Maybe not scratch proof but I would probably say scratch resistant. I have hand my omnia7 for 7-8 months and it has one small scratch less than half a centimeter and thinner than a hair. it is only visible when the screen is off and i have cleaned it well or when it is on a white screen, if looking very closly there is slight discolouration.
i dont take perticular care of what goes in my pocket with my phone and and not extra cautious though i have only dropped my phone once onto a wooden floor.
in short I have a scratch that is barely noticable and i am not looking for a screen protector as i belive the disadvantages of haveing one would outweight the tiny advantage that having one may have. also i dont think anyone with a screen protector that has the scratch that i have would consider the bother of replacing it!
hope that helps!

thank you, NikD1.
Mine fell down, and - how else could it be - on the screen. This has happened now three times I think. Not a single scratch. Not even the tiniest one.
That screen is really great!
As I hate using protection foils that made me buy this phone
By accident dropped it 2-3 times, holds very well. The screen/phone i have in a special case tighten to the belt so that it does not get any scratches on the screen.
Amazes me that i don't have the tinniest scratch on my screen; the screen seems to be very effective against scratches and damages.
No case, no screen protector, always in my pocket, but separate from keys or coins
Fell once or twice from my hands, marble floor
Fell maybe 3 times from the table, marble floor
Fell twice down the road, on concrete
...plus it was submerged in beer !
it hold perfectly, but I do see a tiny dent right in the center of the screen when sunlight is quite strong. Nothing major, though
My HTC Desire at this point was way more battered
I don't use a case or screen protector and I've got the phone in my pocket everyday. After a few months still not a single scratch
I've had mine for 8 months and I have several scratches on mine. they are all from sitting in my pocket without anything else in them.
I noticed my first scratch quite early on (within a few months) but these scratches are actually pretty hard to see and you have to be looking for them pretty deliberately to see them.
I wonder if it is the same with the other folks... you may have scratches on your screen but you probably can't see them very well.
i dont understand why samsung dont have used glorilla glass for this device
When I compare my Omnia7 with my former phone(Xperia X1) is Omnia7's screen like a rock, but you can scratch if you carry it with key's or any sharp objects...
I carry my omnia in a Case around my waist and have no scartches yet

AFAIK it IS gorilla glass. (As it is the same as for the wave)
I don't think it has Gorilla glass, I got my phone, it was shiny and new, no scratches on the screen whatsoever (I inspected it thoroughly for defects) and after a few days of using, noticed a scratch when I cleaned the screen, thin as a hair but 2cm long Thankfully when I applied the screen protector, it has hidden it really well. I barely used the phone and I always kept it in my left pocket (which I only ever exclusively use for my mobile phone!)
i also have some scratches. after a month of use they appeared. i have no idea how they got there, i take a very good care of the phone, it never gets into contact with anything other than my fingers.
but the scratches are only noticeable when the screen is perfectly clean (which is almost never), turned of and looked from a specific angle.
I have more issues with grease. those guys are killing me.
Oh my god, so i'd better buy a screen protector for my omnia 7 :-(((
Yes, Gorilla Glass... After 3 months of use I still don't have a scratch (knock on wood) even without a screen protector...
no, it's not I am pretty sure... I got a little scratch now... I just want to cry now....
All I know is that both me and my sister got Omnia 7s back in November last year.
I put a screen protector and case on mine and am very careful with my phone and its still perfect.
She on the other hand has no case and no screen protector and is not very careful with her things. She has one little scratch on hers where her dog knocked it across a tile floor. It has been dropped numerous times and shoved in a bag with all sorts.
I'd say it's pretty resiliant.
A used phone without any scratches on the screen is a disgrace
Gorilla glass, even with the proper branding aren't totally scratch proof, to the best of my knowledge. Anyway, two omnia7 for 8 months, not a scratch (almost )

Anyone know how tough the glass screen on the Hero is? I've been mollycoddling mine ever since I got it, but my brother just slings his iPhone in his pocket and it's never scratched.
My Touch Diamond screen ended up with countless tiny scratches after 6 months living in my pocket. :-(
Can confirm, concrete and the screen do not mix.
Get a screen protector
Hero's screen is made of "gorilla glass" same as the Iphones
I've been taking good care of mine too, only keeping it in an otherwise empty pocket. Somehow managed to get a tiny scratch tho.
Sorry for reviving the thread, but didn't want to start a new one. Can anyone confirm that the screen is indeed made of the same material as the iPhone per NisseGurra's post? (not doubting, just would rather ask and potentially find a source that confirms this )
I must say that the screen to me feels more plasticy than the iPhones ( I've held them side by side ).
I bought some protector screen off ebay, and so long as you put them on with care, they're very good.
Yeah I threw one on that came w/ a Flexishield case I purchased from eBay, but now I'm really starting to appreciate the anti-grease coating that was on the screen before I put the protector on. That's why I was wondering... if it truly is a scratch-resistant screen, I'd consider going protector-less for the sake of having a TON less smudging.
while it's pretty expensive, I suspect the HTC official screen protectors must have the anti-grease coating too - I certainly haven't noticed a difference in smudging level
in a small portion in the corner of my screen i thought i would test this out, even using a screw or blade with a fair bit of pressure it didnt scratch i think for normal usage ie keys in pocket you will stay scratch free.
I must admit, whatever they have coated the screen with seems to be far less scratch prone than other handsets I've had.
I do look after it TBH, but then I always do look after my handsets, hate scratched screens.
It does appear to be coated in a plastic and does not feel like glass. yet its cold to the touch just like glass would be, whereas plastic would feel 'warmer' to the touch.
In the most supreme irony, my screen has picked up a couple of small scratches. Lol. No clue where from either, it hasn't been dropped or mistreated.
Seems a screen protector is in order.

That's bizarre, especially considering your little corner-of-the-screen test!
Saw in the Youtube the other day, the guy tried to scratch the screen using a small knife, not even a trace. Decided to remove mine and I'm been without it for 2 months now.. NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH! Now I know why HD2 costs so much! (to me at least)
Try it guys.. the screen without the screen protector looks much cooler, and no.. this is not a scamm... (you can always check your camera screen, I bet it's scrathless aint it?)
Agree, don't have ANY scratch after 4 months of heavy use without any screenprotector. Never had something that good before.
yea, sure its scratchless, i never understood why ppl are using ugly screenprotectors.. just to waste money?^.^
i use my hd2 7 months now and i got only onnnneeeee little scratch that nobody can see ^^
I’ve had mine 7 months and yes no scratches on my screen for me! But DON'T try to see if the camera glass/plastic can be scratched because it can!!!
I accidently caught by metal back cover on the camera bit when resetting the phone and have a nasty scratch on that rear glass! luckily it wasn’t in front of the lens so it doesn’t spoil the camera!
i have mine for 6 monthes with out scratches nither the casing nor the screen ,the best build quality phone i have ever seen msa
yeah been using mine since december of last year and not a single scratch on mine. Got another one, for work use, a few months back and it is also still just perfect.
But i have found out that the egde around the camera can really scratch another phone up, so dont have two phones in your pocket hehe
There are people that have reported scratches - me being one of them. The scratched area on mine is only visible after running your finger over it, and it disappears when you wipe it. So I wiped it clean and applied a screen protector. Now I never see it, and you can't see the screen protector either as I spent proper money on one and got the best screen protector I've ever had. (HD2 deserves the best )

after only a week my desk is show camera housing damage but i bet the screen won't stand up to having a pc dragged across it. that happened to my touch diamond while i was at work and it made it a pain to use the stylus with
have a half cm sratch on the top left of the screen after a couple of weeks use
was pissed off as watched that youtube vid.
now have screen protector and several months later am happy as larry.
not as much of a fingerprint magnet with the screen protector.
GG
Anything that is HARDER than the HD2's tempered glass in its screen will scratch it, period. It is not scratch-proof.
The Moh's scale lists glass as 5.5. Anything higher on the scale will scratch the screen. Incidentally, a knife blade also has a hardness of 5.5. Since they are the same, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the knife had no effect on the glass.
If you use a steel file or quartz or topaz it will scratch the screen within seconds. A diamond ring would scratch it horrendously.
Agree, HD 2 looks coolest w/o Screen Protector but when it comes to WORK with it in bright sunlight You BADLY need an antireflective Screenprotector. So I have it always with screenprotector (Folix). Looks cool though with THIS one.
The rest ist simple physics: everything harder than the tempered glass on Mohs' scale will scratch, everything less harder not. Thus keep the HD2 away from diamond rings
I want my next device to have a diamond screen
No really, I was tempted to use the device without a screenprotector, yet I couldn't stand the chances, and bought some. On the other side, I cannot stand to spend up to 10USD on a foil of transparent plastic, so I went (as I always did in the past with my previous devices) with the cheapo packs, and the do work, even if it's a royal pain to apply them without bubbles, the thinnest they are and the harder it is.
Its hard to scratch, but not impossible...
My screens got 2 scratches on now.-
Be concerned about the sand, then. Depending on its kind, it can have 6-7 in the Mohs hardness scale...
you are all wrong about the screen...if you sit home with your phone in hand of course won't scratch.but how about working in construction like me!? i'm sure phone display will die in 2 weeks and for sure screen protectors are very use full. what you guys think?
Best solution would be a sapphire screen but I guess the HD2 would cost 200€ more then.

What screen protector do you have?
i got a scratch...no such thing as a scratchless sceen...only had mine for about 2 months wtf
You'd be surprised how many everyday things will scratch the screen. People think glass is so hardy and resilient but the only reason our every-day windows aren't scratched up is because we actually don't use them as surfaces and their stationary use isn't really susceptible to damage.
I know I have a couple of things in my house that could scratch my HD2 screen, and I can also imagine those couple of things coming within reach of the screen.
It can get scratches, definitely. My friend got a scratch only with his credit card. Why dont u guys buy a crystal clear screen protector, so it doesnt affect the display of our super phone? I paid £10 for Martin Fields one and Im very impressed of how clear it is
There was a video arround with someone abusing his HD2 by trying to scratch his HD2 screen with all sorts of things... the result was that it does not scratch....
than, how come I have to little scratches on my HD2?... all I do it's keeping it in it's own pocket with nothing else... but still I got the little scratches... maybe I touched it with something.... but still considering the abuse in the above mentioned video I don't see how it could happend this...
So, after all.... how scratch resistant is the HD2's screen?
There are plenty of threads for this topic already. Nevertheless it is just scratch RESISTANT, not scratch PROOF. So it can scratch. It only takes f.e. the right kind of sand grains in your pocket. Those can be pretty hard, harder than the glass of your HD2. There are many things harder than a hardened glass panel.
Use a screen protector. It also helps you to have less fingerprint smearing on your shiny display.
discussed already, as long as you abuse it with materials less hard than tempered glass it's not going to be damaged, but particles of terrain or sand or any other material that for any reason ends in your pockets and is harder than tempered glass will scratch the display.
Only diamond is truly unscratchable, other than with another diamond or a laser beam
Yes they will scratch!
I had to stop carrying loose diamonds in my pocket.

Yeah, those videos are biased towards protecting the HD2 from scratches.
The video of the guy scratching the CD case showed that he applied a ton of force to the case to get it to scratch. Then when he tried scratching the HD2, he applied a lighter amount of force; he was scared of breaking or scratching the HD2.
ok.. the thing is... either use a screen protector either take good care of your screen.. like extra care...
why anybody would think the screen is scratch proof is beyond me.....
I never paid attention to my phones. All of they got small scratches on the screen after a few days, and some scratches on the paint a few hours after buying it. My HD2 is still bright and shiny without any scratches. I like it. This phone is Trudi proof
I'm a tool.
The only mark my phone has picked up in the last 6 months is a small dent in the edge right next to the screen halfway up on the right hand side. Which was a result of me walking into a fridge
I've never used a screen protector and the screen is still as sleek and smooth as it was out of the box. I'm not claiming it is scratchproof but it must be very resillient.
I was really really really really lucky not to smash the screen because the actual casing of the phone is solid and it must have taken a hell of a knock to dent it.Needless to say the hand covers the phone everytime I walk past that fridge now.
Is it Gorilla?
Any scratches yet without protector?
Is there really a need for screen protector?
Has your x5 taken a fall and the screen did not crack?
Can you tell me what your experience has been like?
no scratch with no screen protector..
and never fell so cant tell if there will be crack after falling..
The screen is very strong. It's been riding around in my pocket and bag for over a month and not a scratch. I have dropped it several times quite badly (I have dented the chrome strip around the edge ) and the screen is fine. I have dropped it other times, it has landed on one of the legs of a computer chair directly on the screen and no damage.
I can also say the screen is very strong, I've dropped it numerous times by accident onto concrete and tiles and now theres only a little dent around the chrome strip, which is better than cracked screen.
Just beware having your keys and phone in same pocket will scratch the screen a little bit, but not a massive amount which also surprised me.
Thank you much.
My guess is that it is not Gorilla because keys in same pocket can scratch.
can some one confirm is it gorilla ?

There's NO mention anywhere of a gorilla glass display on that model so that would be a 99,999% NO. It is however really hard to scratch (although i do prefer to invest the less that 3$ it costs to order a pack of screen protectors from ebay)
I've had mine naked for about a month now (screen protecter peeled D but in saying that, no scratches, not even light ones. Im quite careful with it but the main thing is that you don't put it in the same pocket as your keys.
I do put it with my car key (same pocket) but I make sure that the key does not hit the phone.. although sometimes while walking it does move around.. had it over a week, so far so good.. still waiting on my hard case and screen protector from ebay
I have used screen protector since day one. The default one which was pre-installed on the phone lasted couple days and then it was naked for few hours til I bought screen protector. Protector is always good, and don't cost much.
In the first couple of weeks i had the phone without a screen protector and condom it was a VERY durable and flexible but impossible to break or even scratch.
The screen is exceptionally strong.
Sure the build quality overall is nowhere near the phones it took 'inspiration' from (especially a weak back cover, usually a weak point in most, if not all mobiles) but in its simplicity its quite ergonomic and surprisingly strong little phone.
I have used this Insmat screen protector for few weeks and it's really good. Why not to use a protector?
Seems really strong. Until my screen protector arrived from ebay, It didnt get any scratches from coins, keys and falling to the floor.
Anyone else have an issue with how easily the screen scratches. After a week my screen is completely covered in scratches. I never dropped or had keys in the same pocket as the phone. I thought GG4 should have prevented this. It is hard to use the phone now with all of the scratches. It is very distracting.
Zero scratches on mine, no screen protector (yet, on order) and do carry it in my front pocket.
No scratches on mine yet either. Only things that will scratch this screen are things that are harder, i.e. sand, some metal, diamonds. I know its too late now but I would suggest you turn your pockets inside out when you (or your laundress) does your wash. Sounds like you have some contaminates there.
maybe sand from beach? it can have quartz in it.
There are definitely no contaminates in my pocket. This phone scratches way easier than any other phone I have had. Funny I though the aluminium body is were I would have to worry, but nope, not a mark on the body. The glass on the other hand is badly scratched up.
Shame Nexus Protect doesn't cover these type of issues.
Spontaneous scratches? So you just woke up one morning and your screen was so scratched that you can't use the phone? Do you live in Area 51? I love to see a picture of that taken with your iPhone.
I never said they spontaneously showed up one morning. But the screen isn't as hard as people are claiming. I never had an issue with N5 and scratches, and now this screen is covered in them after only a week.
To be clear the phone is physically still very much usable. These are very superficial scratches only visible when the phone is dim and at specific angles. But it is very annoying when you see them.
The glass is gorilla glass 4.
It's harder than any gorilla glass that came before it.
Dems the facts...
I don't know what scratched your glass, but it isn't the glass's fault...
not a single scratch here
do u live close to the coast? have sand on ur pockets? Sand(silica) can be harder than glass and cause scratches
Mine uncovered for almost a week while I wait for screen protection.
No scratches.
I'm with GSMan201; I've had the 6p for about a month and after a week had multiple small scratches on the top of the screen near the speaker, and now I'm noticing more small scratches appearing on other parts of the screen. As previously mentioned, they aren't major scratches by any means and can only be seen with the screen off and phone held at certain angles. However, it's quite disconcerting as I had both the nexus 4 and nexus 5 and neither seemed to scratch as easily as this phone...... I should also mention scratches occurred when the phone was naked as well as with a wallet style case that covers the screen, and to my knowledge has never been in contact with materials that would have scratched it. On a positive note, it's the only disappointment I've had with the phone so far.
I've looked mine over closely and no scratches on the screen area at all. No case on the device, carried in a belt holder and no screen protector.
I've got a small scratch near my front-facing camera. It's just a matter of time before everyone's glass scratches, so be sure to get screen protectors.
It seems that these threads pop up for every popular phone. You should buy a screen protector based on whether you care if you're screen is scratched, not whether you think it will scratch or not. There's really no reason not to buy one now that glass screen protectors have gotten so cheap, even cheaper than the nicer plastic ones were just a few years ago.

I would bet that the coating on the screen is scratched and not the actual glass. Only takes a grain of sand or dirt in the pocket. These scratches don't distort the pixels so are only visible at certain angles and in direct light. I noticed (after wearing the same pair of jeans for a few days in a row ) that a few showed up on my 6P so I bought a TGSP. Gets a little cloudier in direct light than the naked screen but it's worth it for peace of mind. I've had these on every screen I've ever owned to some degree including iPhone 4s, 5s, 6 and... DINC!
anyone with diamond stub earrings?
Same here, three scratches, after less than a month, including a long one (and disturbing on white content) in the middle. All scratches are horizontal. I guess it's not Gorilla Glass 4... I still prefer this over a broken screen though, but it's not that pleasant

I am the diamond.
Phone screens always find a way to get scratched. No matter what the glass is, expect it to scratch. End of
