Question about fingerprint scanner - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So if you jailbreak iPhone 5s/6/6plus you can unlock the phone by just putting your finger on the home button without unlocking the screen. Is it possible with some tool in Samsung Galaxy s5 by just swiping the pad without turning the screen on making the phone unlock?
Thanks for answers

I would totally like that if it is possible, and think it won/t use too much battery as if it is only the print sensor on, I hope somebody can help us with this.

Yes its a very awesome feature and I think its possible if some dev looks into it. I dont have S5 atm but I am considering buying the phone if this is possible

As of right now, there is no mod that allows this. but i'm sure sooner or later some dev will get it to work, as the posters above me have already said.

It will take a hit on the battery since this feature will be emulated through software since the hardware restricts it. For that to happen we have to modify the kernel to make the cpu stay awake at all times at low power. It's just like the Double tap to wake feature that is also sort of "emulated".

I have also discovered a useful feature: long-pressing that button on the right-hand side of the phone will power on/off your Note.

Power modes like windows

Hey guys this might be a strange or stupid question.
I'm looking to see if anyone knows of a silent app or some flash able mod that can do the following.
plugged into a power source the screen timeout will change to say 10 min and brightness to 100%. Then when I remove power the screen will go to auto brightness and timeout in 1 min.
I'm kinda surprised android didn't ship with this feature. A feature I really think needs to be implemented, or if I'm just so stupid I can't find this option, just call me a idiot and tell me where in settings it is lol.

well, it doesnt exist in the system but you could get this function with Tasker
i would imagine that it doesnt exist because it is such a rare case scenario, considering the device is designed to run disconnected from power....its a mobile device
Maybe one of those power or battery saver program can do it. But I guess you can try Tasker.

i love the nexus 4, the only thing that drives me mad is the power button on the side.
I'm always finding the screen on and unlocked when pulling the phone out my pocket
has anyone found any apps or any tips how to stop this??

up to now... I don't think it is visible AFAIK.
And if you try to google out there, there is/are app(s) which manipulate this function, by keep screen on, and make the color of the screen turn black (as if it is off). And it is working only with OLED display.
I never use/try it, because I don't really like the idea with my N3, whereby I have the s-view attached already.

Hardware keys to activate shutter?

Now that root is achieved and the device is water resistant, has anyone found a method to make one of the hardware keys activate the shutter since the screen can't recognize anything when submerged?

When I push volume up in the stock camera app it fires the shutter. It did work underwater too when I was on vacation before root was achieved so I know it wasn't a mod that I did.

Idk why I didn't even try that... Wow thank you Sir! I guess I assumed it would be the zoom since I was used to that on the Note 3 and S4.
Now to tell my customers.

You're welcome! Glad I could help. I'm surprised there is no toggle, I guess they felt no one used the zoom function.
