Hey everyone,
Context: I have a rooted stock 4.2.2 rom Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but I don't think that matters.
Last week I started experiencing hangs, and stutters with various applications, it would just freeze for 1-3 seconds and start moving again.
Then notifications, especially download notifications started to persist after clearing.
Starting 3 days ago anything I downloaded would stop between 50% and 73% and wouldn't finish for 5-10 minutes. This also applied to any and all installations.
Starting yesterday, all data transfer and text messages, even anything over wifi is taking 5-10 minutes or more, and sometimes never comes unless I do a battery pull.
I tried installing Titanium Backup in hopes of being able to back up my phone, but it won't generate the popup to ask for root privileges.
I've tried clearing the data and cache on just about any app/process I thought could be causing this. I've also done a cache partition wipe, it did not help.
I'm thinking a factory reset is in order, but wanted to get a 2nd opinion as to whether there is any other fix.

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but when I first rooted, installed safestrap, and then Jelly Beans 106 on my Note 3, my phone would start up fine but then restart constantly. I would get my home screen, then immediately get notifications that various apps had crashed, and then the phone would reboot, but not fully though, it wouldn't go directly to the Jelly Beans boot animation, not through the full boot from the beginning with the samsung logo. From start up to reboot varies, but usually whatever app i was using would crash within a minute, and my phone would crash/lockup/reboot maybe 30 seconds to a minute later. It did not matter what app i as using or what I was doing. Actually I just noticed it somehow lost all my email settings, none of the accounts are there anymore.
If I booted into the stock rom from safe strap it seemed stable, but never with Jelly Bean. I had tried clearing the caches, wiping the phone, and a bunch of other fixes and nothing worked. In a last ditch effort I tried the process again, from the very beginning, I retooted my phone, reinstalled everything, and it worked, until three days ago when it started rebooting again. I had about three months of my phone being perfect, and then it just started rebooting randomly on it's own. The only thing that I can think that I did was decline some usage rights for the my magazine samsung app, that was the last thing I did before my phone went crazy.
I can't even get the stock rom to be stable anymore, it will do the same thing, whats' going on? I don't get why my phone was so stable, and then it went all haywire again. anybody have any idea of what I can do?
My VS980 for the third time now randomly started lagging and hanging. By that I mean the main watch on accuweather hangs, sending text messages and downloading hangs, and just switching through home screens and app list the screen freezes and then unfreezes. Apps barely boot and social, calendar widgets do not update, and typing freezes after every word for about 3 seconds. Restart and safe mode do not fix this problem. The previous 2 times I did a hard reset but it seems to only fix the issue for about 5-7 days, but those are annoying, so is there any other solutions or anyone aware of this such type problem?
Is there some certain program you keep re-installing that could be causing issues? Have you tried any custom roms?

Definitely sounds like a rogue program running in the background. My advice is for you to do a hard reset, then install apps one at a time (run it, of course), and find out which program is causing an issue. An alternative is that you google each app to see if others using the same apps have issues.
I got this phone recently from insurance, could it be something in Kernel issue or something else? I did another hard reset, I'll look out for any apps, but it happened randomly without any downloads or installs. I have no custom roms, and I only have news apps and 3 games from EA.
Question - Could this possibly be spawned by originally having rooting problems? The phone was sort of frozen on my first root attempt for some unknown reasons, the command box suddenly froze and the android icon was frozen, I had to restart my phone and attempt root again even though the previous root attempt started and was cut off, and the first time the lag issue happened was the next day. Do you think I should try un-rooting and re-rooting my phone? Or is that irrelevant.
Past oomberr
Are you running any custom roms, kernel, mods? Recovery installed?
Possibly a modem problem
I had this problem on my G2, and changing my modem seemed to fix it. I was using EUR KK modem even though I'm in the Middle East. Try changing to your region specific modem and then it can fix it, a dalvik/normal cache wipe can help. If all fails then try wiping, or switching roms.

I have searched most of all of the threads related to random reboot in the Q&A section, none of the suggestions have helped.
My phone recently (past month or so) has started rebooting on its own. No common factor among the reboots either. Sometimes it would happen while playing a game, sometimes while listening to music, sometimes when it wasn't in use, sometimes when receiving or sending a text. Each reboot is accompanied by a drop in battery charge shown in the battery settings (the battery charge jumps back to it's previous level. It happens regardless of the battery (used 3 different ones). I am using Negalite WondeROM NG2, with accompanying kernel. No overclock/undervolting. When it shuts off it sometimes just instantly turns off and back on, other times it stays off for a while and boots up on its own, and other times it stays off until I turn it back on. I have 3 logcats, and no common factors immediately prior to shut off. 2/3 of them show fatal errors pertaining to libc, but not immediately prior to shutdown. I can upload them somewhere if they are needed, however I don't see a common factor among them to indicate what the problem is. The problem seems to be getting more frequent as time goes on, too. I'm backing up all user apps via Titanium as I type this.
TL;DR phone reboots randomly, no prominent common factors among reboots, logcats don't provide any clues to me (I'm no expert though). Anyone have any suggestions?
Update in case anyone has the same problem: I wiped cache and Dalvik cache, did a factory reset, then upgraded to negalite wonderom v3. After enabling the xposed mod smooth progress bars, I noticed a problem with my install button as i was restoring apps from titanium backup (I couldn't press the install button). After disabling, this problem went away. My guess is the problem was I was using v1, or it was that specific xposed mod, or a combo of both since I have had 0 problems since then. Anyway, it appears that the problem is solved.
Edit: I also switched from Nega's ng2 kernel to the stock one. That might have an effect too
I've had two random reboots after my 2:30am finishing time with the update. Once during the night, because my Gsam battery said it was only on for 33 minutes when I had woken up. And just a few minutes ago??
I think they are both "not so random" though. This morning and this afternoon, both corresponded with receiving a text message? I use YAATA, which has "chatheads".....So, I'm not sure if that caused it or what? I've used it many times since then, and in-between, with no issues, but those two reboots were the same time I received a text?
Factory reset always solves after update glitches...usually
Mine has been doing this every night and it's very inconvenient because I have enter PIN to boot so I can't use the alarm. I did a factory reset after updating.
Mine has not done it again since starting this thread... I had a text sending error and had to turn off/on data, (but I also had 2 text messaging apps installed at the time to test out, so this could have been my fault). I also had a Playstore issue where the Playstore didn't load....But I also installed the newest APK I downloaded here on XDA (once again, could have been my fault). A restart fixed these issues. I also "Wiped the Cashe" in the stock recovery while I was trouble shooting.
Initially, right after the Nougat upgrade, I did a wipe/factory reset before I let it boot the first time. I haven't had any issues since yesterday afternoon, but if I have any more I'll probably do a factory restore and start over from scratch.
I have not had any other issues that I see others are having (like with Instagram)
