Root
You can't root your phone I9500DXUEMJ5 without tripped knox.
In fact, there is only one solution : use Kingo root app.
But... XDA does not approve this app because it seems send data to China when you try to root your phone with this tool.
Sorry for my english, I hope you understand what I wanted to say.

Root S4
For people who want to root, no need to say more (if no problem with knox flag) because like it was said before : CF-Auto-Root is the best tool.
I would like to ask you if it's possible to root GT-I9505 (Android 4.3) with Mobile ODIN Pro via Everroot method without tripping flag to 0x1?
I read some posts in this thread (Galaxy Note 3) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522729 - and there are people who did that on Note 3. Here is small tutorial from user who did that. Do you think that this will work on S4 ???

Yes. Just did it. Knox remains 0x0.
And what about flashing KitKat ? Can Mobile ODIN Pro root also 4.4.2 without tripping KNOX ?

I have done just that. You have to be rooted for mobile odin pro to work but it will keep root after flashing new firmware. It works. Check my post here:

Just read on xda somewhere to not
To use cf autoroot . So whats the best way to root my device.
If you still have android 4.3 jelly bean then use root De la Vega. That version doesn't unlock the counter in Knox

Cf auto root is fine provided you accept that it will trigger Knox to 0x1.

Rooting will allow root apps to work. If you want to remove knox then flash a custom rom.

As a relative newbie I find the above undecipherable. What is cf root? I just got a note 3 and none of the "one click" programs succeed. I got developer options visible and usb debugging turned on. What do I do next and where can I get cf root whatever it is. I still have twrp leftover from my s3. Any use?
Thanks for the help!

CF-Autoroot :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
Read the thread carefully before you continue, find the suitable file for your Android version. You never provide the details of your device.
Btw, your somehow "leftover" from your S3, are not usable anymore.
Different device need different methods of rooting, recovery, and ROMS. No other device tools can be used for cross device unless with a proper code porting.
Cheers.

SM-N900V VZW version of Note 3
VRUBMJE
Android 4.3 (yuck)
Thanks in advance and yes I rooted my S3 and got frustrated when they pushed 4.3 out. I had to re-root and I never could find a launcher I liked for it. I bricked my S 3 a few times finding my way around. From advice found here I succeeded in recovering several times. I have TRW on the phone but I'm assuming it won't be that useful.

Your welcome. .

Hi,
I rooted Note 3 with towelroot recently and my knox is still 0 and would like to keep it that way. Would also like to keep all my settings and apps if possible too. I haven't flashed any roms or anything like that. Only thing I've done is grant some of my apps root access and downloaded an app that required root (which since then I've uninstalled). Now however I see a new firmware update is available for my Note 3 and would like to update to it. I'm sorta new to the Android scene, so don't know where to start to do this, so would appreciate any guidance.
Is there also anything I should do while on root before I unroot?
Thanks
@XLAAX you dont need to unroot to upgrade firmware. Use odin method to upgrade it.
You will find it on sammobile

So what will happen when I unroot using this? Will the phone be unrooted again or will it keep root? Also will knox be tripped using this method?

Hmm, I was under the impression that you need to unroot your phone to upgrade the firmware. If this isnt the case, then no real need to unroot I suppose.
What about Android L? Will I need to unroot for that? (Realise you can't predict such a thing, but has there ever been a case where you needed to unroot for an android firmware?)
EDIT: Oh and for future knowledge, how should I handle OTA updates? Should I not update that way if I'm rooted?

Yes that will trip knox.
I don't exactly know about trip knox
It's void waranty only or are there more to know about?
I have root with cf-autoroot because that was the only solution I found for my tab 4

Yes it only voids your warranty that's all. You could of tried towelroot v3 to root by opening the app and tapping at the top where it says towelroot v3 three times then put this number in 1337 0 1 7380 4 0 but if you aren't worried about warranty CF-Autoroot works just fine.
yes I have tried with towelroot v3. First time works great but after update it doesn't work for me.
I have tap 3 times and changed also to different codes. I have read there are 3 different codes.
It does not matter if its voids warranty for now, because all works fine for me.
Is there a solution to unroot, to get warranty or can I never use my waranty because I root the tab 4 with cf-autoroot?

Once you trip knox you can't go back and undo it. Nobody has figured out a way to reset it yet.

I'm more interested in completely removing knox software, I know the related system apps to remove in TiBu and searched and deleted anything "knox" in a root-enabled browser, but I also noticed knox coming up in the build.prop, specifically the following lines:
Code:
ro.build.knox.container=
persist.sys.storage_preload=1
ro.securestorage.knox=true
ro.config.knox=1
Is it worth changing any of these lines or am I blundering my way towards bricking my device?
I wouldn't recommend for you to remove ANY lines of code that may or may not brick your device
You could always just re-flash a ROM or make a backup with TWRP
??
