Verizon did not dump The Nexus One, Google getting out of the Phone Sales Business

Found this on another board and thought it was worth sharing:

Does not look like any more phones are going to come directly from Google, however, I am still VERY happy with my Nexus One!!

Ill reserve my judegement for an official announcement, I dont see anything that indicates google is done with phones.

They are definitely not done with phones. They will continue to develop the software, and might just pull out of the "hardware" business and leave that to HTC.

well the only thing confirmed in the article is that Verizon did not cancel the phone. Google did.
Rest is pure speculation of the blogger. If Google wanted to quit completely... why did they launch the at&t version?
Phones for verizon and Sprint (CDMA etc) are not as straight forward as for T-Mobile and At&T (GSM). The phones have to be locked to verizon and sprint.. they are always at the mercy of the provider. GSM are standard based and all you need is SIM card to move from one service to other. You are not tied to a carrier.
Anyways... I will avoid speculating further myself...There are just way too many things going on in the corporate world.
Just be assured... Google has shares in the market... they will have to release a press release and give good reason to cancel phone business as the phone business was in black. They can't cancel any profitable business without explaining it to investors.

The nexus one is profitable to google? At&t version shouldn't be too hard since it's gsm like T-Mobile. Maybe they just decided they don't want to make a cdma phone since gsm is the standard around the world anyway.

What google wants to do can't be done with the two biggest cell phone companies because it's a closed ecosystem.

Not one sentence of that is from a public/official source. Google on the other hand has said publicly that they are making money, they are happy with what they were getting out of it, they plan to stay in it for the long haul. Hmmmm.

I actually like that the nexus has poor sales.... Its a great phone than no one bought (mostly due to zero marketing and lack of tech support) so it gives it a sense of exclusivity. Usually to get such exclusivity you have to buy a crappy phone or a really overpriced one. and google is not hurting financially... this was more of a science project for them
Its quite different from when I had my iphone... I remember I would be out on a dinner and when the “apple ringtone” went off, 10 people would bust out their iphones, no people contantly ask me what phone i have

Google should have put a Beta tag on google.com/phone.
Then no one would have complained about the low sales and it would be clear that this is just them getting their feet wet.
Put it this way: the next phone Google sells on their website, you can be guaranteed that sales (and off-line advertising) will be much higher.

omg, we are too exclusive now.
no one will have brand new google phone anymore.

I went to google.com/phone and I didn't see anything about this on there. Is this news offical? I'm 24 more days away from ordering my Nexus One and I was hoping to have it delivered to my house and such. Damn, I wanted to get my phone engraved too.

I still don't see a timetable in either of those two links. It might be better if I went over to t-mobile store and picked one up.. that way I could see if "dust is under the screen" or some sorta damage on it... idk..
Looks as though they will still sell it online and in stores and eventually they will do away with online all together.

Yep they just "announced" it. No specific date on when they'r pulling the plug on the online store.

I said before launch...I hope its a phone that everyone wants but few have.
Few have it..it IS unique...but noone knows wth it is and just assume its some stupid iphone.
Only cel store folks have had any clue of what it is.

Im assuming you wear fruit of the loom shirts , lee jeans , walmart sneakers ,no belt , a blank cap , drive a GM vehicle , and use plain black stock headphones.
Some people like to things because they are unique. Some people dont enjoy looking or using the same exact thing or way that everyone else does.

Verizon Store has display models

I checked it out at my local corporate store, it was just the red and black 32g models . I had to test out the camera since no one is saying anything about the clarity of it.. And I must say its pretty good. Better then my nexus 5 and all the prior moto x and droid lineup

Both stores I went to, didn't even get their shipment yet and had no information of the trade in promo or nothing.. Smh I guess its just a go with the flow release

Ya know, for not liking this phone much you sure watch it's updates and post a lot here. What's the deal? You getting one?
Anyways, how good did the display look with all that rez? Good color? Nice and clear?

I thought it was pretty good, I only navigated through the menus and the camera and its mostly dark colors throughout the menus. But it was pretty good in my eyes .Only problem with the 32g is that they look and feel so much like the other droids

did you get a chance to check out one of the ballistic nylon ones? that's what I'm going with if i pull the trigger.

I saw all three at my local store a couple of nights ago. The moron that made the display tags for them labelled them all "16GB $179.99 on a two year contract". The person that greeted me at the door didn't even know that they were in the store. Inspiring.

It feels softer/less slick than most ballistic nylon that I've handled. Also snagged all of the microscopic burs on my skin, like a microfiber cloth. Caused a "nails on a chalkboard" sensation. I'm set on the 64GB though so I'll have to live with it.

Thats discouraging. I'll have to feel it out a bit, I could see that getting annoying. I'll probably end up buying that one anyway, cuz I reeaaally don't like the kevlar look anymore. It was cool when they first started doing it with the OG Razr and such, but now it just seems tacky and dated.

I've never seen the Kevlar phones of the past, but I thought it looks very good on turbo... Extremely well built. I did like the feeling of the fiberglass phones better on my hand, but will opt for the Kevlar for personal use. I actually like the looks of the Kevlar more than the moto leather or wood.

Curious if it would get any better with time once it's "broken in". I feel like it would be annoying, but it could also smooth out the fibers as you handle it.

Went to the VZW store in the skyway (pretty small store) and they only have the MGF models out on the floor. Might hit the store near home after work and see if they have the nylon out. I liked what I saw, though. A bit bigger than I imagined, but I liked the 2 minutes I spent with it.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Pictures - Big Logo - Bloatware

Was hoping that Verizon would leave their fat logo off the back, no such luck. Here's a couple pictures of the Verizon demo showing the Logo and Bloatware installed.
I did purchase the Otterbox Commuter & Defender cases while I was there.
Long wait until the 17th for me.

F*&#ing Verizon. How the F*&# does Apple convince Verizon not to use its ugly-ass logo on the iPhone 6, but Samsung cannot. What a crock of [email protected]&#. I hope we can buff it off somehow with a sugar cube or whatever we are doing now.

That logo is in the glass like the Galaxy S6 wording and is not going to buff off.

The Verizon Black Looked Black, not Blue like the Best Buy demos.
I twisted it at every angle and could not see the Blue that was prevalent in the Best Buy models.

Probably because Apple has a lot more clout than Android OEMs and it may be one of the requirements they have if a carrier is going to be selling their devices.

I wonder if it's really that, or if it's just a straight up business negotiation. Maybe Verizon pays to have the phone branded. Perhaps they paid out the ass when they put the VZW logo on the home button on the Note 2, they pay less when its ordinary back-of-phone branding, and they pay nothing when they get no logo. Maybe Apple just said, nah, we don't need the extra revenue.

Could have been just the lighting in that store.

Verizon needs to step up their logo game...

There is no way Verizon changed the color of the phone. That is just crazy talk....settle down people. Same color as the T-Mobile, AT&T, and every other carrier out there. Do I like the 3 levels of rear branding...hell no....but I can live with it. I do think Verizon needs to reconsider the 4G LTE third row though, there is absolutely no need for that.

Sprint HTC 10 - Carbon Grey

At this point I have exhausted all options. I have contacted every possible department with Sprint to try and confirm if they will be carrying the Carbon Grey. I do not understand how a company has no idea if they will be carrying a specific color. I want to grab the phone, and have been holding out on ordering as I want to see if the Carbon Grey is coming. If it isn't, I would just go and get the glacier silver, but if the carbon grey is on the way then I will wait. Anyone have any information if they will in fact have it eventually?

Probably will be in a few months after sales start to decline for the glacial silver. No source, just thinking from their perspective

Well that stinks! If that is the case I may just run out and grab it then. So disappointed that this cannot be confirmed by anyone at Sprint. I will be so mad if I buy this phone and 2 days later they announce carbon grey!!!

TMo will only have silver as well, so the only way to get a carbon gray in the US in the foreseeable future is to buy the unlocked one from HTC.

I chatted with HTC and t-mobile. T-mobile said they will be carrying all 3 colors when it launches tomorrow on May 18th. Take it with a grain of salt though as I am sure no one has any idea. HTC said when more stock is available of the gray, they will open it up to more sales locations. As you can see on HTC's website, the unlocked gray is backordered.

One thing you may want to consider if you're going to use a case for your phone, you won't be able to see the color of the phone for as long as you have the case on unless you get a clear case. I waited to get the Harman kardon edition of the m8 and for the first months it was cool but after that I never took it out of the case so color really didn't matter. Just my experience, you don't have to agree.

That's all I am waiting for as well. As soon as the carbon gray comes out on Sprint, I will be upgrading.

I saw that yesterday as well. I have no problem buying it from them if they are going to offer it first.

Silver only...really??

I hate silver phones, always have. Anyone I have ever seen just reminds me of a cheap child's toy. And now that I decided to pull the trigger, the unlocked grey one is sold out for now. Come on Verizon, get with the program and offer some more variety!

Just buy the unlocked US version and flash the Verizon RUU on it. gg

The nice part is the black front. Pop a case or a skin on it and you can't even tell it's silver. It's actually not too bad looking, and I agree that I *hate* white/silver phones.

Just check swappa. At least 2-3 show up on there every day. It's pretty easy to get a hold of one.

What I hate more is a black phone that shows every little nick and mark through the finish and you can't even remember how they got there in the first place. No issue with silver at all with this model as its face it black. Put it in a black TPU case such as the Diztronic or the $20 silicone version sold at Verizon stores. Problem solved.
