I haven't used adb cuz i havent been able to set it up. But i have flashed Damaged control succesfully by mounting the zip on the sd card. i flashed it a couple times since ive tried installing Nexus one launcher by flashing from sd card but nothing just messed up rosie. i couldnt restore my older Rom it kept telling me use adb. Fail lol but i flashed damage control 2.05 back and working fine maybe faster. What i want to know is how to get the nandroid restore fixed or working for emergencies.
alt f4 fixes it all
huh? Confused..
he was trying to be "smart" and gave you a bogus answer if you combo press alt + F4 it will exit your screen... Not really sure what your question is though if you are asking as to why your Nandroid won't restore properly it's because you have to "wipe" your cache before doing a nandroid if you are going back to a version that is different than the currently flashed rom. Hope this helps if not then ... perhaps you could re-phrase your question.

The only way I fixed that is by running the nandroid restore through adb like it says to do. I don't understand how you don't have adb installed but you have the phone rooted? I had to get all that working to root my phone and having adb is an invaluable tool anyway.
I did read that the nandroid error sometime comes up when the sdcard is too full so you could see if that is the case. Also, as someone suggested you could try a factory reset/wipe and then try again to nandroid through recovery.

Yup,i don't even have a pc (seriously I don't)
I did run into this problem though, not sure exactly what I did but it worked itself out, maybe try flashing a different recovery image,Or try keeping phone plugged into charger(not sure what significance that has but it did seem to go for me after I was having those problems) which recovery image do you have?
Did you rename the Nandroid backup you were trying to restore to? If you did, and the file name has a space in it, it will tell you to restore via ADB. Just a thought from the limited info you provided.
I had this problem and it fixed itself out and all i did was wipe everything thats under the wipe option in recovery and it worked for me.
Yeah it was actually the cache you guys were right. i did it on my own and thought that might be it. and now i know that was it from checkin the thread. yeah i used pre kitchen to auto root my phone. im actually running damage control 2.05 now the newest sprint leak.damn i love it lol. but imma reflash it cuz i tried to flash a nexus theme/ no luck i want a nexus one interface!!!!!
I'm not entirely sure what I did, but I think I just bricked this thing. Is there any way to restore the apps that I deleted off my Hero? I basically can't do anything with it. I can make phone calls but that's about it. I get a force close message that says "com.htc.RosieUtiltiy has stopped unexpectedly" and won't do anything than show me a phone pad after that.

The problem I'm having is that I can't access anything through the PC either. Basically, I'm in over my head without a snorkel. I have the nandroid backup I made when I rooted the phone but don't know how to restore it.
Edited to add: When I say I have the backup, I mean it's on my PC but I don't know how to get it from there to the phone or even get past the dial pad.

Go into recovery mode and there is an option to connect to PC from there. I think its the second option. There u can transfer things to ur ad card. Once u get what u want to flash on ur SD card go to wipe and wipe the first two options and then either go to flash from SD or backup/restore nandroid. This is all from recovery. (Where u hit power and home button at same time when phone is off
At this point, you should turn your attention to a microsd adapter/card reader. Take your microsd card out of the phone (make sure it's safe to remove), put it in the card reader, and plug the card reader into your pc (if your pc has a slot for it). Transfer your backup from the pc to the cardreader. When finished, take the sdcard and put it back into the phone, and voila, you should now have your backup from the pc on your phone.

All I'm seeing when I go into the recovery mode is an option to clear storage. When I do that, it pulls up an option to reset phone which reboots the phone to the same problem I'm having. Am I doing something completely wrong?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373008
I get the error
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
any ideas what could be causing this? Im pretty new to android... used to have an Iphone
ps: when I start CWM it says "This version of CWM manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer.
It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features has been disabled."
and also when entering recovery mode I get an error which says "Can't access to '/system/csc/XEF/system/"
my phone is a mess now ((
ive flashed kernel with cd-root 5.0 ..then seemed like cwm issue was fixed
then i added auto brightness update and now the phone is totally messed up :O
when phone started it didnt ask for pin... i keep hearing the samsung boot sound and the screen goes on and off with menu showing..
please someone help the noob (
i am able to go to recovery mode...any chance i can redo the last mess i did??
Ok, hope you have made a backup (nandroid or Titanium), because now that you are in this situation the best way to recover is to flash an other ROM (custom or stock) and wipe cache & Dakvik-cache, depending if you use a WIPE or NON-WIPE Rom, you might get back your "stuffs". Try first to flash a Stock NON WIPE ROM for your country for ex. and clear cache and dalvik and see how it goes, you might have to manually clear data from som apps that will FC (or even uninstall and reinstall them if clear data is not enough) but has long that you have access to CWM your note is not brick you can always "repair" it good luck.
When you wanted to try patch/mod apk:
- first verify it apply to your build (KKA or such)
- second do a nandroid, and if anythings goes wrong you can always restore to previous state
Good luck
PS: for the kernel missmatch it is not that big of a deal, some kernel have been built in order to have access to some features from CWM from the running OS itself while other does not, but has long that you can go manually in CWM you can do manually all things from there

thanks for the reply..
another noob q... when I rooted it the first time I just put the stock rom onm y sc card and flashed, but now since it wont go to the phone menu, my pc cants see my phone...
so the question is, how do i put the rom file on the phone to flash it?
I dont have a microsd reader either
btw
i did take a titanium back ..its on the phones sd card
Ok, do you have another phone or sdcard reader somewhere, in order to transfer the ROM in it then you can put it back in your NOTE and flash it. If not you are in a not so good situation, you can always go to CWM plug the usb cable, go to advance settings mount the sdcard and with adb you can push the ROM in your sdcard.
For adb, you have to install KIES to have to right driver, then download adb from android sdk then from a command prompt go to your adb folder (put the ROM in it) and then from the command "adb push MYROM /sdcard/" and you you should see it transfer to your sdcard.
For the titanium, it will be use only if you use a WIPE rom and once booted OK install Titanium and restore everythings. GL

This little issue should not scare you that much, the things you should remember from that is to always make a nandroid backup before falshing anythings or changing things.
Do not stop "messing" around your phone because a that experience, go for it but REMEMBER ALWAYS HAVE A VALID BACKUP.

well ..titanium backup screwed me pretty good... apparently sms/contacts was not backed up by default
For contact use google sync and your google accounts
For sms use SMS backup and restore or some other backup (some apk can backup your SMS in your gmail account also)
Sorry to hear for your "lost"
That is why you should always have a nandroid to be able to extract what (backup the working one, restore the old one backup your contaact and email, then restore your new ROM and restore your missing stuffs) is missing and restore to your new ROM

It was my own fault. I took for granted that titanium backed up everything by default I acrtually had sms backup/restore on the phone.. hehe
well... these stuff happen when Im on new platforms. Im gonna go trough this forum to figure more about flashing costume roms.
I tried flashing X-Note 6.0 and things have gone sour from there. I keep getting bootloop, i'm able to do initial setup until it asks me for gmail, once i input my address, it pulls my name and when it asks me to confirm it, it restarts the phone. Then im able to finish setup, but as soon as i'm back and i reboot again, im stuck in infinite bootloop.
I tried reverting back to stock via odin, but i got bootloop again, fortunately for me, after about 1h, it booted back into OS and i was able to root and reinstall twrp.
I dont have a backup of my EFS, again i'm not even sure thats the real problem, can anybody please help?
EDIT: On stock the bootloop is not infinite, after about 10 minutes the phone eventually boot back in OS

Please help me someone. I tried the EFS fix here with no success. I tried to restore via odin, factory reset, every time i finish initial setup and restore my apps and reboot, it bootloops.
Shot in the dark, but disable auto installing of apps/restoring apps. Could be that it is triggering the bootloop due to an incompatible app with X-Note.
If no good. You gotta be brave and strip that badboy back with a full wipe/dalvik/cache, reflash your stock image (get shot of recovery also) then see if it can get past the bootloop (don't forget to remove your SD Card also if you have one) - Give it shot, see what you come up with.
Also if you're on an N9005 model, head over to Djembays thread and grab an image of him, seems to have gotten a lot of people out of issues (JayTheNut uses his images when he messes up) -
Lemme know how you get on, I'll have a nose around see what else it could be.

Ah ok, so that changes the playing field a little. - Give @CalcProgrammer1 a Message, he uses the W8 and the guy certainly knows a thing or two about it. All I can think of at this time.
EDIT: actually thinking about it, you haven't upgraded your bootloader by mistake have you?
I have a feeling background WiFi scanning is enabled in Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced - I don't think any of the newer ROM updates ever managed to have that not bootloop your phone on reboot. In case you're stumped and can't find the setting, you'll have to hit the menu key on the WiFI screen.

I dont think so, unless flashing Xnote 6.0 or using odin to restore stock does that. Thats pretty much all I did, but i think i might have done something that might have fixed the problem, i'm not sure yet, but i'll confirm shortly

I use the N900T (T-Mo) version, though I guess it's pretty similar to the W8. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the efs side of things on the N900T or equivalents. I've been avoiding the backup and restore functionality in TWRP since it was widely reported to cause bootloops in the first few weeks after release anyways. Have you tried the bootloop fix method over at the T-Mobile N900T forum? I forget what the process exactly was but people reported great success using it (including those who intentionally recreated the problem to test the fix). I did have a similar boot loop issue on my Note 1 which was fixed doing a complete Odin restore with a full factory image (bootloader, system, modem, kernel, recovery, etc. - the entire complete factory restore). I don't know if such a package exists for the N900W8 and that's something I wouldn't use the wrong variant's version of.
odin was one of the first thing i tried, as mentionned the problem was on 100% stock device. Now i've tried formating SD cards and i was able stop the bootloops but now instead i get a worse problem when my phone keep giving me force closes and everytime i dismiss one, another one pops back up and its just a FC Loop:crying:
I have an W8...I also had terrible boot loop problems and I can't quite remember the cause, but this is what fixed it.
Obviously I can't stress enough to read this and type this in very carefully, and that if your phone stops working, turns into a robot, explodes, or tries to kill your dog I'm not responsible .
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Hit "Advanced" Select "Terminal Command"
3. Hit "Select" (lower right corner)..Do not select any specific folder, just hit select..
4. keyboard will open, type in the following commands, make sure you put the spaces and / where they need to be, it needs to look exactly as outlined..
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
Hit Go - The command will run.
Clear the box, type the following command
mkdir /efs
Hit Go - The command will run.
Clear the box, type the following command
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /efs

Hey dude i think xnote 6 is mk2 based, so what basically is going wrong is that you're trying to downgrade your bootloader. please try flashing an mk2 stock rom ( or an mj7) via odin, that should fix it ..
just my 2 cents
Hi guys i tried everything my phone was in a constant state of bootloop and wouldnt connect to any carrier. Then i came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2567133 and now my phone is working, still wont connect to a carrier but the phone is now stable which is a good thing. Hope this helps some of you :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for all the input, as of now, i was able to stop the boot-looping on stock rom, but I do still have major issues like i cannot install twrp, by goomanger it tell me its done but when i reboot into recovery, i end up in stock recovery. And yes, i'm rooted. Also i cannot format my SD card from the OS, it keep telling me the card is being checked all the time. I also have a lot of other small issues that should not be there on a fresh install. i honestly dont know what screwed up so bad but i will try some of the solutions mentioned above and report back.

Hi there,
Its been a long time using the Note 3 since 2013. It had many issue but still carried on. But few days back when weak up in the morning saw the phone was off, though it was in charge full night. When turned it on it stuck in the Samsung glowing logo and nothing after that, it keep showing the same logo until it power is gone. Don’t know what happened that night, it was installing an update by itself or not.
Then google it and no steps helps, used odin and reflash with latest firmware from sammobile but that too didn’t help. I’ve lots of data in internal storage including sms and contacts and pictures. I’ve no issue to throwing off the phone but I cant lost all data in it, it will be a huge loss as just became a father and lots of pics on my new born baby, so you can understand the value.
Can anyone suggest how can I recover the data? Check the attachment for its current state. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how viable, but have you tried to install a custom recovery (TWRP, won't erase your media) and access recovery, connect to the computer and enable MTP.
It would be totally up to you.

With the TWRP flash after done can I connect to my PC to get the data back? or do I only have to copy it to memory card? If so then can I use an OTG pendrive to copy? issue is I dont have so large free memory card to take backups.

With TWRP all you have to do is to boot into recovery and select the "Mount" option en check if MTP is enabled. After that your PC should recognize your phone as storage and you can recover/move anything from the internal SD card to the computer or to a USB drive if you want, or just save it to the PC. However, this will only allow you to recover things you have saved in your internal memory. This only includes photos, videos, whatsapp files, etc.... and not contacts, SMS and app settings.

ok thanks for the details, I've set everything and just waiting to hit the start button for TWRP Recovery. Before doing just wanted to know isnt their any file that I can copy and replace in other phone like contact.spb which stored all contact data (just for example)
And If I do the TWRP Recovery, after those backup done can I go back to the original recovery just by flashing it again? then I will look for another way to turn on the phone?

I think it IS possible to return to previous recovery (I've never attempted it) but you'd have to find the file to flash via Odin and try to return that way.
I'm not sure about moving your contact information from one phone to another by the method you described, I always sync my contacts via my Google account so usually any other phone I sync with Google has all my contacts.

With the TWRP I managed to take all contents backup except contacts and sms, I also took the action memo folder and I've another note 3 neo and I will try to copy paste to see if that works.
After the backup done from TWRP when I boot to system the TWRP option never again, even by going to recovery menu it went to the stock recovery option. Any idea how to take the contact and sms backup?

Hi, Thank you, I never payed with the phone and neither rooted though I'm a IT guy. With the twrp I couldnt see the root folder, though I checked to mount system but still not. I dont know how to root it, just want to throw the phone off after taking backup. Now trying with the CWM recovery and taking a full backup, dont know even it can be restored in other phone, looks like the backup is very larger. I've feb month contact and sms backup I used kies to do it. But recently my new card pin sent by the bank sms and cant use it until I get it.
Experience with this phone:
After 6month vibration gone
after 2 year charging port gone
Replaced at service station and thereafter no tower in room, no 3g, only 2g. 3g if I only if I go out side still only 20%time I get 3g.

Thats very important.
But phone only stuck in bootloop.
If bootloop everything can be solved.
The only problem you need to save data

I believe it is easy to fix by wipe cache
Did you ever do wipe cache in recovery?
If never do that, try wipe cache and dont wipe other things.
After that reboot, see if that bootloop still there.
99% success if what you said is correct.

Root by flashing CF Auto Root via Odin then boot into recovery and now try the Mount "System" option and see if you can now access files from the root of the phone.

Yes I know the issue is bootloop but how to solve this? I also tried few software for auto fix like fonepaw-android-data-recovery but nothing helped.
I can take the full system backup from CWM, the backup is very large like over 10GB but there have no option to take sms and contacts only. I dont know even with the backup I can restore it in other phone. If possible, restore and then I can take the sms and contact backup from there.
I did wipe cache partition 100 times. Nothing helped.

Most likely, yes. I've never done it, but you could also search for a .??? extension reader (depends on what file extension the contacts and sms files are, not really sure) on google and try to read them that way, it is a high possibility that you might find software for your PC specifically designed to read those files.
Heck, you might even be able to open them with a text reading app, who knows.

Not so sure if this work for you but work for me, long time not using Stock ROM.
Just flash TWRP by Odin
After finish with Odin go to recovery mode
Go to advance then file manager
At root folder, go data/data
Backup what you want save to SD
But I believe our contact location is same
Mine at /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
If fail you need root
Inside contact folder got .db files
You can read using root explorer, root explorer got sql lite reader, you can read it.

Great, thanks for your help and feedback. I'm trying again today and let you know what happens. With a CWM version I think my phone is rooted but not sure. While installing I saw the CWM saying rooting for a sec and then restart.
So after few days I got some time to work on it. I did CWM Recovery and took the full backup and the format and reset. Now the phone turned on and restored the backup by CWM but again its in Boot loop. Now what to do? and yes I think its rooted now.
I only need contacts sms and action memo, thats all
