Poll: Screen protector?

I am still not 100% sure about if I need a screen protector or not.
Deciding factor is if it is possible to scratch?
Has anyone scratched there screen yet?
Lets do a poll to see if people are trusting the glass or not?
This glass seems scratch proof from most posts. I would only get one if there are Fingerprint resistance and Anti-Glare issues.
I won't get a screen protector for mine, shouldn't be necessary - I'm careful and don't keep keys in the same pocket. I had my i8910, also a glass capacitive screen, for six months and the screen is pristine.
I bought mines from htc direct yesterday, will post results on how the screen works afterwards.
I really need screen protector because i scratch all my phones, so lets keep this one new as long as I can.
well, imho the glass should be enough to handle your nails, keys etc... but i would suggest a pouch, or flip-it case, because that glas may shatter when dropped to ground (it does happen from time to time... my g/f dropped my phone twice, and me... maybe 3times)
I can't trust the glass and with a good reason my screen is cracked.
It's going back to HTC I've got to call them later today.
So yes I'll be fitting my screen protectors (that turned up the same day the phone broke)
I've voted on the too late option
Brando has them available on their website!

In fairness, scratched and cracked are very different things.
How did you crack it?
A screen protector will not stop a screen getting cracked it will only protect against scratches.
I don't intend to get a screen protector for mine, I've used them on my previous touch-screen phones and they've done a good job in protecting the plastic screens, but with the HD2's capacitive screen being glass it should be resistance to scratching anyway. Fingerprints are a minor problem, but then they are on any touch screen device.
The htc screen protector will stop the proximity sensor to work properly.
I have already tested the Brando Ultra Clear screen protector and the proximity sensor works without problems.
However, the "touch sense" is much inferior when compared to the naked glass.
I am thinking to remove it.
Iam using this screen protector from first day (Used the device for few hours without screen protector initially to test the sensitivity).
I don't find much reduction in sensitivity. Instead, i find the sensitivity to be perfect with the screen protector.

no it won't the iPhone had no trouble with this, so i don't see why the HD2 would either.

The mrs pressed the screen and it just gave way, it hadn't been dropped or even used that much. Can't figure out what happened tbh the LCD part is fine and it still responds to key presses.
HTC are picking it up tomorrow.

The problem is not the phone but the htc's screen protector
Can someone confirm if the official HTC screen protector messes with the proximity sensor?
I've just ordered myself a few of these...

They're a bit pricey, but they sound ideal. I especially like the fact you can take it off, wash it, and put it back on. I'm forever going through screen protectors because I'm such a pedant! One single speck of dust, and I take it off! lol

So she ain't the Mrs any more then? lol
It's very fair to say that a screen protector wouldn't have done a thing to help that. Glad to see HTC being so prompt about providing a replacement though.

It doesn't mate.
I briefly had a screen protector on mine and everything functioned as normal. I know for a fact that the proximity sensor works because I just tested it by sticking a bit of the discarded protector over it and making a call.
Everything worked just fine.
Edit: Sorry - just noticed you're talking about the official HTC ones. I'm not.
You said you briefly had a screen protector. Why did you take it off?
I don't put a screen protector on my watches so I don't see why I should on my HD2 either. I have always put screen protectors on plastic-fronted handsets but now they are going with glass I don't see the point. After all, if you look after it it shouldn't get scratched now!

Hd2 and jean pockets?

Hello,
I just bought an hd2, and I'm scared of sliding it in my jean pockets. Don't want to ruin the awesome 4.3 screen, so Is it really ok to place it in jeans? ( Not tight tight jeans, but normal ones lol)
Do you have a screen protector? I had my HD2 without a screen protector for a couple months and it always rode in my jean pockets. The only time my screen received any form of damage to it is when it slipped out of my hand and fell on the ground and went sliding on its screen. I now have two tiny scratches on the screen. You'll have no problem with it in your jeans but I would strongly suggest getting a screen protector in cause you should drop it like I did.
Yes, I have a screen protector applied on the screen.

Well then your completely safe. Even without a protector the screen themselves are built tough. Very scratch resistant. Its not the same type of glass/plastic they use for say, a Blackberry.
Just always use a screen protector and put the phone in your pocket empty, and screen side facing your leg. You don't want the screen facing outwards. I know this sounds obvious but its amazing if you watch at work how many people put their new smartphones in their pockets screen out just waiting to bump into a table corner.

[Q] do i need a screen protector?

I was wondering if I need a screen protector for the HTC HD mini, since it has tempered glass screen. Also I'm afraid a screen protector would interfere with the touch sensitivity or screen visibility.
Otherwise it would surely help with all those fingerprints on the screen
What do you guys think/recommend?!
cya.
Yes you need one. The same day that my protector arrived I dropped my phone and put three small dings on the screen. Too bad I was at work and had not applied the protector yet.
And as for interfering with the touch sensitivity, it is not affected. The only thing you will notice it some added drag on the screen. It is minimal at most.
Popone
Love My Mini
No, you don't. Unless you're either unlucky or clumsy, you don't need a condom for your phone.
Isn't the screen made from strong glass, meaning you can only scratch on it with a diamond? thats what i always heard about htc's newest phones even the HD2 had it
I bought one with my mini and I never experienced a difference in sensitivity
it's definitely usefull (I scratched my phone, it's not in the way but I can still remove the cover if it starts to bug me) but not necessary, the screen is quite strong and you'll have to make an effort to scratch it I think
just be carefull with your phone and save yourself some bucks
No need. The glass is of a tougher kind than ordinary glass. Same with iPhone 4. Except, HD mini has the soft plastic cover around the edges to protect it from easily breaking when hit on the edge. Solving the major iPhone 4 weakness.
The glass is tough. So it won't scratch with things that can usually scratch ordinary glass. If you accidentally hit it with some hard metal object, or scratch it with Wolverine's claw, it will certainly break whether you have protector or not.
I tried several screen protectors but everyone give me troubles with proximity sensor during phone call, infact during a call the phone became black even if the phone is far from my ears ! Anybody with same problem ?
definitely NOT, had a HD2 before with the same kind of display and wasnt able to scratch it.

Maybe not scratch proof but I would probably say scratch resistant. I have hand my omnia7 for 7-8 months and it has one small scratch less than half a centimeter and thinner than a hair. it is only visible when the screen is off and i have cleaned it well or when it is on a white screen, if looking very closly there is slight discolouration.
i dont take perticular care of what goes in my pocket with my phone and and not extra cautious though i have only dropped my phone once onto a wooden floor.
in short I have a scratch that is barely noticable and i am not looking for a screen protector as i belive the disadvantages of haveing one would outweight the tiny advantage that having one may have. also i dont think anyone with a screen protector that has the scratch that i have would consider the bother of replacing it!
hope that helps!

thank you, NikD1.
Mine fell down, and - how else could it be - on the screen. This has happened now three times I think. Not a single scratch. Not even the tiniest one.
That screen is really great!
As I hate using protection foils that made me buy this phone
By accident dropped it 2-3 times, holds very well. The screen/phone i have in a special case tighten to the belt so that it does not get any scratches on the screen.
Amazes me that i don't have the tinniest scratch on my screen; the screen seems to be very effective against scratches and damages.
No case, no screen protector, always in my pocket, but separate from keys or coins
Fell once or twice from my hands, marble floor
Fell maybe 3 times from the table, marble floor
Fell twice down the road, on concrete
...plus it was submerged in beer !
it hold perfectly, but I do see a tiny dent right in the center of the screen when sunlight is quite strong. Nothing major, though
My HTC Desire at this point was way more battered
I don't use a case or screen protector and I've got the phone in my pocket everyday. After a few months still not a single scratch
I've had mine for 8 months and I have several scratches on mine. they are all from sitting in my pocket without anything else in them.
I noticed my first scratch quite early on (within a few months) but these scratches are actually pretty hard to see and you have to be looking for them pretty deliberately to see them.
I wonder if it is the same with the other folks... you may have scratches on your screen but you probably can't see them very well.
i dont understand why samsung dont have used glorilla glass for this device
When I compare my Omnia7 with my former phone(Xperia X1) is Omnia7's screen like a rock, but you can scratch if you carry it with key's or any sharp objects...
I carry my omnia in a Case around my waist and have no scartches yet

AFAIK it IS gorilla glass. (As it is the same as for the wave)
I don't think it has Gorilla glass, I got my phone, it was shiny and new, no scratches on the screen whatsoever (I inspected it thoroughly for defects) and after a few days of using, noticed a scratch when I cleaned the screen, thin as a hair but 2cm long Thankfully when I applied the screen protector, it has hidden it really well. I barely used the phone and I always kept it in my left pocket (which I only ever exclusively use for my mobile phone!)
i also have some scratches. after a month of use they appeared. i have no idea how they got there, i take a very good care of the phone, it never gets into contact with anything other than my fingers.
but the scratches are only noticeable when the screen is perfectly clean (which is almost never), turned of and looked from a specific angle.
I have more issues with grease. those guys are killing me.
Oh my god, so i'd better buy a screen protector for my omnia 7 :-(((
Yes, Gorilla Glass... After 3 months of use I still don't have a scratch (knock on wood) even without a screen protector...
no, it's not I am pretty sure... I got a little scratch now... I just want to cry now....
All I know is that both me and my sister got Omnia 7s back in November last year.
I put a screen protector and case on mine and am very careful with my phone and its still perfect.
She on the other hand has no case and no screen protector and is not very careful with her things. She has one little scratch on hers where her dog knocked it across a tile floor. It has been dropped numerous times and shoved in a bag with all sorts.
I'd say it's pretty resiliant.
A used phone without any scratches on the screen is a disgrace
Gorilla glass, even with the proper branding aren't totally scratch proof, to the best of my knowledge. Anyway, two omnia7 for 8 months, not a scratch (almost )

Do you use a screen protector for your note?

I have a screen protector currently, but I'm thinking of taking it off.
What do you guys think? Are you folks using a screen protector?
I don't use screen protector because I want the best touch experience
I never used one on my DHD and I don't use one on my Note either.
I sure use one.
Recently I had a clean slice on my screen and I was worried that the cut might be deep enough to have gone through the screen protector and scratched my screen. So I took the protector off and thankfully the screen protector was enough to stop the scratch.
So it has it uses.
Putting a screen protector is a nightmare though because of dust particles, so whenever I want to put a screen protector on I view the screen under light at an angle to see if there is any dust particles on the screen. That way I can see even the "smallest" dust particle. So whenever I place a screen protector I take about 30 to 40 mins to put one on my Note. Also it's not like I change screen protector like a baby's dippers. The current one will be on there pretty much forever unless something like a scratch happens that will force me replace it. Otherwise it's pretty much a one time thing.
My screen protectors are very good quality ones.

I am using SGP Ultra Optics, touch is fine, just finger prints are still there.
I've had my Note for over six months without a screen protector, just a gel case, and not a mark on it. Whenever it's in a pocket it never shares space with anything else that might harm it such as coins or keys.
I didn't protect my ZTE Blade before it, my MDA Vario before that, or any other phone I've owned. I don't put protectors on the display of any of my several cameras, and none of those have suffered as a result either. The only device I've ever applied a screen protector to was my Palm Tungsten T3, and with the flip cover for that, that was probably the most unnecessary application of a protector to any device I've ever owned.
Never.
Hate them.
brought my first screen protector the other day, put it on and that night i was going for a run and my note fell out of my pocket and went across the road for 5 meters, screen protector saved my phone.
I used to but I don't anymore. My note fell any the screen broke so I had to get a new one. Now I don't use a screen protector but I use seidio gel protector. I like it better like this.
Zag is the best.

Normally I kinda dislike screen protectors on touchscreens but after I got tiny scratches on my display I put a screen protector and hey, this wasn't that bad. I got used to it and now I can't imagine a screen without it.
It let me to be more careless with my Note.

Im using in every phone, that i have,a screen protector.
I always using thin screen protectors and until now i never had any touch problems, only fingers prints and i wipe them off
If you touch to put a screen protector, choose a thin one
Bought 2x sgp ultra. Tried in vain to fit them on the phone but found it impossible to do so without getting dust trapped.
So I threw them both away, and looking back, I'm glad I did.
I just keep it in one pocket and don't put anything else in there with it.

So you are saying you never have dust or sand particles in your pockets as those bastards are the ones scratching the screens. Keys or coins won't do it as they're softer than your phone's screen.
E: I am using a cheapo screen protector (7,99€ for two) and it does not affect the user experience at all.
I dropped my note face down on the concrete twice from my jacket pocket. No scratch. I'm not using a screen protector.

I just took off my screen protector and now it feels really good.. Galaxy note's screen is one of its USP's and it needs to be felt raw not with a layer on it.
I know that the Note has a Gorilla Glass but I still use a screen protector on mine. It's probably just paranoia but hey, better be safe than sorry since at the end of the day, I did spend quite a bit on the phone

I'm using the same and got like two or three bubbles but not on screen, more on the border of the screen. I like the protector alot. As far as for me I can't notice any difference with or without.
I always use a screen protector just because I'm paranoid

I have two small children and because of that I spend some time in sand boxes. That sand is the worst when comes to making tiny scratches. I bought a copter shield a couple of weeks after getting the note due to scratches starting to emerge. I also made a deeper scratch with the help of a zipper, (which is embarresing since im closely related to the inventor of the zipper ).
I do have the feeling that the "Note" is a bit more sensitive than other gorilla glass endowed phones. Maybe it has a coating that scratches more easily or something...
