Hello guys
I am not sure if I am the only one being annoyed with it but... I installed a custom ROM ALLIANCE v5.5
I am using the swipe native keyboard from Samsung and so far I LOVE it ... BUUUUUT
1/ when I type a wrong word, I have to delete back letter by letter (in previous versions, backspace button was erasing the full word and it was more friendly)
2/ If I type an entire sentence and I notice some words are wrong, and I need to correct a letter, and press the "proposed word" to go faster, it adds an additional space after.
That may sounds like boring ****, but it is noticeable when you text or write an email to someone...
I remember it was not occuring with previous versions.
I tried to mention it to ALLIANCE ROM thread but no reply.
Any idea where I could get another version?
Thanks guys

Maybe you can test 3rd app like swipe keyboard (the best) or swiftkey
Dunno where you can find the one you search.
What version exactly do you search?
Best regards

OK, this may just be a Pocket PC thing rather than a specific XDA II thing but I'm not sure.
Can anyone tell me if their XDA is learning frequently used words that are not in it's dictionary. For example, my name's Ravi and after a couple of weeks of typing emails, letters etc all ending '... Ravi', it's still not learnt the word. All it suggests is 'Ravaged' (!!)
This morning, I got a bit fed up of this so I created a note and typed in 'Ravi' about 100 times and guess what, it still doesn't learn it.
Is there a trick to getting the dictionary to learn new words or is it just my name it can't stand !!
Maybe someone else can try this and see if it works !
Ravaged
Ravi,
Did you ever sort this out?
I would love to enter a few words (including my name!) in to the database
Ashby
Check out Fitaly. 60 days trial. You will be able to build own shortcuts. And I think it's a much faster SIP then the others.

I'm not sure if the XDA learns new words by itself, but you can add words. Not sure if there's a simpler way, but this (rather complicated one) works:
- open any transcriber-aware application
- write the word you want to add, using keyboard or transcriber
- mark (highlight) the word
- switch to transcriber; if the second row of icons is not visible, tap on the hand icon
- tap on the icon with the red check mark to open the "corrector window" (not sure if this is the correct translation for "Korrekturfenster" ); the highlighted word will appear in the new window
- double-tap anywhere inside the word.
- in the menu that (hopefully) comes up, chose "add to dictionary" ("Dem Wörterbuch hinzufügen")
Voila, you're all set!
But please be careful - I didn't yet find a way to remove words from the dictionary...
Cheers
Daniel
many thanks,
ashby
Never sorted it out - everyone I spoke to said that the OS doesn't add new words. I'm just about to buy Calligrapher - I tried the demo and it's amazing - I'm not sure that this feature is available on this program either though. I guess I've just given up adding new words but I will try Daniel's method outlined above.
BTW I tried Fitaly and what the hell were they thinking ? Is it supposed to be an easier input method than what we have already or is it just designed to fry your brain ?!!
TenGo's pretty decent though !
thanks all
Ravi
Getting Word Completion to learn dutch!
Does anyone know how to change the word completion dictionary on my Qtek 2020 / PPC 2003 to another dictionary / language?
It is said that in PPC 2002 you could swap the file \Windows\user.dct, but not on PPC 2003 (the file is apparently not there).
Try out WordLogic: http://www.wordlogic.net/software.html
Not cheap, but works very well!
i'm using an arabic rom, but when entering text in english, using the standard windows mobile keyboard, i do get the regular pop-up menu with predictive text, but the problem is that the dictionary never learns any new words. for e.g. after typing wanna in a couple of msg's, the next time you start typing wan, i never get wanna in the list, just the standard words that came with the original dictionary??? is there a fix around this??

Not sure if this will help depends on the keyboard your using, on mine just above the letter keys when you start typing it shows a bar with the letters typed on the right hand side it shows a (plus) sign click that and then you can add your new word then click the (Tick) sign
Like I said it depends on what keyboard you are using
Another option is you can search for eT9MyWords this is a program on my ROM which allows input of new words
Hope that helps
ozmoran is correct. On a lot of roms you need to actually enter the word for it to be stored in the memory banks. When you start to type a word, click on the + symbol to the right of the input box. Now type word you want again and from then on it will be saved for future use.
All words saved are saved into the eT9MyWords program which can be found if you go to (depending on which rom your using) Start > All programs. If you open up this program you can also physically add more or delete saved words
Hope this helps
what you guys are describing is when one is using 1 of the htc keyboards, full qwerty, or compact qwerty, but that doesn't apply to the standard windows mobile keyboard; on this keyboard you dont have the horizontal bar with the + sign on the end, and i did try entering the words myself into eT9MyWords, but as i said that only serves the htc keyboards...

Ha Ha roger that
Eureka, i just clicked on the clear stored entries, which is found under settings/input/word completion, and since then, the phone seems to have miraculosly remember any new words i type.
thanks alot for all your thoughts guys.
i use the standard windows mobile keyboard, b/c i have been doing that for so long now, i very comfortable, knowing where every key is, and i'm used to the gesture's too. i guess it just an old habit.
again thanks

Excellent, glad you got this sorted.
Obviously path you provided depends on rom your using. This path doesn't exist for me and predictive text works differently on rom I use. I'm assuming your using stock rom?
yes it's a stock ROM. i didnt want to venture into cooked ROMs, so as not to void my warranty, and luckily i havent, b/c a couple of months ago i had a problem with the LCD screen, and i got that replaced at no charge.
Okay, I know we've discussed this in another thread a bit before but it's really bothering me.
I do like the stock Android keyboard a lot, even though I have the HTC one installed on my AOSP 1.6.
THe problem is that my stock keyboard lacks a dictionary so there is NO prediction whatsoever (except capitalizing days of the week, lol.)
How do I install a dictionary into this thing? And where do I download one?
Can I download an stock ROM from, say, a Sapphire and pull the dictionary?
I could just enter every single word into the phone manually... would certainly expand my vocabulary to read the dictionary like that lol.

There are a few threads on this, do a search for Dictionary with the Posts option checked. You really just have to pull your old dictionary from the keyboard and put it in the new keyboard and it will work. I don't have time to write up the instructions right now.
Using the newer Sense ROMs, transcriber doesn't show up on the list of available inputs while in a text input scenario.
How do I re-enable this to show up in the list, or simply make it the default input method so it's not required to show up in the list?
i'm also missing transcriber for some time....
using energy 2.5 maxsense rom
maybe a strange question:-o
in youre sig you have my rom standing
do you still use it and if so why dont u ask in my romthread you probably have more chance of me seing the problem
now for the answer you couldnt see it in my rom as i didnt cook it in
something that aint cooked in cant be selected
on the other side transcriber is the thing that you could write with youre stylus right?
how often do you use that option and if i may ask where do you use it for as i dont really see the point of it
most of the times i used it it putted down a other letter then i wrote:-o
even if i wrote in capital letters
do a search for transcriber
it's available as cab in several threads

Thanks for your reply, sorry for not returning sooner, but RL has been very troublesome.
I have to alter my sig, but at the time of the post I was still using an iteration of your ROM. I no longer have a Blackstone.
Other than a few aesthetic choices (I prefer a more standard clock and simpler black and white themes), I found your ROMs to be absolutely the best. I'll admit a few other ROMs tempted me with various bells and whistles, but they all had quirks which annoyed/inconvenienced me so I always came back to your rock-solid ROMs.
To answer your questions:
I didn't ask in your thread because I was sure that you had omitted Transcriber intentionally.
Most Blackstone cooks seem to not include it, however, IIRC a certain keyboard used in many Blackstone ROMs also makes transcriber not appear in the SIP when in input mode... hence the general call for information.
Ergonomically, I prefer Transcriber for longer writing sessions... I admit it is a pain to train (it and yourself), but once you get it working nicely it can be more comfortable for writing long lists or taking notes.
Additionally, I tend to have problems with keyboard/finger input methods with resistive touch screens (less so on capacitive touch screens).
Yes, Transcriber pretty much requires the stylus, and is more comfortable if you have a pen sized stylus (I have a Rotring pen/pencil/highlighter/stylus combo and it's wonderful to write with in every mode).
Otherwise the keyboard inputs are more than adequate and are getting better all the time. All the newer phones I lust after seem to have capacitive screens so writing recognition will not be feasible in future phones.
Hi all,
I'm using the Phone Pad, HTC default, Keyboard to type SMS, Mails, Searches etc, cuz i can't handle the qwertz (german) or the simple qwertz key pads. They suck to type SMS (for me)
All works fine (okay, adding the mouth of the smiley ) or ( is a little complicated but manageable).
But... there is a very unlogical order of the different T9 Words. My old Sony Ericsson ordered the words by how often i used them.
I don't need exactly this feature, but to order the words by my own would be nice.
the only accessible workaround is, that i have to add the words manually (then they exists twice).
Then they are the first words the phone suggests me. but this isn't very nice.
do you know some tips to help me with my problem?
how do you handle the sms typing stuff? do you all bought a extra keyboard app in the market??
kind regards
heady2k
I've started using Swiftkey as it does actually learn the words you type. It works well. I personally found it better the default keyboard and better than the much raved about Swype .
I can't post a link but you can find it on app brain.
is it free?
can u modify the words order?

Yes it is free. It learns the words you use most so you shouldn't need to manually edit the word order. Try it and see if it is better for you.

hmm kay, i installed it, tried it, but you only can choose qwerty/qwertz.
i haven't found a phone-pad layout. :/
