Hello all,
I have run into quite the peculiar bug recently.. After flashing the SM-N900W8 Kit Kat Odin tar, I no longer have any data capabilities. I can still text and perform basic calls, but I have no LTE, 3G, etc..
The odd thing is that I redownloaded the .tar and tried again and it still doesn't give me data connectivity.
I just tried to enter in the Telus APN settings, and it has given me H+ connectivity, but still no more LTE. I honestly don't understand what is happening.
P.S. I end up with LTE just fine on Carbon ROM, or AOSP.
EDIT: Just rebooted the device and I have LTE now.
Background:
- Sprint L720
- International unlocked with GSM SIM
After updating to a new 4.4 ROM (Slimkat) and NAE (modem only from the modem thread), connecting to anything other than EDGE causes, what seems to be, a modem crash. If I force "GSM only"/2G connection, it's stable with EDGE. If I try to connect to 3G, I see "3G" quickly flash on the status bar next to the signal indicator (I have full service), and then the whole mobile connecting drops and resets... then it goes back to having full service, but no data connection at all - until I got to mobile settings and set it back to "2G" and it goes back to stable EDGE.
I am overseas with the phone (it's fully unlocked and I got a strong H+ connection with the old CM ROMs at the same location), so I am wondering if it's an issue with the new 4.4 ROMs not supporting GSM? Perhaps some sort of baseband/modem mismatch? I also flashed NAE (modem only) as well when I did the ROM - I have since downgraded, but perhaps it isn't fully downgrading?
I applied the MF9 full one-click, no joy ... I did a factory wipe and applied the 4.2 factory image from SamMobile, no joy...
Looking at the logcat, I see something along the lines of an error for 'Mobile network type unknown: 0'...
Any help would be greatly appreciated - only having EDGE is driving me nuts, especially when my actual mobile network here is very fast..
Let me know of any information I need to provide - Thanks
Ok, update - I applied the MK2 modem and then NAE, as I saw someone else do because they said that the NAE file is missing some things... no joy
This all seems to have happened after applying the NAE modem-only file - Does SlimKat not support GSM? I don't think it's SlimKat, because, even going back to the fresh "Factory default" flash that I got some SamMobile, I still had the same issue..
Which leads me to what I think the problem is - the Qualcomm settings. Those seem to be persistent across all ROM restores, so how do I go about resetting the QUALCOMM settings to default? Is there something I can do with EFS Professional/CDMA Toolbox or something?
Hi, I'm from India and have a GT-I9500 which has been running flawlessly for the past 1 year on BSNL service right up to OS version 4.4.2 firmware vers. I9500XXUFNE4. Since then I upgraded the firmware twice to I9500XXUFNG1 and subsequently to I9500XXUFNI2. Midway while using firmware I9500XUFNG1 in rooted version, I started noticing that my phone data would run normally for a while and then suddenly the data connectivity would drop from H+ mode to 3G but would not return to H+ even though I know that I am in an area that has consistently strong H+ signal. The only option to get H+ mode back was to go to Settings/More networks/Mobile networks/Network mode/ and change the setting to WCDMA only mode for two minutes and then switch back to WCDMA/GSM(autoconnect), then the phone would get H+ service back again for a few hours. I thought that it might have been some problem caused by rooting, so when the latest firmware (I9500XXUFNI2) was released this month I upgraded the firmware but since I lost root on upgrade, I did not root the phone, fearing the problem will come back since I thought root was causing it.
Now in stock firmware running on I9500XXUFNI2 I am still getting the same problem of the phone dropping to 3G mode from H+ and not reverting back ( the speed is not even 2G. Just the 3G icon shows it - data packets hardly get transferred) and I can rectify it only by switching to WCDMA mode and back to autoconnect, as previously stated.
I checked online for solutions, but I don't seem to see anyone facing such an issue.
I thought it could be a service provider problem, so I used SIMs from Idea and Airtel as well, but while using those networks also, the same problem persists, so I have deduced it is a problem pertaining to the phone only. Not sure if it is a hardware malfunction or firmware based.
Does anybody else from India running the latest firmware for GT-I9500 have similar problems, and is there a solution?
Thanks.

The problem is with the modem firmware. Change it back to the original or get a kernel.

Thank you, Devilslasher. Could you please link me to a thread where they have listed the original modem firmware? I did a search under the Samsung S4 subsection on xda but could not find any thread where modems/radios for Indian version was hosted.
Thanks in advance.
I flashed back to a stock rom and did a NV Rebuild on my phone to fix my GPS settings. I flashed back to a custom ROM after rooting again. Now I have lost 3G data connectivity. 4G, phone calls, and SMS work fine. I've done some searching and have not been able to find a fix to this problem. Any help would be appreciated.
I will add that I'm on a Lollipop ROM

Did you check the APN settings and make sure all parameters are correct?
I have this strange problem where sometimes my modem does not work after a clean flash. Usually just making sure the data network preference is set to LTE solves the issue, and after 10 min or less the phone picks up the band. But I've just done a clean flash teamUB 1/11 and its been 24 hours with no data connection. This same build worked fine for this same phone a week ago, but the 1/19 broke the phone so I had to do a clean wipe and go back to 1/11.
I've played with data roaming options in CDMA roaming mode, set to domestic roaming, national roaming. Still no data
Any advice?
This is for a 900P (sprint) - Note that I am on CREDO (uses Sprint network)
EDIT - FIXED YAY!!! FULL LTE WORKING GREAT!

Since last time / last week have you flashed any new modems?

The issue started when I was forced to wipe my system data and do a clean install in order to get the phone functional after boot loop from 1/19 update. so yes, I would assume that the modem built into the 1/11 update I rolled back to (clean install) contained the modem. But, as stated, the 1/11 build was working fine for me before, and not now.
Is there a way to just update the modem itself on this build/phone? I've been wondering about that and wanted to try it if possible.

There is no modem included in TeamUB's roms.
First thing's first, what model are you using? Go to signature settings and write your model there, this way whoever is helping you they will know what they're dealing with.

Sorry, I wrote 900P in the first post, I thought that was enough information. I've updated my signature to contain more information.
thanks

No need to say sorry man, just mean it makes it easier. Haha you're signature says 900O lol.
1 Install Samsung USB driver for mobile phones
2 Download the NE5 modem one click flasher here
3 Put your phone into download mode (Turn off the device, press Volume Down, Home and Power Buttons simultaneously, Once you see the warning message, release all buttons, Press Volume Up to enter download mode, Now your device should be in download mode)
4 Run the file from #2 and flash modem (if NE5 doesn't help try the other ones).
I don't think it's a modem problem though. IMO it's either the rom or the operator..

The NE5 throws a <OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid error. I flashed the ND2 version and no immediate data connection, but from past experience it can take a little while for the modem to sync. No idea what causes the delay, but everytime i flash a new rom it can take sometimes up to 30min before it gets a data connection. Been 15min no connection yet.
Couldnt find a mirror anywhere of that NE5 one click flasher. Know of any other hosts? i googled to no avail.

Update:
I have restored a old backup to kitkat, modem working fine, instant connection. Then I did a system wipe, clean flash to cyanogenmod 1/20 update released yesterday.....no modem. Restored backup again to kitkat, then did a dirty flash to 1/20 cyanogenmod.....no modem.
I think the issue is 5.0 itself. The issue is so random, I do not know how to troubleshoot it. I've installed maybe a dozen CM's so far, and its been a coin toss whether the modem works after install. Sometimes it syncs up after a few min, and sometimes never. its really strange because I had the modem working fine on TeamUB from late december, through 3 or 4 updates until 1/19 boot looped it. Now after that nothing has gotten the data back on other than restoring to kitkat.
When i did the clean install to cyanogenmod, on the startup process where it says 'waiting to activate cellular service' it gets stuck there and never activates the data.
Also, when trying to flash the NE5 tar md5 you linked to, I get md5 error! Binary is invalid. Im supposed to use AP, yes?
EDIT - Changed preferred network type to 3G and after a few reboots got data! Going to change back to LTE now and give it some time to see if i can get it to sync up.

No luck leaving it on LTE. When I switch back to 3g I can get a connection, LTE set in preferences I get no connection, not even 3g. I've been testing around the city and at my home, where I can always pickup a LTE connection from past experience.
It seems that the LTE protocol within 5.0 is buggy for my situation. If it works, it seems to work fine, but when it doesnt work, it never works. So its either glass is full or empty

There are two versions of labels in Odin. The "normal" says "phone" the one I don't like says "CP". You have the Odin I don't like lol, so yours says "CP". That's where you put the modem. "AP" is for firmware/roms only.
Try these two modems, which I found on this page, NK4 for 4.4 while NKD is for 5.0.
Try Ktoosez kernel and also check your Apn settings, it's supposed to be optimised for CDMA phones and might help you.

Wahooo! Flashing NKD with odin and messing with the APN's has fixed it!!! You rock!
I took a look at ktoosez kernel, what exactly would it bring to me? Always interested in new tools......

Congrats! I'm glad it worked out Ktoonsez mentioned in the CM12 thread that his kernel was optimized for sprint/verizon phones in some way, don't remember what though :silly:
