I don't see anyone talking about this so making a new thread. Has anyone called Sharp and asked them if they are planning on updating the phone to Android 5.0? I think it's a slim chance but maybe if many of us call them and ask they will consider it.
As requested, here is the pack of Android 5.0 apk's that I have found by using Google. I did NOT test these so use at your own risk.

I've called Sharp to deal with other issues concerning the
Crystal and asked about a Lollipop update in an email. The following is Sharp's response I copy and pasted from my email.
Regarding your question about Lollipop, Sharp will determine if our devices should be updated to the future version of the Android OS depending on the market demand and how important and/or urgent the changes are in the update.
So a very good loose no decision on an update.
That means no chance Sprint is wasting there time on $150 phone when they have more expensive phones to worry about. But since are sharp is so stock. If we get root access I am sure we could port lollipop over from another device.
This means we need to each contact Sharp by email and our carriers to request this device be updated to Lollipop 5.0.

I have already installed and used several 5.0 apps on my Crystal. really like the new email app.
I uninstalled the new Gmail app because the red coloring was not to my liking.
This week I will be trying other Lollipop apps. Most (if not all) Lollipop apps are
readily available for download on a number of websites. Since this thread has
been created specifically for 5.0, I suggest the OP post 5.0 app links in post 1.
Bottom Line: We are not complete slaves to whatever Sharp does or does not do about a 5.0 update.

You are right about the apps, but its not the same as having the real 5.0 OS. It would be sweet if this device got a real update as rooting and flashing is not for everyone.
As for putting the .apk links into the OP, I can do that.

To those who try to install the 5.0 apps, be advised that SOME of them may fail to install on your Android 4.4.2 phone because they require 5.0 framework.
Newbies: I use the free app called ES File Explorer to install apps that I download and put on my external SD card.
ES is a freebie at Google's Play Store.

I don't know who you are addressing, or if you are actually from Sharp given the signature, but if what you say is the case then this is troubling.
We don't need Lollipop on our device, but everyone on this forum for the Crystal really, really wants it and anyone else who knows the changes Lollipop brought wants it too. And with the extremely quick turnaround that other manufactures have had to bring Lollipop to their (flagship) devices, there is demand for Lollipop. So needing to "[depend on] market demand" is unfounded.
If Sharp doesn't want to commit the resources to bring Lollipop to the Crystal, there are people on this forum who will. To do so, they will need source.
Per this article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/oems-and-gpl-compliance/ if Sharp is actually refusing to provide source they will be in violation of GPL, given my limited Android knowledge and that article, and we as a community should get in touch with the XDA bigwigs and see if they can help.
It was an email that sharp gave when I asked about the root and update to lollipop. Can't post images.

I guess I wouldn't like Lolipop loll
No 5.0
Just emailed sharp in regards and recieved an immediate response with an emphatic NO to 5.0. I informed them I would spread the word that after many have requested it they see no reason to even consider their customers wishes. This will be the last Sharp product I ever purchase as they have no intentions of keeping their phones relevant. I implore all aquos owners to move to a new manufacturer when the aquos crystal is due for replacement. Only way to show them we control things is not buying their products. Hit em where it hurts... Their wallets!
... there's been a very minor update to the kernel for the Boost 306sh variant.
I'll definitely be emailing Sharp with some of my thoughts re: version updates and encourage all others to do the same.
Build KVT49L01 doesn't appear to have any significant user-facing changes.
Taken from Sharp website:
Improvements on Wi-Fi Calling including the low audio issue in some cases.
Fixed WPA2 Enterprise Wi-Fi network authentication issue.
Improved UI on the Weather Widget.
Google Security Patches.

Paul over at MoDaCo is starting to get some interest in a new application he's developing - basically it involves developers providing some XML with their installer that ties in with some similar XML on the applications' download page on their web server.
When a new version is released, the XML on the download page is updated, "AppToDate" will check the download server and you'll be able to see that a new version is available.......
AstraWare, Developer One and SK-Tools have already expressed an interest in making their software work with "AppToDate".......what are you waiting for!?!?!
I'll stop babbling, this is what Paul posted over at MoDaCo "AppToDate"
I have a dream! OK, so it's not quite as ground breaking as some other dreams of our time, but it's a dream none the less. It goes something like this...
I have a whole bunch of software on my device. Probably 15 apps at least. I also write software, which is downloaded by a fair few people, both commercial and free. I like to ensure that my software on my device is up to date with the latest versions, and it's a right pain in the ****. Not only that, I'd like my end users to have the latest versions installed to get the best possible experience... and to facilitate that I have to write a custom update checker into each of my applications. Fine for big apps, not great for quickly rustled up apps or tweaks.
But there could be another way.

What if you could have an application that lived on the device, that wasn't tied to any one application or vendor, that could check for updates for everything installed on your device? IMHO, that would be awesome. A dream. For such an approach to work, you'd need a few things...
Someone to write the update application, and to develop it. A community project perhaps?
The update application MUST be FREE for end users and developers
The update application MUST be easy for developers to plug in to
The application needs to be used by end users!
Freeware developers need to use the application!
Commercial developers need to use the application!
Now here comes the audience participation part - if you are a user, would you like to see such an application? If you are a developer - either freeware or commercial - would you like - and would you use - such an application? Make your voice heard here, and if there's an appetite for this, let's make it happen! I'll be updating this topic to list developers who would like to be involved.
Oh, I forgot to mention... I've basically written the update application! It's simple, has plenty of scope for future development, can update itself (of course) and in order to be used by a 3rd party, just needs an XML file dropped into the updater directory from your install CAB, and a current version XML on your server!
Beautiful! The response to this topic will determine how much time I spend on getting it production ready

Lend your support to this - with all the updates for various applications flying around, it's an almost impossible task to know if you're running the latest and greatest version - hopefully it will grow into a REALLY useful tool.
Thanks for listening
Mark.
This would also work well for new versions of everyone's favorite rom's....

Beta version suitable for app developers, ROM chefs and 'cabbers' now at http://apptodate.modaco.com
Free of course for developers AND end users, and I know at least a couple of chefs who are planning to cook it into the ROM (I'll be offering an OEM package early next week to supplement the existing CAB).
Come on over and get involved, let's get everyone supporting this!
P
Great work modaco..will look at it
WMWifiRouter will support this with the next release.
I have now releaed a version with the necessary configs to enable ROM update notifications.
ROM chefs: please contact me if you have any questions re: cooking into the ROM and notifying your users of updates!
Note that via the stats mechanism, you can watch how many people are checking for updates on your ROM!
P
Hey modaco..im cooking my ROM so i would like to use your wonderful app in it..kindly PM me the instructions or post it here..i would also like u tell me how to integrate stats mechansim
Check your PM!
P
Sounds like a great idea, but one slight problem I have with it is: if the app is not hosted on it's own website, what can be done?
I haven't had time to dig any deeper than reading this, although I'm now going to look at the "Official site" and see what info I can get.
All you need to be able to host is 1 XML file somewhere!
P
Now... How can I get this into a ROM?
- Get the CAB from here: http://www.modaco.com/content/AppToDate/267096/Download-AppToDate/
- Extract the AppToDate.exe
- Put AppToDate.exe in \Windows
- Create your ROM XML file (see below)
- Use initflashfiles to put your XML file in \Application Data\AppToDate
- Host your ROM file online in the URL you put in the XML
When you update your ROM, simply increment the version number in the online XML, and people will see the notification!
When you have this done, let me know and i'll give you your stats URL!
Here's what the XML (e.g. l3v5y.rom.1.xml) will look like:
Code:
<application>
<name>l3v5y's ROM</name>
<version>1.0</version>
<description>You are using the first release ROM version. Keep checking back for updates!</description>
<versionurl>http://www.mysite.com/apptodate/l3v5y.rom.xml</versionurl>
</application>
And when you have an update available, change the online version to:
Code:
<application>
<name>l3v5y's ROM</name>
<version>1.1</version>
<description>Current ROM version is available from http://www.mysite.com, and includes the following changes over v1.0....</description>
<versionurl>http://www.mysite.com/apptodate/l3v5y.rom.xml</versionurl>
</application>
Remember when building your ROM to grab apptodate as late as possible, as there are regular updates atm (altho, when you put it in ROM, it will still auto update itself anyway!)
Remember to load up your XML in IE on your PC to check it's correctly formed.
P
If you have CAB extensions to your ROM of course, it's a great way to keep those up to date for users too (and again, get some stats)
P
Just making sure the exe didn't need to Go somewhere special, I can get xmls to work thanks to UC provisioning! Does the updater itself need an XML ( could unpack the cab and see but it's too late for that timewise) ?
Who wants to host some xmls? Or maybe I should just get a site...
I'll see to that stuff tomorrow, or is that today?
Thanks for the standard and I hope it gets used lots 'cause it'll save me a lot of time!
Quick question: does the checking/downloading system work with FTP or just HTTP?
Just to remind you..anchillus was also working on a project related to Windows Updating..but i dnt know what happened to it....
AppToDate doesn't need it's own XML.
I imagine HTTP only is the best bet.
Get yourself a free account here and you'll be sorted: http://www.zymic.com/free-web-hosting/
P
Here's anichillus' post:
http://www.anichillus.net/index.php?topic=33.msg%msg_id%
Which isn't really related per se. I like his idea tho, that would be cool!
P
Thats some mighty fine marketing! And the "conformation" e-mail has crashed outlook...
Introduction
Here's a one-click root method for the Oppo Find 5. You can find source here: https://code.google.com/p/android-casual/source/browse/#svn/trunk/GUI/src/SCRIPTS
The way this works is it will reboot your device into fastboot, boot a kernel, inject root and SuperSU(available on Android Market), set permissions, test itself and let you know if it passed or failed.
CASUAL also provides an unroot option to remove root permissions. This can also be done from within SuperSu.
Instructions
Open CASUAL with JAVA. Do you have Java?
Select which script you want (root or recovery_
Click the do-it button
All scripts in CASUAL are automated. Simply click the button and it will "do it". If you are a windows user, please ensure you are using proper drivers.

About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform ADB Scripting, Univeral Android Loader. CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language. CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits. CASUAL allows for automatic updating of its scripts via pushes to the SVN server at android-casual.googlecode.com. While I expect no problems at all, if at any time a serious problem is detected with the script, i can flip a kill switch to shut CASUAL downand you will be brought to a support page.... most likely here. This is intended to add a level of security so that you know this will be safe.
Thank you very much. I will check it in few days
Edit: And, for sure, if it works, you will have a beer
Thanks a lot Adam. Will try this today.
Thank you for the script. I will try it in soon days, when I will receive my Oppo Find 5 32GB. The device is still in Guangzhou Good that I am in China

But there is no way the "Hack Pack" could recognize the x909.
USB-Debugging is on.
I also tried it in windows. I installed the adb driver for my x909 but the "Hack Pack" cannot recognize it either.
Do know where there could be a failure?
Thanks

There may be an update which you need. I applied a manual update last week which made ADB work properly with all previous versions of ADB. You also need drivers. I don't know which ones yet.

Do you mean an update for the phone? Where did you get it?
Or an update for the computer? The installation of ubuntu is completly fresh. I just added the libusb and java to run the "Hack Pack".
Did ubuntu immediately recognize your Oppo Find 5 with only libusb installed additionally? Or what software do i need furthermore?
I would like to use the Gapps but if i install the play store from an apk, it just force closes all the time. (like every other gapp)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66838326
Actually, isn't this beta test limited to Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, at least initially? Also, I don't think it's begun yet.
FYI:
Regarding Xperia Beta Program
This is a pure quality beta software of the official software for Z2/Z3/Z3c Marshmallow update to check stability before launch. The setup is the same as in this concept with invites, beta feedback application and a closed forum. This quality beta will be available only in a few selected markets: Italy, Spain and Netherlands.*
The CONCEPT SOFTWARE is a separate thing, something with a much longer horizon, something with much more experiments in it, something unique in the history of SONY Mobile we don't know how this concept will turn out in the end but we (in the team) have great plans for it!
Xperia Beta Program - Quality beta test of official software
This Concept - Experimental consumer driven software
But if this is true why are we not releasing anything right now?
Well we are currently working on the next release and there are some changes that has stopped us in the quality testing. Right now we are working on understanding/fixing this. We will probably not make a release during this week but hopefully next week if all goes well.

I know that they have a limited number of beta testers (somewhere around 1000). But anyway if I am lucky to be able to get to the beta testing I'll try to extract the ftf and post it here

They should use XDAdev forum membership and participation as a qualification, but maybe that's built in to the selection process since people who lurk around these forums usually hear about the beta link before ordinary mortals do.
I am from the Netherlands but on Google Play this Beta tells me it is incompatible with any of my devices (and one of those any is my D5803)

Check your current firmware customization. It has to be the NL version
Firmware customisation, euh well, not language I think.
I downloaded a Marsmallow ftf that's it.
Where do I find my Firmware customisation?

Do they check customization only ? or also the IMEI must be from NL ?
Flashing a NL firmware would allow us to download the app ..?

for the concept project just the customization was enough, so first try with that only. no need to flash a different FW, just change the customization in build.prop if you are rooted!
also, for downloading the app, check the link just 3 posts above yours....

Hi guys,
I built the latest omnirom for our Z3 compact using sources kindly provided and created by Humberto Borba. There will be very little support for this ROM but I wanted to provide it as is for anyone who wants to use a custom ROM as the current choices for our device are pretty limited. I am not a DEV for this device but I do know how to build.
You will need an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
So all that goes with that ie loss of DRM etc applies here. You will also need the latest version of the bootloader to get this to work, so ensure you are coming from an uptodate 5.1.1 ROM or any 6.0.1 ROM
If you want to install GAPPS then you will need to do it immediately after installing the ROM. Do not reboot and then install GAPPs
Whats more the camera does have the fisheye lens distortion. Anyone following the AOSP dev work will be familiar with all the issues on the phone.
Again I am not posting this as a DEV project or in the DEV channels as I didn't develop it and won't be supporting it in any meaningful way.
kind regards
Download
Updated link to folder of all builds so I won't need to update links anymore
Can you take screenshort
Ill take some screen shots on the next build. Omni have just added a new camera for snap dragon devices so I am keen to give that a spin

Hi! Thanks for your work with thiese vanilla build. I'm so impressed the whole flash procedure. I'm came from slimm1.5 rom, wiped data, cache, dalvik, system in twrp 3.0.2.0 then flashed omnirom homemade, after that slimm gapps. The whole flash time, the first time boot was incredible fast. The whole system was quickiest to the nowdays roms. I tested the new camera, but i think the fiah eye bug is still there.. But maybe not so "big eye" like previously aosp roms. Anyway, I like it. Now, testing the battery life

I guess there is no critical difference with Most other countrie's 2.4 and 5.0 GHz 802.11 channels.
Found channels on my wireless router, same with bellow's information about In Korea sections.

@mcgi5sr2 thank's 4 building a custom rom and being motivated to contribute here. do you see any way to get rid of the fisheye camera bug? i've bought my z3c in january 2015 already and built/offered a custom rom (pacman) some weeks later. i stopped contributions 3 months later, when i went to holidays and needed a fully working camera. since then i saw MANY MANY talented and motivated developers & contributers here coming and leaving within only 1 year. i'm personally using concept rom which i find quite satisfying for every day use.
but i think there won't be any wide rom developement for that nice little device if the pictures taken keep being that unusable...
regards
As of yet I don't know how to get rid of the fish eye lens effect. If I am honest I probably won't anytime soon either as I have a lot to be working on IRL

Hi Charles,
I have not been able to gain root. Initially I thought it was due to the SEpolicy denying root access. However the last few builds have had SEpolicy set to permissive so would allow root. However I am still struggling to even install root. The official Omni line is that all their builds allow for the use of systemless root from Chainfire. They do not support system root which is what is used on the stock Sony derived builds.
If you have any success regarding root please let me know.

You are a good developer, your ROM is the most stable of third party Android M.:good:
Thanks but all praise should go the omni and SonyAOSP teams
Could please post the link (if any) of the config file repo you used to compile the ROM ?

the platform manifest I use is from OmniRoms github.
https://github.com/omnirom/android
and for the AOSP builds
https://github.com/SonyAosp/platform_manifest
as you will be able to see from these, I am only building not developing. That said I am currently synching up again for some new builds. Sony have released some new a3xxx adreno blobs so camera may be even more stable.

You provide absolutely no details here so it's impossible to help you. Model number of your device, android version, what custom ROM (if any) you're using, whether you're rooted or not, and steps you've taken to try to resolve the issue will do for a start.

i tried Clear data and clear cache for the apps and it doesn't work, restarting phone and removing battery also doesn't work
and here some info you might need, and it's not rooted now, tell me if you need any more
Looks like you never upgraded the thing. First thing to do is to download an Android 5.0.1 version of the stock firmware from sammobile or samsung updates. After flashing it using Odin see if that resolves your issue.
Why not simply do a OTA update?
Based upon my experience with OTAs, he wouldn't be offered an OTA to Android 5.0.1 since he's still on Android 4.4.2. Worse, since OTAs are not full system images he would have to take multiple OTAs since Samsung released monthly updates until 2016. Flashing a full ROM package through Odin is faster, and ensures all parts of the ROM match..

5.0.1 makes my S4 slow, i was at 5.0.1 downloaded it from sammobile or samsung i don't remember and then downgraded it to 4.4.2 because most of apps requires 4.4 ad above, the original one was 4.3 and i didn't get any more updates, but the videos was working fine on 4.3 and 5.0.1, but the problem is 4.3 is too old and most of apps doesn't support it, and 5.0.1 makes my phone slow, so is there any other fix?
The phone runs slow because of Touchwiz, so a custom ROM that doesn't include Touchwiz is what you should be using. The Google Play Edition ROM is no longer updated, but it is Android 5.1 without Touchwiz. There are also Android 7.x custom ROMs available not using Touchwiz.
There is a speed penalty you pay for Touchwiz, which is why you don't use it if you can help it.

can you please help me and give me the perfect Rom? i'm kinda noob but i know how to flash etc, but i don't know what's the best Rom for my S4 and how to know if there's a Touchwiz or not and these stuff, i have downloaded some Roms before from here but there was some problem like phone runs slow and i can't get the notifications for the App, so that's why i need you help, i need one without problems, works fine, runs fast and gets the notifications for apps.
If you want a ROM that "just works", get the aforementioned Google Play Edition ROM. It has the advantage of having Samsung-released binaries, which minimizes issues that may be present in other ROMs.

i solved this problem, but as i told you before, no Notifications from the app where it should be a little Red circle on the apps with the number of how many Notifications
also, am i missing something? there's no an app for the camera or the videos or the sms message, and so many other apps...
Notification Counts on Icons: Touchwiz feature. The GPE ROM is stock Android, and stock Android doesn't have notification counts that display on apps.
Missing Apps: Apps you're used to seeing in Touchwiz will not be found in stock Android, though I am a bit surprised no camera app is present. Any app missing has a replacement available through the Play Store. For example, install VLC from the Play Store to get a video player. Install Google Camera, Snap Camera, Camera MX or any of the various camera apps to get a working camera. Install Google Messages to have a SMS app. Hangouts used to be the SMS replacement on the GPE ROM but that feature was removed in current builds of Hangouts.

OK, so that's mean this ROM not including GAPPS? and if so then what's the Right GAPPS should I download?
Sorry for so many questions I'm a noob trying to understand and fix my phone...
If you have the Play Store, you don't need a Google Apps package. If I recall correctly, the lack of Google apps is a design choice by the developer: since the Google apps are going to be updated through the Play Store anyway, it's pretty much pointless to have them in /system. What you as the user do is find the Google apps you want on the Play Store and install them.
For example, when I was using the S4 as my daily driver, I would download Gmail, Maps, Messaging, Play Music, and YouTube, as neither the Dialer nor Contacts apps were made available separately until after this ROM was discontinued. The alternative is a stock GApps package of over 700MB. Now while I happen to live in the US and can download 700MB packages every day if I wanted, many people out there in the world have metered connections and limited amounts of data. In those circumstances, downloading only the apps you actually use is a sound move.
TL;DR: The ROM doesn't require a GApps package. Download only the apps you need from the Play Store.
EDIT: One last thing. The changelog for the ROM is specific on the apps issue.
-Complete debloat of the optional apps in system including Camera and MMS
