Hi guys, sorry for asking this, I know it is probably mentioned but I have spent the last 2 hours in this forum for various interests, including my galaxy gear and my eyes are hurting right now...lol
So before I attempt something and make a mistake because I missed something, I figured I ask straight to the point...
I am on the latest 4.3 OTA update on my fido S4.
I am interested to possibly flash the Rom to another one that is clean (without all the stock apps) and gain access also to bluetooth tether which is right now not available through fido.
If, this is an option with another ROM (which I am hoping it is)
So is a ROM available ? That can be flashed over the latest update ?
I found some threads but they were referring to already rooted phones etc...I am just not sure where I stand with the latest update, so I would really appreciate some info.
Thanks.
I have a Fido S4 on MDJ(4.2.2). I rooted and unlocked(using RegionLock away). If I flash a newer rom will I see a significant speed difference or performance boost?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can not unlock phone using region lock away, but on MDJ you can with secret menu, provided you never updated to mg1. Besides 4.2.2 Fido and before, was not region locked at all.
Maybe now with 4.3 it is. Did not check and can't be bothered looking for European sim card.
To answer main question. No! If you factory reset phone you will, but that's only temporary, which is why newbies keep saying it's faster and better with every firmware.
Sent from my GT-I9505G
I am not the first to claim I unlocked with RegionLock away. I inserted a T-Mobile sim and a Bell sim, and it did not ask for an unlock code. Before I ran RegionLock away, when I inserted a T-Mobile sim, it did ask for unlock code. Also, many people say the secret menu unlock doesn't work for Fido and/or screws up something.
Oh, what's that formula for POST COUNTS and NEWBIES again?
Hey guys, checking in again...
Sorry for the question, don't want to be flamed but there are A LOT of posts about different versions and I really do not want to screw up.
So :
Canadian fido S4 on 4.3 over the air update. Can I still root ? Possible link to the correct method ?
Any ROM available that is clean and would re activate BT tethering ? Link if any ?
Sorry guys, I am not lazy, just dizzy reading all the threads and trying to short them out between versions...
A mistake would put me in worse situation and 2 simple answers from anyone that knows would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.
Hi,
Currently I have a i337 galaxy s4 which I am using with tmobile sim card. I made it unlocked by ATT before I switched to tmobile. It has baseband UFNI1 and Android 4.4.2 installed. I managed to get it rooted using the Odin software, so I can use the tethering with the tmobile.
Now I am trying to find a way to use the Wi-Fi calling. I searched it a lot and figured out that I need a tmobile rom installed but it quickly got very confusing. It looks like what you need to do also depends on what android version you are using. For some you need safestrap, change the kernel for some you don't. For some you have Wi-Fi issues and need to change the modem etc.
So, I am trying to find the easiest and safest way that will make the Wi-Fi calling work. I don't necessarily need the very latest android version or the fancy custom roms etc,I only need something that will work without any issues. I am perfectly fine with a tmobile stock Rom if that's the most convenient way.
So,I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. It would be great to have a set of noob friendly instructions. Thanks a lot.

Hi There,
Were you able to root your device for Wifi Calling. I followed the instructions of http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nvert-i337-to-m919-wifi-caling-t2896719/page6 and went into the same issue. After TMOBILE stock rom, the phone does not boot. I was able to install the first rom and then able to get onto the latest version and able to use phone again with AT&T latest software update (android 5.0.1). Actually, this is the version I have when I started rooting.
If you find any solution, please let me know as I am on the same boat with you on installing TMOBILE ROM using the other thread.
thanks
Ram
You cannot install a T-Mobile stock ROM to an AT&T device. Samsung has safeguards in place to prevent it. You would need to root and then install a custom ROM, which on an AT&T is difficult to do with its encrypted bootloader.
However, this is not the appropriate location to ask this. Questions related to AT&T devices belong in the AT&T S4 forums.
Hello everyone,
Sorry if this was posted already - I am typing this up in between other projects and I wanted to put something out here so I wouldn't forget. This last weekend, I purchased a used Galaxy S5 CDMA phone branded by US Cellular. I searched and searched for a way to unlock it but I was not able to find anything that worked for me. My phone is currently running Android 4.4.2 and none of the *# dial codes would do anything for me. Finally I was near a local US Cellular today so I brought my phone in and they unlocked the SIM for me so I can use it with other carriers. I haven't had a chance to go through the phone yet after the unlock, but I plan on looking at it tonight when I get home to find out if I can figure out how it was unlocked so I can share that info with anyone on the site who would like to unlock their SM-G900R4. I'm hoping that during their unlocking process, the hidden menus were left visible so I can look at the phone's file structure. I'll report back as soon as I know more.

Just a quick follow up... I didn't have a chance to go through my phone extensively last night, but I did see something that may or may not be of interest. When I got my phone back after being unlocked, there was an icon for mceFramework. When I clicked on it, it ran in the upper corner of the phone and when I swiped down it said it would be uninstalled. From what I have read about it, it has really nothing to do with the unlocking of the phone though.
Depending on what time I get home tonight will determine if I get to really dig into the phone tonight or not. I'm hoping there is something I will be able to find that will be useful. The US Cellular phone is a bit different though, as I mentioned before regarding the *# codes... No matter what *# codes I try, they do not work... even something as simple as *#060# does nothing on my phone - even after being unlocked. If I find something, I'll report back.

Hello, I came across this thread and just thought I'd share how I was able to unlock my Galaxy s5 Mini (US Cellular). I tried just about everything, but what finally worked was simply flashing the stock rom which can be found at the sammobile site. Use 'Odin', instructions included on the website.

Hello -- stock rom by model number. I think in most cases this is just stock Android for the carrier of specified model, minus bloatware and network lock. Well, I correct myself -- there may be some bloatware, but certainly less than what was there after performing the factory reset. The link to 'sm-g900r4' rom is at sammobile(dotcom), firmwares, search for model number -- and download latest version.
In my case, phone model is 'sm-g800r4' (US Cellular). Everywhere I looked online suggested that I had to contact US Cellular and request instructions for unlocking, but they will only do this if you have the original sim card. So, I finally flashed the stock rom using Odin, following very basic instructions (included on the rom site). After flashing, I still had the US Cellular splash screen, but my verizon sim suddenly worked with the device. Next step for me -- root and replace that ugly US Cellular splash screen with the gorgeous lollipop boot animation. Very nice.
If you need assistance with specific instructions let me know, and I can provide a quick summary.
Simple instructions, great site to join for US Cell users.

Did you ever figure out a way to unlock your phone?
I'm not very tech savvy, but rooting this model (S7 Edge SM-935A) seems to be hard according to what I have found. I would like to root it and get rid of all the bloatware and try a custom ROM, but don't want to mess things up. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks very much for any info.
I have an AT&T S7 Edge and wanted to get rid of the bloatware also. I installed this ROM and all is working great. I didn't root device but I have no bloatware. It also get's OTA updates quick.

Not really difficult. Need a special version of odin, modded by someone who goes by the alias Prince Comey. Then must rught click on the exe file in winblowz and select 'run as administrator'.
The non-modded versions will error out and won't complete the flashing process. Must be careful, and be sure that you are are flashing the correct files for your particular phone. I rooted my AT&T S7 Edge by flashing just one file.
The trickiest part is finding the files for your variant, whether it's AT&T, Verizon, or other. Also must install the usb driver for Samsung and the adb driver, both on your windows computer.

There is no engineering bootloader available for Oreo yet, so you will have to drop back to Nougat. From there, you can either go with AT&T firmware or the Unlocked firmware, depending on how badly you want WiFi calling and VoLTE. (If you aren't an AT&T customer, this is a really easy call).
Just going with the U firmware will remove the vast majority of the bloat right out of the box. You can root it and get the rest, but I haven't found it to be worth the effort, as the U firmware is pretty good as it is.

Samsung S7 edge and S7 flat variants do not allow TWRP to remain installed upon rebooting. There are ways to still root with it however. I found a post on X.D.A. that states SM-G935A ( AT&T variant of the 7s Edge ) runs fine after flashing the SM-G935U firmware. I had flashed it without issues myself, however I never tested it before running across the comboRom that I was originally looking for. Just place all 5 files in the correct positions ( BL,AP,CP,CSC,USER) of Odin. If Odin is only allowing you to 4 spots to flash. You need to use a different version of Odin. I used the "patched" version of Odin. Unsure if that is one and the same as the prince version.
S7 Edge while 'rooted' at least by the way I had rooted them. Runs very very HOT and lags to the point of annoyance.
So if you 'think' you need to root your phone. Make sure you need to first and fore most because was a back and forth headache to root. make changes, then unroot. then test. then root again. then test agian, then unroot.. etc.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development/easyroot-unroot-t3859762
that link is for bootloader V4 to root.
When flashing SU make sure you use the system version and not the system-less version if you follow the instructions for OREO (Android version 8 ). The instructions I originally followed never stated that aspect and I had gone in circles for an hour until i discovered the problem.
Verizon variant had a few different ways to root/un-root, with different walk-thrus of which I 'think' would work with different carriers. Just instead of using the S935V firmware, You would just need to use your carriers firmware while flashing it with Odin but I could be wrong so please double check the comments of whichever way you choose to root your phone for someone else with similar question/concerns as yours.
If you had been using your phone after the messages were deleted ( especially if its been awhile since you deleted them ) then you are likely S.O.L. However if it's worth the time spent for you to try, then it's worth the effort to try.

This thread is only 1 page long with 10 previous posts before yours. Out of those 10 posts, 3-4 of them describes what you're seeking...
Guessing you saw the threads title and bcuz of that you clicked on it and asked your question. Did it ever dawn on you that your question is nearly identical to the title of this thread? This is how forums work, if a threads subject is similar to the subject that you're interested in then, the thread may contain your answer. Next, is where quite a few folks seem to really struggle, sort of like yourself but it's ok, everyone was new once. This is where you'd want to pay close attention, really concentrate and use every bit of brain power to focus on this next step. I'm going to reiterate, just in case I lost ya: You just located a thread that it's title is very similar to a question that you have (you did a good job searching & your instincts to click/open it are on point, well done). A threads title tells you that the discussion(s) inside there relate to that topic. Upon opening the thread, you'll see rectangles vertically aligned, when members add thoughts or ideas to the topic, they're separated by the rectangles. They're arranged in chronological order the top being the first, the most recent or latest entry being the bottom. And thats how forums like this one and many others work. Pretty simple idea, I think, yet its highly effective.
Now, with this knowledge, Im sure your already 10 steps ahead of me, but I'll mention anyway for anyone else. To fully utilize the resourceful contents here, as it contains vast amounts of invaluable info, one must simply READ and COMPREHEND info that pertains to the subject that brought you here. That means reading (& understanding what you just read), each one of the posts inside the threads. No really, it really is that simple! Unless your device is new, theres likely someone who already asked your question or someone already posted a set of instructions describing the task youre needing. You can test this theory with this same thread youve commented in.
Amazing isn't it? By now, you've probably already figured it out and concluded that posting your message which mirrors the first one here wasn't necessary, nor was including your phone number.. If it wasnt already obvious, you're the lone outcast whom shared their number on a public forum. Most of us here, refrain from such similar activity, since the forum has option to directly contact members via the internal private messaging system. Some highly value their privacy and anonymity. But I cant decide for you, obviously you're comfortable with it.
......
@Talysdaddy
So that was the most condescensing, egotistical, and just blatantly rude response I have ever seen given on this site.. I promise you, I have a very impressive ability to retain knowledge, but considering I was on this site in the first place due to the fact that I have never been interested in, or ever even attempted to mess with my phone before in any type of way, I am slightly uneducated on this PARTICULAR topic. However, that IS NOT because i lack the ability to learn, comprehend and/or retain information, understood?
It is due to the fact that I have never sat down and educated myself on it.. WHICH BY THE WAY, is WHY I'm on this site in the first place, you know that IS the entire PURPOSE of this site? ....
You see how that works? .. Let me break it down for you! Pay close attention and try to follow me and actually comprehend what I am saying! (if you're able to, that is). ANYWAYS, as I was saying, I CAME TO THIS SITE TO TRY TO EDUCATE MYSELF on something I NEEDED to educated on! ALSO to be able to interact with other people, and ask those people questions! To be able to recieve responses from those people, in order to obtain the information THAT I CAME HERE FOR! WHICH BY THE WAY, IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS SITE IS SUPPOSED TO BE USED FOR! Hopefully I have yet to lose you, because this is the most important part! Let's try to read this next part, and actually try and COMPREHEND and UNDERSTAND what I'm saying. I CAME HERE TO USE THIS WEBSITE IN THE EXACT WAY THAT IT IS MEANT TO BE USED! .. To be able to share information! To exchange information! And to obtain information that I am not privy to or an expert on prior to visiting the site!! .. If I was educated on these things I WOULD NOT BE HERE!! Obviously! Soooooo, instead of being an arrogant and cocky JERK, do EVERYONE on this site a huge FAVOR, and next time NOT leave such a RUDE, SMART COMMENT!! Thanks!
P.S. isn't it funny how just from that comment, I could tell you exactly what you look like, the life you live, how insecure you are in yourself, and how you deal with that by trying to belittle others, in an attempt to make yourself feel superior.. BUT, and yes, there is a BUT!! Just because you might know more about this topic than myself, absolutely does not make you ANY more intelligent than myself.. Because I promise, anybody who leaves the response that you left, when I am using the site for its specific purpose in the first place, welllll... let's just say anyone who would do that, and who would do it to boost their superiority complex as a defense to their pathetic insecurities, well, let's just say I would bet my life on the fact that my IQ would make yours look SORT OF like you TRIED to make me look and feel when you left that comment
That's all, hope you find something better to do with your time than this in the future.. it is kind of sad! If you're not here to help, then don't comment! That goes for everyone's posts! Jerk.
I've read through most of the different threads and I am really confused about what's possible with my Lenovo Tab 10 X704A version. Ideally I'd like ROOT AND something that will let me use this thing on T-Mobile (it is carrier locked to ATT and ATT has completely abandoned it). Even if I can't get it to work on TMO, improving everything else would be helpful.
It would also be nice to kill off the ATT garbage and have a shiny new ROM as well.
I downloaded the TWRP that's supposed to work with this version but I have no idea what that actually does for me. Maybe I don't need ROOT if a new ROM takes out the junk software.
Anyway, if someone could sort of guide me on what's best here. I don't necessarily need help on how to do stuff, just need guidance on WHAT to do and it what order.
Thanks!
