Hi folks, I just got a new LG G2 from eBay at this link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171429816155#rwid
I have not used it at all really. It was at 0% battery when it arrived. I charged it, set up my Google account, and left it sitting pretty much. I am concerned about the rate of decline of the battery. I am on still on 4.2.2.
I have heard great things about the battery on the phone, that it can last two days with normal to heavy use and that the battery is a real advantage to this phone.
I have noticed my battery declining at a rate of about 5% per day. I am just letting the phone sit. Everything is off: Wifi, location services, Bluetooth, etc.
The battery settings say the weather widget used 80% of the battery for its GPS queries even though I disabled location services. So I just deleted the weather widget off of the home page but the rate of battery decline seems the same.
I don't have a SIM card in the phone yet so I am wondering if there is energy being used looking for a cellular signal?
I thought maybe the phone might have been sitting on the shelf for a while and the battery has degraded since it is an older phone. Maybe I need to use the battery through a few cycles to optimize its performance.
I was weighing this versus a Samsung S4. I am wondering how people think about this versus the S4 in regards to screen and battery.
Any advice or experience you have about this battery issues I would greatly appreciate. Thanks.
5%/24h= 0.2083333333% per hour seems normal to me but you can try to do a factory reset and make some charging cycles and analyze again the battery info.

strange that your phone comes with 0% battery...thats really not good on the battery, to keep it at 0% for a long period of time=/. But as the above user said, 0.2% per hour is good i guess
Guys, thanks for the feedback. I gave my phone its second full charge and it has been sitting doing nothing for 6 hours and it is still at 100%! So I am happy, that seems reasonable to me. Maybe the battery had to get conditioned or something. I will update if I collect any more stats or I see anything more odd with the battery. I am going to stick with this phone over the S4. Enjoy your G2's folks.
If you aren't using any sim card then I would suggest you to definitely activate air plane mode, because the phone itself is looking for some sim signal every while.
Moreover you should check which synchronization settings are activated. For me I am only using email and contacts synchronization, but there are a lot more.
There are also some GPS settings when you go to your Google account settings, that you should turn off, so that the phone doesn't try to send your location to Google by checking your WiFi. Even when your WiFi is deactivated.
Which LG G2 model, D802?
Hi,
I found the same seller listing on ebay, wanted to ask you, did they really sent you an LG g2 d802 international version. I ask since i found out the many times sellers list this phone as d802 only because its unlocked but on reality is a different model (d801, d800).
By the way how is that phone working for you, all went well?
Kitkat has better idle (according to GSMarena G2 battery test), so you might want to upgrade. Also, give it about a week to calibrate the battery. Battery life is phenomenal on the G2. I usually get 80+ hours battery life with about 4 hours SOT and 15% battery left.
EDIT: just realized this is an old thread...
Hi..... This is my current battery life...calculated 2 daya ago.. Bought this phone in nov 2013.

Not needed. From the pic he attached it's obvious the phone was in standby most of the time.
Man, you even use ya phone?
What is with this obsession of battery life goin on 'round here? I say, as long as you can get better battery life than a stock rom, you've won. Keeping the phone on for a day or two without charging seems like a good idea, but everyday isn't the same, and one day you may need to use it way more than any other day..if you start that day off with only 30% just because you wanted to see how long your battery would last, then you really gotta limit how often you use your phone just so that it can make it till the next time your around a charger.

The battery needs to be charged? I bought my phone back in June. The battery is now at 70%. I figured I just had to buy a new one when this one runs out.
Barely used phone. Come on.
Display 4%? Is that possible?
I can go a full day and a half, 36 hours, without a charge and I am using the original sense android... and I use my phone normally, I text, read usatoday, tmz, check email a few times, use the xda app... and I have wifi on all the time! What's this beef with battery life on these forums? Mine lasts forever! I just have things update manually, I don't let anything run without my permission.
I do, however, turn my phone off the 6 hours I am sleeping.
wifi is on = low battery usage, atleast in my experience.
Indeed. I got 1 day and 19 hours on stock nonrooted 2.2 back. and i used it for some medium texting. and some gps applications...maybe 2-3 hours max awake time. i dont think you used it much...the excessive 3G usage from FB doesnt mean anything.

According to mine, it's 122 min of screen on usage.
I had this scenario on my phone running myn's rls2 + king cfs #11 yesterday:
since unplugged - 24 hours
display on - 1 hour 25 minutes
charge remaining - 50%.
so i wanted to find out how long the battery would last on standby, and to my surprise.. it turned out to be nearly 58 hrs!!! that was on stock sense rom. non-rooted. and of course with very very minimal use. i basically just left the phone alone on my desk or in my pocket all day.
here is the screenshot i took back in july:
but that kind of battery life is unrealistic with normal usage. I am a moderate user (on the higher side), and i typically put my evo on charge everyday in the morning when i get to work (on weekdays). so, the charge on my phone lasts about 25 hrs with normal usage, that usually means about 4-5hrs of Awake Time. this is after rooting the phone. and i am using a stock rooted sense rom. i have had similar results before rooting the phone as well.
on weekends, i find myself charging the phone about 3 times (over 2 days), as the usage of the phone goes very very high.
i have a charger on my desk at work for the weekday charging, and a charger in my car for the weekends.
i have recently installed setCPU, and havent really seen that making too much of a difference, but that perhaps has to do with my usage pattern.
as pointed out in many a threads, signal strength is one major factor when it comes to battery drain. i live in Atlanta and i have great Sprint coverage where I am located, and that makes a world of difference.

it would help if you indicate the battery life that you were getting on stock or any other rom you were using prior to this. because there are so many variables that come into play as far as battery life is concerned. so that will help put your claim into some perspective

I installed OMGB-6 when it was released. Then flashed invisiblek #21 kernel and the new market. Since I last charged it, I've talked on it for about an hour, used the web-browser (Skyfire) fairly moderately, sent a few emails (Gmail), and spent a total of about an hour of GPS through the application WAZE. I'm left at 22% battery left after about 22 hours of use.
I've been fairly lazy with regards to changing the screen brightness, so it's been on about 50% brightness. I've left sync and gps on during the whole time.
I've been using Watchdog as a smart task manager. I have SetCPU installed, but I haven't used it at all.

Don't think you get great battery life when you don't use it much.
I'm in CM 6.1 but that wont really matter.

True, I haven't been using it all that much. But compared to other ROM's I've used, this get much better battery. Everything else I've tried out got me a max of ~12 hours even on idle the whole time.
Definitely try to install the kernel. Can't hurt! Just make sure you always have a nandroid backup available.

50% Brightness?!?!?! Wow....battery life is not worth looking at a dull screen. 100% all the way for me...im using 1800mah from ChiChitech that I got for $20. Seems to help enough.
I'm also running a Gingerbread ROM (Evervolv a17) but can't tell what difference it's making on battery.

Hydra 1.13 overclock kernel, stock ROM, stock battery, auto-brightness. I'm currently at 20% battery after 2.5 days. Light usage over the weekend, but there is an hour and a half of talk time in there and a half hour of reading.
The trick to DI battery life is keeping the data network usage/standby under control. If you're trying to send/receive data with no signal, the phone will burn through its battery in 4 hours and I've used 20% in 15 minutes trying to book a flight on a low signal connection.
Realizing this took me a few months since I live in NYC and as such, go through a lot of signal shadows. Some days my phone would be at 50% battery after 12 hours, other times it'd be dead after 6. I now realize that the short days were caused by sync services trying to run when I was in a shadow. You can diagnose this for yourself by going to the cell standby section of the battery usage. If you're over 10% or so without a signal, you have this problem.
You can handle this manually by holding down the power (on the stock rom) and enabling/disabling mobile network. This is a pain in the ass.
I handle this with some simple Locale rules along with the Mobile Signal and Mobile Data plugins. The first is to shut off the data when there's no signal. The second is to shut off the data at work where I'm usually but not always on a wireless network. The third is to shut down the data during my normal sleep hours and airplane mode if I'm at home.
These easily got me to 36 hours so I grabbed an undervolt kernel, which gets me to 2 days of regular use. Daily I do about 15m of talk, 40m reading news/email on the subway, and another 30 mins browsing/messaging/misc. My monthly data use is ~350MB.
While it is likely true that the OP and others have good battery life under their specific use conditions, battery life in general on smart phones is mediocre to poor at best. I have friends with various different models of smartphone (including iphone) and across the board battery life is not good. The exception is blackberry, but I don't consider those competitive from a tech and feature standpoint. Obviously different people are going to have different opinions and experiences based on the various factors that influence battery longevity.
The solution is to stop worrying about it, get a spare or two or three and pop in a new battery when one dies. This imo is one of the best things about the Dinc and Android phones in general. Just my 2c.
Once we get charged up (and back down), let's see how the battery life in the S4 compares to the quad core.
Please make sure to include your screen on time, as that is the best indicator of light/heavy use.
pleasantly surprised
I can't believe how good the battery has been so far, 84% after 13hours (over night)
I am a light user. still - that is impressive for stock. I never got close to that with my OG Epic on stock which was usually 3% per hour.

Not too bad for first day with moderate to heavy use!
This is heavy usage. Screen on time of 3.5 hours. Downloading Max Payne and a lot of apps. Downloading and listening to audio on Google chrome. Lots of Pulse usage. Games, YouTube, and 30 minutes of phone calls.

Question... Does having all the motion settings on effect the battery? Also does having the NFC and sbeam on hurt the battery?

I wish I could get some stats like that. The screenshots are while I was sleeping and 7% seems like a lot of drain for it just sitting there. Only thing on was wifi. Cell standby time on is always the same as the time on battery, is that normal?
edit: the phone now shows 79% battery left with time on battery of 12h 46m; cell standby the exact same; screen on at 9% with time on of 48m. I'm fully stock and running power save mode.

No, they will carry over until you re-charge or change the battery.
I was going to make a thread like this, but it was already here! Here are my results after my second full charge and regular usage. The results are on par with my fully modified and decked out Epic. Of course, this device has a bigger battery, but it also has a larger screen. Between the hardware and software upgrades, I'm very impressed with the stock battery life. This includes wifi on at all times as well as signal w/data. Some motion features are enabled, nfc is not, and google sync is off (I use stock email). Now how much further can this be improved?? Remember not to be discouraged, Screen On times will vary depending on what the phone is used for. Showing pictures is much less battery intensive than watching YouTube videos.

That's quite average imho, isn't it? I mean after all the great reviews bout a 2-3 day battery life.. Was it more or less similar on the second charge?
Anyone else gettin better results?
I can't give any quantitative data, but qualitatively battery consumption is just awesome. I'm an ingress player so I'm used in measuring phone batteries in terms of ingress usage time. (screen on, GPS on, data on, moving around continously). The battery goes down sensibly more slowly than my previous phone.

Hey Ben it's pretty impressive indeed. Any stamina mode or so activated?
Nope. Just as it comes.
That's pretty awesome. Mine currently lasts around 16 hours, with heavy usage (I'll try to get screenshots in the coming days). Mind sharing the settings you're using?
Wow amazing! Do you mind sharing your app usage as well? Thanks!
That was just with general browsing using Chrome & tapatalk, video streaming using Showbox & BBC iplayer and general messing about with the phone. No games.
Auto brightness is on, stamina is turned off, but I do use greenify (non-root mode obviously) to kill apps when I've finished with them.
Amazing battery for me as well. I used the phone HEAVILY today! Lots of browsing and talk time.
There will be no problem getting over 6 hours on screen time.
This includes a lot of music playing as well, and the total is off by about two hours since I rebooted the phone at the AT&T store.
I had stamina mode enabled for some of that, but only the performance part, I disabled the part that turns off networking when sleeping. I honestly can barely tell any difference (except for longer battery life) between having stamina off/on when it's just the performance part, so I tend to leave it on now.
This is my 2nd day, I have 4h screen time and I'm around 45% now right before going to bed. Should easily get me to 2 days of full usage. Which is amazing. This is just the best smartphone ever if you ask me...

Here are my stats. I literally tried to use it as much as I could while watching NFL all day. I had a ton of usage today with lots of background processes. This is paired with moto360 all day with stamina mode on with exception of gmail and hangouts. One gmail account and exchange for work.
Forgot to mention I also have Acdisplay - came from a motox and can't live without this function now
Two days so far using it from 100 to basically zero.
Not as impress as I thought I would be. Does this seem normal to you guys?
No stamina mode activated because I wanted to see how long it could last alone. I was really hoping for the "2 day" battery life the reviews were raving about.
Think it may get better after a few more days?

Of course. I have double tap to wake on. BT and LTE are disabled unless I need it. Wifi/3G always on. Brightness is at about 30% with ambient sensor on.
Lost 3% over night, but I had a battery drainer app trying to access location all night! And I also really like, in battery stats display and cell standby are on the top. With my Samsung Android system/OS always was on top and it drove me crazy
Btw I'll post stats after another few cycles. This is just a first impression kinda thing with alot of usage time while setting up the phone.
Turned phone into stamina mode before going sleep with 37% remaining. T2w on. WiFi off.
Woke up 8 & half hours later and it dropped only 1%.
This phone is legend in standby mode. Bonkers
Does tap2wake supposedly increase battery drain?
I know it does on phones not designed for it but I figured phones designed for it would have a special kernel or something to reduce drain to normal levels...

This all wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the application called "shut app".. With the s7, edge I was managing about 4hr30 min screen on time and then I installed the app shut app, it closes out all these silly background processes but still allows you to get notifications from Facebook and Instagram.
Once I installed the app the s7 edge had amazing battery life and went increased to about 6 hours screen on.
Now comparing this g5 to the s7 edge, the s7 edge had a major battery drain issue from Android system!! How else do you explain this screen on time doing just as well as the monster battery the s7 edge has??
I obviously have every vibration off, WiFi is only on while I'm at home, I have adguard installed and it just got updated to milestone and I no longer see it in the battery section affecting battery life. I have insurance on my phone so I turn Google location reporting off. I turn off all usage reporting in Google also. I have sync always on, I have too for work. I only have one account syncing, that's my Google.

It was just at 3 hours when I posted those shots. I won't be at my "average" daily use for a few days, but by comparison for me, I was running my droid turbo through a lot of videos and internets same time last weekend, and it was dead by 2pm. So I'm thinking at worse, I haven't compromised time between charges.

So at 57 % of battery you had 3 hours on screen? What brightness do you have?

Auto. I rarely do anything to conserve battery life. I'll report back once I have a "normal" day as well. Probably Monday.

Terrible battery life so far
My battery life is terrible ... I have LG-H820 and after setting it up i'm barely touching it because i'm busy with something ... Even did a factory reset and set it up from scratch again ... No dice ... Look below:
EDIT: My "Screen ON" time is only 41 min.

You have an app that is destroying your battery life. I'd look into it. I've been seeing very positive things for the moment about this phone both here and in forums and reddit.

Yep, some app is trashing my battery ... But the funny thing is that i have no apps installed besides "GSam Battery Monitor". Bone stock and i've disabled some google preinstalled apps (Gmail, Hangouts, Photos, PlayMusic, Google Docs, Sheets) and all of the ATT apps that can be disabled. Not sure what is calling this com.lge.ia.task.informant process that is trashing my battery. Obviously, i've logged in with Google account so i can get access to PlayStore and i've configured my outlook.com email as an Exchange account. My outlook.com account is a must ...
Right now i suspect that the problem is related to the com.lge.exchange (com.lge.ia.task.informant seem as part of it?) but i do not see any problems with my outlook.com account on any other device (i've confiscated my brother's s7 edge for my testing yesterday and today and i've violated my work rules by adding personal email on my work iPhone 6s plus).
Anybody else with this rouge com.lge.ia.task.informant process/service problem?
