i love the nexus 4, the only thing that drives me mad is the power button on the side.
I'm always finding the screen on and unlocked when pulling the phone out my pocket
has anyone found any apps or any tips how to stop this??

Yeah, not super hard, as I don't want to break it. But a lot harder then I would be if I was trying to use the touch screen or buttons.
If I were you I'd go to best buy and ask to play with the demo. Try it on the demo, if it doesn't happen, exchange yours.
Thanks for the advice

Did you try it with the screen off or on because mine seems to do it when on only
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine does NOT click or feel like it's clicking when touching (moderate pressure) the notification bar area (right, left or center), with the screen on or off.
None of the three Nexus S handsets I've gone through so far have done that. Take it back. Samsung's QC needs a lot of work.
Thanks alot for the replies guys. I'll be exchanging it

Yea because tablets for the past 3 years with non-removable batteries have been bricked after freezes?

According to Nexus4 guide, which comes with the phone, you have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to reboot the phone.
I guess that can takes you out of a freeze.

I don't trust that method to be 100% reliable, though. Just from experience with my G2x and it freezing. My phone has a button combo that restarts the phone, but sometimes it fails when my phone is frozen and I still have to pull the battery.

On the nexus 4 the 10sec power button reboot is programmed on the hardware layer(pre-boot) and not the software layer. No matter how bad you freeze your phone in the o/s the power button hold will always reboot it plain and simple.
If you have a hardware issue though then your in trouble no matter what.

My nexus 4 just froze 2 min ago after trying to quit a game. I waited for it to do something but nothing happened. Holding power button down did NOT help.
I held the power button and the volume button down at the same time and it worked. Just sharing it with you guys! :good:
Hey there.
First off I'd like to say that I currently own a LG O2X but I'm planning to buy a N4 as soon as it's available again.
Now, to my question:
Let's assume that the phone freezes and it doesn't restart or react to anything you do. You can't take the battery out to reset the phone. What can you do to reboot it? That kinda makes me worry, as I haven't used any Android phone besides my O2X yet and I encounter this issue sometimes and fix it by taking out the battery and putting it back in.
Thanks in advance.

Does that cause the phone to reboot? With a freeze I mean a complete freeze. Touchscreen not responding to anything etc. That includes no power menu when holding down the power button.

Yes holding down the power button is like basically doing a battery pull. Take like 6-10 seconds.

no point in installing useless apps that consume memory when its in the OS natively. its not that difficult to press two buttons at the same time and getting it right. once you do it once or twice, you'd get the hang of it and all is good.
either that or flash a custom rom and u can add the screenshot button on your long press power button menu.

It's very tricky. I said the same thing when I was doing it on my galaxy Nexus but got the hang of it.
Place your hand on the volume down and power button before pressing them and then hold them both at the same time until your phone makes a screen shot animation.
I will give Samsung this though the slide to screen shot is very intuitive on the touch wiz platform.

Try first powering off your phone. I had a little issue and i could not get the shutting down menu after several attempts, the phone restarted it self and after it was up, I was able to take screenshots without any difficulties.

Hello guys my power button seems unresponsive most of the times...I'm kindda worried about it since i dont have warranty also
I am using touch control and stuff to reduce the usage of it as much as possible :good:
My question is, will replacing it cause any problem?? Will it be noticeable that its replaced??
Thanx in advance :good:

It may not be a power button hardware problem. A few members, including me have experienced bad power button behavior ever since the 4.3 update. At times mine seems unresponsive, or acts as if I press it twice. Like if I push it once to lock my phone it'll quickly go off and back on as if I pressed it twice. Also when pushing it to wake the screen it doesn't seem to respond at times and have to push it again. It happens very randomly. I'd say about 2 out of 10 times or so. I even flashed back to 4.2.2 for a few days and I had no issues whatsoever.

Seems to be for some. It's odd that only a few members have reported the issue. I'm sure there are others who do really have a button hardware problem, but I've pretty much ruled that out for myself.

I have the EXACT same behaviour!!
I didnt notice if it was because of android 4.3 but I have read about others saying the same thing.
Im about to leave the house to go the service centre and I found this
Im taking it anyway. Lets see what they say.
But its not 2 out of 10 for me. More like 7 out of 10
Really doubt that is the OS it had to be the power button get it replaced from the service centre that should solve the problem.
Facing the same problem but the service centre in my area does not have the power button in stock had asked me to wait for a week so that they can arrange it.
