at the end of the month if it beats the streak im moving on to the dark side

periods are for girls (pun!), any true man doesnt use them.
On Topic, I'm really hoping the asus thing is a 5" phone and not an atrix-like device like some are speculating. I really like asus' products and a 5" phone from them would be perfection.
will this have US compatible bands? or we will have to wait for US version.

Watching this video has put my mind at ease
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErXqnQKs-tA&feature=player_detailpage
I guess you need to check you link format
link edited, how do I post it directly here.
Wow!
Wow! That is amazing...
Now I can relax when i open the back cover and see it creaking and bending!
Thanks for the video, I changed phone providers (with many problems ) so feel much better since I change SIMS twice a day until my provider port over my old number.
Well, I'll show no mercy while removing the back cover from now on. That would not refrain me to buy a gel case though.
Edit: thanks for the vid
That's unbelievable
... and some people call this cheap plastic . Sure, everybody will want the back covered with some magical glass
This looks unreal!!
Just WOW! Really nice
What logo(carrier) is that @ the top? My back case only has the Samsung logo on it.
is old video and all battery cover are flexible lol
Didn't surprise me at all. It's flimsy because it's thin, but that doesn't mean it's weak or will break easily. I've always loved the thin back-cover

I've never really quite thought the accusation of bad build quality was ever warranted on the Galaxy S phones. Who the hell wants to carry a brick anyway!
I personally think the build quality on the S2 is noticeably better than its predecessor too. I can't quite understand some comments I've seen from some folks ruling out the SGS2 as they'll say stuff like "it wouldn't last 24 months etc". Load of balls if you ask me...

please show me
ive owned over 10 phones and if i ever did that it would break
I also feel the build quality is excellent.I never have any problem turning heads whenever I take the phone out of my pocket in public. Its a sure shot attention grabber if thats the kind to thing you need to get a ego boost.
Today I went back to using my old mobile Nokia N86 (while S2 was charging), and I was surprised by how ancient that phone feels now, just after using S2 for 7 days.
The best phone I have had till date, now that I have seen this video, I know its durable too...........

Not sure if the K or L model have the same back cover, or if it's a carrier-specific thing though.
EDIT: Looks like the SHW-M250L (for LG U+) has a different logo. A different camera layout too.
Woot plastic ftw! Though for the price we paid it shoulda been titanium, just sayin

Yes, it is unfortunate, but a lot of the manufacturers are using chromed plastic now a days. This is the second one I have seen with an issue of having the chrome come off. Not really too bad considering the number sold, but I know, bad if it happens to you. Get a replacement and happy Thriving.
I saw a post on Toshiba's site where a guy had bought two Toshiba-branded screen protectors for his Thrive. Well he went to remove one and it left the entire screen covered in a sticky, adhesive mess. Seems they can't even get those right either, let alone the dysfunctional device it's supposed to be protecting.
I can't divorce this company fast enough.

Do you actually own a Thrive? All I see you doing is flaming the unit and Toshiba. Im not defending them if they wronged you more power to you... but I feel skeptical. Im just sayin...
