Hey all, fairly new to these forums, so please move if this is in the wrong area.
I purchased a xperia Z2 with a custom firmware on it, not realizing that it would cause problems with updates.
I would love to be able to remove this custom firmware and just go back to the normal firmware, but I'm unable to find a "remove custom firmware" thread.
Would anyone be able to direct me to a thread detailing so, or perhaps just post how to? I would appreciate both the same.
The only reason I'm wanting to remove it, is because I'm having a few internet problems with this handset, with my previous z1 and the same sim card and provider (Boost AU), I had no internet problems, and always usually was able to receive 3g. Today as an example, I had internet access for about half an hour, and I would like to start diagnosing the handset with bring it back to a "factory state"
Thanks in advance for all the help. If you need any handset information, just ask.

Hi there so I am not new to rooting and flashing roms but not an expert either. I have a Xperia play I got from Verizon(yes horrid verizon) few problems as I can see I cant unlock bootloader, I assume this because in configurations settings there is no root option or even a bootloader unlock yes or no so from what iveread im screwed in that area.
My other problem is and htis is now on 3 phones of xperia play verizon has sent me they all have version of android 2.3.2 and when i try to do the manual update I get this mssg and I have bene trying this on all the ones they sent me and even contacted them with sony on the line and they cant understand why(morons). only solution is to send to them but perhaps someone here can help me. Here is the mssg. it tells me there was an error downloading hte software and it please try again later it has said this for weeks since ive had it everytime i try even after doing a hardreset and this is on all 3 xperia plays they have sent me so it must be something they have done.
Can I still manual update it at least to 2.3.4 using the method from sony and discussed on here using a flashtool x10 but im not sur what version of flash to use since they show like 3 main ones for different types and if so if im using windows what version of flashtool for my xperia play from verizon would i get for my xperia play r800x?
Any ideas and help would be great thanks agian.
You can use the latest one.
Hi talrune,
I'll try to answer some of the questions you posted, but I may be wrong on some things. (If anyone can see anything wrong please feel free to correct me) As far as rooting the device it can be done. It has been awhile since I rooted mine and I cannot remember how I did it. I'm sure a quick google search will pull it up. As far as the bootloader, you can unlock it but you have to pay to have it unlocked. Alejandrissimo was offering this service a while back and I assume he still is. If you would like to get your bootloader unlocked you will have to get in touch with him.
I do not know why you would be having trouble with upgrading to 2.3.4 from Verizon OTA. I am pretty sure however that you cannot use flashtool to install the update without having an unlocked bootloader. Also, the directions from sony are no good. Unless they have changed things they want you to use PC companion or something to download and install the update. This works fine, however, when they ask you to connect the phone they require they phone be connected in MTP mode (I believe) and there is no way to put the R800x into this mode. I called sony and they asked me to go into the system menu and go to the Sony Erriccson tab, but this tab does not exist on the verizon phones (dang verizon!!!)
If you have the money I would strongly suggest getting the bootloader unlocked. It is extremely helpful when Verizon fails in epic fashion. Plus its fun to play around with different roms and kernels. Goodluck
with a locked-bootloader flashtool should work, but fastboot should not.
there a firmware stickied in the Development forum for the VZW R800x
Hello all,
I just inherited a Samsung GT-S5360L phone from my father and i wanted to try some roms. Some of the available roms seem pretty cool, but i have noticed a small detail, my phone model ends with an L, and the roms available dont.
This is probably because my cellphone is a southamerican model. So, My main question is, what should i check before flashing a rom into my S5360L in order to avoid problems?
I am mainly worried about loosing the 3G signal (or the whole phone signal) if i flash an incorrect rom. I read some posts that said that i should use a specic CSC.
Can anyone explain to me a litle more about this? Do i need to flash the ROM and my original CSC files in order for the rom to work with my operators, or the process is different?
Thanks in advance.
Solution!
Sir,
You must have bought your Galaxy Y with some Carrier! That why it end with a "L", But that does not matter! To prevent bricking ur phone just follow the correct installation instruction.. If you brick your GY there is a guide in the general section to restore back! Make a Nandroid Backup first of all and then Flash GT-S5360 Firmware (The one preferred in the Rom's installation guide I hope this helps! As much as I know, all roms will work :fingers-crossed:
Best Regards,

to ensure installation success please download "Galaxy Toolbox" by doky in the playstore and unlock your network (if it is sim/carrier locked)
then follow all instructions provided by the rom authors to ensure success,
if in case all else fails just reflash to a stock rom via odin, not to worry since any stock rom will do
thanks for the information guys. I know any rom should work, i do it in mi LG Optimus2x but i had a samsung phone before (galaxy spica) and i had some troubles after flashing some custom roms, where i would only be able to have 2G signal and not 3G, or in some cases have no connectivity at all. I will give some roms a try and see how everyhting goes (and do a backup first, hehehe).
thanks again.
hi all,
short story: Friend on T-Mobile needed a new phone. I bought them a Unlocked Americas S5 (SM-G900H) on amazon. They received it today. Swap sim cards from their damaged s4. Have them set it to global in network settings, have them change the ADN, and a couple other settings to get it to work on T-Mobile. Find out what was sent was a unlocked Verizon S5 model (SM-G900V) according to their system info screen. They also see Verizon apps installed and whatnot, and bootloader. Either way, they are able to receive data, text, calls. And they are getting 4GLTE just fine (shows and detcts it as tmobile, and they can download and browse the net, no issues), not HPSA+. Work like a charm as far as data and voice go.
However, only one issue.... they keep getting a "SIM Card is from a unknown source" warning on the taskbar that's just annoying. I had them root their phone, install supers, and install a root file browser after finding some information to freeze or remove "vzwphoneservice.apk" which seems to fix this same issues for others on older android phones. Problem is, its not there... not in system\app and not in system\priv-app where it should be. They use 4.4.2 kitkat. So I check my own note 3, which is also Verizon and has 4.4.2 kitkat. Im rooted, check same folders, that file is not in either of those directories.
To me, its apparent Verizon has changed the filename. Just trying to find out what it is so I can freeze or remove it to get rid of that Verizon "SIM Card from unknown source" warning.
Any suggestions or ideas? would be greatly appreciated

Confirm that both vzwphoneservice.apk and vzwphoneservice.odex are renamed or removed. You may also need to rename VzwController.apk and VzwController.odex and clear your phone cache (from recovery mode).
These are Verizon setup files and it is looking for an encrypted SIM that CDMA carriers like to use. The above should vanquish the message unless you have really rotten luck vis a viz Verizon having added yet another Kitkat setup package.

Welcome to XDA.
It would be good if you started a new thread though, rather than hijack someone else's thread on a similar topic.
Tell us what you tried looking for (filenames, where.. using what app, etc. and what phone model you have.. as many details as you can) and lots of us will try to help you out.

Ok, I created a new thread here. Thank you for the quick reply!
Hello everyone,
Sorry if this was posted already - I am typing this up in between other projects and I wanted to put something out here so I wouldn't forget. This last weekend, I purchased a used Galaxy S5 CDMA phone branded by US Cellular. I searched and searched for a way to unlock it but I was not able to find anything that worked for me. My phone is currently running Android 4.4.2 and none of the *# dial codes would do anything for me. Finally I was near a local US Cellular today so I brought my phone in and they unlocked the SIM for me so I can use it with other carriers. I haven't had a chance to go through the phone yet after the unlock, but I plan on looking at it tonight when I get home to find out if I can figure out how it was unlocked so I can share that info with anyone on the site who would like to unlock their SM-G900R4. I'm hoping that during their unlocking process, the hidden menus were left visible so I can look at the phone's file structure. I'll report back as soon as I know more.

Just a quick follow up... I didn't have a chance to go through my phone extensively last night, but I did see something that may or may not be of interest. When I got my phone back after being unlocked, there was an icon for mceFramework. When I clicked on it, it ran in the upper corner of the phone and when I swiped down it said it would be uninstalled. From what I have read about it, it has really nothing to do with the unlocking of the phone though.
Depending on what time I get home tonight will determine if I get to really dig into the phone tonight or not. I'm hoping there is something I will be able to find that will be useful. The US Cellular phone is a bit different though, as I mentioned before regarding the *# codes... No matter what *# codes I try, they do not work... even something as simple as *#060# does nothing on my phone - even after being unlocked. If I find something, I'll report back.

Hello, I came across this thread and just thought I'd share how I was able to unlock my Galaxy s5 Mini (US Cellular). I tried just about everything, but what finally worked was simply flashing the stock rom which can be found at the sammobile site. Use 'Odin', instructions included on the website.

Hello -- stock rom by model number. I think in most cases this is just stock Android for the carrier of specified model, minus bloatware and network lock. Well, I correct myself -- there may be some bloatware, but certainly less than what was there after performing the factory reset. The link to 'sm-g900r4' rom is at sammobile(dotcom), firmwares, search for model number -- and download latest version.
In my case, phone model is 'sm-g800r4' (US Cellular). Everywhere I looked online suggested that I had to contact US Cellular and request instructions for unlocking, but they will only do this if you have the original sim card. So, I finally flashed the stock rom using Odin, following very basic instructions (included on the rom site). After flashing, I still had the US Cellular splash screen, but my verizon sim suddenly worked with the device. Next step for me -- root and replace that ugly US Cellular splash screen with the gorgeous lollipop boot animation. Very nice.
If you need assistance with specific instructions let me know, and I can provide a quick summary.
Simple instructions, great site to join for US Cell users.

Did you ever figure out a way to unlock your phone?
All,
Apologies in advance if this has been answered (I think it has, but I am being cautious here). I've seen a couple of posts that seem to indicate that this is indeed possible and relatively easy. Wanted to see if I could get confirmation before attempting this (seems too easy).
Full disclosure: this phone is not rooted. It is unlocked and I'm currently using it with a t-mobile sim, but the sprint activation app continues to cause problems and requires it to be force closed. I'm also now having sporadic issues with LTE connection. Double checked all settings with regard to t-mobile configuration already. Thinking this might be the best way to go at this point. I'm not interested in rooting/unlocking the bootloader unless absolutely necessary to do this.
Based on my research, it would seem that I could simply download Odin 3.12.3 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451).
Then, use that to flash the flash the files found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...o/g930tuvs4bqc1-odin-files-3-25-2017-t3579177.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Anyone? Don't all speak at once.
Thanks.
If it is unlocked, odin the tmobile firmware. It will unlock the correct bands. You can also flash the universal firmware and get the same thing without the bloat
Im having the same issue. Another thread suggests the universal version then flashing something else to open the bands we need. Those 5 download links you shared, are those all tmobile stock? Ya id love a tutorial lol
I decided to try this today using the files I originally linked and everything appears to be working just fine.
Thank you, lvpre, for the reply.
