Okay, I screwed up - Hero CDMA General

I'm not entirely sure what I did, but I think I just bricked this thing. Is there any way to restore the apps that I deleted off my Hero? I basically can't do anything with it. I can make phone calls but that's about it. I get a force close message that says "com.htc.RosieUtiltiy has stopped unexpectedly" and won't do anything than show me a phone pad after that.

Lmao no man u didn't brick. Only one way to do that and that's to flash a GSM radio. Just dl and flash a different rom. Make sure u wipe data and dalvik before flashing a new rom.

The problem I'm having is that I can't access anything through the PC either. Basically, I'm in over my head without a snorkel. I have the nandroid backup I made when I rooted the phone but don't know how to restore it.
Edited to add: When I say I have the backup, I mean it's on my PC but I don't know how to get it from there to the phone or even get past the dial pad.

Go into recovery mode and there is an option to connect to PC from there. I think its the second option. There u can transfer things to ur ad card. Once u get what u want to flash on ur SD card go to wipe and wipe the first two options and then either go to flash from SD or backup/restore nandroid. This is all from recovery. (Where u hit power and home button at same time when phone is off

At this point, you should turn your attention to a microsd adapter/card reader. Take your microsd card out of the phone (make sure it's safe to remove), put it in the card reader, and plug the card reader into your pc (if your pc has a slot for it). Transfer your backup from the pc to the cardreader. When finished, take the sdcard and put it back into the phone, and voila, you should now have your backup from the pc on your phone.

All I'm seeing when I go into the recovery mode is an option to clear storage. When I do that, it pulls up an option to reset phone which reboots the phone to the same problem I'm having. Am I doing something completely wrong?

The backup is on the card already. The problem is not being able to access anything from the phone aside from the dialer.

Uninstalling custom rom and/or Unrooting phone

This is a guide we should have just in case people want to go back to normal. Can anyone say step by step how do we unroot our phone and how do we uninstall a custom rom.
Thanks in advanced, this will help people if they ever want to go back.
EDIT.. I figured out one sure way to uninstall a custom rom, and that is to just restore your nandroid backup that you should have made before you installed the rom.
Just factory reset the phone.
if you run RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release.exe it will be like the way you got it. Unrooted and stock
you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622

That won't work because when you load a custom rom, it effectively "becomes" the factory image.

yes it will make it so its just like you got it on day one new in the box
yup, RUU will unroot your phone, delete all installed apps and settings to include call logs, sms's, or anything else you have on your phone.
Pictures and some downloads are automatically downloaded to your sd card so those should be fine.

Trying to restore and nandroid is saying run " nandroid-mobile.sh restore" on console.. any ideas why.
I backed up nandroid on my PC and then formated the SDcard for App2sd but then realized that I formated off my pictures. Kind of hoping those were saved in the nandroid backup.
Has anyone actually attempted to un-root using this RUU utility?
A couple users at androidforums are trying to go back to stock and running into problems - the app it telling them something along the lines of 'you cannot use this utility with your phone, please use the correct utility'
I can't remember exact verbage atm - but something along those lines.
I'm running linux and don't really trust trying this through a Windows VM, else I'd answer my own question here.

First download + install HTC Sync. Verify that HTC Sync can see your phone. If not, you need to uninstall drivers, unplug your phone, plug it back in and have windows find the drivers again for you. EDIT: Just a note, on my Vista comp HTC Sync didn't recognize it for me so I had to pull out a comp with XP on it. Windows 7 I don't know. Vista still works though, I just think I did something funky to the drivers on there.
Next, just exit HTC Sync or leave it running doesn't matter.
Now, while your phone is plugged in Download the RUU exe. Run it, follow directions. Voila. Everything wiped back to brand new out of the box HTC rom.
Thanks TOKi
I did but I dunno if my phone is unrooted or not. Anyway to check this?
Plus my phone is deactivated and I have no idea how to reactivate it. Haha.

I have tried several times. Each time I cannot get past the "waiting for bootloader" part. It must have something to do with replacing the recovery partition with RA-heroc-v1.2.3.
Anyone else have this issue?

Want To Install A Rom

I rooted today, and I want to install damages rom. I've downloaded it, and I need some guidance. I have no idea where to go from here and don't see directions in the thread.
Anyone? eek! nervous
power off the phone
hold home and press the power button
let go of home when it vibrates
go to wipe..
wipe everything
go back to flash. flash the zip file.
reboot.
reboot takes forever.
what about a backup, should I run the nandroid backup and do a backup or a backup + ext I think it said or similar?
I want to make sure I can revert back to my 1.5 rom.
Do I also need to take all the damangecontrols zip file contents and put em on my sd card?

Good quick guide. They should all be so simple. Although I don't go the home/power way (unless adb isn't connecting). I use adb shell reboot recovery. Just my 2cents.

Yes, you need to nandroid. You only use nandroid+ext if you're using a2sd/apps2sd.
No, just put the zipfile on the SD card.
When you get into recovery (either the home+power on, or the adb shell reboot recovery method) AFTER doing your nandroid backup, then select 'flash zip from sd card' and select the ROM zipfile you put on the SD card.
KCarpenter's not kidding about the reboot. I've seen the first boot after installing DC's 2.0.8.1 take 15-30 minutes. So after flashing it, reboot and go take a shower or something.

Going from 2.x to 2.x yes. I never had any luck migrating those from 1.5 to 2.1. All I ever accomplished was a lot of Force Closes and problems, so I just said screw it and stopped trying.

Lock clockwork recovery - Incredible

I have an HTC Incredible - Does anyone know if there's a way to lock clockwork recovery down so there's a more secure way to prevent unauthorized access to my recovery screen?

They could do a data wipe or brick his phone doing something stupid.
They could also delete my rom backups - I keep these backed up on an iscsi on my local network, however you never know. I'm just being paranoid!

Need help!

Hey all, got a little problem here. I rooted my Iconia just fine but when I tried to install a custom ROM, the tablet got stuck at the "Acer" splash screen. Nothing I do helps, not factory resetting, not hardware resetting, nothing. With Volume Up + Power, I can get into Clockwork Recovery just fine but that's about it! Help me!
If you can get into clockwork, you should be able to restore the backup you made of your existing install.
You did make a backup, right?
If not, you should be able to find a full download of the stock rom in here somewhere and flash that.
good advice
As long as you can still get into cwm you should be fine.
Did you remember to clear cache/battery/davak before flashing? I personally do the clear before and after. Could always try reflashing the rom if you did not do this.
Failing that, restore your backup.

Regretfully, I was not able to restore my backup. Don't know what happened to it. Even if I do find a copy of the stock ROM, how can I download it to my tablet if I can't get past that screen?

Everyone starts somewhere. Flashing a custom ROM was maybe a strange place to start, but at least they tried to make a backup first.
I see lots of others on here that don't even bother to do that.
Thanks everyone for their assistance. I was able to borrow my co-workers USB card reader and downloaded Virtuous Xoom onto my microSD. Flashed the ROM and now all is well.

Urgent help require for recovering data

Hi there,
Its been a long time using the Note 3 since 2013. It had many issue but still carried on. But few days back when weak up in the morning saw the phone was off, though it was in charge full night. When turned it on it stuck in the Samsung glowing logo and nothing after that, it keep showing the same logo until it power is gone. Don’t know what happened that night, it was installing an update by itself or not.
Then google it and no steps helps, used odin and reflash with latest firmware from sammobile but that too didn’t help. I’ve lots of data in internal storage including sms and contacts and pictures. I’ve no issue to throwing off the phone but I cant lost all data in it, it will be a huge loss as just became a father and lots of pics on my new born baby, so you can understand the value.
Can anyone suggest how can I recover the data? Check the attachment for its current state. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how viable, but have you tried to install a custom recovery (TWRP, won't erase your media) and access recovery, connect to the computer and enable MTP.
It would be totally up to you.

With TWRP all you have to do is to boot into recovery and select the "Mount" option en check if MTP is enabled. After that your PC should recognize your phone as storage and you can recover/move anything from the internal SD card to the computer or to a USB drive if you want, or just save it to the PC. However, this will only allow you to recover things you have saved in your internal memory. This only includes photos, videos, whatsapp files, etc.... and not contacts, SMS and app settings.

And If I do the TWRP Recovery, after those backup done can I go back to the original recovery just by flashing it again? then I will look for another way to turn on the phone?

I think it IS possible to return to previous recovery (I've never attempted it) but you'd have to find the file to flash via Odin and try to return that way.
I'm not sure about moving your contact information from one phone to another by the method you described, I always sync my contacts via my Google account so usually any other phone I sync with Google has all my contacts.

Hi, Thank you, I never payed with the phone and neither rooted though I'm a IT guy. With the twrp I couldnt see the root folder, though I checked to mount system but still not. I dont know how to root it, just want to throw the phone off after taking backup. Now trying with the CWM recovery and taking a full backup, dont know even it can be restored in other phone, looks like the backup is very larger. I've feb month contact and sms backup I used kies to do it. But recently my new card pin sent by the bank sms and cant use it until I get it.
Experience with this phone:
After 6month vibration gone
after 2 year charging port gone
Replaced at service station and thereafter no tower in room, no 3g, only 2g. 3g if I only if I go out side still only 20%time I get 3g.

I believe it is easy to fix by wipe cache
Did you ever do wipe cache in recovery?
If never do that, try wipe cache and dont wipe other things.
After that reboot, see if that bootloop still there.
99% success if what you said is correct.

Yes I know the issue is bootloop but how to solve this? I also tried few software for auto fix like fonepaw-android-data-recovery but nothing helped.
I can take the full system backup from CWM, the backup is very large like over 10GB but there have no option to take sms and contacts only. I dont know even with the backup I can restore it in other phone. If possible, restore and then I can take the sms and contact backup from there.
I did wipe cache partition 100 times. Nothing helped.

Root by flashing CF Auto Root via Odin then boot into recovery and now try the Mount "System" option and see if you can now access files from the root of the phone.

If I root it and say I got the contact and sms store file then if I have to take them and paste in other phone then I have to root that phone as well right?

Most likely, yes. I've never done it, but you could also search for a .??? extension reader (depends on what file extension the contacts and sms files are, not really sure) on google and try to read them that way, it is a high possibility that you might find software for your PC specifically designed to read those files.
Heck, you might even be able to open them with a text reading app, who knows.

I can take the full system backup from CWM, the backup is very large like over 10GB but there have no option to take sms and contacts only. I dont know even with the backup I can restore it in other phone. If possible, restore and then I can take the sms and contact backup from there.

Not so sure if this work for you but work for me, long time not using Stock ROM.
Just flash TWRP by Odin
After finish with Odin go to recovery mode
Go to advance then file manager
At root folder, go data/data
Backup what you want save to SD
But I believe our contact location is same
Mine at /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
If fail you need root
Inside contact folder got .db files
You can read using root explorer, root explorer got sql lite reader, you can read it.

Great, thanks for your help and feedback. I'm trying again today and let you know what happens. With a CWM version I think my phone is rooted but not sure. While installing I saw the CWM saying rooting for a sec and then restart.
So after few days I got some time to work on it. I did CWM Recovery and took the full backup and the format and reset. Now the phone turned on and restored the backup by CWM but again its in Boot loop. Now what to do? and yes I think its rooted now.
I only need contacts sms and action memo, thats all
