[Q] Quick Charge 2.0 compatible with LG G2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapdragon/2014/06/04/quick-charge-20-has-arrived
Technically since our chipset is Snapdragon 800, G2 should support Quick Charge 2.0 but its missing in the compatible list. Does anyone know if it supports and if so any models for G2?

It's pretty simple if it's not on the list then it's probably not supported. Seems a bit odd that the LG G3 isn't there either but, perhaps it's just how things are: LG may have simply chosen not to use the necessary charging circuit hardware that could support such fast charging technology, sadly. I see it does specifically mention the Snapdragon 800 series which does include the original 800 but I'm guessing they're leaning towards the 805 and leaving the 800 and 801 out. Again, if it was compatible - because it's not just the chipset that's required but the charging circuit hardware too - it would most likely be on the list (meaning the G2 or the G3).
Sad but, that's how it goes. I use a 2.1A Apple charger I got at a thrift for for $3 and I don't have any complaints about the speed it charges at, but I've only had the G2 a few days. I'd like to get a brand new battery installed in it at some point as I have no idea how much wear is on the current one; I got it used in a trade for a Moto X which was about the same age roughly.

It should, but it might be something that has to be enabled on a kernel level, and might not be enabled by default. That doesn't mean it can't be enabled, just that it probably needs a custom kernel.
I doubt the long term benefits, however. Charging your phone faster than what the OEM has advised can potentially reduce the battery longevity.

G2 supports quick charge. I have the charger from my Optimus G and it takes 3+hrs to charge my G2 compared to quick charger I use now (blackberry). Now it charges between 45min - 1.5hrs.

Be careful of the cheap/fakes they may not have proper grounding and have cross connection etc issues. Some people have been killed and some hospatilized after their phones blew. Its been in the news enough times now so be careful.

Yah, I know about the fakes, this is a real actual Apple one (confirmed the serial number with Apple) so I should be good to go. I have STweaks set to 1800 mAh for the fast charge rate, did a test yesterday: G2 was at 38% so I plugged it in and 35 minutes later it was at 76% so, with this particular setup I'm getting roughly 1% per minute and I'm fine with it. Still want to get a brand new battery at some point and start fresh since I intend to keep this phone for some time, it's been fantastic since I got it.
Now I wish I had a G3...

quickcharger work
I and my bob just tested the quickcharge2.0 in G2 also Nexus5.Full charge from 2% just an hour 23 min.Much quick than the default one 5V 1.8A.charger and phone not heat, maybe little bit hot than usual. It is good.

Hailang can you post a link from where u bought it?

Hi. On my original LG charger/1,8 A/ it takes 75 min from 25% to 100%. Fast Charger ON with Dorimanx kernel.

I preordered the Motorola quick charge2.0 wall charger. Will test for sure

@goldlocke any change to test your new Motorola charger?

What do you mean apple charger? The apple lightning cable? Or the powerbrick? I thought the cable didn't fit into the microusb port.

I mean one of these (Apple A1357 10 watt USB charger):

I am using a G2 again nowadays with CloudyG3 and the latest Dorimanx kernel which is limited to 1600mAh for the Fast Charge, still works just fine for me. I do have an LG 1.8A charger as well with this "new" G2 of mine so, either one charges the device without issues.

I agree with him. G2 supports quick charge, G2 charge time takes 1.5h with original charger adaptor.

I have used the Moto Quick charger and it does work. I think it provides 1.5 A @ 12 Volts, which is faster than my other charger of 2 A @ 5 Volts.

Actually, that is how quick charge 2.0 works. The phones have to be compatible (which ours is) and it can take higher voltage that's auto negotiated.

Quick charge might work but I don't think the lipo cells lg phone has can support it 100%
Be careful when a lipo cell goes bad it goes bad in a very dangerous way. It ether will leak and Turning your phone to a blowtorch with a flame that would melt metal.
Or it explodes. It don't just stop to work that's the downside of lipo battery's

Anyone else having insane charge times?

I just finally got my phone to die after a lot of use from 10 hours of music, 3 hours of web browsing/facebook, 1 hour of modern combat 4, and a crap load of texting and calls. Well when i plugged it in its charging really fast. I seem to get about 5-8% per minute. is something off or is this just really quick at charging.
EditL ok it took about 30 minutes to a full charge.....
The Samsung charger that comes with the phone has a new chip that charges the phone at 2A so it will be quicker. If you use a different cord it'll go back to being slow.
Yeah I absolutely love this charger. Quickest charge ever.
Sent from my Galaxy S4
Its insane with how it is. on my SIII i used my old Palm Pre charger (old phone i use to have haha i miss the OS of it) but all my other cords got loose and fell out easy but for that cord. I was use to like a 2 hour charge and some wall outlets it would be 3 hours. this is insane for a 30 min charge haha and lasts all day for me.
It's the new Qualcomm Quick Charge technology.

the tricky thing is you also have to use the USB cord they provided as well...the old usb cord in the new 2A adapter won't work
if you notice, it is thicker to handle the extra charge

I'm going to run a few tests using other cords (monoprice, belkin, and a couple others and I will update this thread in a couple days with the amp charge. My hypothesis is that the monoprice cables with a thicker wire gauge will be able to handle the charge but until I run proper tests I won't know.
Oh a question I had for any owners is if anyone's galaxy is getting super hot when charging?

Are you guys sure about this? Qualcomm's site says it's their integrated chipset that facilitates the quick charge, not the cables.
Quick Charge 1.0 makes all this is available to the user with existing USB charging accessories—no new cables and wall chargers to buy.
Quick Charge 1.0 is offered to our customers as an integrated solution (as part of the PMIC, or power management integrated circuit) and
a standalone solution that interfaces to the USB connector. Any phone or tablet’s charging port can be enabled with Quick Charge.

It's the chipset working in combination with a compatible charger. Using a regular charger will work, but charge times will be longer. The "cables" don't have anything to do with it actually. @Powerbird As for charging for me it does not get hot for me, a little warm but that's it. It was only on day one of getting it which weird.

Same as kyhassen here first day phone charger and cord got extremely hot when I first fully charged it. It ran 1day 15hours and am presently charging it and its not hot anymore. The charger was warm at first now it has cooled down that its at 92% I love that it charges really fast and will see how long it last this time.
You guys should have owned the HTC One, One of the reasons I left that phone was because of the 4.5 hour charge time. Ridiculous. Thank God the S4 is way better in that regard.

I am not getting anywhere near 30 minutes. My first charge from dead to 100% with the phone off was about 2.5 hours. I am charging it right now from dead and it has been going for about an hour about 75% done. Wonder if I have a defective charger or cable? Will try a different cable to test first.

Quick Charger 2.0 not working on Z2

Hi guys,
I have an D6543 (Brazilian Model), there is no difference between D6503.
I checked the Qualcomm website a lot of times, and Z2 is in compatibility list: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/devices/all?feature=Quick Charge 2.0
So, I purchase the Tenergy Quick Charger 2.0 at Amazon, and for my surprise, it's not working at all. Only normal charging.
I tested at 1%, and in 30 minutes only 11% was charged, VERY, VERY slow.
The light indication at charger is saying that is on normal charging.
I'm really frustrated.
Fastcharging is disabled on xperias for safety
Charging should be between 1-5 hours even without fastcharge
My z2 only take around 2 hours to fully charge from 1%. Just using the stock plug charger.

I dont think fastcharge is at all posible with the Z2
It charges at 1500mAh using the factory provided charger and trying to go beyond that isnt safe at all.

I don't know why. Z2 has the Snapdragon 801, which is compatible with Quick Charger 2.0, as Z1 was compatible with QC 1.0.
LG G3 also has the 801, but LG does not enable the QC, that's why it is not at Qualcomm's website. It's weird, because Z2 was recently added to the list, and the main product page says it's compatible.
In the end, I just lost money because their poor support and information.

Not exactly poor support, if its safe to use and certified safe to use sony would have put it in the features list on their website but it wasnt there when i bought the phone nor when i last checked.
As said check my reply
The device charges at as fast as it safely can with the factory provided charger
I'm using envi rom.
I have a normal 2,2A usb charger.
When I use the usb port to charge i have really slow (6h from 0 to full charge) to reasonable charge time (3h from 0 to 100) depending on the used cable.
But when I use the magnetic aftermarket cable than I get insane charge time, only the last 10% from 90 to 100 is not fast but it certainly uses 2A as it is from 0 to 90% in about 90 minutes.
The phone gets slightly warm but far from the temperature it gets with intensive usage and the magnetic connection gets warm too, but nothing alarming imo.
The full metal and glass design makes heat diffuse very fast.
That sucks I'm coming from a one plus one and the charger was very fast.

You need charger which supports Quick Charge 2.0, though.

This site is in Japanese, but it says you'll get 13W when you charge with charger which supports Quick Charge 2.0 and with normal charger you'll get 10W.
Normal charging is already fast enough, so you won't notice big difference.

Either they know nothing about electronics or they cannot calculate ^^
1. it should show 9W..... 1.8A x 5V so their meassurement device is not exact (hell, these Wallplug meassurement things are made for 220V ! so you measure 0.045A you can't expect them to be realistic, they're for up to 2000W not so low values.)
2. 9V x 1.8A = 16.2W but this is wrong again as the Quick CHarge 2.0 speccs are up to 4.5A for 9V
So if it really is charching with 9V it only uses 1.44A
Oh... and btw the Stock Sony Wall charger EP880 only has 5V 1.5A
Let's hope some people who know what they're doing are gonna test the Z2 or other phones with Quick Charge 2.0

I'm unsure about the battery but this is why QC 2.0 utilizes a higher charge voltage. Also why in computers, all high current devices now run on the 12v rail instead of 3.3v or 5v, because high amperage at low voltage would damage cables and connectors. If we had expensive graphics cards pulling 400w at 3.3v there would be a huge problem with heat and necessary wire size. There is more resistance in metals with high current / low voltage vs. high voltage / low current and this is what can damage the USB port.
This is also why at 120v AC we have issues running high current draw appliances vs 220-240v circuits.
Also why high voltage is more fatal, because it travels more easily through our skin, and etc.
I contacted Qualcomm by email, and they replied to me after a few days.
Xperia Z2 officialy does not support Quick Charger 2.0, only in JAPANESE models.
They updated their website, and removed the information, that's sad.

FYI guys, Sony Brazil sells Z2 and Z3 with Smartband, so, our OEM charger has only 0.8A :crying::crying::crying:
Just purchase some charger with 5V 2A output and you will be fine..

And i tried using OnePlus charger 5V 2A and it is noticeably faster

Quick Charge and USB-PowerDelivery?

I haven't seen anything officially confirm did Samsung ever say whether this supported Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 or 4.0, or USB Power Delivery via USB-C?
Here's a screen shot of the charger for the S8 from the PhoneArena unboxing. Looks like 2.0 again. http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/58e2baf65e2a4/S8%20fast%20charger.JPG

That would be VERY disappointing seeing as this is the worlds first phone with both Snapdragon 835 and USB-C. Only supporting 2.0 is such a step backwards. At least give us Power Delivery!

Exynos does not support Qualcoms quick charge features... as such they out their own adaptive fast charging which does not seem to be changing any time soon.
Dash charge on the OnePlus 3 and the VOOC charge on OPPO phones which dash charge is based on is really awesome i was hoping after the battery thing that Samsung would have gone with that as it does keep my one plus Cool mostly if it get warm thats plenty.
What I need to find out is what is required for this exynos adaptive fast charging to work (and how much faster is it than using any standard 2.4a charger). the qualcomm quickcharge afaik requires specific chargers to make it work, I assume the samsung one also requires specific chargers to make it work but all i ever see are qualcomm ones advertised (and this is in europe where we only get exynos samsungs and they conveniently never mention in all this adverising that the quickcharge wont work on european samsungs!). Obviously i can probably buy some samsung charger but I'd rather not pay silly prices for their accessories after paying a silly price for the phone already
Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charging is essentially QC2.0 ... as i have an official quick charge 2.0 charger that works with the S6 and s7 etc ....
what Samsung needs to do is update AFC to support QC 3.0 or 4.0 voltages or come up with another solution all together
i would rather they go the route if Dash charge or Motorola's solution but in wake of the battery incident (note 7) i would see why they would have held back on advancing quick charge.
since qualcomm 835 supports quick charge 4.0 which let you charge 5 minutes to get 5 hours of talk time.
maybe someone can hack it and enable qc4.0 with custom rom
It's definitely QC2.0. I asked the guy working in the Samsung Experience area and he said QC2.0. I'm surprised that it's QC2.0, as I would think the newer SoCs are at least QC3.0 compatible.

Qualcomm 835 is the first chip that supports the new Quick Charge 4.0 standards, its shocking that samsung isn't utilizing that being that they are the first phone with the 835 chip. Maybe they are just playing it conservative when it comes to batteries and chargers until quick charge 4.0 is verified as safe, they can't take another charger/battery disaster.

Can I use my existing Samsung S7 edge Official standing wireless quick charger pad since its still 2.0??

If the QC 2 revision is maintained, then there go the battery lifespan improvements, among other features, that QC 4 offers.
Genuinely hoping this is not the case.

Ah, okay. I wasn't aware about the new chipset having QC4.0, so thanks for the info. I was only aware of QC3.0 since I remember seeing chargers being sold that were QC3.0 compatible. It would honestly make sense for them to be a lil more conservative with the battery this year, since it's like you said, they can't afford another major debacle.
On the bright side, because of what happened, maybe this will help push other manufacturers to do more rigorous testing on their own batteries for future devices as well, since something like this could happen to ANY company. Samsung survived this ordeal as they're a juggernaut in the Android space and in general. If this happened to a smaller company, it would be much harder to recover.

Yep. And even if it was QC3.0, unless I'm mistaken (someone PLEASE correct me, if this isn't the case), it's backwards compatible with 2.0. Like, the phone would only change to the maximum amps that it was designed for.
If the chip supports it, then a future firmware update could enable it after them testing and then retesting
YEs but their charging wall worts they shipped to everyone wouldnt work for QC 4.0 so everyone would need to get a new wall wort to take advantage of it. I dont see it happening. The Snapdragon 820 chip in the Galaxy S7 supports QC 3.0 but they never enabled it, it still only charges at QC 2.0 speeds.

Yep. Even if was QC3.0 or QC4.0, unless I'm mistaken, it's backwards compatible. Whatever device you plop on top, even if it can't support the faster charging speeds that 3.0 and 4.0 have, it'll just simple max out to whatever the maximum input it can take.

Would you happen to know if this was the US Snapdragon version or the international Exynos variant?
---------- Post added at 19:56 ---------- Previous post was at 19:54 ----------
I got the brochure for the Galaxy S8/S8+ from a Samsung store here in Singapore.
It says here that it supports "Ultra Fast Charging". I'm not sure what that means since I have no access to the actual charger itself or if it supports a charging with higher wattage.
I don't expect it to though, especially after what happened with the Note 7. Faster charging is probably not one of Samsung's priorities
I'll post a picture later today.
Sorry I'm a little late. This is a brochure from Singapore. Shows there "Ultra Fast Charging". First time I've seen it from Samsung.

Interesting, and in singapore do you expect to get the Exynos version or the Snapdragon version? that is different wording then their standard "adaptive fast charging" term they have been using, maybe it means something different than the regular QC 2.0 they have been using?
Singapore definitely gets the Exynos version.
What got my curiosity is "Ultra Fast Charging". Previous phones only had "Fast Charging" or "Adaptive Fast Charging".
maybe they're talking about USB power delivery.
"USB Power Delivery is a charging technology. It uses USB-C cables and connectors to deliver higher levels of power to your devices."

G6 Quick charge 3.0. Is it truly quick charge ?

Hi I just wanted to know that The quick charge 3.0 claimed by LG G6 is really quick or not ? I will attach below what all I got at various timings.
Starting from Phone switched off that is 0% , I switched on the phone and let it charge and didn't use the phone at all rather than timely checking the battery charge only
28 minutes 27%
32 minutes 28%
45 minutes 42%
53 minutes 50%
60 minutes 58%
80% at 1 hr 18 minutes (Qualcomm claim to slow down after)
90% at 1 hr 31 minutes
100% full charge at 1 hr 55minutes.
Is the charger provided with the box is QC 3.0 or 2.0 ? 9v -1.8amp / 5v - 1.8amp

Testing phase 2 using LG charger plus Oneplus 3 cable
10:20Pm - 5%
11:20Pm - 77%
11:30Pm - 85%
12:00Am - 100%
From the above data I got j think it charges fast upto 80~85 or 90% then slows down to trickle mode
Fone was made sure of clearing ram from recent apps
Is there someone can confirm how fast it charge with quick charger 3?
LG G6 doesn't support
QC3 with current firmware at all. It's doesn't matter which charger you use.

Do you have any sources to back up this statement?
Yes, I do:
1. My own observations

It doesn't matter what charger you use: LG or other certified QC 3.0 charger.
2. This thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/qc3-0-included-t3601591
Any charger takes about 2 hours to full charge a phone. It's way too long for QC3.0

I concur.
I don't particularly want to go over old ground regarding my H870DS, but I have three QC 3.0 chargers, the charger that comes with the G6, and my QC 2.0 charger from my Z2 tablet, all of them charge my G6 at the same speed - 1% a minute. But what is more interesting, is that all of the QC 3.0 charger I have, are backward compatible, and they all charge my G5 a lot faster than my G6. 0 to 70% on the G6 takes around 1 hour 10 mins, the G5 takes 40 minutes for the same percentages. Something is clearly amiss!
Exactly this same experience. LG calls it “fast charging“: indeed it is, but it isn't QC3.
For me not a deal breaker, just my observation(s) only.
QC3 isn't any faster than QC2 the only difference is qc3 is more energy efficient which means it can change the voltage on the fly.
QC2 can't do this an excess energy is expelled as heat when the battery reaches near full capacity. QC3 can adjust the voltage to prevent this energy loss.
QC3 is likely better for the battery as it doesn't generate as much heat but it's no faster than QC 2.

No.
By definition of the USB-C specifications QC QuickCharge is not allowed. Thats why Goolge says that they shall not include QC into their phones but USB-PD (and yes, as it seems the G6 also has PowerDelivery).
I think it is more futuree-proof to buy a charger with USB-C PD and in some jears we can use it for all kind of stuff like phones, tablets, laptops etc
Testing phase 3!!!
Well guys today I tried again back with Stock charger and Stock cable got with box.
96% at 1 hour 22 minutes. I couldn't record the 100% time due to busy time.
Main thing this time did was
NEVER TURN ON SCREEN... NOT EVEN ONE TIME IN BETWEEN.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Realme 3 Pro can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Same here. If I want to go out and the battery is around 40%, I just plug the charger for a while. By the time I'm ready to go 15-20 minutes later, it's already around 70%. Thats more than enough juice for 9to5 office hours.

Realme 3 pro uses it's own VOOC 3.0 fast charger right? And it use snapdragon 710 that support Qualcomm quick charge 4.0
But Can realme 3 pro use qc 4.0 or even 3.0 atleast, like qc 3.0 powerbank or car charger maybe? They don't really have vooc accessories don't they? Just usual vooc charger?
Edit: I've found 6000mah vooc powerbank made by oppo itself, but the price is like 3 or 5 times more expensive than usual 10.000mah qc 3.0 powerbank price in here, insane ? i don't wanna pay that much for powerbank, so please still looking forward to see the compatibility between realme 3 pro and quick charge 4.0 or 3.0

Charging time for me :

1 hr 25 min - 0 to 100%

Edit: i've try to search any info/video about the compatibility, and it's looks like realme 3 pro does not compatible with quick charge 3.0 (it will only be a normal charging if using qc 3.0). Still looking for qc 4.0 compatibility, but still not found one. Unfortunately, it appears that it only available in my country. I've try to search it in banggood or amazon, but it didn't available. In theory, if the chip support qc 4.0 it should be compatible.
