Now that the masses are receiving their devices and it officially launched at Tmo stores nationwide (well most) how about some battery life experiences?
We all know all too well how battery life can vary and there is NO real way to measure except to give our individual results. Please keep in mind that trying to compare your battery life to another is futile
KISS keep it simple. Give approximates, don't be anal like me (or be specific it's okay)!
Just name your provider and if root/unlock, # of apps installed, WiFi vs Cellular percentage, average cell strength, SOT (screen on time) and whether or not using adaptive brightness and at what %, your typical usage (how you used your phone including GPS usage, talk time, and streaming), and a couple of screenies showing what ya got.
I'll start it off with my first day with the phone. I charged it to 92% and have had it off since ~11:30AM today.
T-Mobile stock no root no unlock
55 apps
WiFi 80% Cellular 20%
105dBm average
SOT is 2hr 55min with 50% battery left. Adaptive brightness ON always @ 50%
Ambient OFF
Syncing all Google apps, I use GNow, 2 push email, and weather every hour. I text and browse web throughout the day and talked on phone ~20min. GPS on battery save
For my first cycle I'm very pleased!
That's about the same as my moto x, so average?
Here's my moto x (2013) battery usage.
Auto brightness, 2-3 bars most of the day on Sprint's network. YouTube, monument valley, reddit, browser, gmail, twitter, bluetooth, locations, google now, and other apps.
On target for 6 hours SOT. It probably wont make it to 6 but 5+ is my bare minimum so it looks like you will make it without any issues. After the kernels and tweaks come I believe we can hit 7 hours or close to it.

I don't know, it's my first cycle & day with the phone (in the OP ^).
Throughout my many years with Android this will increase quite a bit after a few charge/discharge cycles.
It is a large MotoX after all

That would be great, plus google can always release more patches.
I'm on pace to hit about 4 hours of SOT. Using WiFi only right now as my local LTE signal is worse on the nexus vs my 6+, which us shocking BC I remember motorola having great radios back when I was an avid android user. I do love both platforms so no bias here at all lol. Love this nexus and where android stands with lollipop. Probably going to stick with my 6+ as my primary for now. I really wish we could see SOT for the 6+ BC it is an absolute BEAST in that area. I can't run the dang thing down unless I try and even then it is exhausting. For you recent android users, what is the typical SOT these days for the phones with such big batteries and high res screens? Is it really the screen that kills the batteries so quickly in comparison to the lower res screen on the iPhone phablet?
My first full charge since I got the phone early this morning and I'm at 2 hours sot at 70%. Brightness is at about 90% with adaptive on. Watched a few utube bids and browsed around all on 4g
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
When people are posting SOT I would like to also know whether adaptive brightness is being used or not. I'll gladly post some screenshots in the coming days once my battery gets a few cycles on it.

Great point I'll add that thanks :good:
Mine is activated on verizon and i feel like im having excessive battery drain.
My first full discharge had over 3 hours of screen on time and went from early afternoon to the next morning. How are people getting 6 hours?
Today i charged it up when i returned home from work. Only a few hours on the battery and only 48 minutes of screen time so far on this discharge and I'm at 70% as of writing this post through the phone. Adaptive brightness is off and the brightness has been set low (1/4th brightness or less depending on light, with screenfilter on to make it dimmer than normal when needed). Also, data is off and only wifi is on for data. Ok google detection is on though and i noticed recently that its not taking my commands with the screen off even though its set to.
Finally, the thing gets very hot when using it, especially when charging.
Edit: picture of the battery stats the morning after I made this post. It's nice that the battery practically flat lines at night when I also turn off cell data and WiFi. However, something is waking my phone and I don't know what it is, maybe its auto sync. I can't seem to figure out how to turn off auto sync with android 5.0 so I can test that.
I think it is better also to specify how much percentage of the adaptive brightness.
Because you can set it to 100% or lower, like 30%.
That would affect the battery, no?

Yes I believe it would, thanks!
On my third discharge with WiFi only and brightness maybe 1/4 inch turned up from all the way down. Ambient display on. Not sure my battery life is up to par.
If I need to an anymore info just let me know. Haven't been on Android in a minute.

Auto mainly but i adjust sometimes upwards, as ICS auto brightness can be a bit too dark for me sometimes.
I turn wifi, gps off when im not using it, NFC is off if that makes a difference. 3g is on always. Nothing special, I just "use it" as I normally would.

No idea feel free to ask me specific questions!
what apps have you used in this 2+ day period?? games? streaming video? web-browsing? These are the most common uses and they are also the biggest battery killers. I'm sure if I had my phone in airplane mode & barely used it at all I could get better battery life than that. Please give us more details on the specific apps, etc. you ran in this period (to the best of your memory, of course )

Hmm probably only an hours worth of "apparatus" - game, good couple of hours on google reader, facebook etc. no more than an hour on the phone.
my "normal" usage really; not trying to be overly conservative, but also not constantly on. certainly nothing to suggest that I'm getting any worse battery life than I did on 2.3.x
Next time you get this kind of usage from a full charge down to zero let us know your screen on time please.

Here's mine. A day and half. Similar battery performance with GB even though that Android OS is way too high (higher than Screen)
Yes; that Android OS' looks like a statistic and therefore has a 87.8% chance of being made up on the spot (like that one!).
This is a sample of my battery life and quite unusual for me; Mobile Standby is the highest because I spent five or so hours in an area with very poor coverage, when it could get a signal it was 2G.
Wifi is on when I know I have a hotspot I can use. AutoSync off unless I need it. Bluetooth wasn't used. Screen brightness mostly at the minimum with some time at Auto. Latitude constantly running in automatic update.
Screen on time was 2 hours, 30 minutes and that included approximately 20 minutes of Google Maps (not Navigation).
The biggest difference I've made on my device is to log out of Google+. My use is mostly checking two Gmail accounts, browsing the web, using DropBox / Documents-to-Go, texting, some photography.
Disabling Latitude's AutoUpdate stops the device from waking up with the screen off (all those little blue ticks on the use bar) and makes a big difference to battery life when I'm on the move.
How can you guys take screenshot on stock?
Hold down power and vol. down simultaneously for a second or two for a screenshot.
Also, nice battery life. I've been running about a day with ~50% left, 2 hours of screen time and somewhere around 30 - 45mins gaming. WiFi on all day and calls/texting was minimal.
Have a look https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT More insight regarding Android OS from google engineer.

What's your screen on time during the ten hours?
I've had it for around a week now but I've yet to get over 6hrs battery life. I keep the display on the dimmest setting, have no bluetooth or anything on apart from wifi. I keep location services and Google Now off and I use it mainly for Internet browsing, you tube and a couple of bejewelled type games for around 10 mins a day. I haven't watched any films on it or played any real heavy duty cpu smashing games at all.
No matter what I do, I just don't get any more than 6hrs before I get the 15% battery warning.
I don't appear to have any wake locks, the battery graph shows that when the display is off, the tablet never seems to be awake.
I installed Better Battery Stats but I don't really understand what to look for.
Can anyone suggest anything before I give Google a call and they tell me factory reset and try again?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mind posting a picture of your betterbattery with:
-Partial wake locks since boot
-Other since boot
If you use it like you explained you should be getting more than 6 hours.
I'm using a custom rom and kernel so that might explain why I can idle for an entire day and only lose around 6-8% depending on how many emails I get.
Typically I get around 8 hours of use which includes watching movies over stream, YouTube, flip board, email, xda surfing, and a few other things.

Charge your device to 100% and use your device the way you typically have been. Once you get down to red numbers, post a screen shot of the regular Android system battery usage. That might give a better picture of what's going on.
You can also charge to 100% and disconnect from the charger and let your device idle. Better battery stats is a better tool to use when you aren't using your tablet, and you are experiencing battery drain.
Also, you didn't mention whether you are stock, rooted, or rooted and ROM'ed. Please do that and we can go from there.

You said 6 hours battery life in OP, implying you were getting that battery life for the device... ._.
Congrats. You have a normal device... People may be using screen filter to get those results, but why not just enjoy the screen instead of gimping it for an extra hour or two of dimly viewed screen...It's not too tough to charge it overnight.

And if its really that big an issue, go get KTManta, Franco, or any kernel that lets you reduce the maximum clock from 1.7 to 1.3 or 1.2 GHz. I have benchmarks for the Manta at frequencies ranging from 1.2 to 2.1GHz and there's not a big difference in performance.
I got my 64gb 6P yesterday and since then have only been getting 3.5 Hours of SOT with very light usage, VERY light... My brightness is 20% all location and Google Now services are off too. Why am I getting such poor battery life compared to others? Any solutions? Thanks.

Try installing the factory image of 6.0.1 from Google. The instructions are on the same place as the images. I had issues on my device by updating and fixed it by Flashing the factory image.

Yes it will wipe the device. You could first try and just clearing cache from recovery and see if it gets better. It's usually a good idea to do that anyways after an update. But yeah updates can cause issues since it is patching rather than a complete clean install.

What do you mean by VERY light? If you use the phone in a manner where you constantly check notifications (screen on and off) and in short bursts, I would think 3.5 hours isn't too bad for a single charge. I get about that SOT with:
- Stock ROM and kernel
- 3 exchange emails on push notifications w/Nine
- Wifi/bluetooth scanning off but both radios on at all times
- Google Now on, battery saving mode for location
- About 30-45 minutes of YT videos per day
- On Wifi nearly 80% of the day
- Check twitter feeds and light texting
- Few phone calls
- Off charger around 6AM and will get home around 6-7PM with ~50% remaining
I can probably push the SOT to 4 to 4.5 if I have longer sessions in watching videos or reading.

Yes, I am on and off a lot, I turn it on for 5 mins and to check facebook or text or whatever. I do that a lot throughout the day. When I watch YT videos it lasts for hours longer. Check the MANY threads about battery life in the forums and common theme you'll see is that SOT is like gas mileage. Longer the trip and more consistent the speed, you'll get more efficiency out of the car.
There are folks reporting 5-6 hours+ and I don't doubt that they do, but most folks just say "I get AWESOME SOT!!!!!" without really describing their setups and usage pattern in detail. Based on the phones I've had previously (N5, S2, HTC M7, S4), and my usage pattern, this is the first phone I have not had to worry about charging mid-day which is all that matters to me. So long story short, don't worry about getting X hours of SOT, but rather compare how the battery does based on your usage patterns against the phones you have had previously (also don't read the battery threads if you get influenced too easily because it can make it seem like you have a defective unit).

Yep, I'm usually good with one full recharge a day.
I took it off charge at 5:30 am and left it on my desk until 6:50 when I checked it. It dropped 5% in that time. The battery graph suggests that there are wakelocks? HELP?!

Intent of this thread:
This thread is created with the intent to expound on everyone's various Nexus 6 Kernel Settings, System Settings, Apps used, and what you are doing to get the most SOT (Screen On Time). Let's try to keep the thread as clean as possible and organized. The Best 5 SOT will be copied to a reserved space below and replaced with any SOT that beats it. Your best settings must not compromise performance beyond what is needed by the average user. Screenshots are highly encouraged when posted with final SOT prior to being put into slots of recognition.
Prerequisites to participate in thread:
You must be using the Motorola Nexus 6
Posting
When Posting try to always maintain your list of your current settings for others to see, always make sure you mention what kernel you're using, what rom you are using, and try to keep things in a clean list as shown in this example below:
Rom: Chroma
Kernel: Stock
SOT: 5h 20m
CPU
CPU MAX: 1958 MHz *
CPU MIN: 300 MHz *
CPU Gov: Interactive
CPU Boost: 0ms
Sync Threshold: Disabled
Input Interval: 0ms
Input Boost Frequency: 883MHz *
Wi-Fi
Keep Wi-Fi on During Sleep: Always
This allows users to easily compare their settings to yours. Also if you wouldn't mind sharing what apps were listed in your top list of battery consumption that could also be beneficial for users looking to maximize SOT and overall battery life. SOT can vary on the habits of the user, so it's important to know what habits and apps are being ran to contribute to your overall SOT.
Example of app listing:
Consumption
Screen: 57%
Android System: 6%
Cell Standby: 5%
Automagic Premium: 5%
This will allow users to compare their app usage to other users and try to pin-point what takes up the most battery usage.
OUR GOALS
Maximize SOT
Maximize Overall Battery Life
Keep thread as clean and organized as possible.
Keep and maintain lists of our settings
Minimal amounts of comments to make things easy to navigate.
Keep things on topic.

i guess my 7.5 hour sot doesnt count as its not posted here? anyways, with real use and not just getting the highest sot thats possible kind of use, every single persons phone will differ. why? because every single person uses their phone differently. different apps, different processes, camera, flashlight, how bright i have my screen, among many other things. so, having any kind of sot just shows that you actually use the phone. and with my experience here on xda, im going to flat out say that this will be a foolish thread. and again, that said.. have fun
gsam says I have 4 hours and 45 minutes AVERAGE screen on time per complete charge since February. That is higher than I would have guessed from occasionally looking at my battery stats (I would have said 3.5 hours average). Maybe there are some subtleties in how that number is calculated.
Stock with franco kernel. 50% auto brightness. Dark themes everywhere with layers etc (although I've only had those dark themes over the last month)
Isn't screen brightness the key factor here?
Personally I gave up since I have such weak signal at my house. I usually get around 2 to 3 hours SOT but that's with around 80% brightness. Even if I lowered it, the radio would be top consumer.
A phone screen uses some battery but not a ton. Just look at some of the smartwatches out there that can get their screens left on for 8 hours or so on 300 mah batteries. Our screen on time is terrible because android is a totally inconsistent mess. That's why one day with similar usage the phone lasts forever and the next it's dead really fast.
Although iOS has it's flaws, it's greatest strengths are in consistency and resource management. That's why apple can make phones with batteries under 2000 mah, with 2gb of ram, and still be less laggy than android and have batter battery life. It's to bad Google won't just stop with their constant useless updates to the android os and spend a year focusing in only increasing efficiency of the os.

the screen uses the most battery, period.
and your greatest problem isnt android, but how you set up and use your phone. as i have no issue with screen on time(get between 5-7h, 5h without any effort). nor do i have issues with lagginess, ever!
Im with Simms. I average 5-7 hours of sot also. I just use it and don't cripple the cpu. Killing cores & turning town frequencies only makes it work harder thus for using more battery. Its like a smart car , pathetic little engine only average 36 while your fully loaded Buick lesabre averages 33. Better power to weight ratio working the engine less. I turn CPU boost frequency up to 1728 and run it at 900-1000ms. Run CPU boost at 250ms with all 4 cores on always. Also turn go high speed load to 50% from 85%. Always running in beastmode. Cool & fast.
If people are soo worried about SOT to the tune of 5+ hours. Well really you need to get a life.

i see at least 5h sot, thats why i do not worry at all about my n6 battery life. BUT.. there are many n6 owners/users that see less than 3.5h sot, which to me could indicate issues, with the phone OR the user(or just a terrible signal). anyways, i say let them have their fun experimenting and trying different things

Im lucky to get 2 hours of SOT. Hell I can kill the battery in less then that from full. I know the cause of the issue (which cant be fixed) but that is enough SOT for me. If I spent more then that with my nose in the phone my friends would toss my phone in the ocean lol

Yeah. Signal here is weak at best so the radio kills my battery no matter the device. Heck you lose all signal once you leave town

You know, some people (Americans, just like you) get over 4 hours of SOT and claim to have not so stellar signal.
I think your signal is only part of the problem. I mean look, I can't get more than 4 hours of SOT, and I generally have 95%+ signal.
Speaking of problems... I can't get more than 3.5-4 hours (best case scenario) of SOT, regardless if I'm on Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, have low signal, have full signal etc.)... If you could help me see what's wrong with my phone, you're more than welcome to join this thread.
Thank you in advance

You didn't seem to be using your phone much. I mean... there's no app showing up in top 5 battery consumers.
Also, what theme is that?
And... "Mobile standby" is actually called "Cell standby" on my device.

Well majority of the time I was reading in Kindle app. Otherwise I won't go beyond 4 hours SOT on an average. It's Android N that m running, no custom theme.

Oh, that's why the Battery usage screen looks different. Okay.

I already know it's my signal. Have been testing it for almost a year to find the issues. Being in America is a relative term. Where I live signal is not the best and when I leave town you lose signal all together for hundreds of miles.
Mine has been getting worse and worse as time goes by. No matter the ROM or kernel or brightness or signal. The note 7 better be a real nice phone cuz I can't make it to the next Nexus.
Pure Nexus
Stock kernel
No CPU or GPU mods
WiFi on always. Mobile data off while on WiFi

So I got my GS8 yesterday and this is the battery life I get with:
AOD off
No battery saving profile
Wifi on all the time
4G network but no data
Automatic brightness
No gaming, about an hour of video playback
Since I can't share outside links I'll just write the info here: (From 100% to 3%)
Last charged: 10h ago
Screen on time: 4 hours and 30 minutes (812mAh)
Android System: CPU total: 3 hours and 11 minutes (312mAh)
This is not even close to what I expected, do you think this is normal?
Normal. It's happened with both my S8 and my G6. Your battery life will get better in 3-5 days. Android is setting stuff up and optimizing battery life behind the scenes.
You bought it yesterday. Give it time to settle.
Also, turn off automatic Samsung cloud backup, it's on by default.

How much better are we talking about? Like what would be my screen-on time on average?

I am 45% with 4 hours SOT. But I have days like yours with 4 hours SOT at end of day... It depends on how you use it.
Also depends if you debloat it or not (no root required)

What did you expect from a 3000mah battery? It all depends how you use the phone, i can empty the battery in an hour if I want.
4.5h is more than respectable, if you want more lower the brightness and use a black theme.

I expected the sot other users (like people from this forum) get. This battery life I got is bkarely better than that of my 3-year-old Xperia Z1!
-----------------------------------
Another question guys. Is a 6% drain over 7 hours of being idle normal? Wifi on and AOD off.

It pretty much. Also depend on how many apps you installed. If you dont want it run much, add it to smart manager sleep list. My idle about 3hrs/1% man. This is my battery current round and apps list. About 10% wasted battery because I did clear davikcache a few times
This should be normal. with AOD on, my phone takes about 2% per hour, but when browsing webpages, every 1.5 hours costs about 10% of power, watching videos should take more. also, the 1080p and 2k resolution have notable differences. so it seems that the white-background screen cuts down most of battery life, i think.

For an hour of browsing, mine decreases by 15-20 percent! (On wifi and auto brightness)

hmm, i turned my phone as power-saving as possible - brightness is less than half of the bar, suspended all background apps, and FHD resolution. also, after some days of usage, the system should be able to auto balance the power consumption by sleeping some unused apps and some Samsung's system services maybe. so i don't think this is an issue.

Dont believe every sot someone posts here, i've seen a few 8 or 9 hour sot's but i'll bet the brightness was as dim as can be and they used a black theme. Or they were probably reading a book on the phone which uses no cpu at all or using the battery saving feature.
Your z1 also had a 3000mah battery, yet it had a smaller/dimmer screen, lower resolution, less ram, much slower cpu/gpu. How can you be complaining?

yeah, you're right, the AMOLED screen with high brightness and white color is the real battery killer. also BTW, does the 'sot' mean 'screen-on time'? sorry for my bad English...
Yup screen on time
4.5h is more than enough ! I am coming from a S6E+ it used to give me 2h SOT MAX ! Hated my life with it.
Do you plat Pokemon Go? I find a lot of people I see complaining about battery do, that game is very poorly optimized for battery consumption.
