I just got an ad for Knox on my Note 4... - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

Hey guys..
I just got an ad on my note 4 in the pull-down tray that says if I install knox I can be eligible to win a note 4? Only thing is I'm running firekat v4, so there is no knox to be found...
...is anybody else experiencing Samsung advertisements on their devices? Please don't tell me they're going to start using the notification pull-down tray as a platform to start advertising Samsung products..

Negative man. Has to be a bogus push ad from an app you installed.

I received it as well.

My bet is you got some spam on your phone. No way Samsung would push that out the phone comes with Knox installed.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

Lol... You should stop downloading sketchy apps because they will NEVER push messages like that.

a third party dodgy app wouldn't make much sense. the ad was way too targeted to be a third party app. it knew i had a note 4 and i didnt have knox installed. what 3rd party ad app would be that specific? Plus I have adblock on the phone since day 1.
I'm 99% sure the ad (or "promo" or whatever) came from samsung. I'm assuming its from their galaxy store. It looked too professional to be a third party ad. The ad was a big, bright image of the note 4 and note edge, and the link took you directly to samsungs website without a referral number at the end.
@ShrekOpher knox isnt installed by default, the installer apk is baked into touchwiz. Knox creates a virtual partition in your sd card to store secure apps. If you don't want that (like 90% of people) you would be losing space on the sd card for no reason. You have to run knox for it to go through setup.

I'm running fire kat too, I'm pretty sure it's due to Samsung push services still being present in this ROM.

I got the same... Just don't install it..

im on fkv4 as well. No knox adds though and i stillhave samsung push service installed. I did do debloating on side though.

I got the same ad yesterday but I believe it was pushed by T-Mobile.

Well i aint running yalls rom, and i didn't receive it lol.
frankly even if it was samsung, it make no sense. why make such an advertisement on a phone the user already have

I have received this, a coworker on an S4 has as well.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

can someone screen capture it it ? im curious

It is probably the Samsung app store, I'll try to take a screen shot if it comes up again, then freeze or remove it and see if is the culprit.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app

My wife got it too on her s5 she's unrooted

I recieved it yesterday, its from samsung push .. debloat that trasha waway

If you long press on the ad and click on "App Info" it should tell you exactly which app is sending you those notifications. If it's an app you actually use you can just hit disable notifications from there and you won't be bothered any more.

The app is an app that separates your phone from your work phone of you use your phone from work the app is on the play store

The question here is not what Knox is, but where the advertisement for it is coming from.

galaxy tab bloatware

Which galaxy tab has the least amount of bloatware?
You can remove all the bloatware you want by rooting and using root explorer, just be careful
Well I preferably want to know about the use versions of the tab but if the European versions are than please let me know or is it just better to root the tab thanks
Unknown yeah it figured but I was just curious out of the 4th carriers which one had the least..... I was just curious to know

I have the sprint tab, came with sprint hotspot and some kind of sprint account manager so nothing too bad like I've seen on other devices

I'm pretty sure the Verizon Tab has the most bloatware
Sent from my HTC EVO using XDA app
None came on mine that arrived today. It was sim free and just had the default samsung stuff I assume.
Does rooting void my warrantee?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Yes rooting will void your warranty.
--Sent from Samsung Tab
And can it be put back to a factory default without them knowing?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Yes it can. Use z4root from the market to root and it has an option to unroot.

WTF are these

Messages that I keep getting? They are like spam or some bull**** and are pissing me off. They show up in the notification bar that I have credit cards to be claimed college grants to get. Plus I keep getting links for apps and crap on my home screen. This crap started this week and I haven't installed anything lately. I am running a stock rooted S4 with the total update and an ad blocker. I would appreciate any help at all this **** is annoying me. Thanks rant is over lol
Its probably one of your apps...many free apps have the ability to spam your status bar with ads...and ad blocker doesn't block all ads. Try disabling or uninstalling apps until you find the culprit

Try airpush detector. It should find the app that is causing the problem.
It worked great on my phone but my not on my dad's. My nephews downloaded a bunch of games on his phone and one or two of then were causing the problem. I just uninstalled them all and the problem went away.
Try updating your ad blocker.

Air push detector will definitely help find the app that is causing this. I had the same problem before as well.

Look for a widget...very known for that crap.

Hardware Privacy App?

OK, it is now out of control. I need to access Yahoo mail but here is one of the latest permissions just released:
RECORD AUDIO (Microphone):
"Allows the app to record audio with the microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation".
I suspect the reason for this is to enable voice search, but the above statement allows a whole lot more.
In the past week or so I have been seeing a lot of these ridiculous permissions. I guess the battle to monetize on your personal information is heating up drastically.
So, can anyone recommend an app that they are using with the stock ROM, rooted, that I can either selectively per installed app or permanently disable access to the hardware (microphone, camera, etc.). It would be nice if the app works with all other non-hardware related permissions as well. I see there are apps for custom ROMS (Xposed, PDdroid), but I really don't want to install everything on my phone from scratch again, and the stock rooted ROM does everything that I need.
Xposed with app ops. Works great. xposed works fine on stock rom

Thanks. Just installed it and works great.
I try to deny as many permissions as possible. Most apps work perfectly fine even though most permissions have been denied.

I was wondering about that. I actually tried this out on a few, and the apps kept on working. The only problem I see with all of this is that most apps update automatically and the authors are constantly sneeking in new permissions. This is going to become a maintenance nightmare. Can I at least prevent apps from automatically updating so I can check them out one at a time before I update, which would help out a little?
You can disable automatic updates in the play store settings. You'll just get a notification of new updates available so you can check them first.

Great, I never even knew there were settings in there.
Today I switched from AppOppsXposed to Xprivacy. Because in AppOppsXposed the apps were spread all over the place under different heading categories, and repeated under different headings in some cases, it was a bit of a pain trying to locate all the apps. Xprivacy is better set up in that regard, has much finer controls, several global settings options, and in most cases instead of blocking data it sends fake data, thus reducing the chance of an app not working or crashing. It was incredible the massive amount of things I was able to block, with no affect on any of the running apps.

There should be a list somewhere of all this pre-loaded bull**** so you can remove it without missing any.
Without root you can't install WA+.
Disabling WA ist maybe possible, but anyhow, you can't install WA+!
It's so unbelievable from Samsung.
I've written Samsung and complained about this. Also on Facebook. Public is always more effective. Maybe if more complaints come, possibly something happens
Facebook App ist also a System App and can't removed, or no old version can't be used.

Not sure what would actually be effective. People have complained about pre-installed apps on Android for, what, five years now? It's never done any good, and the hundreds of millions of additional Android users since back then clearly haven't made the complaints any more effective, either. The option of rooting is there, for people who want to completely have them removed from storage. Otherwise, disabling the apps gets rid of the icons and takes care of any performance hit. The actual size they take up is less than one half of 1% of device storage, so they're really not a big deal. It's just the psychological effect of knowing they're there. I've just learned to ignore it.
After coming from the Nexus 5 with its lack of expandable storage, I learned pretty quick that a couple megs for a stock app make a poor target for blame when I'm angry because I've got nowhere to put a 500+mb game I bought.
-Edit: On the other hand, when a preinstalled app makes it impossible to install another version of the same app from the store, it might go further to train yourself to treat that sort of thing like a bug. Report it to their technical support and act incredulous that they'd let such broken behavior into a production release. ;P

Cannot uninstall Instagram Note 4

Hi All,
Im a noob. But my dilemma is since I opted to install the ota update that popped up when I got my Note 4. I am now unable to uninstall Instagram. All i can do is disable it. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Yes.
Instagramm is pre-installed (system app) and can't removed without root.
Just disabling works

Disabling it is really almost just as good as uninstalling it. My problem is with Evernote, I can't even disable that one. I really hate that program, and if anything will make me root it would be to get rid of evercrap.
Thank you guys for the help. The Note 4 is taking me some time to adjust to. I'm coming from the Note 3, I thought the transition would be a lot smoother. I like to use themes for my facebook, twitter and instagram- making it a bit more feminine but I don't know if it's possible since instagram is now a stock application. Sheesh!!

The app being installed on system shouldn't affect themes or anything? The app can still be modified and updated, just not uninstalled.
How disabling the app helps?
If you disable notifications and syncing in the app, why disable the app?

I have every possible app disabled at this point, however you can't download and install a new or custom version of IG I've tried at least 5 diff times ... :\ I'm going to end up rooting to unog my bloatware I suppose. If you figure it out let me know.
