In general, the Voice input (press mike button on kbd) works well. However, in Whatsapp, it starts a voice recording. Not
really what I want. Is there a way to make it allow voice-typing also in whatsapp?
I don't use whatsapp, so I can't give you specifics of it. But I use Touchpal keyboard that uses the spacebar as a touch to talk button when you hold it down. It's pretty much the main reason I use that keyboard over swype or swiftkey.

regarding speech to text
not sure If i should post this in the nexus forum or here but here goes.
Im using one of the 2.1 roms and I love it a lot. ALthough none of them are up to the speed I want I can manage.
One thing I do not like is having to press the microphone button on the soft keyboard. Id rather have it mapped to my camera button. so then all I have to press is the camera button and the voice thing comes up for speech to text
why did this get moved to the mytouch 3g forum???
Hello
The QWERTY keyboard has a 'minimise' button to make the keyboard dissappear. The 'Phone Pad' does not... anyone know why, and whether there's any way of acheiving the same result...?
Thanks
When I used to use the HTC_IME mod keyboard on my hero, it didn't have the button to get rid of the keyboard either, but you could use the back key to get rid of it. Maybe this will work?
I have it on my phone ?
Where is it you don`t have it ?
I've used 3 different types of keyboards and finally settled on SlideIT and holding the "Menu" button usually minimizes the keyboard.
Press the back arrow key to minimise the phone keypad
Spock with the 'back' button is that, in some apps (such as Android Market), it takes you back to the previous page rather than just minimizing the keyboard. A small but annoying fault...
I like the Phone Keypad but it doesn't always offer T9. I don't understand why it's available in Messaging but not in the browser. I don't get it.
Is there a way to run Voice Search instead of Voice Dialer with my bluetooth so that I can have a larger set of voice commands?
When I plug in my bluetooth, it gives me the option to default it to either Voice Dialer or Genius Button. Of the two, I'd rather use Genius button because it has more commands. However, I'm having some problems with Genius Button on CM7 (force closes, but only when using bluetooth). Since Voice Search also has more commands, I was hoping there's a way to set that up for bluetooth instead of voice dialer.
Short answer: nope.
Slightly longer answer: bt audio with Google's app will require a rewrite.
Longer, more detailed answers can be found by...Googling.
HTC Glacier CM7 #something
I've been unable to use Voice Input since installing this keyboard. Since installing Smart Keyboard Pro I've flashed my phone from stock. The keyboard that comes with the flashed ROM does not include the Voice Input key. Smart Keyboard Pro is functioning in regards to all other aspects. What might I need to do to get Voice Input going again? If I tap the microphone the voice dialog comes up but doesn't capture anything and won't close until I hit cancel.
same problem here. but in mine, the voice button is missing..
Hi all, I'm trying to add the following actions as the 3 keyboard shortcut keys:
Button 1: Voice Input (voice-to-text)
Button 2: Home key
Button 3: Back key
So far, I've only had success with Home key by choosing my Launcher app as the shortcut.
Anyone have any advice on how to make these actions work as shortcut keys?
There is a guide in the development section, I forgot the name, but its an older guide so just look carefully for it. Also, try searching for it.

why would you need this? you can just reach up with your right thumb and hit the buttons lol.
As far as voice search (or voice dialer), there's actually an app for that so you should be able to just apply that as the app to launch on key press.

I'm lazy ok, lol.
Voice search is different from voice input I think.
Voice input is the one that's only for text-to-speech. The virtual keyboard has a button for it, but not the hardware keyboard.
EDIT: Cool, I found the guide to add Home and Back buttons.
I just needed to change vision-keypad.kl
Now to find out how to add Voice Input to the button on the left!

Well if you're really lazy, you'd want to keep the home, back and search buttons where they are, and use the 3 quick launch keys for 3 apps that can't be created with the capacitive home back and search keys.
