[Q] Finding out Battery Draining Cause - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
Is there any way to find out the culprit of excess battery drain without rooting my device? I am losing around 3% an hour on standby (not excessive I know) and getting around 3.5hrs of on screen time. An app must be the culprit, I generally turn off location services unless I need them and Andoid OS/Systems are a fairly high in % of usage.
Any help (whether it is not possible or how it can be found out WITHOUT rooting) would be great.
Sam

I have same problem. turning off wifi or changing it to only stay on when plugged in seems to help but I find this annoying as then my phone won't update!!
And I cba to root to find the problem

I use a combination of Battery Doctor and Clean Master to figure out what is eating up my battery. I normally don't actually use them to kill apps and services, but instead use it to find the problem, and then take care of the issue myself.

I use wakelock detactor (wld) in combination with batterystats. Normally i find the reason for battery drain in standby in wld.
Why not install root? There is no reason for not using it.

[Q] Strange Battery/Phone Issue...anyone have similar experience?

This is strange. I know everyone is probably sick of these battery discussion threads but something weird has been happening.
I have ATK and UltimateJuice and with the two I can go 8 hours at night and lose MAYBE 1% battery. If I then use the phone normally it will last about 2-3 days with around 1% loss per hour (more or less, depending). Well, I find after opening numerous apps the phone begins to lose more battery per hour, sometimes upwards of 3-5%. I check ATK and nothing has changed that I can see. After restarting the phone the charge lasts longer and depletes at a much slower rate. So, this begs me to ask:
What is causing this and why?
and, How can I stop it?
All insight is appreciated! Thanks.
Notes: - same location for both cases
- WiFi enabled in both cases
- GTalk and syncing the same
Anyone at all?
i have an average of 8-9% battery loss overnight with only Google account on an active sync. over the day it'll drain randomly too. sadly.
no idea why but i'm living with it.
People well tell you not to but get ATK. I ignore all apps for syncing and important stuff and have it kill stuff like gallery, etc. I found it helped a lot with saving battery. UltimateJuice helps a lot with battery as well. I'm at 70% and it has been over a day an a half now.
the think i learned about all those auto *whatever* programs, they always end up causing more problem than what they solve
i only use them to manually end task apps that i don't want to have in memory anymore
otherwise i just leave them running
no effects on battery life
the battery life is more related to the WiFi usage & GPS usage
if you are not using any of those 2 just manually slide down the tab and click them off
you can go a whole 24+ hr if you keep GPS and WiFi off, and only use 3G/voice in moderation

Google Services/Google Play Service/Google Framework Services draining battery

Bear with me. If you are an expert on android maybe you can help me out here. First off, I have researched the crap out of this problem and still been unable to fix it, so YES, I did search before making this thread.
I am on a stock, rooted Verizon Galaxy S4. I have been watching my battery consumption carefully via the integrated battery settings menu, battery stats plus and wakelock detector apps. Mainly, there is a program or set of programs that typically is called "Google Services" that according to the integrated battery menu is consuming anywhere between 20-45% of my battery, sometimes more than the screen on time! My battery life is around 48hrs with 10hrs screen time but that is on the massive zerolemon 7500mah battery which I just bought, so I am not sure if that is above, below or just average (i.e. I have no real standard by which to judge).
Like I said I have read probably every thread about this problem with remedies such as; disable location, turn off google now, turn off google maps reporting, uninstall updates for google play/google play services/google framework settings, turn off google sync etc. I have tried them ALL, none seem to work. I have a feeling the issue is perhaps more in depth and above my head.
It gets more complicated. Although the stock android integrated battery menu reports it as using a massive amount of battery, the other two apps I mentioned above do not even report it, or at least not under a name that I regonize (perhaps that categorize it under a different process?). Under them screen time is by far the highest consumer.
So what to make of this? Is it a false report that the stock integrated android battery menu is reporting, and thus something to disregard? I doubt that because there are many other threads out there of people with the same problem and questions I have. But It's also not like my battery drains within hours. For instance, today I have been off the charge for 12.5hrs, with 3hrs and 40min of screen time and have 63% remaining on the 7500mah zerolemon extended battery.
If you can help, please do. If this is indeed a major drain I would really like to fix it.

Yes that seems to work, but it's not really a "fix" as now I cannot use the location feature of many of my apps. Basically traded one problem for another, albeit lesser one.
I'm still trying to figure it out as since last update (MEA firmware) , my phone is heating a lot.
I had this problem with data connection on, I had this problem in airplane mode, but not strangely with having connection to wifi.
I also observed that google services and android system is consuming most of the battery. earlier when I used to get 8-10% consumption in full use in an hour, now, 8-10 % is consumed within 30 mins.
No tweaks are working. Frozen a bunch of apps but the problem is still there.
Just now I've uninstalled fileexpert HD , as "greenify" told me that since last 20 minutes my phone is on, it has taken 250+ wake locks.
I'm charging my battery to full to check if that solves my problem.
will try to disable location services and report back on the results.
Bump
Have the exact same problem, before the latest firmware my phone had awesome battery life, and now the battery goes from 40% to zero in just a few hours without any app running when I'm sleeping... it's horrible. Same problem with my wife's S4 since the latest update... It absolutely sucks.

[Q] Battery Drain after unplugging

Hey there,
Recently after patching to 4.4.2 on Telus, I have found that my S4 has been draining quicker than usual. I tend to only get 10 hrs charge on it now, but the odd thing is that occasionally when I unplug it, it will go from 100% to 77-75%. I'm not quite sure what the cause is, but I'm guessing it is battery wear due to heavy usage? I am just curious if this is the case before I consider getting a new battery for my phone.
Any help that you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
There are countless threads on battery. Start with the obvious, open battery settings and see what's draining your battery. Restart/pull the battery.
Are you rooted? Get wakelock detector from play store. Figure out if you have any apps that cause wakelocks and then fix it. Or if you're getting poor signal in your area, that can lead to battery drain.
Try apps like deep sleep battery saver if you have wake locks. Or use tasker to control your radio if you get bad signal in certain areas.

Mostly says screen and kernal, been using Lux to try and keep the screen brightness down, but it has been draining faster than usual. Have tried restarting/pulling the battery but to no avail.
Not rooted, and have been keeping an eye on signal, but the drain occurred even when at home with full bars.

[Q] Google Services battery drain anyone?

I'm running stock/rooted kitkat and for the last few days I have had dramatic battery drain. I go from fully changed to 10% in less than 4 hours. Has anyone else noticed this lately?
I had this as well. I had to disable location services to get my phone to actually go to sleep.
Sent from my AOSP on Mako using XDA Free mobile app
disabling location services and trying that. thanks
I've had awful battery since i upgraded to 5.0 and Google services are killing the battery. I'll try location services. Will update.
It's definitely not a problem with Location Services. My location is completely turned off 99% (since always) of the time and I also have that topping my battery consumption. Even though, my phone has been deep sleeping without major problems. There's an unknown wakelock that is slowly draining the battery, but anyway I've been getting 4h of SOT everyday without making any sacrifices. If somebody finds out what's the root cause, keep me posted, please.
I've been occasionally getting this for a few weeks too.
If I turn off location, the problem continues for a day or so but then goes away.
This morning I took the phone off charger first thing. I restarted and didn't open screen for two hours. When I checked battery usage it was down 80% and the big consumer was Media and SDcard. Anyone see this before?
It just occurred to me that I may have a corrupt file on internal storage. I'm going to back everything up and start deleting.
Well..I did a factory reset and I still have a major battery drain. It has to be some rogue app but I haven't installed "new" apps lately. Plenty of updates though.

[Q] Battery issue after reroot

I had some issues after rooting and installing liquid smooth so I unrooted and installed stock firmware. 4.4.2 vodafone uk.
I've rooted again (cf) and deleted a fair amount of bloatware.
My issue is just battery related.
Normal usage just seems to hammer my battery. (About 10% gone in 20 mins phone and internet usage)
There are no background apps that I can find.
Screen is using most battery (40% which is expected) followed by OS etc.
I can charge my phone during day (I spend a lot of time in car) but that's not quite the point. I shouldn't have to!
Anyone got an idea of what might be causing drain???
I've ordered a new battery to see if it makes a difference. Could the issues I've had recently somehow shorted my battery a bit?
NB. It doesn't seem to drain much when locked. Only when in use.
Any trouble shooting appreciated!!

Maybe it's the battery.. how old is your phone? Or if it something else, you can download many apps which creating battery stats, like this one here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
You can also download anotherone. But with this kind of programs you can look what drains your battery so fast.
I've got betterbattery and gsam.
Not sure how to use them though.
Bbs:
under process system_server says 63%.
Gsam says 45% (which seems ironic)
Under network vending google ply store says 96%
Gsam:
58.9% is consumed by app usage (389 by screen)
Biggest app sucker is android system @20%.
These stats help or do I need to give more info/screenshots??
