On my Android phone contact list I've noticed several interspersed contact names are followed by very long, capitalized strings of random text and numbers usually starting with "BgYGB..." I noticed it after a contacts import. If I attempt to edit any such contact via the stock contacts app in order to remove the offending text, it simply does not appear in the edit boxes to delete it yet it's visible in the top heading area of the contact's page. Has anyone else experienced this and how have you recovered from it? Once I was able to remove the garbled text manually using Go Contacts EX going to each affected contact one by one, but I'm hoping someone has a better solution. I am running Android 4.4.2 on a stock, rooted Samsung Galaxy S4 from Sprint.

I tried searching thorugh the xda forums for an original HTC Home Plugin thread, but couldn't locate one, so i'll start here and maybe someone can forward me to the right place.
I have contacts in my contact list that just have a Company name, and not a first or last name.
The problem is that these contacts cannot be added to the quick dial area of the HTC Home Plugin, it will allow you to select it, but it doesn't show up, and you are unable to click that entry to dial the number. However, if you go edit that contact and add a first / last name, then it magically shows up on the quick dial.
Does anyone know of a bug fix / workaround for getting contacts with just a company name to show up? (And please don't say add a first / last name, that's obviously a solution, but not a fix.)
Any way to also have the phone number displayed on the screen as well when selecting a contact?
If you have multiple numbers on a contact, it just lists the contact 3 times.
J.D.
put the company name in the name field and then change file as: to the company name and it won't change it to look like a name
Something is up with my contacts. If I search for some people I'll get the result and see their number under their name. When I tap the name the contact opens but no phone number is listed, just all the other contact items.
For the contacts this happens to I can only call them from the diaper contacts list with the green phone icon. Even then it's random as to what number it calls if they have more than one.
Anyone else seen this behavior and/or know of a fix?
Apparently, you're not the only one with the problem. I guess it's the new blur thing. For example, my girlfriend's info, I can see everything but her phone #'s under "Contacts", without the green call icon. As far as it being random to what # it calls... I haven't had that problem... I do understand your frustration with it though but nothing's major with your phone, it's just a stupid perk moto made.
Thanks for the feedback. At least I'm not going to do a factory reset now to try and fix it. I'll just hold tight for an update and or a cool rom.
I've noticed that it happens on contacts that have facebook accounts attached. Deleting your facebook account from "my accounts" might fix it, I haven't tried. If you go to the contacts list under the phone program it will allow you to access the numbers.
This is a really strange problem and I'm hoping someone can help me with it.
For some reason on my Treo Pro, there is this one specific random phone number which, although I can add it to a new or existing contact and it will show up correctly under that person in the Contacts app, does not seem to be recognized, remembered or associated throughout the rest of the phone.
Meaning, if I get an incoming call from that number it shows up as an unknown caller, displaying the number but no associated contact name. If I check my call log the number shows up there, rather than the contact name. Also in text messages, it just shows as the number by itself, again rather than the contact name to which it belongs. If I tap on that number in the SMS dialog, it tells me "This person is not in your contact list..." and asks me if I want to add them. And whether I add that number to an existing contact or create a new one for it, nothing changes. If I tap the number again, it still tells me it is not in my contact list. Over, and over, and over again. It just will not "stick" or take, permanently.
There is nothing odd about the actual number itself. It's the exact same format as all the other numbers in my contacts (1-416-xxx-xxxx). And I've tried adding the number in every possible way, with and without area code, '+' sign, '1' in front etc.. nothing makes a difference. I've rebooted the phone after adding it, and still no effect. It just will not recognize this phone number as belonging to a contact, even though under the contact it appears correctly, and I can call or text it from the contacts app.
Is there any reason this would be happening, or any way to fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks...
I have the same frustrating problem on my Treo Pro - contact names do not display even though they are saved to phone memory. The only solution I have found is to delete the contact and create a new one e.g. from the number that appears in call log or SMS. I presume the reason is Sprite Backup doing somethig wrong with the databases when restoring contacts after hard reset.
Hi guys
Has anyone noticed that when searching for a contact (T9 search) in samsung stock dialer, the search function it only lists the first number for a contact if they have more than 1 applied to their card. Problem is you can't view other numbers, it just immediately starts dialing that one number instead if you try to select it ( there is no way to select and see the other numbers)
I have contact with 3-4 numbers so its annoying me. I know there is Dialer One, Go contacts etc but none of them have the clean interface the stock dialer has .
If you click the contact photo it shows all the numbers.
At least my one does....
I'd hate to bring up an old thread, but I used the magical search button and found this thread.
I have this problem, too, and it's really annoying.
Pressing the contact photo doesn't bring up the rest of the numbers for me.
If it helps, my contacts are synced via my google account, and I have a feeling this doesn't happen for contacts locally stored on the phone.
Does anybody have a solution for this?
I'm currently using a different dialer, but I'd prefer to stick to Samsung's dialer if possible.
Maybe I'm just going mad, but after a full reset, I think I'm missing some functionality in the Dialer.
If I pull up the Dialer, and start using T9-like search, e.g. search for "John" by dialing 5646, then the drop down list will pull up all the Contact called "John" (or that match other letters on those keys), or have "5646" in their number. If you click the down arrow/count, then the list is popped up.
Each Contact has their "default" number listed (if the default is not explicitly set on the contact, I think it uses the first/only number defined).
If you wanted to use a number other than the default, I was pretty sure that you could tap the thumbnail image to show the alternative numbers, and select from there, but this isn't working for me. Tapping the area other than the image selects the default number, but tapping the image has no effect.
Does anybody know how to get the Dialer to show the list of alternative numbers? Is it a setting/permission that I'm missing?
Anybody else having this problem, or can think of a solution?
If there a multiple numbers then i see them all listed when i click on the contact and then i select the one number i want. It was always listing them all, don't recall changing a setting
Thanks for the response - that's how I remember it working, but I can't imagine what I've done to stop if functioning like that.
I have the same problem on N910C 6.0.1. Does anyone have the solution?
P.S. I disabled all keyboards except the SwiftKey, disabled voice input and S voice. And removed S find from the notification dropdown by cuting the "com.sec.feature.findo.xml": https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/root-how-to-remove-s-finder-quick-t3161432
I dont know if that broke the dialer search, but i returned that last file and it didnt help (S find was back).
