32bit windows can max run 3gb ram, do andoid work the same way?
I see note 4 n910u have a 4gb ram module inside..
Never seen info about this, or never see any info about 3 or 4gb ram.

No idea bout the ram module, but a 32bit OS can support 4GB!! The reality is that not all of that RAM is made available to the OS all the time as the system reserves portions

No it doesn't mean that.
Its telling you that the type of memory module being use is a 4 Gigabit, notice the lower case b, b = bit , upper case B = Byte.
Samsung is using 6x4Gigabit modules to give us 3GigaBytes of RAM. There is 8 Bits to a Byte.
And the usable amount is whats left over after they give a portion of it to the GPU for video processing.
Did you see the line "detection needs to be improved" in the bottom?

A 32bit os can only address 3.75ish GB of RAM which most just round up to 4GB anyway

I just bought a nexus 10 and I have a question about the RAM amount. It's supposed to have 2GB of RAM but in my device it show only 1.23GB....
Is it normal? In my nexus 4 it shows 1.83GB.

Not really. They are telling the truth that there is 2GB of RAM installed. Just hate that almost half of it isn't usable by the intended purpose...
Should of just thrown 2.8GB of RAM on the board and gave 800MB directly to the GPU.
It isnt just the Nexus 10 that has this shared memory, most phones and tablets do. There are specific chipsets that have their own dedicated vram, like Tegra 3. Having dedicated vram chips has to do with how the memory controller is designed in the chipset architecture.

Where's the source on what you're talking about? The RAM is always going to be used up by something - the OS, launcher, etc. You're not going to turn the phone on and have exactly 2GB of RAM available.
Sure, but it says 1,4 out of 1,8 used, 3xx free.
That means Limit is 1,8 as shown under Memory, not 2 as advertised. Never noticed that on a phone before.
As soon as the device is running memory is used, but it should say out of 2,0 not 1,8?

Coming from the technical, developer background:
you have to consider that device drivers also eat up quite some memory/storage (best example: the Galaxy S, GT-i9000: 512 MB advertised, at best 300 [384 at best] available)
it's only the device drivers, it's the kernel (system) itself that also needs memory
so you'd basically have to advertise e.g. 2 GB but plug in 3 or even 4 GB to have full access for e.g. apps
All companies define a gigabyte to be 1000MB, and a megabyte to be 1000kb, etc etc. In reality it's 1024KB per MB, and 1024MB per GB.
You never fully get 2GB, just check your computer eg. your hardrive might be 1tb big, but in reality its only somewhat over 900gb? 16gb ram might only be 15.9 gb!

Only Hard Disks have that "exchange" from 2TB to 1,8 e.g.

Plus, on android some ram is reserved by GPU. Unlike dedicated graphic card on PC/Mac which got their owned ram but our GPU shared with system memory.
Same thing as onboard GPU on desktop systems so?

Total Ram 3580MB (1190 available at the time of the test)
Internal storage 24.86GB
I know about the 1000 vs 1024 story, but even with that in mind, those figures look quiet far from the numbers announced (4GB & 32GB) by Samsung???

I'd also like an explanation. I've no doubt there are 4gb of memory soldered onto the motherboard, but I'd like to know why only 3.5gb are reported available.
In 32-bit days, before Lollipop and ArmV8 architecture, devices always reported a maximum of 3.5gb available because that was all that could be used on a 32-bit system. I'm wondering if this ram reporting issue is due to some kind of 32-bit limitation on our 64-bit devices.
If anyone really knows the technical reasons for this, I'd like to understand what's going on, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Some of the RAM around 512mb is allocated to the GPU, and for the storage, 8gb is used for android system partition

Yes bro its OS is 32 bit. Since its processor are based on armv7. And it won't be a trouble as the chip inside is not that powerful.

al the latest moto G phones have 64 bit processor and 32 bit system... and the g5 plus is not an exception.

Bro snapdragon 625 is not a low end chip, it's powerful enough to run ur phone smooth, and it's based on armv8a and that makes it backward compatible to armv7....so this phone is supposed to run 64 bit os , but u knw moto

bcz i think to unify the system for all variants. g5 plus also has 2 and 3 gb ram varints. it must be something which moto has taken into account while pushing 32 bit. so i guess we are good here.lol

Please let me know where I have said SD625 a "low-end chipset". As far I know and own the device and went through several test it shows armv7 (SS attached).

You don't get the point. Even if it is a 64 bit SOC, rest of the hardware follows v7 architecture (as SD625 is backward compatible). So it impossible to run 64 bit OS on this device.
What about ram usability

4 GB is the maximum a 32 bit architecture can support. So yes, it's fully utilised

The physically addressable memory has not much to do with the "bitness" of the architecture. Most armv7a implementations support lpae (large physical address extension) and can thus address more than 4GB. Actually, I bet this extension is used on the 4GB variant as you also have I/O mapped into the physical address space and would be unable to utilize all of the RAM.
The 32 Bit architecture only confines the virtual address space *per process* to 4GB. Since some of that address space is used to map in shared objects (libraries), stack, kernel interfaces etc. you can usually only use 2-3 GB of RAM per process. This is hardly an issue for a phone (unless you run the Facebook app ). For servers (especially databases etc.) this limitation is an issue and the reason why 64 bit architectures are used there.
AArch64 has some other benefits, such as twice the amount of general purpose registers, 64 bit wide registers (obviously) which allow for 64 bit math, mandatory extensions (no need to check, compiler can just use NEON e.g.) etc. So it's sad that Motorola is not using the SoC's potential.
As for custom ROMs: You'd need a 64 bit kernel which supports the Moto's hardware, 64 bits gfx drivers. Not easy. And then you still need to hope that you can somehow convince the bootloader to boot your kernel in AArch64 state -- which may not be possible. Thus it is extremely unlikely that you get 64 bit support from the community.
My K1 has upgraded to 7.0. it became slow when i use it. I rooted and optimzed it but it can olny get a lttle better.
I want to know if an android device can expand RAM by changing the RAM chip? And if it can perform much better?
its very difficult and not very cost-effective to hire skilled engineer to replace it . just buy a new tablet

Likely not, you will need a compatible ram chip. Even if the larger chip is compatible, the board or kernel may limit it to just 2gb. 32bit devices cannot use more than 4gb anyways. The best you can do is to just increase the swap.

I have been having the same thoughts as you. On this device, the ram is actually not built in the soc as most smartphones and tablets, its it separate from it on 4x512mb chips.
I got the tablet recently and the first thing that came across my mind was changing the thermal paste, the factory one is really garbage so I cleaned and replaced it with arctic mx2, under the heatsink of the soc and the ram there is some sort of a graphite thermal pad, which is not very efficient, I replaced it with thermal paste as well. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, so idk what are the ram chips exactly, devcheck reports that the device has lpddr3 1066mhz ram but I'm not sure if that is trustworthy.
IMO upgrading the ram to at least 3gb is very possible, now the question is what kind of ram chips we need and where should we look for them.
Tegra K1 is practically the fastest 32-bit soc in existence, so more ram would definitely help it out a lot. I mentioned it in another post but on the latest firmware the ram usage is abnormally high on this device, sitting at about 1gb at idle(no gapps, LOS) while it should be closer to 500mb.
