Hello.
Today I broke my nexus's screen Touch isn't working so I can't use TWRP.
Tomorrow I'm going to buy another N4 and restore all data.
How can I backup my all data, whole system + data ?
Is there any easier way to backup or I have to flash CWM recovery and use volume buttons ?
You can backup using adb from recovery

As title really... Forgot top unlock and root straight away and now don't particularly want to lose all settings and apps which I have seep so far. Any ideas on how I can avoid this? Is a backup and restore possible without root in the first place?

If you are talking about a full ROM backup, I don't think so. Still you can check if some rooting tools oneclickroot or other root exploits works. If so then use titanium backup for all app backups OR rommanager and clockworkmod recovery to backup the ROM.
But there are definitely tools that backs up specific data like sms, calllog etc. Today most other apps have their data on cloud. And your google account will have a list of all apps installed with your account OR use appbrain to get a list of all installed apps. After unlocking you can install all of them back.
Can't you do a nandroid, unlock, factory reset then restore it? (i haven't t tried this by the way)

You can do an adb backup, then unlock, then restore, then root. There are a couple toolkits you can use if you are familiar with adb.

You can fastboot boot a recovery image (without flashing it) such as CWM or TWRP, use that to backup to an external USB drive via OTG, then unlock flash or temp boot recovery again and restore your recovery.
Easy.
I initially rooted and flashed twrp recovery on my nexus 7 and then I decided to go to clockworkmod recovery since I'm very familiar with clockworkmod and I use ROM manager app. I'm not sure but I think twrp recovery images are still taking up space in my storage because I have one nandroid backup and I only have 19GB of 27.58GB storage. I have 1.6GB in apps, 0.8GB in titanium backup and 0.7GB misc. Downloads. Thanks in advance.

If you have remaining TWRP backups they will be in the TWRP folder on your SD... If you are certain you won't be using TWRP in the future just delete the folder. A better idea would probably be to move it to your PC just in case you might want them again...

If you can get into cwm and use vol buttons that would be the easiest way. Then use adb to pull your /sdcard to your pc

Thanks I will try to boot CWM. I hope everything will go smooth
Edit: I got no space to backup data partition. How can I delete folders to get more space and pull files through fastboot or adb ?
CWM recovery USB mount doesn't work/
Edit2: Got it working, adb working great, so I can delete/push/pull files. I hope I will recover all my data
Very nice! Good job on figuring it out yourself! Goodluck
So I have a 8GB N4 with a broken digitizer, phone works fine otherwise, boots and can unlock it and can boot into recovery.
I have TWRP installed and stock rooted 5.0.1 w/ busybox just wondering what is the best way to backup all my data (is there a script to launch a nandroid backup in recovery via ADB?).
Also I have purchased a 16GB N4 to replace it, will moving data from a 8GB to a 16GB lead to any issues?
Can you make the nandroid in twrp? If so just copy it to your new device and it'll work fine. You can't make a nandroid with adb. But you can backup the device with adb, although I haven't done it successfully. Google adb backup

Thanks,
I think I have it, it's running a backup as we speak. I couldn't make a Nandroid, I have zero input from the digitizer.
But I was able to run the backup command, and then a series of commands to unlock the screen and simulate a screen tap in the lower right corner to get it confirm. After this is complete I will see if I can use the same input tap commands to get it to launch a Nandroid backup in TWRP.
I figured the size difference wouldn't matter, just wasn't sure if the difference in partition sizes (I assume its only the /data partition thats different on the 16GB models) would screw things up or not, i.e. does it specify a start and end point for each partition or not.
No go on the input tap commands in TWRP, is there an older version that goes old school with volume rocker and power button?

Thanks, I now have both a nandroid and adb backup (and also a pulled all the files off the 'sdcard') so hopefully I should be all set when the new one comes in.
Now to survive the weekend with no phone.
Lastly can I restore a CWM nandroid with TWRP? oh should I boot to CWM restore the nandroid and then flash TWRP.

You'll need to use cwm. The nandroid between twrp and cwm are not compatible

OK, good to know. Having a hard time getting it to complete the nandroid, keep getting an error while making a backup image of /data. I think I might be running out of room, I had about 1.8GB free, but I've already cleaned out the 'sdcard' and cache, it's all apps and data left which is what I'm trying to backup.
I've just attempted to do a Nandroid backup through TWRP but during the System backup my phone rebooted itself and now it's stuck on the Samsung logo. Is there any way to save it or am I going to have to wipe it and start over?
Charge phone, take out battery boot into recovery dirty flash rom
