Play Store Checker - Nexus 6 General

Play Store Checker (storechecker.io)
I made this little tool to check worldwide availability of Nexus devices.
Thought it'd pick your interest guys.
A native Android app with notifications of availability is coming soon, so stay tuned if you're interested.
More countries and devices coming soon as weel.

Naw not really
Pretty sure Google wants to have the Nexus S come out first on the 16th and then OTA the update to us on the 17th or so
Yeah, ask again next Thursday. No reason to believe we'll see it before then.

Unless the famous Football has anything to do with it. If I don't see a leak for the nexus by next wednesday, I'd be surprised
I'm pretty wrapped up in senseui 2.0 right now, gingerbread can wait
What's the point of waiting just for the next day to release the ota for n1? There's no real gain in that for google.
I suspect we'll have to wait longer than 1 day.

How about they sell more Nexus S devices because geeks can't wait to get their hands on Gingerbread so they rush out to buy the phone anyways? Surely we all know it's coming to the Nexus S but look at the thread title, people are going nuts for Gingerbread as it is! LOL
Surely they could just do what Apple does and release the update the day before for the older phones but i guess we'll see

There is a good reason to wait.
Now when the SDK is out all the developers can test their apps against the Gingerbread and fix all the bugs and incompatibilities.
What do you think would happen, if goog realeases their 2.3 update and some popular apps don't work anymore? This forum would literally explode with screams like "fix this immediately or else", "I hate google", "gingerbread killed my cat" and so on. Why google would do that to themselves?
Jw but how is doing the dial in update thing different from the check for updates in the settings?

There is no check for updates in the settings, that's how.

I'm sure he's doing both just in case one yields different results. Supposedly I've heard that the Settings Updater doesn't always check, but caches the answer for an allotted time. Doing a "checkin" actually goes out and pings google (or wherever) and comes back with a result after a few seconds. The Settings app just flat out tells you no.

No there isn't. That section doesn't 'check' for updates, it tells you the result of the last system check for updates, which is done automatically, or forced through the dialer.
Going to that part of the settings does not force a check.

The point would be so that the Nexus S can be marketed as the first phone with Gingerbread.
Yeah they will probably either delay it to just after Dec 16th or release it some time next week. I'm betting on just after though.

True, but its not like they would lose any buyers anyway.
The N1 is only sold as a dev phone. And how many ppl have a N1? compared to SGS or others...
Also, like when they released froyo...many apps didnt work with 2.2 and had to be updated.
There are alot of devs out there with a N1 as a devphone. Giving out 2.3 before the NS release thus giving time for the devs to update their apps before launch would give android better publicity. And happier customers
I dont know if this is an issue with 2.3 though...
(I know the SDK is out)
I was referring to 1 day vs 1 week or more. More seems more appropriate, as you all say.
The only place I'll be "checkin" with is the Development section chef's.

Netflix for Android has been released!

Hello Xoomers! Netflix for android has been released today..unfortunately no 3.0 or 3.1 support but its coming soon! Streaming quality is great, plus you can advance on the app with minimal delay...enjoy!!
"But for now, at least, the app will only be available on select Android phones. Those include the HTC Incredible with Android 2.2, HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2 and 2.3, the HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2, the HTC G2 with Android 2.2 and the Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3."
guess my evo with 2.3 is no good..... someone with one of the said 2.3 devices have the apk they would like to share?
Install it from your PC on your 2.3 evo, thats what i did with my CM7 onboard

works fine on my evo with miui.
i dunno why i'm even in the xoom forum any more... i think i regret returning it.
I got excited, but you should update the title to say "not for xoom--yet" since this is a xoom forum.
yes but the point is that they have finally shown Android some love...this will look great and the Xoom when the update is released.
I can't find it on my market, or the internet market.
I side-loaded the app and tried it on the Xoom, received an error message, come on Netflix...Tablet support is a must..I a drooling just thinking about using Netflix on the bus with our 10 inch screens!!
Works fine on my CM7 Evo, I had to download it from the Evo forum though since it didn't show up on the market.
I can confirm it doesn't work on Xoom. I sideloaded it, and it pops up a message This device is not supported. It lets me log in and then I try to play something again another message this device is not supported. :-(

What really gets me about the delay in getting it out to Android devices was Netflix' constant mantra about how they "needed a reliable DRM solution for Android'. Well I just downloaded it onto my EVO, which hasn't had an update since what- October?
IOW there's no new DRM code in the Froyo OS (unlike the Honeycomb 3.1 update, which has it), which means it comes via the app- and since we know the iPad has Netflix, there's no reason left why there can't be one for HC.
Like you said- come on, Netflix! What gives?!

I could put more weight behind this were it not for the fact that I've been able to watch Amazon Instant Movies since the day a Xoom-capable Flash was released.
Besides, Amazon's "all-you-can eat" pricing model for older releases isn't the same as Google's "new(er)-release, rent now" model.
I imagine it wouldn't be a bad idea for someone to post a link to the uploaded apk somewhere so that lazy people like me can sideload as soon as they get this news.
Maybe even edit the OP

[Q] Google Wallet

According to the official play store write-up for this phone, its features Google Wallet.. Seems odd to me that they would advertise a stock feature that may not actually be on the phone.
Do you reckon there's any chance this means we should also expect this feature to arrive in the UK (and other initial release locations - besides US) at release?
A new version of Wallet is coming out soon, it would make sense for it to be international.

Yeh, but Im in the UK and Google Wallet currently only works in the US due to 'licensing issues' when they were originally planning to launch before the Olympics. I suspect they were not too bothered as the was a lack of NFC technology at the time to make it a big point of interest. Releasing is as a feature of a new phone on the other hand, should gain lots of interest!
Google have now differentiated the UK 'learn more' page and Google Wallet has been removed from it.. Its suddenly not looking so likely to appear as a feature. Still, hopefully it wont be far behind!

There are some modded apks; but they are all quite out of date, carry an obvous risk and I personally wouldnt feel confident about using it. I would consider modding the up-to-date apk myself, but then I would be even less confident!!

You guys can't think of any more improvements to be made to Android? Really? I mean really?
Just off the top of my head how about so much more in the way of customization so you would never ever have to think about using a third party launcher again? How about finally implementing a backup and restore system (an easy and practical one) so you can take all your apps and data from one phone to another? How about coming up with a system in which you can get Android OS updates through the play store and have them work with Sense and others instead of waiting months for updates? Ok that one is pushing it but still possible.

I was reading an article the other day about how it seems google is slowly doing that. They are bringing more and more parts of android to the store, google play services and what not. It was discussing the plausibility that having the launcher, mfg settings, and hardware features be separate from the OS, so that way google can upgrade the core of android without needing an overhaul from the OEM's at every step. Was kinda cool, and seemed very much like the direction they could be going.

Swedish Z3 & Z3C Users On The 3 Network Sign Up For Lollipop Beta Testing

Quick Translate from 3 Website
3beta and Sony in the world unique collaboration
Latest version of Android, 5.0 Lollipop has attracted great interest and is a big step forward for Android. Sony has shown the way and was an early and promised that their entire Z-series will get the update starting early next year.
Prior to this, we are on 3beta proud to work with Sony to invite to our first 3beta projects.
You like 3Kund now have the ability to, as one of the chosen few, to be first in the world to test an early version of Android 5.0 Lollipop on a prototype of the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, before the software is released officially.
What is required to be with?
As a tester, you are expected to be familiar with and interested in new technologies, to use the test phone as your daily phone during the test period and report the possible bugs and feedback on potential areas of improvement.
To join you must be private at 3 and are able to take you to Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö, together with representatives from the 3 and Sony get a review of the test. (Does not apply to customers with 3Kontant).
How does it work?
Register your interest on the form below. Have you already registered your interest 3beta, you do not do this again. All those who register their interest will receive an email with information on how the selection process works. And before some of you lot throw sissy fit, today in Sonys Blog they expressed interest in offering similar oppurtunties in other markets...
Now’s probably a good a time as any to tell you about a new, exclusive initiative we’re running in Sweden with “3”… 3Beta – a pilot programme giving select Sony fans the chance to test drive Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact devices running early versions of our Android 5.0; Lollipop release.
The premise is pretty simple – gather as much early feedback as humanly possible in order to make the Sony User Experience on Android Lollipop as good as it possibly can be, before commercial rollout next year.
We’ll be monitoring interest, reaction and the success s of this project with a view to rolling out similar initiatives in other markets next year.
