Hi, first of all sorry for my english.
I am undecided for my next smartphone between Moto X (I gen) and Nexus 5.
I see the Moto X (I gen) like a Nexus 5, but smaller with more compact size.
I want ask you one thing without consider the display, the camera, the CPU, etc.. only the Modding side of this two smartphone (Custom ROM, Kernel, MOD, Xposed Modules, ...)
What are the things i can do (Modding) with a Nexus 5 that i can't do with a Moto X (I gen)?
Thank you very much for your answer.
* I post the same thread in the Nexus 5 forum.
Pretty much everything. If you value root, and want to flash roms and kernels definitely get the nexus.

Or get the Dev Ed so you can unlock the bootloader and keep your warranty.
^^^^ what he said. Spend the extra 50 bucks and get the dev edition. Then you never worry about losing root again.
But he's asked about development.... And honestly, There's not much for the X.
I believe the X is overall the better phone, but if you like to flash stuff and tinker... You should get the Nexus. The X will bore you quick. ?

I'm with Verizon. Currently have the iPhone. Its garbage and wanting the droid x. I was just wondering what is the best phone with Verizon right now?
I'm in my 14 day trial so I'm debating on what phone I want.
I would suggest droidX if you are ok with touch keyboard, or droid 2, if you prefer physical keyboard. If you wait a couple of months, the droid X2 is due in the second quarter. I personally use droid x and it keeps me quiet merry. Large screen, great camera, fast enough and on and on...

The X is a great phone! It offers a bunch of great customization and a great team of developers that work on it. If you want to be able to TRULY run a custom ROM (custom kernel such as Cyanogen Mod) then the X may not be the phone for you at this time. Devs are still working on unlocking/bypassing the bootloader.
HTC generally makes some good unlocked phones as well. Not to dissuade you from the X, as I personally have one and love it.
1+ on both reviews. Coming from the Eris and 2 weeks now, very pleased. Haven't felt the need to root. (Waiting for cyanogen)
Just discovered its car dock/multimedia dock as another nice feature.
Good luck.

Having had all the iPhones, which I dumped after trying out Android last year... and having/tried/using MANY others I have not been happier with my X... It has the screen I want, built like a tank even with all that glass, speed is great, battery life is VERY impressive (Added the OEM EB), and it is just a solid device inside and out.
Yes, the "modding" is limited and I really thought I was going to miss that because I enjoy testing, creating, etc.... but it really hasn't bother me, my only need for it was to add functionality that I couldn't get, but thanks to Bootstrap and multiple tweaks and mods, I am perfectly happy.
My opinion... You won't regret the switch.
Yup its an excellent phone. With 4g coming around, there will be many more choices with better features. Theyll also come with a bigger price tag and more expensive plans. For now the x is plenty for me.
After having had both Droid X and 2... go with the X. You wont be disappointed!

The Droid X I don't think will disappoint. I like mine a lot. If you are shopping for phones you might want the Fascinate as well.
maybe wait a little while and go with the thunderbolt? im done with motorola because i want to make sure that the bootloader wont be locked beyond what is necessary anymore.

LOL true that.
But his point is completely valid. S5 is awkwardly big, I mean huge. S4 should have been the boundary, from there it should have stayed the same or Samsung should have dialed it back! Maybe the S8 will be like a size of a newborn

Yes, I completely agree! IMO, the Moto X is the perfect size. Larger devices just aren't comfortable for me...but to each their own

Yeah, I however am all right with the "to each their own" thingy and respect that too, but not for this case. All human beings have somewhat same kind of hand, I mean in size, yeah there are people with big hands, but I am talking from a general point of view here. It's like shoes, you get a new one every year or so, but do you keep getting a bigger size?
Human hands and it's size are a constant factor, unfortunately the mobile phone sizes are not! I find it soooooo weird!
I feel everyone here on the size issue. I had a Note 3, and the size was just to much. I did a great deal of research on what to buy, and the Moto X just kept coming up as a phone that had so, so many useful features. Don't get me wrong, the Note 3 came packed with features, but after a few months, many of them came off as gimmicky. I owned Sammy devices since the original Galaxy S (S2, S3, Note 3). Since having this nifty little device on my hands, I've never looked back. Motorola proved a well designed device is much more than what's under the hood, it's also how a manufacturer utilizes that hardware. The Galaxy line has always been well made and amply powered, yet I find the engineering and software design of the Moto X to be downright clever.

I'm a pretty new moto x owner as well (about a month), and the first thing I noticed around was that people liked to say how much they liked this phone; almost more so than I when I creeped with the Bionic crowd.
And I have to throw in my agreement. It's such a good feeling device. A friend loaned me an s4 while I had a trial X from moto for 2 weeks.
The s4 is a nice device with a great screen, but just a bit uncomfortable in my hand. And I couldn't get over the thin fragile feel of it.
In my opinion the X has a solid feel, I don't feel like it could break in my hand. At times I notice that it's a bit heavy of a phone, but that may be why it feels more solid as well.
tapa'd on my moto x
Reasons why I'll never buy a Samsung S4/5/6
-Size
-Touchwiz
-Slow updates
-Gimmicky features
-Confusing UI thanks to Touchwiz
-Cheap build quality
I like my Moto X Pure but I don't love it. I don't know if I'm not using it enough or it's not as premium as I'd like but I keep searching for something else. I've had 4 phones in the past year and a half (Moto X 2013, Droid Turbo, Nexus 6, and Moto X pure) and I've like each but left wanting something else. I'm considering the LG v10. I have Tmobile but I'm considering going to Verizon. I don't know, I'm just bored with it. I wish smartphones had better games and were used for real gaming and I think I'd consider staying. Someone talk me out of leaving.
I love mine. It's the best phone I've ever owned, and I plan to keep it for many years.
But if you don't like it, then get a phone that you like.
Smartphones and tablets are crap for serious gaming and probably always will be. Most serious games requires you to drop $99 on gems or get a hack which makes the game unplayably easy. I would probably never get an LG since my critical requirement for a phone is that it is unlocked and rooted.
If you love gaming, get a good gaming pc or even an xbox, and enjoy the many excellent games available for those platforms, but as far as android games go I haven't found one that doesn't work perfect on the MXPE.

Whenever a Moto X is returned a fairy loses its wings and baby Jesus cries. Pretty sure.

No one needs to talk you out of leaving the phone. I sure won't. If you're bored with this phone, try another...then another and so on. The grass is always greener on the other side and it seems you've proven that to yourself over the last 1.5 years.
Yeah. As others have said, if your looking for serious gaming, I don't think ANY smartphone, much less the Moto X Pure 2015 is going to satisfy you. I'm not sure that there really is any mobile device out there that could be considered good for serious gaming. I'm not sure that you can really call anything serious gaming that's happening on console systems or Steam compatible PC's and laptops. As someone who really only has time for casual gaming these days, I find that the Moto X Pure 2015 does about as well as any other smartphone for the types of games designed for mobile. Although, I prefer mobile gaming on a tablet (in my case a Nexus 9) anyway.
Motorola's radios have always been among the best of any manufacturer. That alone makes a big difference when in a sketchy area, just ask HTC owners who can't make calls let alone Samsung and their "time without signal" issues
One superphone is as good as the next these days.
Find the one that has the features you want most, or that looks the best to you.
The X has the best combination of features and screen size combo that meets my needs.

I have a XT1562 (Moto X Play) and XT1575 Pure .
So, play a little smaller and a super battery, the screen is excellent, although the performance and sound quality weaker.
For each day navenoe choose Play.
I had before a Moto X 2014, a Droid Turbo, a HTC M8, and a Z3.
Overall, Moto X Style is the best of all.
My only complain is about the gyroscope/accelerometer. Its not very precise to play FPS.
Also, if it had those loudspeakers from M8 it would be almost perfect.

Have you looked into streaming Steam games? If not, you might give that a try. Also, get a controller! There's plenty of options out there, one of the most popular being the MOGA Controller. If you root, you can use a PS Controller.
Otherwise, the best games imho is Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 5, and Minecraft Pocket Edition (with mods).
By no means, will you be able to beat a dedicated gaming PC though. If you want to try to though, your best bet is the NVIDIA Sheild.
Why should anyone talk you out of leaving this phone? This isn't daytime tv... Go find your perfect phone and quit the drama.
If you want to game then get a shield tablet or better yet a console or gaming rig. No phone should or could compare. Phones are communication devices, not game platforms.
I was wondering if the Moto X Pure was a good phone for Software Development? Or should I buy a Nexus 5x?
I don't have money to buy both and I would prefer a Moto X Pure for personal use.
Thanks,
I would definitely get a Nexus.
Overall, I am happy with my MXPE, it's a great phone for the money but I don't see much development here. I am used to the Nexus phones and having a lot of custom roms and choices.
It's true that the Nexus 5x is not as powerful as the Moto X but, you will always get updates on time and will have more custom roms. And, as a plus if you live in the US you can get it at $199 if you join Prroject fi. You can even use the service for a month and if you cancel you keep your device.
Both Phone are superb
I would say it depends on the software development you are doing - if you are trying to make your own Android app, then I don't see why it would make a difference. The Android SDK + IDE will allow you to hook your phone up to your computer and directly run the app on it. If you don't want to do that, you can run an emulator and install the .apk onto your phone later on.
If you want to make your own ROM and hack away, I'd go for a Nexus.
It's darn near the only phone any longer.
All the latest superphones from the major carriers (VZW, ATT, even TMO now) have locked bootloaders anymore.
The Galaxy S and Note series = locked up
The LG G series = locked up
The Sony variant = locked up
I could be wrong about one or two I suppose.
I really only pay attention to the larger screen phones any longer.
AFAIK, the only decent choices for a phone released in late 2015/early 2016 will be the Nexus or Moto X lineup.
Sucks, Man.
As for between the MotoX and Nexus, the Nexus will have better ROM support of course.
But MotoX had more features/size/etc. that I liked above all the Nexus, so I went with it and haven't looked back.
Btw, the new MotoX will be out in August according to the last rumor I read.
EDIT: I guess HTC is one you could look at also. Screen size is too small for me though.
I might try the unlocked gs7. I Don't need much development other then recovery and root.
ROM development... Nexus. App development... Either will do. Want better specs with app development...MXPE. However there is less ROM development for the MXPE, so if developing Roms is your goal, MXPE users will not complain ;^)

Hey All! I posted this on the Moto Z forum, and thought I'd do it here. Looking to get some feedback from the community. I have the Nexus 6p and I have an opportunity to swap it out for a gently used Moto Z. Should I do it, and why?
I've owned the Moto X Pure, and the prior two models of the Moto X, so I'm familiar with Moto's features, which are pretty cool. I just don't know if I'd be making a wise trade. I don't do a whole lot of gaming, but I do use it heavily for work/multitasking. I don't know that I would take full advantage of all the Mods, though. I'm also on Verizon, if that matters.
I'm not unhappy with the Nexus 6p at all, it's a fantastic phone, and I love most everything about it. Just wondering if the Moto Z is worth the change?
Any insight you could provide would be most helpful. Thanks!
do you want a daydream compatible phone? if so.. the Droid Z is your friend.. not the 6p.
(pissed because I got the daydream headset when it launched specifically for the 6p)

At launch, yes.. (which I didn't see until a few days after buying.. and accidentally tossing the receipt)
at initial annoucement.. no
Thanks for the responses. Eh, VR I don't really care about, honestly. Just looking at what the 'better' phone would be.
Is the SD820 really that much of an upgrade? This 6P has the second generation SD810, and I've not had any thermal issues whatsoever. I actually just played some Final Fantasy IV for about an hour and a half and it didn't get warm, really.
I suppose the moto is a little more future-proof, but I guess the question is - is it really worth it? Especially if I'm not going after the mods...
If no mods I wouldn't....If you like customs ROM then don't do it...I have moto z force and like it..I'm on my 6p right now...My daily is the moto z...To me isn't much different at all but I like the mods
