FIX UNMOUNTABLE SYSTEM AFTER ROOTING
Let's keep this short and simple.
This allows you to mount system even if you root.
Flash this and thank me. :\
Jokes aside. Just hit the download button.
Technical details:
This disables RIC service and the script is by NUT. RIC prevents R/W when system is booted.
Thx for your work!

EDIT:

Thanks a lot. After 2 days searching i found this. Works like a charm:highfive:
Had an issue with /system, and this has fixed it. NC works, I can still use Xposed, AdBlock, and change my DPI. THANK YOU!
Don't suppose there's any way to fix this without a custom recovery is there?
I've rooted but can't mount/write to my System folder after doing a 4.4.4 OTA update, but I don't have a custom recovery installed. I just rooted using the toolkit and left it at that.

All of you who found that this ain't working, it is because you need to have correct busybox installed. After you have that it works as mentioned.

This is part of @Nutˋs XZDualrecovery and designed to work with busybox that is installed with that. With other busybox it may work or may not.

Hi all!
First off, I'm new to xda Developers so please excuse me if this is in the wrong forum! I thought I'd post information about a tool I wrote here which roots stock 4.0.3 leak on the A500, A501 and assumingly the A200 too. Its literally one click - just enable USB debugging. "ICS Root" also installs, optionally, FaceLock and Trebuchet (although FaceLock doesn't want to work. It lets you set it up though =P)
Since version 5.0.1 this also now works with the new 0.022.00 leak!
The full post is over at TegraOwners: http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=350
The only real system requirements are Windows (with .Net Framework 4) and an Iconia on the stock 4.0.3 leak. I hope somebody finds this useful its been tested by myself and a couple of TegraOwners users and it works well.
In terms of the technique used, it uses the great Jay Freeman's mempodroid exploit to gain root at which point it mounts /system rw and installs su, busybox and Superuser.apk so no real surprises there. Installing Trebuchet adds that apk to /system/app and installing FaceLock installs the apk to /system/app before installing the pittpatt folder to the flexrom (mounted as /system/vendor). I plan to open source it when all the requested features have been implemented and the code has been cleaned up.
Thanks!

why would it not work with cwm version?
With this tool does system remain writeable after rooting?
What about flashing CWM with acer recovery installer once rooted? I guess it would screw the bootloader...

If you are on the cwm with the HC boot loader it should work as Its Magic will be run..
if you are on the new boot loader as in the full non modded leak.. It will give you secure boot error ..
The new boot loader Blocks its magic.
Thanks

After reading the other post, I have found that I cannot write to the system directory from the device itself. The folder attributes indicate that it is set to write, however File Explorer HD will not let me. I have tried to create a folder in the /system and it will not accept the addition. The strange thing is that Root Check says it is rooted, File Explorer HD accepts putting it into Root Explore, but that is it. It is odd. I will try to reapply the Root to see if that makes a difference.

Please, read the op before bringing this up. This method is for half root, its the only way possible right now on stock leak ics. There is a special script you need to use to mpunt system. You can find it in the stock leak thread, run it in terminal or use rom toolbox and set it as a script to run at boot because rebooting loses write privileges.

It features some bug fixes as well as a completely new remount menu which mounts /system rw properly on the fly. Tested with a busybox installer app

Thanks for your tool blackthund3r !
I tried it with the new leak from this morning and it doesn't seem to work anymore
Edit :
Just to be a little more specific, the app says the process was OK and state that the tablet is rooted but the tablet doesn't reboot by itseld and su is not installed. I tried to install su manually but it's unable to find a previous su package on the system.

ah okay it appears a completely new leak has been released. It is possible that the mempodroid exploit has been patched up. I'm gonna look into it soon. I can't much tonight - I have school work. I'll see what can be done and what the differences between leaks are.

Thanks for the update 3.1 but could you please fix the problem on your hosting website? clicking on this file send to an error warning.
The other files can be downloaded though.
can someone post a mirror to the 3.1 version? current link is not working.
can somebody also confirm, if i root with this tool, i will be able to reinstall my clockworkmod recovery through 'acer recovery installer' and flash any other cwm rom? or do i have to downgrade to honeycomb 3.01, install iconiaroot for honeycomb and then acer recovery installer?
Gersma,
I'll be able to answer to your question as soon as I'll be able to download this tool and test it.
Hi Guys,
Fortunately the Bootloop in XZDR for Z-Series Lollipop was solved with 2.8.16. But I was experiencing Problems with not mountable /system Partition in all 3 Recoveries. So I decided to implement a Workaround by modifying/creating 2 Files (init.rc, xzdualmount.sh) inside the Recovery-Ramdisks (recovery.xyz.cpio.lzma) , which is solving this Problem.
Please keep in mind that this is an modded, unofficial Version.
Downloads:
Mega: TabZ-lockeddualrecovery2.8.18-UNOFFICIAL.flashable.zip
Mega: TabZ-lockeddualrecovery2.8.18-UNOFFICIAL.installer.zip

Sometimes TWRP is saying something like "No OS installed" if your reboot to system again. This is because it tries to mount /system before my workaround is executed, which is not working, and then remembers this. You can ignore this message.
Flashing/Reflashing Firmware (while you are already on Lollipop) created by PRFCreator is somehow destroying this Workaround. So don't do that!!! You will loose Root-Access!!!
Looks like Restoring own Backups is detroying Workaround , too. Sorry
As a Workaround for this Workaround (*LOL*) you can temporarily flash Kitkat-Kernel , reboot straight into recovery again and Flash your own BAckups or PRF-Flashables the normal way.
With 2.8.18-UNOFFICIAL (see links above) those Problems should be solved
New Workaround Description: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=5544
With Version 2.8.19 and above those Problems should also be solved in official Releases.

Yes this has to be done every time you boot into recovery again.
A quick question. A little confused by some of the terminology being used.
I am currently running a lp rom on my xperia tab z made through prf creator which was rooted, can I use this recovery or best to use [NUT] ver 2.8.17.
Thanks in advance

didn't test it yet, but it can mount ext SD to flash .zips. So i presume answer is yes.
The work around is working on my tabZ..by the way, if you accidentally flash/reflash a zip using prfCreator, you can re-root it using KingRoot and remove KingRoot using one of the procedure in the General Section.
Btw, the flashable.zip of the work around did not work. But the windows installer works perfectly..thanks for the solution!!
I've added a new unofficial Version, with different Workaround. This should solve problems with flashing PRF or backups.
I have tried for my ZL.
This Unofficial mount now "/system".
Update the binary fix root.
Thx.

That's normal. You used the TabletZ Version of XZDR. So Resolution is optimized for TabZ.

Basically Nougat made harder to write system partition. That zip applies a workaround making the default hosts file (/system/etc/hosts) a symlink to another host file in a writable mountpoint (/su/etc/hosts). You can find more info here https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/issues/770.

It is the same issue as discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-to-unlock-tethering-nexus-5x-t3231301/page20
The workaround described above doesn't change /system (which would get error corrected back to original), but instead masks the file in /system with an alternate one during boot.
Thank you very much. It works like a charm.

Yes, this "trick" essentially writes the hosts file to another location, and creates a symlink to it. This way it doesn't need to write to the /system/ directory.
There is a one-line command you can run in terminal emulator that lets you write to /system, but you need to run it each time you reboot, and it's a bit of a nuisance to do so. This lets Adaway work each time without the necessity of a terminal command.

Just an FYI, if you install SuperSU you can write to system and it will stick. You wouldn't need to do anything each boot in that case.

That is a different problem than the one on stock Noguat then.
On stock without dm-verity disabled, the kernel will use forward error correction to "fix" you changes (ie data corruption) and replace with original. Basically you make the changes and they don't show up.
Nougat , flashed and no app installed, I downloaded adway from official website and working.
Link to original thread just for sure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753
Please create Update for Android O.
AdAway works fine on O; no change from Nougat.

Give a chance like.
Take full system backup
Then copy system backup to your PC
Rename system.squashfs.win to system.ext4.win
As well as if system.squashfs.win* exists rename as same.
Format your system partition as ext4 using twrp.
Copy the system.ext4.win to your mobile and restore the backup.

Hey there,
AirAudio has been kicked by Google because they didn't like a link to a rooting-website inside the description anymore, written 7 years ago.
Its successor is called AirMusic and allows to stream some apps (eg. YouTube, YT Music, Deezer, PodcastAddict , radio.de, Plex and more, you have to try it out) without root on Android 10+.
On rooted devices, all audio can be transmitted.

I have a problem with rooted tab4 tablet.
When i remount /system to rw, device hangs/freezes (stop responding).
Tested with magisk and SuperSU.
Android 7.1.1
EDIT:
I figured out.
It's necessary to flash through TWRP, a magisk module from dywersant's post.
When module is enabled, it's possible to mount /system as rw, but device will not pass SafetyNet test.
When module is disabled, /system is mounted as ro, any change on this partition will freeze device, but it will pass SafetyNet test.
I use this module only when I Have to.

What's news? Is there any other way?
I use Magisk 20.3 or 20.4 on my two tablets.
One tablet is under stock Android 8.1.0
and another is under LineAgeOS16 - Android 9 Pie.
Both, give su for applications and ADB, but don't have system root for system folder.
@krchat - did you try installing the zip in this post to see if you could write /system?

It's a complete pain. I heard its problems with Magisk? Anyhow I installed magisk 19.3 - booted then installed the remount zip, rebooted again - checked the system was RW, then installed magisk 20.4. All seems well for me

Hello, have you found a way to write to the system partition? My los17.1 write system partition will freeze. I'm going crazy!
