Hi,
The file kjrnl.nb was seeking root access from SuperSU today. I granted it and it proceeded to make changes to iptables. Anyone know what this file is? Upon entering super SU gui I was asked to update the super su binary.

If I were you I would immediately do a full wipe of your system and reflash your rom. Sound like a virus/trojan etc.
If you don't know what it is then DO NOT give it root acces. If you don't know what it is, then you don't need it.
Thanks, it hasn't popes back up. Since my restored nand droid. I've narrowed it down to 20 or so possible apps. When I have more time I may try to pin poi t the app. Wish there was an app I found run in the background that would log in detail.

Hi, have you found the origin of this file? It runs only when I boot the phone (n910c) and I can't find the file kjrnl.nb but it shows running with "busybox ps". It might be something that gets uncompressed realtime during boot. I have always to kill the PID after boot.
Thanks for any insight.

screenshot and a cache cleaner. i do see there's a superuser permission app on my build but when i go to the terminal it says im still not root.
well i did alot of searching today and i don't think you can unlock this as technically we don't have a g1 or hero phone. we are running an image from a sd card. i still wonder how i can get root access to run certain apps? has anybody else addressed this issue because i can't find an answer.

i did, it says permission denied!
well i think what im looking for is to become a superuser to be able to run certain market apps such as screenshot and a cache cleaner. ive searched everywhere here and on ppcgeeks with no luck. i did see something about a script that can allow certain apps at launch to run in superuser mode, is there anything like that at all? sorry if i keep asking but it's bugging me to no end and im sorta stuck. how did you guys get apps to run in root mode? is there a command i need to enter int he terminal? i do know i tried su and it said permission denied for me?
by the way what is the superuser permissions app i see on my build of cupcake? i launch it and it does nothing?

Using adb will always give you root access, for windows you need to install the adb drivers from my site. Remember we are using a read only root filesystem so apps that modify the root fs won't work. su in the ion build will also give you root.
I'm a little confused guys.
I pretty much followed the instructions for part 1 and 2 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12631216&postcount=2911
I flashed my phone back to 1.2.6 then ran the before update script. Then updated, then ran the after update script. I am able to download .apk files and run them without being pestered. But I tried to run boot strap, and nothing would happen when i hit "Recovery boot". I know the gignger blur installation instructions says to make sure I'm plugged in to an AC charger so I did. Didn't work. I plugged it into my car charger. Didn't work. Tried my USB cable connected to the PC for sh*ts and giggles, but still nothing.
So I though maybe my phone isn't rooted properly? I googled a little and found this: http://androidforums.com/32282-post3.html
I installed the terminal app and ran su and it said permission denied. But I think I am able to access /data/app-private (I type in cd /data/app-private and it doesn't do anything so I assume I'm in the app-private directory, no?)
...So I guess I'm just here to ask, am I going in the right direction to check to see if my phone is rooted? Any other way of checking to see if I'm rooted correctly? I'm not exactly looking for the easy way, I'm looking for the correct way.
Any help is appreciated =)
If you are properly rooted, there will be an application called Superuser in your app tray.

I have that app, how come when I su in terminal it denies me permission?
Open up Superuser and make sure it is in your "allow" list.

When I open up superuser it only says "No apps in list" under my Apps tab. And hitting the menu button (the button with the 4 squares) does nothing whenI'm in the Apps tab.
Strange... So when you type "su" in the terminal, does it give you a pop-up to allow superuser access?

Nope, just says "Permission denied"
Try switching usb settings from none to storage then back to none, and also uncheck usb debug and recheck it. I know when I updated my phone to restore root that is what I had to do or I would get premission denied.

Still no luck, I think I might have lost root ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12685034&postcount=3303 )
How do you even loose root?
Yes, you don't have root. I was in a similar situation when I first tried the Mac version of aRoot. There was a bug in the script so I didn't actually get rooted, but it installed superuser anyway so I thought I was. Anything that requires root will simply fail.

How did you fix your problem?
I've rooted my Nexus 4, but I can't seem to block ads. Tried adaway and adfree. Any suggestions?
Try adblock plus as well, maybe that works.

Check to see that the file /etc/hosts actually gets updated when you use adaway/adfree. Also, you need to reboot your phone after you apply the new hosts file.
Same issue here, Used adaway, adfree, none of them seem to work.

No you don't, my ads are always blocked immediately after running ad away even if I don't reboot.

If you don't reboot your phone immediately after using AdBlock or AdFree (I switched from the former to the latter), then you will run into an issue where the Back button doesn't actually take you back in the browser. You have to double click it and mess with it in general.
I didn't know this for a solid 5-6 months when I first rooted my Atrix back in the day and it DROVE ME NUTS.
Anyway, go into Superuser or SuperSU and make sure that you've given AdBlock or AdFree root access. I would maybe even recommend just installing both apps anyway, reinstalling, granting root access, run/apply new hosts file, and then immediately reboot.
adway working just fine, are you sure that you rooted it properly though.

Whether you have to reboot or not depends on cache and DNS. Just because your ads are always blocked, doesn't necessarily mean everyone else doesn't need to reboot.
Adfree works fine for me. Reboot the phone to be safe.

There's some funky stuff going on for me. I checked my hosts file, and it had in fact been updated by Adfree/Adaway/Adblock Plus (I've tried them all troubleshooting this).
Superuser says that they have the appropriate permissions.
I take it that there's multiple methods for rooting, right? I just followed the first walkthrough I found. I'm running the CM10.1 nightly with this issue.
Could someone who has adblocking working describe what method they used for flashing recovery? I'm thinking that there's some sort of problem with my filesystem. One symptom is that I can't figure out where RomManager is storing my backups. It sees them, and they take up space, but they're not in my SDCARD partition.
EDIT: I see that my backups are in /data/media/clockworkmod and the hosts file that is being altered by adblocking software is in /system/etc.

did you get it working?
I am having the same problem
Nexus 4
4.2.1
Unlocked & rooted using 1.3.0 toolkit..
How would I go about permarooting my device. You know. Root without superuser. Run at root level all the time. No bothersome apps. No prompts. Just full access. Anyone? A flashable zip would help.
Cheers in advance.

So just like SuperUser but in binary form?, that can be dangerous since you cannot deny any infected apps which will use SU to overwrite and brick your device also doing worse like wasting your credit, adding more bills to your credit card and much more horrific stuff so you should stay with the App.

You can just set the automatic response in the su app to be "allow", but be careful.
I f you really want not to be bothered by SU requests, disable the notifications and auto-allow every request. Very dangerous, though, as pointed out before
If I helped, hit the thanks button!
Nah. I want exactly what I mentioned in the title. I know how to turn toast off and auto grant access to all sudo requests. What I really want is a handler that by default grants access or a mod that stops me from needing a superuser app. An alternative would be a superuser app that can remember settings and permissions even after a wipe. Thanks
Really? There is no solution for this simple problem? How about a superuser that retains permission settings even after a wipe? Reason i ask is because some of my security apps have to be granted superuser access again after a wipe. This really defeats the purpose of the security application in my eyes.

Nothing you will do will get you what your looking for. This is a flaw in all security apps. A wipe/flash makes then useless. While I am sure it can be done but I have not seen anything here as it is not safe.
Wayne Tech Nexus
I have LG optimus one and Iam try new rom Omnirom beta 7 and beta 7.1. Iam saw ther isnt any superuser app and Iam try flash SuperSU (chainfire) and SuperUser (CloakWorkMod) with cwm recowery 6.4.0.6 and twrp 2.7.0.0.
Now I can run some apps like a total commander with superuser aces, Rom manager, but Iam style not can run titanium backup and lot of more. Sorry my English. Thanks for all reply.
Just FYI it is recommended to run twrp and su. Regarding you question: can you use the functionality that requires root in the apps you mentioned to be working? If not you simply have no su access at all. In case you can run them go into the su UI under settings and see if you can manually grant su permission to TiB and the like. It seems strange to me that super user should only work for some of your apps. I might be wrong though, I'm no expert.
