Question about root - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I root the nexus 10 without losing data. My bootloader is LOCKED

To root your bootloader has to be unlocked and this is alwasy connected with a wipe of userdata. Try to save the data you can make a backup from and restore it after rooting.

Your cool, the only way to unroot Requires a specific process. Wipe, format and flash away my friend.

Any way to unlock bootloader without losing everything

As title really... Forgot top unlock and root straight away and now don't particularly want to lose all settings and apps which I have seep so far. Any ideas on how I can avoid this? Is a backup and restore possible without root in the first place?

If you are talking about a full ROM backup, I don't think so. Still you can check if some rooting tools oneclickroot or other root exploits works. If so then use titanium backup for all app backups OR rommanager and clockworkmod recovery to backup the ROM.
But there are definitely tools that backs up specific data like sms, calllog etc. Today most other apps have their data on cloud. And your google account will have a list of all apps installed with your account OR use appbrain to get a list of all installed apps. After unlocking you can install all of them back.
Can't you do a nandroid, unlock, factory reset then restore it? (i haven't t tried this by the way)

You can do an adb backup, then unlock, then restore, then root. There are a couple toolkits you can use if you are familiar with adb.

You can fastboot boot a recovery image (without flashing it) such as CWM or TWRP, use that to backup to an external USB drive via OTG, then unlock flash or temp boot recovery again and restore your recovery.
Easy.

Titanium Backup.
Restoring the data partition could cause ROM problems, like FCs, and stuff that doesn't worn properly.

make a backup N4 via fastboot

Hello.
Today I broke my nexus's screen Touch isn't working so I can't use TWRP.
Tomorrow I'm going to buy another N4 and restore all data.
How can I backup my all data, whole system + data ?
Is there any easier way to backup or I have to flash CWM recovery and use volume buttons ?
You can backup using adb from recovery

Upgrade rooted 4.4.4 to 5.1?

I have a Nexus 10 with unlocked bootloader and 4.4.4.
Recovery running Philz.
What is the safest way to upgrade to 5.1 while keeping all userdata and 3 accounts?
Can I use NRT with keep user data setting on?
Are there any pitfalls to avoid bricking? Will my N10 be encrypted after flashing?

Anyone, I'd like to upgrade soon.
Is it safe to upgrade from 4.4.4 to 5.1 in one go by flashing the factory image while keeping userdata?
If not, just say so.. It's not that bad with Titanium Backup (or is that a bad idea from KK -> L?)

you can restore from TiBu from KK to LP just don't restore any data
OK will skip data when restoring from TiBu.
But still my original question remains: what is the easiest + safest way to upgrade?
Is flashing the 5.1 factory image while keeping the userdata partition safe?

Easiest way: OTA
Safest way: Factory images
Userdata partition: If you keep your KK userdata partition, you might run into issues since its a major upgrade you want to do (KK -> L); Take a look at this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/sdcard-problems-upgrading-android-t2938749
