You guys keep referring to kindle version number 14.x.x.x but all I see is fire os 4.5. How do i find the real version number and how can i root
/system/build.prop
And Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (14, apollo) has Fire OS 4.1.1, Fire OS 4.5 (based on 4.4.3) is for new Fire HDX 8.9 (22, saturn) for now (22.4.5.0_user_450005520.bin).
Ok. I have the 4G LTE versions of saturn then. Two of them. I have a feeling sooner or later, amazon is going to ban / blacklist their serial numbers because they were purchased on the kindle payment plan but only the 1st payment is being made. is a blacklisted kindle uselesss. can I root them
No root for software releases above x.3.2.6.

I have a fire hd8 5th gen with 5.0.0 (was previously a demo unit) on it. Everything I see on the forums for installing custom roms is for >5.0.1 and on the HD7. If I'm interested in removing FireOS I would be better off with the HD7 then? I'm surprised to find there are such differences between two similarly identical models' (7" and 8") firmware.
Edit: Appears custom roms likely won't appear on the HD8. If 5.0.0 is of any use let me know.
I have this Fire HDX 8.9 3rd gen https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BYHTK5Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I recently tried to start Optimum app for tv viewing and it claims it no longer works on my OS version and doesn't provide any other information. I have Fire OS 4.5.2 from December 13, 2014. It was rooted previously with TWRP, but I haven't done anything since then. I think I need to get to 5, but does the 3rd gen HD 8 work or support it? Any recommendations on firmware?
edit
I see that's there's other Kindle forums, but the server keeps timing out on me trying to list them.

Looks like your device doesn't support Fire OS v5
Since you have TWRP, you can flash one of many ROMs (up to Nougat) found here:

Hi Folks,
i have a Fire HD 10 (5th) Gen and well with all the amazon bloat ware on it its pretty slow. I was wondering if its possible to flash TWRP and a custom rom afterwards. I found some threads how to root the 5th gen but nothing on TWRP or custom roms. Any chance to get rid off the amazon mass, to get it fast again as it was back in 2015?
Specs:
amazon fire HD 10 (5th)
system update
fire OS 5.3.6.4 (626533320)

No root method for Fire OS 5.3.6.4, just try to customize, remove Amazon bloat, and install Google API service using Fire toolbox:
