Samsung Galaxy S2 w/ NFC Indian Version Quick Review (UPDATE: No NFC [for now])

I finally got my SGS2 and its awesome!

I won't go into reviews and stuffs thats already been reviewed and said over 100 times.
I'll just jot down whatever the Indian version has different from its other brothers.
1. So apparently the Indian version ships with a Samsung Leather Case (as seen in the pic below among other standard accessories) :

2. The Indian version seems to come pre-installed with the XWKE8 update. Correct me if wrong but afaik XWKE7 is the latest.

3. The NFC was so far the highlight feature but I'm still not able to find any mention of it anywhere. If our XDA Korean members can help me find out, that'd be great!
A test with an Application called ZDevice Test was unable to detect the presence of a NFC Chip.
4. Contrary to rumors I didn't find any 8Gb SD Card preinstalled.
5. No Music Hub.
I'll post more as and when I find any differences.

Ok so I'm pretty sure (according to all comments) the Indian version DOES NOT have NFC. Samsung India gave us false dreams and broke our hearts!

Ok I've done some initial tests with the battery and there are 2 scenarios:
1. (Yesterday) 1am to 10am (on Standby) : AirPlane Mode On : Battery Drain just 4% (from 60% to 56%)
2. (Today) 3am to 10am (on Standby) : Power Save Mode On : Battery Drain 26% (from 30% to 4%)
So inshort the Android System battery bug exists. Here's a screenshot of the battery tool for usage from 1pm June 3 to 10 am June 4 :

According to Letsbuy, the official retail partner for selling the SGS2 in India, NFC will be activated in the Future Ice Cream Sandwich update.

According to this article. NFC Sensor is embedded onto the body in SGS2 as opposed to the backpanel in Nexus S.
So we still might stand a chance with Indian SGS2's having NFC.

Looks like this is a global issue and every SGS2 produced so far will have it.
But let me add that this is in no way a major issue.
With normal phone usage I bet it's impossible (if at all) to notice.
I assure you, any normal user, if not told about this yellow tint will not even come to know. Its that unnoticeable!

Yeah, I agree, looks like it's very minor in most of the cases reported here.
Hope you don't have any of the other possible defects being mentioned here.

Maybe you're not able to see it(which is a blessing in disguise!).
People here are yet to see a picture of a screen without that issue although the severity seems to vary.

Do you have the Pink Camera Spot problem?
And I don't think the i9100 will have NFC unfortunately, only the i9101.

Can you post a pic of the backplate and battery?.. Then I can figure out (I've developed on NFC hardware earlier in my Job) if the NFC Antenna are there. Please do.

I've posted a pic of the back. There's a tiny sensor which looks like the NFC sensor to me.
The back cover however, is all plastic and there's no mark or anything like that on the plastic back.

Ohh well. Then I'm afraid the Indian version too doesn't have NFC.

Is not having NFC a big issue? Would those NFC stickers be inferior in any way?
BTW just to confirm, are there any other known differences in the version being sold in India (I9100) and elsewhere(I9101 and I9103 etc)? I am planning to get it here in India.

A Nuukey bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone; I had seen one of these before online and thought if it could be some way retrofitted onto another phone. It was a
pretty lucky find in that I was able to inspect it hands on. I thought since I had blown all my money anyways, so why not try it. Here is what I have so far:

Pretty cool! Why can't they start making stuff like that more ofen for androids? I guess they change so much. Hopefully they stick with the design for the atrix for the next few years and there will be more of a market for our phones.

It's the one thing that I'm missing from my old HTC 8125 and 8525.
Ugh playing roms on those things was infinitely more fun when I had buttons to press.
Edit: Also, if anyone stumbles upon a keyboard that connects via usb rather than over Bluetooth, please share.

Youtube vid shows it on, slight modification necessary however. Definitely think I might do this once I have some money.

I think a USB keyboard in this form factor would be fantastic, less battery consumer, and it shouldn't be so hard with the USB-host support, I'm right?

I kind of like this idea, plus then you could use it in places where bluetooth might be prohibited. Also makes your phone less open having bluetooth off.

i bought one for $70 for my iphone 4 but gave it away to my brother since I ditched the crapple for the atrix..never thought to keep it for the atrix..wish I did!

Well it's been two days and there is some bad news after sliding it back and forth the springs gave out and there is too much pressure being put on the slide plate causing it to bend. I'm going to have to modify how its mounted before releasing instructions; I dont want anyone wasting their time or money.

U8 Smart Watch Clone

its a U8 Smart Watch Bluetooth International its has on it a sleep monitor and all the other stuff that comes with the U8..
I flashed it with all of the firmware on the U8 thread and now it boots with a tune and a white screen,any help would be great right now.
I know now its a clone...;(
If you open it up,it has SH08_MB_V2.0 on the board under the speaker and MEDITEK ARM MT 6260DA chip.
If you have a picture of the board post it.
The more people know about this the better..
You have the right for a replacement or your money back cos its not real and they are selling it as it is.so contact the seller if you got it from ebay,I took mine apart and put it back together and still got a replacement.

to me happened the same, tried all firmweres I found on the net and despite they installed the only difference was the music of the on and off were different as firmwere.
I think my phone is a fake version or a new hardware and the firmwere of the real U8 is different.

If you have one of these post about it here,the way you know its a clone is it don't have a About page.

3 weeks ago I have also bought one of these, not knowing it was a clone. It has only 3 pages, no stopwatch, no about page, but outside it looks the same.

I bought a smartwatch U8 from ebay, but I flashed with the last firmware as I tought is U8, looks like is not , I have white screen and with a tune . It was very strange as the about option in settings was missing. I know for sure now that it is a clone.
Any help would be appricietted.

I flashed mine and it didn't work just a white screen,so I contacted the seller on ebay and i sent it back and got a new one yesterday so if this has happen to you send it back for a replacement you have the right to cos its a clone.

Found all the flashtools, but can't get the usb drivers to work. anyone have them still?

U can try looking for "driver u8 flashtool"; between the results you can find a link for geekbuying and in the page there is the mediafire's link to the file.

All Nexus devices have received fantastic dev support, I don't see why this would be any different.

Maybe not a noob question but looking at the past and devices with a sd810, what do you think... did Huawei solve te heat issue with their nexus phone? That is my biggest concern about it and camera hump will easy get cover by case, hopefully

we wont be getting any answer until users will have this device in their own hands...
this is same story as the oneplus 2... they say its not gonna heat because of the lower core power combo with the sd810 but some users still experienced heat issues after using the device for some time...
so possible that the answer would ,, yes theres still heating up , or no its cool now...
so again we have to wait for the real world experience...

Will the USB Type C cable that comes with the phone work with my old USB chargers, external batteries, etc? Is the connection that doesn't plug into the phone a regular USB connection that will plug into my computer? I haven't been keeping up with the USB Type C stuff..

Your old USB chargers should work; the underlying USB standard's backward's compatible so it shouldn't have any problem drawing power from older USB chargers that supply the necessary voltage to the device. I have a OnePlus 2 and I'm able to use the accompanying cable with a variety of chargers.

any word on a CAT 6 modem for carrier aggregation ( especially on sprint/Fi)

Just making sure, the phone works with Verizon, right? I know it has all the correct bands. I'll just pop in my SIM and be good to go?

So I have a concern regarding the 810 V2.1
I have the OPT right now and I'm returning it
I noticed that the 6P has down clocked it as well from 2.0 to 1.8, the OPT definitely throttles when you game for a while and gaming tests have shown this how the phone starts lagging.
Even when you run benchmarks continuously the scores keep going down.
Is this something we should be concerned about? Or is the following happening with the OPT because of how they have configured their OS plus the OPT definitely gets hot when playing games on it for a while.

Will verizon carry this phone and if so will they lock it down like they've done to most of the Samsung devices

None of the US carriers are carrying the device. I just want to know if we can use it on Verizon at all. It supports all of their radio bands.

I've read that even with the open source hardware driver binaries, the nexus devices still typically suffer from issues with custom ROM's like certain features not working. Is this true, and if so why?
I love this phone and I'm looking forward to getting a CM or custom CM based ROM with theme support to make the OS look cool. Personally I find plain Android to be ugly. Better functionally wise but ugly, so a CM based ROM on the Nexus 6P with Project Fi service seems like the best of all available worlds.

I watched the Nexus event live and also it has been confirmed on numerous sites, this will definitely work on Verizon's network, as long as you have a nano sim for Verizon.
I heard of issues with the Moto X where you had to call customer service with your phone info, but even if this phone has the same issues, bottom line is it will work.

Ok when they say "The camera has the largest pixel of any smart phone." Are they referring to the camera sensor itself? I've never heard of a camera component be referred to as a pixel
Either way, I can't wait to get my hands on the 240 fps goodness.

ZTE Axon 7 Enhanced... what are your thoughts?

Not a lot of chatter here on the Enhanced model (6gb RAM), wanted to get your thoughts:
1. Has anyone bought the phone? Is it worth the extra RAM, ROM, and Force Touch? It still has no lit up Capacitive keys, right?
2. Is there a way to Unlock the bootloader and Root it? And more importantly, is there a way to RE-LOCK the bootloader and Unroot the phone?

I've actually got it. I must say it is worth it. Though it only comes in gold and would have liked the silver,but other than that it's awesome.

Same as the other models.

Okay. This model, despite the hideous gold color, seems to meet all of my needs. bootloader unlockable, verizon compatible (i already have an activated nano sim and i know to allow roaming), and 6 gb RAM/128GB ROM. So the only question/hesitation i have left is: Will all of the android development for the Axon 7 still work for this model considering the RAM and storage are different? if so, this is my perfect phone. anyone running custom roms on the 128/6? if so, is it the same as the 64/4? thank you all!

Guys - Thank you for all the responses! XDA notifications are not quite working right for me, otherwise I would have responded quicker.
Couple of follow up questions:
1. Why is the 6gb model worth it, you think? Do you guys have real world examples? (despite the Gold color )
2. For the ones that did the rooting, unlocking the BL, TWRP and etc, can you please link the guides you used?

4. The Enhanced model does NOT have the backlit capacitive keys, correct? :'(
5. Any tips you guys compiled for taking the best shots with the phone? Maybe in manual mode? To compensate for the poor camera quality on the phone?
