Hi mate ,
First thing , we need more info , what S4 you have , what rom you have , what kernel you got
Slow charging may be due to unstable power source , kernel will keep lowering the charging current until it decides is stable enough , it may be caused by , defective usb cable , defective usb port , defective charger and of course a defective battery
The jumping up and down in the battery percentage it may happens , battery percentage is influenced by the "load" ( apps , screen, processor speed) on the phone at the moment, so is not that unusual the jumps in charge ( relative small ones , not of 40%)
Try a different battery if you can , try with a different charger and a different cable
Also install an app like BBS

Let it run for a few hours to see what is going on inside.

Yea that's true... last month when i dint have the charger with me, I charged gene with usb cable, but it got drained very fast. I was sad to see that my battery is not doing well. even planned to replace it. But later when i charged with original charger, it worked just fine...
My battery depletes even during charging for example if i play game or use barnacle.I have tried 3-4 different ROMS and its still the same.ALso,it take a lot of time to charge 100 percent. What is the problem guys.

Do you charge the phone via USB (computer)?
This is a common issue if you use your conmputer as a USB charger. Computer USB can't supply enough energy to your phone. The USB current is too low only 0.3mA or 0.5mA.
Just use the ORIGINAL charger or other well-quality charger with higher current (700mA+). This is enough for both charging and playing. Of course the charging will take longer time while playing.
The higher current will not damage your phone. It will charge your phone faster.
NotOriginal and cheap charger may have low current-output or the charger is sometimes bad designed than the phone will recognize it as i computer USB. (if bad designed than the phone takes only low current even if the charger is able to supply more)

Sometimes the radio uses more juice than the poor original 700mA charger can supply.
Causing a lot of heat to build up on the battery.

Not glad to hear that. I have never (only 2+months with X10) observed a problem with the original charger while using the phone (playing, GPS or wifi). Sometimes a bit warmer, which I consider to be common.
In general is the reason the same. The phone requests more then the charger supply
I think it's a software issue.
The bluetooth used to eat away at the battery but BB.67 sorted that out.
Wifi never was a problem for me.
But the GSM Radio is a absolute battery PIG.
It's using so much juice it's scary.
I hope SE sorts out all the ****.

Well it is probably also related to the signal level..? I use BB 58, never use BT. The GSM signal is almost full at home (while charge).
BTW: To charge the phone with the original charger takes tightly 1h for me. (from +/-30% to 100%) (not using the phone)
Mine's was not charging above 88%, but then I deleted batt. stat and it went to 98% and then 97% and then again to 100% then I used an app called Battery Calibrator and everything is fine now.
Depends what game your playing. Pocket legends with screen and volume on full, wifi connected, overclocked and set performance etc etc I can use a fully charged battery plugged in and drain it in 2hours. Its just supply and demand, the charger can't keep up.

Yeah.. it's not getting enough juice.
The GSM radio "heavy power eater" + wifi = no good.
I use battery doctor, which gives options to kill unwanted applications, monitor battery temperature, do full battery recharge cycles.
But also you need to turn off Wifi for battery save and keep u away from radiation

That's not the point.
The hardware should be able to charge faster than it's using up the juice.

I checked again and I think its coming just from the battery.. those terminals. My battery never reached over 45 C and usually operates in 32-37 C and phone does not reboot at all by itself, may be I am just over cautious. Also, it is X10 HD (newer batch).
May be there is something wrong with the battery as I have flashed many roms in last few days and had deleted batt. stat everytime I flashed it. Enlighten me on this stuff. Should I undervolt and underclock CPU to avoid any damage to CPU?
To full chagne the battery, need more than 10 hours. Tried different ROMs, Batteries, changers, cables. the same result.
It looks like a hardware issue...... but....
when I used a DC power supplier(5.2V, limit to 1A) and plug in the cable, it appears the DC current is 0.5A, and after 10 second, fall down to 0.1A. at least, in the first 10secend the hardware worked all right...

I was quite surprised when I switched to the Note from the Dell Steak. My old phone would charge much quicker. The Note takes about six hours to fully charge I'd say. As a result I plug it in pretty much whenever I can.

Yeah, Mine can take around 5+ hours too if im charging it from <5%
Bear in mind that it is a bigger than normal battery, 2500mah.
But if it is like you say, Taking 10+hours to charge, Id get it looked at, Maybe send it off for repair or something.

Isn't it bad to constantly charge your phone even when it still has battery?
I heard it reduces the battery's life span.
I dont believe it is, I often charge mine even when its got plenty of juice left.
It may reduce life span, But the battery will live longer than the time you will own the phone so i guess it dont matter
No one can help. feel bad.

From what I've read, it's what you're supposed to do with the current generation of batteries. But then there's so much crap floating about about batteries it gets hard to figure out what is reliable info.
And this is with the original charger? If it's not an official charger, there's a big chance the phone will draw only what's usually allowed across USB. Which isn't much... In fact, with USB, the power draw of GPS/screen on/games can make your phone discharge even with the charger on. So try the official charger, on AC power.
Same problem...
I have the same problem.
At the beginning, about 3 months ago, my SGN works fine, battery are charged to 100% in 2 hours maximum.
I'm buy the phone from a Samsung Store, all accessories are originals. Today I send my phone to the technical assistance and there's no problem with battery or the charger.
My problem stars about 3 weeks, with an alert about different voltages after a full charge, the problem was solved only removing the battery and waiting an hour. At the technical assistance, the answer was to charge the phone when it's shutdown.
I already try that, format the cache, rebuild the system, everything using the ICS LQ3 from Baltic.

Is the problme solved after remove the battery for 1 hour?
paddyzou, the problem with the wrongs voltages, yes, my steps to solve this:
- Full discharge
- Shutdown of the phone
- Remove the battery for 1 hour
- Full charge with the phone hang out
The problem with the low charge I think that was okay, it's seen to be happen in random times, I just flash another LQ3(France) version of ICS yesterday and seems to be working fine.

This is correct, a chemical reaction takes place while the battery is discharging and is reversed when charging(changing). The chemistry of the battery changes how they hold energy. The Lithium ion batteries in our phones can be charged any time, they have no "memory" characteristics like previous rechargeable batteries (NiCd).
OP, it sounds like your charger is going. My stock HTC charger (2-3 years old) now only charges at about 40% the speed, which means the phone will discharge while its plugged in. I recommend grabbing one of those tiny square usb chargers (1A 5v, not 0.5A). I got one for like $6, as long as its 1A it will be quick.
Last night I've put my phone to charge until morning, and I've put the phone under a pillow because I have a one person bed and I don't want to hit it with my legs. In the morning, when I took the phone out....
The phone was extremely HOT! And I know where the parts are in this phone, and not the motherboard heatead up so much, the battery! I was so scared because this thing could explode in my hands or could've exploded last night.
Also, when I saw the phone the notification led was blinking blue, but after cooling the phone I couldn't see any notification. Is that a alert or something to say that your phone is hot?
I don't want to have a "note 7" clone when charging in my house.
I have this phone for just 6 months. Also the battery right now drops percent like per minute, really weak.
Does anyone had this problem too?

I have found this in my manual. I will keep my eyes all day on my phone and will see if I will go to the service or not.
But I have bootloader unlocked, the phone was disassembled before, the water indicator is red, so I'm going to have to pay.
It happened to me. One thing I noticed that my phone was in wake lock. It never happened to me again. I think I was using LOS 14 at that time.

Every phone has heating problems. Few days ago i readed some articles and that stated: consumers should remove the custom cases when charging the phone. Do not keep your phone while charging on surfaces that stores heat (eg. your pillow), and try to not keep your phone on charge overnight. Even if its at 35-45% you should leave it so and wake up 30 min earlier every morning and charge again if you need more battery. 100% charge its not a good idea.
Remember you cant change battery easy, removing the back case its a pain, try to take care of your device, or you gonna buy a new phone soon

and yes ......2 A charger won't help with speeding up charging it would burn your IC instead..Your phone won't take in more than 1 Amp thats a factory limit and can't be unlocked without a custom kernel but still it's not safe.. Don't use that charger .....It's a placeboo that it charges faster ?

Could be the cable that came with the device that *might* be defective, I see nothing else. If you bought it from a local reseller, try to see with the shop maybe? If you bought it online, then you may want to buy a good quality USB-C cable, those made for charging the ultrabooks, for example. Wish you luck!

Yeah I use Overdrop Weather App and it's Widget... The issue here is maybe the power point where I plug my charger maybe that's underpowered....so I tried today on overpowered power point usually uses for Refrigerator or Washing Machine I plugged there my One Plus 8 Pro and magic happened my phone was on 45% and it went to fully 100% just in 45 minutes... So for now I figured out that issue was in power point not in My device. Hope it's true ?
