[Q] McGuyver killed my phone - Droid X General

My Droid X's battery died during an sbf, and I tried doing a McGuyver (Splitting a micro usb and connecting the red and blue wires to the battery) I turned the phone on and went into the bootloader, and it said "Battery low - Cannot program" Then, I turned the phone off and let it sit for a minute, then tried to turn it on again. It didn't boot so I removed the wire and put the battery back in, and now it won't even turn on with the battery in it. (Screen stays blank, no flickering or anything like that) Can my phone be saved?
EDIT: After plugging the phone into a micro usb, the phone can boot into the bootloader. New question, can I charge the battery a different way?

That method very risky.
May have brick it.
Buy a TBH factory cable adaptor or a spare battery charger.

My Hermes does not power on :(

SITUATION
My Cingular 8500 does not power on. I have tried connecting it to wall charger as well as USB cable. The red or the orange light also does not come on. I tried all resets also but nothing worked.
BACKGROUND
a. My phone suddenly went off when I was opening the sliding keyboard. It had a decent (60%) charge at that time. After this it refuses to come on.
b. Only addition to the phone in the last 3 months has been a 2GB MicroSd Card. I inserted this card 4 days back and it was working fine.
c. The device is around 6 months old (but its unlocked, running WM6 and does not have any warranty)
d. I have been using the original wall charger to charge this phone regularly.
HELP REQUIRED
1. Is there a way to check if the problem is with the battery or with the phone? I do not have a spare battery.
2. Should any light come on if I connect the phone to charger without the battery inserted in it?
Thanks!
Try this:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
i have the same situation going on ... except with mine the screen faded out...it came back on once...and faded out again and will not turn back on.. when i put it on the charger it was a red light.. and will not turn on or soft reset, or enter bootloader or hard reset. .. in addition i tried the method above and nothing has worked.... any other suggestions...my phone was working fine when this happened out of nowhere... i dont have insurance either i bought the phone from someone off of craigslist..help is greatly appreciated
I am having the exact same problem, I had about 30% charge, then it just shut off, and now will not come back on under its own power or via USB nor charger. I tried connecting the charger then inserting the battery, but I do not get any indicator lights at all.
I was running WM6, and the most recent thing installed was the pointUI home screen replacement app.
has anyone experienced this before?

It wont power on threw charger without a "good" battery plugged in.
Sounds like u might have a bad battery. Happend to a friend of mine "different phone" just go to a local Radioshack If they have your type of battery and have one in stock they will most likely let you try one on your phone. If not just go to ATT wireless store and see if they have one you can try and buy.

Dear demo23019, I am not sure if I understand the above correctly. Should the Power LED light up "red" when battery is not inserted?
Once I connect the phone to charger (wall or USB), without the battery inserted in it, no red light comes on.
Does this mean that there is some problem with the phone hardware?

Yea the power LED should light up red with out a battery plugged in. Check the usb plug on the bottom of your phone, make sure the middle piece inside is still there and didnt break off.

Oops. My phone's power LED does not light up when I connect it to the charger without the battery inserted in it.
I have checked the following :
a. usb plug is fine (I checked it by plugging it into the Y cable for the USB charger. The LED on the Y cable lights up when I connect the USB plug into it
b. The middle piece inside the socket at the bottom of the phone is still there and shows no signs of damage.
c. The wall charger is also working fine.
Does this conclude that the phone has a hardware fault and this is not linked to the battery being dead?
Similar Problems
I just had the same problem. I had it happen to my Att Tilt and then to my cingular 8525. You should check out this thread and maybe post your info there too, it would be nice to see everybody post in the same thread so we can figure out what's going on.

yh
yh i got the same problem, i touched the power button so it wld go into standby, and it then refused to turn back on, even when i soft resetted it. Plugged it into the wall charger without the battery and there is no red power light coming on.
I've got a MDA Vario II and though im gettin a replacement, it kinda sucks as it seems im gna lose all my data
can we try to determine in more detail what people installed before they experienced this?
I just pulled it apart, and cleaned the inside to no avail, nothing seems to be awry, atleast not to my untrained eye, however it did get me thinking.
I listen to music on my tytn all the time, and over time the usb connector has become quite loose, frequently losing connections over activesync and music comes and goes from both lef and right. if the USB connector is shot, then when I plug it in it won't register that there is power, nor will it have the power to light up the red light indicating there is no battery. also, if the usb link is shot, then the phone wasn't charging so my battery is likely dead.
now to test this out I need to have a verified 100% charged battery.
I currently have the same problem. It will not charge via wall/usb. It flashes red once and that's it. Without the battery and plugged in, I get a solid red light. I tried plugging it into the wall charger without a battery and then putting my battery back in. The red light just turns off. That's it. I can get an active sync connection with a dim white screen, but I do not have enough juice to try flashing a new rom. If anyone has issues like these, are you also able to get an activesync connection?
TIA
EDIT: Is it possible to bypass the low battery protection when flashing a rom? My battery is somewhere around 40% so it would be safe.
Update:
Okay, I purchased a new oem battery and a battery charging dock. This way I can charge the battery without the phone before I attempt to flash a new rom.
I still would appreciate it if anyone who has seen these symptoms (white screen BUT with lots of vibrating / no charging / no bootloader) could give me a few pointers. I've exhausted the Wiki and so far it seems my only option to save the phone is to flash a new rom. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give me some advice.

[Q] softbricked with no info

Ok my buddy has an atrix 4g for ATT. he 'said' he was in cwm and loading a rom and now its softbricked. though i am familiar with droid, after reading recovery threads and everything, im still unsure of my resolution. most threads tell me i need an unlocked bootloader, others say not to flash if you were on this version. Honestly i have no idea if the BL is locked, what version or update he was on. at the moment it says failed to boot, starting RSD mode, battery is too low to flash.
A. will it charge while it says that or how should i charge it in this state?
B. after it does charge, what should i flash to it?
I apologize that i dont have much information. you have no idea how long it took me to find the power button lol. I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks
You definitely need to get more information from him before you can do anything. If his bootloader wasn't unlocked, then he was likely trying to flash one of the P-Roms like Greyblur or Gingerblur, in which case your solution will be a lot messier since the only way I remember accessing recovery back then was by using Tenfar's CWM app that reset it to recovery w/ a wall charger.
As for charging the phone, I don't recommend keeping it on and plugged in, in the chance that it doesn't charge and you are left with a dead battery. When the phone is completely off and you plug the charger in, do you see the charging battery?
When the phone is plugged into the wall charger it boots up automatically and says failed to boot 1, starting rsd, battery too low to flash. If I plug it into my pc the green power light turns on but nothing else happens. I never get any pictures on screen. No battery and no motorola logo. He was on 2.3.4 but he took his sd so I couldn't see what he was trying to flash. I will try to get more info

Same thing happened to me, and I can assure you it doesn't charge in that state. I have to find a way to charge the battery now... It is 0% dead. I hope I can use RSD Lite to fix it when it is charged.
alright, what happened was his battery was too low to finish the flash. it died halfway through, and now the phone is in some sort of limbo state that is just completely unusable.
but, if you have a spare USB cable you can fix this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ6JNCvIe8k
just watch that video, and let your phone charge for about half an hour to 45 minutes. after that, reflash the pudding .sbf with rsdlite (unless you can boot into recovery, then you can just reflash any ROM)
If you can boot the phone into recovery by holding the volume down key when powering on, then simply find the alien rom, save onto your SD card from the PC, then install in recovery...then you should be able to reboot into a working phone and charge. If you can't boot into recovery, and the phone is stuck on the "starting rsd protocol" screen, than...I think its a paper weight, but I could be wrong.
Although this problem could probably be fixed by an earlier post, I'm curious....
what would happen if you plugged it into the wall charger, let it boot up into the boot loop, then pulled the battery, left it out for 30 seconds, then put it back in. (this is without unplugging it from the wall charger). Does it allow the phone to stay off and charge, or does it still automatically boot up? Just curious.
im gonna look at the youtube video. ive got a D3 and i saw where a kid had cut a usb cable and made something work for 30 minutes and was able to flash again, but i was def trying to avoid that lol. also, there is no loop really. it doesnt restart, it just sits there. when the battery is pulled, it still stays on the same screen and never powers off until the charger is removed. i may see if i can get a new battery. i really apprecaite the feedback

It will not charge in this state
well my only option at this moment is to try the usb trick. im trying to strip the wire and hook it to the connector on the phone and then just smash teh battery on top of it, but i have no idicator light, so i dont know if its charging. would it charge if i tape/rig/solder it to the battery itself and not have it in the phone? i really dont wanna try a wall outlet charger
I am going to splice a cable and report back with results. My only other option is to charge the battery in my friend's Droid X
If that fails, to AT&T I go.
i havent been able to get it to charge through the usb using the red and black wires. i was very careful and have a decent set of tools to work with. he can buy the external battery charger for $30 if he'd like. im not really sure what else to do at this point.

Problem with charge battery

Hiho,
go to the problem:
I changed the original rom to CyanogenMod (NIGHTLY EUROSKANK [21/12/12]). used one month, until one day I was playing, and the battery was low, so I left him there, went to sleep. I woke up, and he was discharged and placed in wall charger, and went to watch. some hours later, I tried to turn on, and nothing happened, I thought I plugged the charger in the wrong way, I put to charge again, and noticed that out instead of white LED appears, was the red led. Loading left for some hours, I turn on and nothing happened .. (@! #! @ # $) And then plugged in the USB, and lit the white LED, and could not access it.
I did the MacGyver method, to bootloader battery, and did SBF flash:
" JDGC_U6_2.12.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNPRCB1B50AA039.0R_JORDANGCCORE_P013_A033_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf ", was all right for some time, when I put it to charge and lit the red light again, and then pulled the plug, and he hung up. and is now well. and no more MacGyver mode solves the bootloader
Please help
Sorry for the horrible english, I'm using google translate.:silly:
And also the huge text (I would explain how it happened)
can someone help?

Hi,
Sorry but in case you don't know, when the phone is discharged (under 7 or 10%) and when we plug it, it's normal to have red led. But you must have the "battery charging animation" with percentage when it charges... When it's charged enough (above 7 or 10 %) you can turn on the phone (power button long press).
Your battery could be dead, yes... But :
How old is your battery ?
Have you checked your wall charger ?
Is your USB cable charges your battery ?
Is your battery charges well with your original SBF (without CM) ?
If you know someone else who owns a Defy, you could test with his battery and his wall charger....
Your USB connector could be damaged....
Need some more informations to help you....

the cell completed one year this month (January / 13). I know that when the led is red because it is very low on battery. But let Loading 4 hours +. and when I connect to the computer it does not charge. it only illuminates the white LED, and can not connect or power on. anyway, the exchange led to suppose that shows the usb part is okay. I've used various chargers.
I can not run the SBF, why he does not recognize.
The phone is not turning on. apparently only led.

Try another battery... Your system could be corrupted, I mean, it seems your phone can't charge in 0-7 % step, so it will never boot... Dunno why, it could be an issue even if I don't really think so... But, to save your phone it's the better thing you can do. Couldn't you borrow someone's Defy battery ? A friend ? A shop ? Then you could test !

Are you sure you can't do any of these two steps (3 or 4) of the "bricked defy Step by Step Walkthrough" thread ??
Even the 4th ?
[...
3.First shutdown your phone, hold the Vol down and boot the phone up keeping the volume down pressed. you should come up to a triangle android logo, press the vol up and down key and then tap the screen ( this is a touch screen gui), choose the wipe data/cache and press ok, this should take up to 5 minutes.
4. Now, shut down the phone (pull the battery out and return it back in), Hold the Vol Up button and power up your phone.
you will enter the Bootloader (or BL as its called in the forums) and you should see the phone stating that (usually 9.10 version)
...]
If not, even with a charged battery, I 'm afraid your defy has a hardware issue...
Is your power button still alive ?

Power it on, when connected to wall charger. sometimes starts, sometimes they're showing is charging (the battery symbol with percentage in the middle). but I just pull it off. ie power on it, just in wall charger.
if a hardware problem it would not mind at all. (I think)

[Q] Battery issue or bricked? full symptoms list

From what I've read, a bricked phone and the known battery issue seem to have very similar symptoms.
Long story short: I was running a benchmark and the phone turned off and would not turn back on, and there was no red charging indicator. I let it charge overnight and now I have a blinking red charging indicator and I can get into Bootloader and Recovery while plugged in to the stock charger (5V 1.2 amp), but not when plugged into the computer (5V 500mA). I tried restoring AND full wipe/ fresh install and it still won't boot. When plugged into the computer I can get to the bootloader for about half a second and it will turn off. Also I can get into "download mode" on either connection, and I did not have "USB Debugging" enabled when it first turned off. What is download mode and how do I use it?
What do you guys think?

Battery is fully discharged and doesn't charging - only access is to Fastboot

Hello,
I wasn't using my Moto X Style for some time. I've took it yesterday, and it has a problem with loading.
Battery is fully discharged. I can't turn on my phone.
When I plug phone to charger (I've tried 4 different charges, with different cables), screen is blinking - white screen with battery icon on it. It's showing for around 1-3 seconds, turn off, and again. I left it for whole night, but it doesn't help. Still nothing.
I can get into Fastboot. When I choose any option like Start / Reset Bootloader/ Recovery Mode etc. is showing white screen with Moto logo, than turn off and screen is black, after that I can't get into Fastboot mode, I need to unplug and plug cable again.
I've noticed, that when I get first time in Fastboot mode, I saw red information "Battery is low". Now, after my trying to turn on the phone, there is green information "Battery is OK"
When I left telephone in Fastboot mode, it restart after some seconds, and start blinking with white screen and battery icon.
Any ideas how to turn it on?
I saw in internet one option, to disassembly phone, cut USB cable, and put (+) and (-) wires directly to battery to load it. What do You think?
It sounds like your battery may be completely shot. Battery replacement may be your only option.

Thank You
Almost sure your battery is dead, or in a weird case it may be disconnected
I got an used X Style that wasn't turning on at all and it did the same things you described, i popped out the back cover and saw that indeed the battery was disconnected, after putting the connector in place it booted up normally (btw, the battery didn't last too long, it couldn't last more than 20 min and would turn off, so yeah you should change it for better)
