How to close Amazon FireTv system on-screen keyboard using K400R. - Fire TV General

Today I noticed that when you try to go to forums and type in your user name and password, you can only type in one field. Its pretty annoying... So today I was just pressing buttons trying to back out of the on screen keyboard and sure enough.
On the Logitech K400r, you need to hit the blue Fn button and F7. That will drop the on-screen keyboard away thus allowing you to type in your password after your user name, click on other on-screen fields etc.
Hopefully this will help someone else, as that on-screen keyboard is an eye sore...
If it helped, hit Thanks!

I have same as what you have been encountered the annoyed on-screen keyboard.
Im using Logitech k700 (I think) with trackpad built-in.
I haven't tried use null keyboard
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wparam.nullkeyboard
Problem is that Amazon fire tv doesn't have input selection and it may be will not working with the null keyboard.

yeah I did see it, but I also heard that it can break the other keyboards... The F6 trick works great! I also just installed Tapatalk and that makes my forums come thru perfect. Im using my K400r now, typing through the Amazon FTv on-screen keyboarrd seemlessly...

Has anyone found a way to do this without one of these keyboards? That pop up keyboard makes me want to throw my fire tv through the window. If there is a way to get to the full android settings, I'm sure it could be done.

There is a settings.apk that can be sideloaded, but I don't know if you can install null keyboard without root since the unknown sources issue in tween updated users.
If you are stuck without root on the latest of firmwares, you can install apk files from unknown sources without root since Amazon nicely enabled it,but I still don't know if null keyboard will install.

I'm rooted, but I hadn't heard of the settings apk. I'll have to look that up. I know on another android device there is a built in option to hide the on screen keyboard when an external keyboard is plugged in.

Here is one of the topics.
I hope the file is still available after all this time.

I hate modern browser "intuitive" website linking which removes the much needed http for link posting to work.

Nexus 7 keyboard cursor keys

Hi All,
I've recently received my Nexus 7, and I'm very impressed with it. I do however have a nagging problem.
When typing a URL it's common to make a mistake, and when I do it's a complete pain to go back and edit. There doesn't seem to be any cursor keys on the standard keyboard. I know you can move a little cursor arrow about, but I have big sausage fingers, so this is painfully tricky.
I have also installed Swype, which I can switch to quickly from the standard keyboard, and it does have cursor keys. Unfortunately it also seems to fight with the standard dictionary and there is no quick single button way of swapping back to standard without going into settings.
So does anyone know how to get cursor keys on the standard keyboard?
I understand your pain, but there is no way to "get" arrows on the stock keyboard.
I'm sure someone could modify the stock keyboard, but what I usually do is tap on the URL.
This usually summons a BIG blue peg, which is a nice way of moving the cursor.
If not you can also try "SwiftKey 3 Keyboard" it has arrows, and is known for its self learning dictionary.

If you do use Swiftkey download the phone version if you want arrow keys. When you install it will suggest that you use the tablet version - ignore it as for some reason you can't have the arrow keys in the tablet version. The option for arrow keys can be found under the Theme section of the settings.
Also,Ultra keyboard has arrow keys.

Actually you can have keyboard arrows in the tablet version of swiftkey 3, but unfortunately they are hidden. To get them you need to select "123" and then "{& =". Yeah, I know, slap forehead time!
nexus 7 table pc
My Nexus 7 is almost always in my hand, surfing the web, researching articles, reading an ebook, or otherwise consuming content from the web. It is particularly useful for those purposes as I have detailed in the past. I am getting asked if the Nexus 7 would be useful for creating content with an external keyboard. My answer is absolutely not.
I have a reputation for using tablets in my work by using them with keyboards to write thousands of words. They are very good at that as my working history proves, but only to a point.
The Nexus 7 will never be good for writing as I do, even with a good external keyboard. That's due to one factor: size. While the 7-inch display makes the Nexus 7 perfect for a portable companion, it is too limiting for use as a laptop replacement.

i had thumb keyboard from my previous galaxy note, so i just loaded that up on my nexus 7. its my favourite keyboard due the sheer level of customisability. it has arrow keys for your convenience as well.
Hi:
I use Hacker's keyboard and wouldn't be without its cursor keys.

There is no doubt that this keyboard is cool. However, I would like to recommend one more choice. The more choices, the better for us. It's an Aluminum Case with Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard for Google Nexus 7 which serves as a best partner for my Nexus 7 in many ways.It is sold at $39.99 only. Hope my recommendation helps.

Use physical keyboard and onscreen keyboard at the same time

I have a Bluetooth bar code reader connected to the tablet and it shows up as a physical keyboard. It works great to scan information into text fields. The issue is that the onscreen keyboard doesn't show up if it is connected. Does anyone know a way to have both the onscreen keyboard show up and have a physical keyboard connected? When i googled for answers I found someone with the same issue on there zoom with 4.1 installed, they said the onscreen keyboard would still pop on 4.0 but not on 4.1 (I searched for an app that might allow this and came up with nothing )

Settings > Language & input > Default, switch the "Hardware" property to Off. works for me on Android version 4.1, It let me have both of the input types, but I have to set up this configuration every time it gets connected. Hope it helps.

Help...Problem with default keyboard

Hi I have just bought a 32G Nexus 7 and have stumbled across a really annoying problem. When using the on screen keyboard in some apps, I cant enter an @ symbol. It is nowhere on the keyboard. It does however appear on the keyboard in the most apps.
I noticed it when using a remote control app for my WDTV, I needed to enter my email address into a field, but the @ key was missing. It used the same keyboard that is used when typing an address into chrome. (If you check that one out you will see what I mean)
Is it possible to force an app to use a particular keyboard? I went through all the available options and couldn't seem to fix it.
Thanks for any advice.

[TUT] How to Enable Swiftkey on HDX

The Keyboard Settings on HDX is hard coded for the Kindle Fire OS keyboard, but alternative keyboards *can* be loaded or sideloaded into a very confusing menu. This is how you get Swiftkey to work.
The steps should work for other keyboards as well. I've gotten it to work with Fleksy and Google Keyboard. YMMV.
1) Download and install Swiftkey to your HDX through Google Play Store (if you have hacked it onto your device), Amazon App Store, Aptoide or 1Mobile, or even sideload it. However you do it, install it.
2) Once you got it installed, run the Swiftkey app, which is also the installer. Keep going as far as you can until it tries to trigger the settings and so on. It probably will bring up Keyboard Settings, and you'll be utterly lost here.
3) Bring down notification, and go into settings (far right button, usually)
4) Go down to Language & Keyboard and tap it
5) Tap on "Keyboard Language" (should be 3rd one down)
6) Keep scrolling down the languages (and you'll see TONS) until you finally find Swiftkey, make sure it has a checkmark (if not, add it now).
Optional: Also enable any other keyboard you may have loaded. Beware that some keyboards appear here actually as a language. For example, Google Keyboard appears as "English (US)" if you have that installed, though Fleksy appears as itself.
7) Once you have checked all the keyboards you want to enable, scroll back to top
8) Tap "Default language", which is first choice, and you should get a pop-up of all the different keyboards/languages you enabled, and among them should be Swiftkey (or Flesky or whatever keyboard you put a check mark on in step 6) Pick your favorite keyboard now.
9) Hit BACK to go back to "Language & Keyboard" screen
10) Tap "Keyboard Settings" (4th choice?) If you had previously selected Swiftkey, this should bring up Swiftkey Settings, or perhaps the installer if you have not completed the steps like Sign into Google Plus to enable CloudSync. Complete any remaining steps in the installer.
Your new soft keyboard is now active! Enjoy!
I've actually done this several times using the swiftkey apk from my phone extracted from a titanium backup. Every time I have tried it though the nav bar on the bottom (portrait mode) or right(landscape) has covered part of the keyboard making it unusable. I may have missed it in one of the other threads but what needs to be done to fix this? Having a working swiftkey would be great as the stock keyboard is really slow on long press combos like numbers and sometimes doesn't even recognize the first one.
Indeed it's a bit annoying... The best I've been able to achieve is to set the keyboard size to the largest one and also select the extended keyboard option so that most keys are on top of the space bar... But still we need a fix on this one and I think the problem is on swiftkey 's side not recognizing the fireos bar...
Swiftkey has an undock setting. I activated that and just moved the whole keyboard up the screen further. Works fine for me.

Where is this option located? I can't seem to find it.
*edit* Nvm, found it, haven't used Swiftkey in ages so forgot where the swiftkey icon was. For those unfamiliar with swiftkey, it's the second one from the bottom left. You can use this video as reference:

Undock is your only option. It's easy in landscape, but almost impossible in portrait mode. You'll have to guess where's the swiftkey button and from there, undock.
I was about to suggest "arrow keys" but I realized Swiftkey hides the arrow key option on the tablets (WHY!?!?!?!)

Indeed I also thought of activating the arrow keys just to see it's not an option on tablets...
I don't like the undocking option as sometimes the undocked keyboard appears on top of the text field you're trying to type in, effectively blocking your view of the typed text...
Thanks for this post! I had really missed the language recognition ability of SwiftKey.
I haven't had any of the above problems due to the nav-bar covering the keyboard. Unless I update this post, you can assume I'm one happy guy
I installed Swiftkey from the 1Mobile appstore on a non-rooted device (Thor 7 inch, Kindle OS 4.5.5). There were 6 versions of Swiftkey available to install. The only version that worked for me was "Swiftkey Tablet Free," Version 4.2.1.202.

On-screen keyboard missing after forced Oreo upgrade

The other day, I came home to discover my Nexus Player had updated itself to Android 8 (without my consent, of course). Now I find that I no longer have an on-screen keyboard. When I try to type something, it prompts me to "Use the keyboard on your mobile device." Even if I connect using the Android TV remote app from my phone, I still can't type. Directional buttons work, but typing into my phone's keyboard does nothing.
I have checked Settings > Keyboard > Manage keyboards, which shows toggle switches for Gboard (disabled) and Virtual Remote Keyboard (enabled), however they are both greyed out and I cannot change the toggles or do anything. If I go to "Current keyboard," it's completely blank.
Any clue what might be going on here? This is extremely frustrating. I never wanted to upgrade to Oreo in the first place, because I didn't want to lose app switching support. Now I feel like I'm going to have to waste my time downgrading to 7.1.2. Thanks a lot, Google!
same exact issue. doesn't seem to be too common though. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it with no luck. I hope someone with a little more knowledge than myself can help me out here. I am two seconds away from buying a new set top box. I hope the final build looks nothing like the beta I was running awhile back, or i'll have to find another system all together. wish they would spend a little more time making sure there are no bugs but hell, i'll be happy if someone here can help in the mean time.
Enable korean/any other language input in settings. Itll come back
