Yeah! Not going to be a test mule @Mudavo especially since there have been so many issues with the Nexus 4 variant of this root method. Rather wait for a permissive build.
Auto root seems to have worked for me. However, I didn't see the red android but the script text was there. After install, my device rebooted three times ... which was weird.

I would be freaking out over the possibility of bricking it so soon
First verification of working, with three reboots, hopefully that's normal.

So we have to fastboot flash zip "filename".zip ?
I get this error:

Did you unzip the autoroot files to a folder on your desktop, put your Nexus 6 in bootloader and run the extracted bat file?
Excellent the day is complete root and twrp
Seems to work just fine.
Mine also rooted fine after the reboots. I did not see the red sign either. It is a good day.
Will try when I get home. Anybody tried tethering dun?
I'm curious what rooting at the moment gains us. A few apps? Xposed doesn't work(yet). But for The moment I don't really have a huge urge to root. I will however unlock immediately. In case I'd like to root.
Besides titanium, what apps can we use?
No red logo either.
Had to run the bat 2 times, but looks good, root confirmed.

I'm curious if anyone who installed the OTA update has successfully rooted their device.
I was on a fully stock unrooted phone when I applied the 4.5.91 OTA update yesterday, wondering if anyone else is in the same scenario and has rooted their device after the new update
Yes, it was fairly simple using the preinstall method in the development thread
Link is in my signature as many people don't know what the "pre-install" method is/was.
I updated using Ken's safe images and used the preinstall method. Worked like a charm. Here you go:

How do you clear superuser app data? Do you mean within the superuser app itself in settings that says clear logs?
I just rooted my Atrix with the preinstall method also. I updated to GB OTA from stock Froyo 2.2.2.

Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> scroll to Superuser >> Clear App Data button
Without doing this I was getting tons of FCs from the Superuser app and had to root again. I read about this fix on the EVO 4G forum.
Also, the Superuser apk included in the preinstall image is not current - after you install go to the Market and you'll find there's a new version. Once it installs run SU and it'll say there's an updated su binary available. Click ok, yes, whatever, give the app root permission, and you'll be updated and rooted.

Do you lose data/settings if you use the briefmobile method? (e.g. the old gingerbreak method wipes your internal storage)
Also just to be totally clear : does the briefmobile method works fine with 100% stock unrooted no BL-unlock OTA 2.3? (i.e. did not use any sbf, cwm , nothing pure stock with OTA gingerbread). For example I read the preinstall thread and it seems to be guys talking about flashing sbfs. Then there are a million warnings not to flash sbfs if you've gone OTA gingerbread. So confused
There's just so much info floating around and its quite daunting TBH even for someone like me who's custom ROMmed Samsungs and HTCs before.

No you don't lose any files from the method I've posted about. Also, Gingerbreak didn't have that effect for everyone - I didn't lose anything when I did that on 4183.
And yes, it works on stock Motorola provided Gingerbread. That's what I have.

I'm trying that method and it keeps saying "command not found"
so I tried this method here

any idea?

I was rooted prior to this update and used the preinstall method to gain root again. Apps were not asking for root permissions.
ive never been rooted before. once i do the fastboot reboot and get loaded back up. I try the adb shell command and i get cant find device. What am i doing wrong?
I just uninstalled and reinstalled Superuser from the Market instead of clearing the app data.

I got the ota the other day and debated installing it because my M is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked and I have flashed ClockworkMod recovery. I searched for a while to see what others were saying and didn't really find anything of note so I decided to go ahead and run the install. When the phone rebooted into recovery and tried to install the update, it gave me the following Error: E: Failed to verify whole-file signature. Then there was an option to apply unsigned update (or zip, I can't remember the wording exactly). I chose not to do this and went back in the recovery menu and rebooted back into system. The phone booted normally and then immediately rebooted on its own back into recovery to try to install the update again, ending in the same results. This happened 2-3 more times before I finally formatted the Cache Partition through cwm which ended the bootloop (not sure that you can really describe that as a bootloop since it was actually doing what it thought it should be). My question is this, is it safe to go ahead and install the unsigned update via CWM? I have also since seen threads stating that if you had removed some of the bloatware apps, that the update would fail. I have removed many of these unneeded apps, should I reinstall them? I have seen a link or two to the bloat apks...
Having a unlocked bootloader doesn't matter. You just need to be stock 4.1.1 bloatware and all.
what he said^
you can update it with cwm but you have to have all the crapware that came stock still present.
Do you have to unroot first to get it to install? I have TWRP recovery on mine and can't get the update to install.

Well I tried it and it failed the check for the Amazon MP3 app. I reinstalled it from the play store but according to another post I found later this doesn't work because it isn't installed to the /system/app directory. The only way around this that I have seen is to use the RAZR M utility to return back to out of box status and start over. Not worth it to me but if anyone has another idea, I am all ears...

You could try grabbing the apk from /data/app and moving it to /system...
Or grab it from one of the many /system dumps around here...
Someone should turn the OTA into a flashable zip from CWM/TWRP that doesn't check for that.
I may do that...

I had the same thought about moving the apk to the system/app directory and did just that. My expectation was that I would still get the error but for a different app since I just tested with the one that had been throwing the error but it didn't change, still gave the error for the amazon mp3 app even though it was successfully installed in the correct directory. Thanks for the thought though. If you could turn it into a flashable zip, I would be much appreciated. I would love to do that myself but I have no idea how. I know just enough through trial and error (and a lot of forum reading) to be dangerous...
After installing 4.1.2, I can no longer fastboot back to 4.1.1 or 4.0.6. They put in some sort of backrev check.

There is a 4.1.1 system dump here. Download it, transfer any missing apps in /system/app over to your phone.
The reason you have to have those is that the current one from the playstore will be different, causing the update check to fail and abort.

Smoothest Beta install ever. I dirty flashed the whole image (removed -w from script to keep data) from June Android 10. Everything so far seems to be perfect. My banking apps are working just fine. Also appears that I do not need magisk to certify the playstore (bootloader unlocked obvs) for Netflix to update. It's appearing just fine for me in the Playstore.

Hi, I am pretty good at flashing my phone but I am lost about something. If I try to flash like I have always done using adb, the phone will boot loop with that "device corrupt" error.
But if I flash using the Android Tools from developer.android website the phone will work just fine.
I would prefer to install myself using adb so I can root, have twrp, etc. How did you flash the beta?

I assume of course you are unlocked. Manual flashing Google phones is super easy. Be sure you are doing the full system image and not an update package. You also need to fully remove magisk if you have modules enabled. That's important, you will bootloop. If you just are using it for root without any modules, you don't have to do anything, just reflash it after it's done to reinstall (it'll keep all your SU requests from before).
I won't get into adb setup or Windows, because I use Linux and its so simple it hurts. I just edit the install script (for Linux that's the flash-all.sh file) to remove the wipe command, and fire up a terminal: adb reboot bootloader, then while in fastboot just type: ./flash-all.sh The windows command is similar with a .bat file, but how you execute it is different - that's for someone else.
That's it, the terminal and fastboot handle everything else. It's the only way I'll do it, as you can see everything that's happening and/or any errors that arise.

And from there I can only take screenshot of app switcher Windows. Also they removed most used apps from app switcher which i used to use a lot
Anyone tried rooting with Canary Magisk?
