[Q] SMS / Text Issues - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Hello All,
Need Some Help. I am using Verizon Galaxy S5 in India. I am on Global Mode with Data Enabled. I am able to use Internet / Calls and everything else. The issue that I have is that I am not able to send out text messages / SMS messages. I tried through Hangouts and Samsung Messaging as well, but none works. I am able to receive messages but not send. The only way it works is that if put in the phone number directly without the country code.
For eg:,
If I want to send a text to 9800000001 then I can send only if I put in the number manually in the text message send menu. If I have that number stored in my phonebook with the country code +919800000001 then it is not sent. I cant update my entire phonebook to remove the country code from the numbers. So basically I cannot reply back to text messages received too as they come with the country code.

TIA.

This is something that has been happening with all builds of 5.0. I believe it was fixed with 5.0.1 or will be with 5.0.2?

It seems there is no such build !

I've also had this problem using my S5 on straight talk's lte network, which piggybacks off of verizon. The only 5.0 rom that works for me is the international version, but it's not a very good rom otherwise. I'd really like to use MOAR but not being able to send sms is a pretty big problem.
I had the same problem with my Verizon Galaxy S5 in Albania.
I could not send SMS if the number started with +355 (355 is Albania country code)
and all incoming SMS had the country code so it was really frustrating.
After 2 weeks of searching for a solution i found it in androidcentral
can't post the outside link so here is the solution.
It is simple, go to phone dialer > Settings > Call > Assisted dialing
Inside assisted dialing where it say Reference country select your country.
than edit Country code by adding a + in front of the number there.
You are done just don't forget to turn Assisted dialing On.
Thanks
Thanks Man. You really saved my day! No more unsent messages because of this reference country.

where is the message setting number option
I have just found out that I can't send text messages, I can receive them just not send them. From talking to the phone company they have asked me to make sure my message setting number is correct but they couldn't tell me where it was and I couldn't find it. Apparently this number is used when sending text, can anyone help by letting me know where this setting is. I don't believe it is the rom or radio as since I found the issue I have been trying all types of roms and reverted my radio back down to 26I, no joy. Currently I have CyanogenMod 5.0.8 installed
Found this answer from "Nexus One","BryanNexus1" Dialing *#*#4636#*#* AKA *#*#INFO#*#* brings up a troubleshooting/statistics menu page. Dial that and select Phone information and at the bottom you can enter the SMSC (Short Mail Service Center) number. If the phone can receive but not send SMS it could be a carrier outage or issue 90% of the time. Morlin it is not risky to update the SMSC number. Kerorek gave the correct one for T-Mobile (12063130004). SMS is a voice issue and has nothing to do with data. Morlin try to update the SMSC number and powercycle the phone and test sending SMS. I had a similar issue some time ago. I remember trying to fiddle with various settings, but that didn't really do me any good. I ended up wiping the phone and restoring all my SMS/Contacts/etc. Worked like a charm.
Just had this issue, after stupidly messing about in the very area I need to be in to fix it, ( pressed update smsc number with no number typed in, could receive messages, but not send them), full data+cache wipe did not fix this, nor did flashing other roms, since the SMSC reset wipes it from SIM I believe. Looking up the correct SMSC number for my network and entering this fixed it however, and sms behaviour is back to normal. So thanks for this, and remember folks, no matter how smart you think you are, all it takes is one stupid moment to remind you, you are just like everyone else
[HELP] My I8700 cannot use text message
It is a unlock 16G T-Mobile. I am using AT&T carrier. Everything is OK but cannot send or receive text message. I have tried to flash different roms but none of them are help. My sim card is OK as I test in another cell phone. Any hint? This is really frustrating me.
Hey, See to it that you change the SMS Centre number. Go to messages > settings > SMS Centre number and fill out "+19078319301". If that does not work, try "+13123149810". Hope this helps you.

When I chose the country for the assisted dialing, it correctly selected my country code as 994. However, in order to make my texts work I had to manually add in the "+" sign. now the phone recognizes the "+994" that is in all of the contacts and inbound phone numbers. texts now seem to works as they should. Also, be sure to turn the assisted dialing on. Hope this helps all of the other travelers out there.

Contacts not recognized when receiving a call
I've just got my Galaxy s7 edge and everything seems to work fine apart from my contacts. I have an Exchange Server account connected for Mail, Calendar, and Contacts; and all my contacts have been synchronized with the phone. The problem is that all my contacts have an international Country Dialing Code before the phone number which seems to confuse the phone during an incoming local call. For example, Name: John Smith MOB: +44 12345678 When I am in the U.K. and call this number, it will dial the contact as a local number; however, if I am outside the U.K. and call the same contact, it will be dialed as an international number. No issues with outbound calls to contacts. On the other hand, if I am anywhere in the world and receive a call from this contact, I should just receive the call; whether it is local (if I am in the U.K. the number would be [John Smith Mob: 12345678]) or international (if I am abroad [John Smith Mob: +44 12345678]). The problem I am facing is that if Mr. Smith (in this example) calls me locally, I just get the [ 12345678]; while if Mr. Smith calls me while he is roaming, or when I am roaming, I get the proper contact recognition [John Smith Mob: +44 12345678]. This was never a problem with iPhone or BB. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have a local and international number for each contact, as this just confuses everything. I am sure there is a smarter way to handle phone numbers.

I am having the same problem with Samsung S7 Edge Dual Sim. I also use Exchange Server for Calendar and Contacts. The contacts with numbers stored with international prefixes are not recognized during incoming calls when called locally, because the local network does not send the numbers with international prefixes. This used to be a problem with my previous HTC phones but it resolved itself. Now I am having the same problem with my new S7 edge. I hope someone will find a solution because I do not want to have two numbers for every contact, one in local format and one in international format. I do travel a lot and need the internatioanl format to call back home. Thanks for all the help we can get.

Any updates about this issue??? It seems to be a problem where the network shows the calling number in local format while the contacts are saved in international standard, meaning +(country code) (number). One solution will be to edit all contacts and save their numbers in international format to call when traveling and in local format to be recognized when being called while in the country. However this problem existed with my previous HTC and it was resolved. So Samsung or Android should find a solution.
i have the same issue, I'm really mad with Samsung s7 edge dual sim, im thinking to change the phone to LG V10 dual sim if i cant resolve the problem
caller name not appearing in incoming calls S7 edge Duos Hello All, I just bought a new Samsung S7 dual sim phone yesterday and I have the same issue as you guys. Caller names do not appear during local incoming calls although name is saved in my phonebook (in international format). I spent the entire day to try and solve it without any success. Has anything found a fix for this issue? It is really frustrating! I hate my phone already!
Galaxy s7, same issue here in Australia. Local numbers ok, anything saved as +61xxxxxxxxx doesn't identify. Again, contacts stored on exchange 2013. Was not an issue on Windows phone 8.1 or Windows 10 mobile with the same contact set. Haven't been able to identify a fix.
Try turning 'Identify unsaved numbers' off...
Hello I have the same issue with galaxy S7 NOT edge,,, all my contacts (about 1000) have the international code,, when someone calls me while iam at home it doesn't recognize it,, if i remove the (country code),, it recognizes it fine.... any new suggestions...
Same here, S7 edge, bought in Singapore used in Asia, Australia, and Pacific. Recognizes international numbers from outside any country, does not recognize when inside the country. A pain!
I have the solution. after long frustration and analysis and trial and error, i discovered that we all have something in common. We are using the device in the wrong region. so go to sammobile website, choose your device correctly, choose your country or a close country in the same region and download the latest rom (top one). install samsung drivers and odin 3.11 and follow the instructions to flash the new rom. All your data will be wiped. but i guarantee to you that things will work properly as expected. ---------- Post added at 01:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:59 PM ---------- i have the samsung s7 duos and i work in saudi arabia. the phone wasn't recognizing names in dialer. i went to sammobile, searched for G930FD, then i had to select a country, i didn't find saudi arabia (it is available for the single sim variant but not the duos), i chose India, downloaded the rom, flashed through odin and now everything is working perfectly. i also got samsung pay and other new things.
I know that this is an old post,, but i have had this problem for over two years and it was driving me crazy,, i finally found the solution for my problem,, i bought my galaxy S7 from the UAE,, it has a multi-CSC,, and had the (THR) CSC as the active one,, which is the CSC for Iran,,, i did a factory reset then flashed the (BTU) (England) firmware,, then flashed the UAE firmware again, now i have the (XSG) as the active CSC,, and this solved my problem...
After intensive research I've finally found out the solution. It has to do with the minimum numbers of digits to match the saved contact calling. The following method is least invasive: 1. Root your phone or use TWRP to edit the following file: /system/csc/others.xml 2. In the file, edit or, if is missing, add the following lines: <CscFeature_RIL_CallerIdMatchingDigit>9</CscFeature_RIL_CallerIdMatchingDigit> <CscFeature_Contact_EnableDynCallerIdMatchingDigitWithAutoSim>TRUE</CscFeature_Contact_EnableDynCallerIdMatchingDigitWithAutoSim> 3. Open - Settings/Application Manager/Show Stystem Apps and clear data of "Contacts Storage" 4. Restart your phone and enjoy. Other solutions can be: - Flashing a custom cache.img from another firmware/country, thus changing the CSC. - Flashing a different CSC firmware altogether. - Adding 2 numbers for each contact with 07 and +44.
SOLUTION UPDATE: In case anyone is searching for a solution to the same problem for whichever Samsung phone, here is one that will work for you. I have a Korean S22u, being used in Europe and sadly the CSC cannot be changed. When I would get a local call and the contact is saved with a country code, the phone does not recognize it and that is because of the way the Phone app is set up by samsung. SOLUTION: Install the Google Phone app from the playstore and set it up as your default dialer. It replaces the call screen and it recognizes all numbers correctly. It takes some getting used to, BUT, it works Good luck.
changing the calling app
Hi I have a snap dragon version scv33 from AU japan. I now moved back to Australia. It is in version 8.0. When I want to make calls it asks me if i am calling to japan or roaming country. If i select japan is puts +81 automatically and of course phone fails. If i choose roaming country it just says enter area code i.e. +61 Issue is i have to change all contacts to be +61 If i do this then when i sms it fails. So if i type persons number normally e.g. 0423 it can send sms. When they reply it puts the reply under the separate conversation of +61 saved in contacts and replying in that conversation fails. Is there a way i can flash the calling app with another countries app that does not have this assisted calling locked. I have checked call settings in call menu but it`S hidden so i cannot disable it. On my s9+ it has the roaming assistance option and it`s not hidden and I can turn on off. Thanks alot
no one knows how to replace the callIng app?
