Surprisingly dissapointed with browsing speed.
Coming from an LG G2 which was insantaneous in loading pages, my note 4 lags chronically.
This is observed in every browser I've tried.
It should be noted that the pages which the Note 4 loads, have significantly more and larger advertisements.
Symptoms:
1. 2-5 seconds longer in loading pages when compared to the LG G2.
2. Momentary freeze when swipe to scroll.
3. Noticeable jump when scrolling - every time with each swipe.
Has anyone experienced similar issue or able to offer any insight towards resolving?
Your input would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same issue and reverted to the stock default browser and it seems the smoothest for me. I had the Samsung support apk installed which did help Chrome a bit but still not as good as stock.

I think that the biggest problem is that most web pages are 75% ads, and 25% content that you want.
Web designers are lazy, and they just throw every single ad they can find on there, and they make a mess of things. It is really annoying when you just want to read something and have to go through 14 ads and commercials to read what you went there for.
I think that this is the modern day equivalent of the pop-up. Most have those blocked pretty well, so now all those annoying popups are just integrated into the page itself and it really bogs things down. And I think that in their greedy zeal to force these ads down our throats, they make them less effective because we just learn to tune them out and become numb to them...
If it was an ad or two on a page, I might see it and check it out. WHen it is 9 or 10 I get annoyed and just start flicking past them to get what I want, or I give up and try another page altogether...
It will help a lot if you get rid of the ads. I am using ABP to block all ads easily when in wifi. no need for root.
if you got root adaway is the way to go.

enter this in the chrome bar: chrome://flags
Then look for "Maximum tiles for interest area"
and change to 512. This allocates more ram.
You can play with the other settings there as well and reset incase things get effed up :good:

Alright this is the final solutions I have found. If it wont work for you then it's the end of the world...
Option one: 1) install samsung support
2) disable javascript and restart chrome
If you need javascript enabled keep it enabled and make sure samsung support is installed
1) enter chrome://flags
2) look for "Enable Experimental JavaScript" restart and reply here for feedback...
Also don't forget to enable the 512 hack as well

I don't know if you guys know already, but Opera Mobile browser has been updated to 11.1, bringing along a whole lot of goodies, including flash support and user agent changes.
One thing I did notice was that typing lag on facebook seemed to have diminished, this was on desktop view, however still unable to type through some pages with "disqus"
I also found HD 720p videos on youtube has greatly improved! It might be just me, but frames seem to be a whole lot better as opposed to dolphin HD and stock browser.
Frames also drop a bit when viewing full screen 720p in browser, but its watchable.
A link to change log can be found here: http://my.opera.com/operamobile/blog/2011/06/30/opera-mobile-11-1-has-arrived
Temporary Fix to search bar always going to mobile search (must apply apply every time you reset Opera), Credit to iCracked
Hey everyone, I have found a fix for those of you frustrated with the old google mobile search. once you have switched UA to desktop, go to google.com manually, it should load up the full site. Now, using your finger, press and hold over the google.com (website's) search bar, to bring up the menu. Now select "add search engine" then go to your browser search bar and tap the little google icon to bring up a list of search providers and select the new google one, be sure to delete the old one to avoid confusion.

yes, I noticed that too, but I made some video comparisons with a few 720p videos that I watched on different browsers, and it seems Opera seems to perform better. Only my judgement though, and I'm judging on real world performance, not an in app browser test to judge what I can see.
I am running Honeycomb 3.1 stock unrooted
and its fast!!!! not the flash. everything else. no keyboards lag ... Google you need to learn something or maybe buy opera.

Opera is known to introduce its own optimizations, so that's why it's the best in terms of Javascript performance showing zero lag in text input. Finally, Flash support is available! How did they manage to do that without Honeycomb source code?
memory usage is pretty bad tho. 170mb right now on xda wtf?
I'm guessing that the Flash support doesnt work with the hacked/hulu Flash? Opera isn't picking up my Flash but it works in every other browser...
Seems to work well and without any redraw issues when scrolling quickly. Good spot.
nice...will have to give it a try when i get home.
Last night i did a second reset. trying to run my tablet without any downloads for the moment and monitoring performance.
disabled javascript, flash on demand, and the browser was beautifully working. opened up links super fast, then.........
i hit the back button (lower left on screen)...the page does nothing. i press again, and this time it takes me 2 pages further than i wanted...damnit
then when i go from landscape to portrait, the damn quick scroll guide (added in 3.1) is stuck in the middle of the page...
all of a sudden..it crashes. no message, no warning, just straight back to home page. wtf... shame, because i love the layout of the stock browser.
But. Opera..here i come
Loving it. It's REALLY quick, feels 4x quicker than the stock browser, and more intuitive too. I also just tried their desktop browser, Chrome killer or what!!!

Opera keeps on randomly zooming in on certain links when I click them. This is extremely annoying when using the touchpad as the mouse is plenty accurate enough.
Any way to turn this off?
Anyone successfully seeing flash videos in the new Opera using the 10.3 hulu hacked flash?
Google searches from the address bar or search box still use the mobile google site even with the UA set to desktop.
Did they also increase the font size on 11.1? The font size on previous version were much smaller then default browser, and dolphin HD

That's precisely why you don't see any redraw while scrolling. The stock browser uses less memory because it doesn't load the whole page, instead only loading the portion of the page that you are currently viewing. This translates to choppy performance because it has to reload the page every time you scroll up or down, but leaves more memory for the rest of the OS to work with.
I hate tabs on this thing. Hidden, huge and ugly.
Also it renders fonts badly (some letters are to close, some are too bold comparing to stock browser or Dolphin).
scrolling is jittery no where as smooth scrolling as default browser

I like them out of the way. They are hidden on my desktop that sports a full hd screen, I see no reason to keep them on sight on a "tiny" screen
Anyway, they didn't update Opera link, I was kinda hoping they will, so to get the most out of Opera 11.50....... oh well. One day.

The main app any tablet user uses is the Browser I'd assume and unfortunately its the weak spot on Honeycomb.
Viewing most desktop sites is very unbearable (try facebook, XDA, Google Plus) as the page lags, and text input is very difficult as well (huge lag)
Do any devs have any idea how to improve the speed on this stock browser in custom roms or so, I remember a kernel on the Xoom fixed things

If we could get a fix for this I could finally love my tab.
There is a lot less lag on the bonsai rom, but it's not completely gone. Ultimately google will have to be the to fix it.
theyve never mentioned it /acknowledged it
thats the worrying part
Ya know what actually, as,much as i dont like the look of the browser, opera mobile is the best functioning browser ive ever used. There is no browser lag, it render eveything exactly the way my desktop does. Im very suprised that google cannot mirror whatever opera mobile has done.
Ill give you an example of where opera finally got it right...
Try and do a search on xdas site and see what happens. It opens the text box for a second and then it drops the keyboard. Its never works and it is so annoying.
Now try it on opera mobile. Oh my god, it works!
It doesnt work on dolphin, firefox or any other browser ive tried. Opera mobile it works. Can a super sharp coder figure out a way to take whatever opera has in it and put it in the stock HC browser??
it`strange becouse in some forums is all ok, in other the text is very very slow :-(

I tried Opera and everything works great except two things. the first is that often times you will enter text in a text box, and then when you minimize the keyboard to click the submit button, it removes everything you just typed! I had this happen to me about 5 times and then I gave up and uninstalled it. The other issue is mainly a preference, but the tabs suck! Give me real tabs like the stock browser. opera and Firefox have a horrible tab implementation on Android.

Plus I am very tired of getting to the "mobile" version of the websites.
Its a 10 inch Tablet..
Google needs to give this thing a Desktop identity and load the desktop version of the websites. One thing Apple is doing right with the iPad.
Even better get rid of this Chrome Based Android Mobile Browser and put there the real Chrome.

even when I've manually set the useragent to a desktop browser, I still get kicked to the mobile versions of some sites. And sites like...google search, which should know better!
I've tested a bunch of browsers at this point and none of them are perfect. I think dolphin comes closest, but it definitely has little things that are annoying (such as it being way to easy to close the wrong tab)

I cant changing and play with the settings every other day.
Plus regular people cannot deal with such advance settings. I personally know 3 people they went with the iPad because of this.

Hello there!!
I use these chrome://flags
I think chrome is smoother now, thanks for sharing!
My experiences have led me to not disable click delay, even though it's one of my favorite options. It causes errors on many pages when trying to click on javasvript links and some other non standard links. An example is if I go to the gmail site in desktop mode. Clicking on a level brings up the "Ah, Snap" error page. After I undo the setting in flags, everything works again.
I guess it's not a huge deal, but if I wantef to used this flag I'd constantly be in flags undoing my changes whenever I encountered a site that gave me errors... Not gonna happen.
I've actually thoroughly evaluated most of that flags in action and the right combination of them can be awesome but a lot of them shouldn't be touched unless there's a good reason for it. Like disabling or enabling a lot of the new experimental extensions etc. Other flags such as the disable click delay one just aren't ready to be used yet for everyday browsing. Sorry for all the attachments, but I'm working and don't have time at the moment to type out all my flag settings
I'll upload screenshots of the settings I normally run on (chrome beta). If using normal chrome some of these settings will be different. For normal chrome, the flags are basically set the same way so experiment some.
Gonna try your flags lol

Stutter and lag can happen once in a while, which is there on even the best of phones. Besides that you might notice a small lag if you restart the phone and stock apps start for the first time. Or soon after installing a new rom might lag as well for a minute.
Did factory resetting fix this problem? I am having the same lag in scrolling, since I received the phone. Am thinking about factory resetting now.

Are you using the default theme? I have noticed that with some of the themes I have tried there is a problem with lag or stuttering between home screens. This is not the case with most themes, but some of them seem a bit badly put together as they can cause problems. The one I'm using at the moment (Lyle's Golden Age) is completely lag-free. I found the original theme so ugly that I removed it immediately and I can't remember if it had a problem.
This problem seems to be of a software nature and if you use Nova launcher there should be no problem.

I am not using the default theme. I tried Lyle's Golden Age to check, but still stuttering.
I use the Google Now Launcher, where it is really obvious.
When I swipe to the left to get to the now part, the device has to load the list. Takes like half a second.

Bought it from Vmall, EU version.
Firmware version PLK-L01C432B121.
I might just do a factory reset.
Strange things are happening, and I think this lagging is happening since the first boot.
Your phone is 100% smooth?
Like if you open an app that has a scrolling list and immediately start to scroll, it doesn't lag and keep running a little bit when you stop?

I can only remember two apps from the top of my head that have had this behaviour, and that is the default web browser and Tapatalk. Other apps are super smooth right away. Name an app that you have problems with and I will test it.

I tried it a bit and Went to the Games and Hobbies pod section and it seems completely smooth on my phone. The list and icons has to be fetched first, but apart from the online downloading time the list is smooth to scroll. There are hundreds of pods so you can't expect them to load instantly. When it says Reading... at the bottom it has to stop and this has nothing to do with the phone.

I have a hard time distinguishing between something just still loading in while scrolling or just lagging.
I took the same list you just said, and if I load like 200 things and then scroll trough that list it is smooth until is suddenly jumps a bit.
Then it is smooth again, and then again a little jump and skipping a few podcasts and stuff.
That doesn't happen for you?

No, if I let it load 200 podcasts and scroll fast through that list it runs comlpetely smooth and stops only if I put my finger on it. It rolls almost all the way down to the last entry if I swipe fast with my finger.

Do that and do NOT reinstall a backup of apps or settings, only contacts or so. As little as possible as some app or setting, in that order, probably is the cause of your problem.
Good luck!!

I already did the factory reset several times and Updated the phone to B140 and continue with a lot of lag in apps and between screens.

The ads make google chrome crawl it's do damn laggy , I switched to UC browser and the scrolling is sooo smooth , I couldn't believe, but I missed the google now recommendations ( pulled from my browser history ) and also I like being able to open the tabs I was using on my phone on my laptop , so I thought about getting just an adblock, Ive heard adway it's pretty awesome but it's root only and I don't want to root, specially now with the monthly security updates, any recommendations?

This is the best one I've found so far. Been using it for months. http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895

Thanks! I just gave it a try it seems to work but I feel like webpages now take longer to load ? Or am I being paranoid? How do you get rid of the "key" icon on the notification bar? It I pull down the notification bar I get a warning saying that my network is probably being surveiled :/

You cant do anything about that, it will say that for all non root Adblockers. The slower page loading is because the Adblocker has to remove the ads first before showing you the site, which results in a delay. So theres not really a way around it.

OK thank you for the explanation! what really confuses me , is why the "key" icon still shows up even if I don't have chrome opened :/
Your explanation of the delay sounds quite convincing , but still have to ask , do we also get the delay with ablockers with root access ?

No, in fact AdAway makes webpages load faster as the ad server is never even reached. HOSTS file blocking is more seamless than a makeshift VPN for blocking ads over the web and in apps. Also no key icon issues.

The way these non-root adblockers work is by using a local VPN. That's what the key icon is for. It means you're connected to a VPN. Your traffic is being routed through this local VPN and that's how they remove the ads.
Hey, have you tried Firefox mobile? Their adblock add on works well, I found.
Only problem I think is that Firefox mobile will sync with Firefox desktop only as I understand it. That might be a problem if you like Chrome on desktop too.

I just downloaded firefox, and i swear to you I cannot find the block ads settings, and it's not on by default because I see ads, do I need to download a plugin or something?

Yeah not by default. I don't have it here to check first hand, but look around in the menus, there is an option to install add ons or plug-ins not sure how they call it.
Once there search "adblock", you'll find what you need.
It works well when I need it, some websites are absolutely not usable if the pop-ups and other sh*t isn't blocked.

Try Adguard. It's the best one I've used. It even blocked ads in apps so you don't have to pay for ad free versions.

By far the best non-root adblocker I have ever tried (on my S7) and it takes a lot to impress me. Give it a spin, see how it works for you. It blocks ads everywhere. Browser, apps, etc.,.
As for the key that you see in the notifications, it's only there to alert you that you're connected and all traffic is being routed through the VPN (your adblocker is active).

Beyond minimal, it doesn't even show up on any of my battery readings.

I actually like this much better than Adguard battery wise. Really amazing that way. The only problem is that I use Unotelly DNS on my phone and this messes it up.
I'm giving firefox a try for now, but I know I will go back to chrome so I'm pretty sure I'll give a try

Why don't you root your phone, install Adaway, and unroot again? Seems to be the best solution.

Updates are not coming out often, it's enough to update it around every 6 months.
